Hi girls and boys, I've thrown myself into a fanfic that's a bit different from my usual ones, I hope you like it! It was an idea I've been mulling over and I really hope it turns out well. If you like it write a comment, if you don't like it don't read it or if you really want to criticize because you think it's right, use the good manners that mum and dad gave you. A kiss to everyone!
The Hogwarts Express was whizzing through the open countryside at great speed. Severus looked out, thoughtless as Lily ate some chocolates, looking at each figurine with sincere amazement.
-They're gorgeous, Sev- .
The boy grunted in response.
-Hey, you're not thinking about those two idiots, are you? Sev, if you take every tease seriously, you'll end up badly.
-I thought you were mad at me- Severus said with a shrug.
-...
-Excuse me Ly- he smiled at her and she smiled back.
Not far away, a small group of boys were chatting, one of them clearly a third year.
-You'll have a lot of fun, the first year is always the best. It's all new, said Antonin Dolovh.
-What about the Houses? How are you sure you'll end up in the one you want?" asked an eleven-year-old boy called Iago Mulciber.
-You are not sure, in fact. It is the Talking Hat that chooses.
-So I could end up in Hufflepuff too? -A skinny boy called Gaspar Avery asked.
-Sure. Would you have a problem being in Hufflepuff? Antonin asked.
-My mother's mate was a Hufflepuff - Gaspar whispered.
Dolovh shrugged as Enoch Willkes said in mock irritation.
-You say that as if it were a fault.
At that point an agitated Avery shouted.
- It's not true, it's not true! I like Luke!
The others giggled.
-Look, I confess that I have no problem with Muggles, Mudbloods or so-called Muggleborns. But in order to fit in with the Slytherins, I had to suppress my opinions. So watch out!" warned the eldest.
-But my parents taught me that non-Purebloods should be avoided,‖ said Enoch, lowering his head.
-What do you think? -Dolovh asked.
-I don't have a problem either-
- Well, make up your own minds guys, it's useless to listen to those who already have a set mentality.
-What do you think, Evan? -Gaspar asked.
-I don't think anything, for the moment.- Evan answered gloomily.
The boys walked past Sev and Lily's compartment and glanced inside.
-Is that Eileen Prince's son? -Iago whispered.
-Yeah- Gaspar replied, greeting the boy in question.
Severus shyly reciprocated as he felt the boys' gazes on him. His gaze fell on one, a new one, whom Sev had never seen before. They looked into each other's eyes for a few seconds, then Evan smiled and the black-haired boy smiled back, almost surprised. The group moved on.
-Earth to Severus! Earth to Severus! Sev, can you hear me?" said Lily, shaking the boy by the shoulders.
Severus looked around in astonishment, his mind still on Evan's eyes.
-Huh?
Severus' hands were shaking, Lily had ended up in Gryffindor, Potter had ended up in Gryffindor, Black had ended up in Gryffindor and soon (after Serene Mavil) it would be his turn. Only one thing was certain: he would never be a Gryffindor. Gryffindors were knights, heroes, brave, muscular, and stupidly bold; Severus was quite the opposite
-Serene Mavil: Ravenclaw!
Cries of joy rose from the black-purple table and the girl was greeted with pats on the back and smiles.
-SEVERUS PITON- Mcgonagall called.
The boy walked uncertainly towards the chair and the talking hat that would determine the next seven years of his life; it barely touched him and then thundered " Slytherin". A lump paralysed Severus' chest and as if in a dream he walked towards the table thinking of nothing except Lily's face which hadn't even diminished the huge smile she had been giving her beloved James since the beginning of the evening. Lucius Malfoy patted him on the back, Enoch smiled at him and Mulciber whispered a 'Welcome'.
Severus cast a quick glance at the chair to see where the Sorting was at. James was flirting with Lily and the Moor felt jealousy and sadness gnawing at his chest
-If only I had ended up in Gryffindor and he in Slytherin then I-" Someone touched his shoulder.
- 'Oh Providence are you jealous of Potter boy?" whispered Alecto Carrow malevolently.
Severus took his hand off his shoulder and rolled his eyes - Of course, I would love to be a stupid Gryffindor-.
- Then why are you watching Potter boy hit on your little friend with such envy?
- What do you know about me?
- Shut up, he's being sorted Rosier- Dolovh said hitting the girl's head.
At that last name Sev raised his head. Lily had told him that the tawny man on the train was called Evan Rosier, was it... him?
It was him, the oak-eyed boy. Severus followed him with his eyes as he made his way to Mcgonagall's. The Talking Hat had no hesitation:
- Slytherin!- he shouted loudly, as the silver-green people began to applaud.
Severus felt his heart rise, not quite understanding why. Evan reached the table with a smile, waving to his laughing friends. He sat down next to Sev.
-You've been giving us a hard time, Ev'! - exclaimed Iago.
-In fact, you were telling everyone you were going to end up in Ravenclaw for the blood of your great-great-grandfather- Gaspar whispered.
Evan huffed and held out his hand to Severus.
-Evan Rosier- he introduced himself.
-Severus Snape- the other replied.
-And so you would be the son of Eileen Prince,‖ said the tawny man. Severus shrugged.
-Our parents all went to school together,‖ Iago whispered, even as Dumbledore stood up to speak.
-Welcome!" the wizard exclaimed, "And welcome back! I hope this will be another wonderful year together. I wanted to inform the new ones about the rules and so...-
-She makes the same speech every year- Antonin murmured, almost bored.
-And since your faces look hungry, GET FAST!" concluded Albus Dumbledore, going to sit down again.
The tables were immediately filled with every good thing and all the boys began to eat.
-Your father is a Muggle, isn't he? -Enoch asked Severus as he served himself some chicken in orange sauce.
-What's the matter Willkes, you've never seen a Mudblood in your life?" asked Evan sarcastically.
Enoch snorted in irritation.
-I asked,‖ he said softly.
-Oh, never mind, Severus said, -Yes, I have, and let's just say he's not one of the best.
-Get to know my father and you'll change your mind- Enoch mumbled.
-Or mine,‖ said Evan.
-Or mine! - exclaimed Iago.
-At least you have one,‖ Gaspar muttered.
Silence fell. Everyone looked at the boy, a little embarrassed. Only Sev did not quite understand. Gaspar looked at him with a sad smile.
-My father died in Azkaban,‖ he said, -He was locked up for supposedly associating with Death Eaters. But the truth is, they locked him up because he was a Slytherin.
Gaspar's face twitched with anger. Iago squeezed his hand.
-I've always thought we should stay out of topics like Muggles versus Mages, Muggleborns and stuff like that,'' Evan said, fiddling with his stew.
Everyone shrugged.
-But why are we talking about this serious stuff? -Antonin asked to ease the tension -God, if you wanted to do that you could have gone straight to the Ministry.
Everyone laughed. It was a good group. Hopefully it would last.
