That's right! I'm taking on the Rising Of The Shield Hero Taylor! Every two weeks, if you can wait that long.

Just kidding new chapter every day until we hit chapter 3! Haha, I don't know how I'll do it. If I miss a day because I pass out on my couch please don't hurt me.

Anyways, I'm sure you guys want to just jump straight in. Let's get the ball rolling!

Disclaimer: I don't own Worm, nor do I own Rising Of The Shield Hero. If I did, cute bird monsters everywhere. This fanfiction was something I was allowed permission for, by the famous and quite charming Seerking. Thank you now on with the show!

Chapter 1: An Endless White Void, A Shield To My Arm, And A Chance To Be Parahuman

Taylor Hebert

Its first real appearance happened when I got out of the hospital.

Nothing like a third leg or a dick.

But still something completely bizarre.

A shield.

Well, a shield necklace.

Let's start from the top.

Hi. I'm Taylor Hebert.

One traumatized 15 year old girl with long brown hair and taller than average height, a too wide mouth, and eyes that didn't fit on my face. I had woken up from a coma that my previous best friend had put me in, after stuffing me in a locker full of used tampons and waste product. That's me.

What you might not know is that the small, basic emerald colored shield necklace was my power.

That's right, my power.

After being stuffed in a locker for seven hours I was given the power of… summoning a shield.

Pretty basic but stick with me.

I was dreaming. An endless white void, with four items floating around me.

A sword. White and gold with a blue gem embedded in the pommel.

A similar spear, this one with a red gem embedded on it's blade.

A white and gold ornate bow, with an amber gem residing in the center between the sights.

And a simple steel grey shield. With black indentions, and a green gem in the center.

And I had the feeling that I was being given an offer.

One of the weapons, and I had to choose.

I reached for the spear.

Memories flooded my mind.

Stupid. Clueless. Naive and cocky. Like an obedient puppy wielding a spear, easy to manipulate.

I reeled back as if I was burned. Whoever last held this spear lived for spotlight and blindly trusted people.

I never wanted to blindly trust someone ever again.

This time I went for the sword.

Aloof recklessness. Smart, although unable to recognise faults. Lacks common sense when needed.

I sighed, glancing at my other two options.

Long range on my mind, my hand drifted towards the bow…

Self-vindication. Satisfaction. A sense of superiority and hero complex.

No thanks.

What's the next one going to be? A self centered asshole? I rolled my eyes. Is this like choosing the lesser of the evils?

I went to touch the shield.

Rage. Anger. Helplessness.

And yet the want to do the right thing.

It… it perfectly mirrored my own thoughts. My feelings. The betrayal of someone close to me, the hazing of people who didn't bother to hear what I had to say. Who chose this person lauded to be better and followed them blindly. Unfair prejudice directed at me.

Unfair in general.

Being weak in a world where you had to be strong.

I felt it all.

The Shield.

My hand gripped the edge of the steel metal, pulling it towards me.

There was a flash of blinding green light and my eyes snapped open.

When I had woken up I had found a small green shield smaller than my palm in my hand. Simple, if with a green gem taking up most of the design.

It was a crime not to experiment with it.

I could make it the size of a moderate candy bar, to a Thanksgiving turkey dinner plate size shield.

Throwing it meant it'd come back to me, which was pretty cool.

But um, not parahuman worthy. Unless it'd slice through anything as it made its way back to me.

That's actually something I should test out.

Out of the hospital and free I put it on a chain, my mothers. Told dad I got it from a thrift store, he said neat, and then withdrew me from Winslow.

All in all pretty good day. Which was in fact yesterday.

Sorry just distracting myself.

My power wasn't a very good one. I could make a shield expand and shrink on a whim, but it didn't even cover my whole body. Like what would I do with that?

Plenty of things. My mind supplied me, interrupting my brooding. Like if it was like a boomerang blade then it'd be pretty useful. And if you trained for the right combat having an impenetrable shield could be down right game changing.

Which was true, thanks brain. But that still meant work, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to test my shield's durability against anything stronger than my dad's old hammer. Not while I was behind it.

It didn't float, hover, or shoot lasers. It's like the only thing I hadn't tried was actually wearing it.

Wait.

I sat up in my bed, expanding the shield until it could fit my arm, the metal automatically coming off from my mom's necklace.

The simple green design faded into a simple steel grey color, only the gem in the center not changing.

And then I slid it on my arm.

The green jewel glowed.

[Greetings, Chosen Hero of the Holy Shield!]

You have been selected to wield one of the Four Holy Weapons and are now the Shield Hero! Great power and responsibility are yours now. Use it wisely.

Oh. Well see, I'm an idiot. Thanks brain.

You're welcome.

As you may have noticed, you can shrink the shield down to small sizes for both concealment and convenience., but that is the least of the power that you possess. By defeating foes, you can acquire armour, money, and materials, as well as information. To continue with your tutorial, please close the window.

So basically a videogame.

Alright, I had never played one before in my life, but I'm game.

Literally.

Bad jokes aside, what the heck?

Deciding that whatever the heck was going on might as well happen, I closed the window, this one making another pop up. This one looked like a stat sheet from one of dad's old DD stuff before Sicon.

Or you know, popular video games in the media.

Uh… I really wasn't that familiar with stats or whatever. I didn't even know what the 'Special Status' meant either. Were my stats good? Bad? I had no frame of reference to draw from.

A little help?

These stats represent different parts of your physical and mental being. STR represents your physical strength, END represents your physical durability and endurance, AGI represents your agility and dexterity, INT is your intelligence, problem solving, while WIS is your wisdom. The ability to memories facts and figures.

LUK is literally luck. Bad or good. Don't worry about the question mark. It just means you sway on the side of good and bad luck often.

Ominous.

Special Statuses are conditions and abilities that are either absolutely unique to you or affect you on a deep level.

The first of your current Special Statuses, [Hero of the Holy Shield, is a passive effect. This will never go away. Offering you quite the reward per level.

[One Of The Betrayed] on the other hand is a status effect. Given to an individual who had been betrayed grievously by either someone close to them, or someone they trusted.

Or both.

This is not something that can be removed by the Player.

Also ominous.

My dad's voice jolted me from my brooding.

"Taylor! Dinners ready!"

"I hope you didn't burn the macaroni again!"

A pause.

"I didn't!"

"God damnit dad-"

I'd have to explore the rest of my power later. It waited a few days now, it could wait a day more.

My shield flashed in a array of bright green light, and I snapped it back on to my necklace.

Alright short chapter you guys. Remember posting three days in a row and then putting it on a normal schedule. Didn't want to make ya guys wait for something you could just look at on Seerking's archive.

It is different though, so beware. Anyways, bye! See you tomorrow!
