'Why are you still smirking there, Aubrey?' asked Booth while they were sitting in his office. Patterson, his old hockey rival just left the interrogation room and Aubrey couldn't stop with the snarky comments. They were sitting now in Booth's office overviewing the files and waiting for Bones to come up with some scientific mambo-jambo to get them closer to the murderer.
'I am just checking Daryl Patterson's background, wow, I can see why he couldn't let that hockey game go, his life is a mess!'
'And this makes you happy? You do know that gloating is not the best quality,' Booth rolled his eyes, sometimes Aubrey could be such a child.
'I am not gloating, I just find it very funny that's all,' he shrugged.
'What's funny about that? They guy can't get over the game that happened over twenty-five years ago, that's just sad and I don't get why, he is a suspect in a murder investigation and all he cares about that stupid goal.'
'Booth, I know that you are all noble but take it from the guy who was the last one to join your team. You guys are like super heroes! And each of you have like a rea life superpower! Every single one of you is the best of the best in your field!'
'Aubrey, you should really stop watching so many Marvel movies,' Booth couldn't help but smile a little, it was a little flattering, especially since Booth knew that Aubrey genuinely meant it.
'Come on, Booth! Do you remember how much I wanted to join your team? Every single agent here would cut off their arm for such an opportunity. I mean it, in the couple of years I have been working with you, I learned more than in all my time in the academy and FBI combined!'
'I get that, what I don't get is why Patterson is more concerned with that old game than with his own innocence, it's not healthy.'
'I guess, he is trying to get back at you,' grimaced Aubrey a little. 'I mean come on, you are basically a real life James Bond married to a real life Vesper Lynd and Patterson, well, he is a regular Joe, he probably thinks that the goal you scored is the reason why his life went the way it went and wants a rematch or something.'
'Well, it's his problem, not mine,' repeated Booth his own word from earlier today, he glanced at the picture of himself, Bones, Parker, Hank and Christine that was on his desk. His face softened at the sight of his family, who would have thought all those years ago, when he entered that lecture room that they will get to this point? Of course, he hoped for it, but the odds weren't in his favor at that time. Booth sighed a little, how he wished Sweets was here. He was the one who helped them to be honest with each other, it was so unfair he wasn't here, he won't know Hank, he won't be there for his own son and Daisy. Booth just hoped that wherever Sweets was, he was at peace.
'Is everything OK, Booth?' asked Aubrey noticing the shift in the mood.
'Yeah, I was just thinking…Nevermind, let's go back to work, Patterson or not, we need to find the murderer.'
'Yep, of course,' nodded Aubrey. 'Are you sure everything is OK?'
'Yeah, yeah, just tired.'
The case was over and the hockey game was lost. Aubrey was right, this goal meant a life to Daryl and meant nothing to Booth. His life was right next to him bickering about how getting rid of three miserable books is a big step for her, they got to the changing room, Booth was now stripped to his underwear and Bones finally stopped talking, she was looking at him appreciatively, even years and two children after, it still made him happy that he had that kind of effect on her.
'See something you like, Bones?' he teased.
'Most definitely,' she smiled at him flirtatiously. 'You truly are a remarkable specimen, in all aspects.'
'You know, we are a deeply married couple and it's weird when you call me a specimen, just so you know it'
'I always mean it is a compliment, Booth' she smiled even wider.
'I know, you are an excellent specimen too, Bones,' he was now hugging her gently placing a soft kiss to her lips.
'I am aware of that,' she kissed his cheek and his shoulder and now moved to his chest.
'Bones, what are you doing?' he asked his insatiable wife. She has always been very sexual and he loved that about her, but he was definitely not planning having sex in changing room.
'Seducing you,' she said simply, taking of her coat. 'I always thought it would be fun to have sex with you in the changing room. The first time I imagined that was after that first game I saw with you and Mr Bray, too bad we weren't sleeping together back then,' she reached down his boxers and now was working him up, the rational arguments to not do it vanished from Booth's brain.
'We've been together six years now, Bones, how come you never mentioned it before? I could have arranged it in no time,' he was now kissing her deeply, helping her out of her own clothes.
'Well, our sex life is pretty adventurous as it is, but now that the opportunity presented itself, I find no reason to resist it,' he pressed her to the wall and felt her heat enveloping him. This was fun, no doubt.
'Yeah, no need to resist, Bones, no need at all,' they were now lost in each other and the stupid books, socks and hockey games were long forgotten.
