The season begins with Delanie introducing herself as the host of this show and saying she is standing in a camp called Camp Broadway which is on a small island somewhere in Hawaii and saying this is the first season of a new reality show called total drama. Delanie then explains that 22 teenagers who have all recently graduated from high school will be going on a little senior trip. These 22 teenagers who will be referred to as campers will be spending 8 weeks at a lame summer camp called Camp Broadway. Delanie explains that the campers will compete in many different challenges against their fellow competitors. Delanie continues saying that every 3 days there will be a challenge. There will be two teams. In each episode one team will win the challenge and be given safety while the losing team will lose a member from their team and walk down the dock of shame and board the boat of losers and leave the show permanently. The eliminations will take place at the campfire ceremony and each elimination everyone except for one person will receive a marshmallow as their form of safety. In the end there will only be one winner and they will receive many rewards such as a few thousand more followers on instagram, Be on the cover of some teen magazine that nobody knows about and a quarter of a million dollars that they will probably waste within a few months. In order to win the campers will have to endure the elements, scary animals, horrid camp food and their every move will be caught on the hundreds of cameras scattered around the entire island. Which of these 22 recent high school graduates will win the first season of total drama. Delanie then explains that this season will be called "Total Drama Island." as the intro plays
Delanie is then seen standing on the dock again and says it is time to meet the 22 contestants. Delanie also says she lied to the contestants and told them they would actually be taking a senior trip to the actual Broadway in NYC so she expects to see a lot of angry teenagers today.
The first camper arrives. She is a girl named Johanna. She is of Hawaiian descent with long black wavy hair. Johanna gets very excited on arrival and excitedly walks over to Delanie and asks her if she loves animals to which Delanie says sure. Johanna then tells her she is an animal rights activist and a vegan and asks if there will be vegan food for her too which Delanie responds to which delanie responds that vegan food is gross then tells Delanie she reminds her of her cat. The next camper to arrive is a boy named demarcus who is of African American descent with short black hair. Demarcus calls Delanie a dude as a joke before telling her she thinks she's cool before telling Delanie a joke about her curly hair. Demarcus however after seeing the environment then asks if he's actually on broadway and asks where the movie theater is to which Delanie explains he's at Camp Broadway which seems to really confuses and Demarcus feels led on as he thought he was going to be on the actual broadway. The next camper to arrive is a girl named Kaylee. She is of caucasian descent with long blonde hair. She is dressed in fancy clothing and she carries a huge purge on her shoulder. The first thing Kaylee says when she gets off the island is "Kaylee, 18, Iowa." It was a copy of her introduction in the miss USA competition she competed in the previous year. However Kaylee is incredibly snotty on Arrival. She asks if this is actually where she is staying and Delanie tells her she'll be sleeping in Cabins while she sleeps in her mansion. Kaylee then explains she is too rich and beautiful to be staying at this dumb and demands to leave and says she refuses to stay here. Delanie says she signed up for the show so she is not allowed to leave. Kaylee says whatever and tries to get back on her boat but Delanie motions for the captain to drive off before Kaylee can get back on. Kaylee grunts before walking to the edge of the dock with her heavy purse hitting Johanna and Demarcus without apologizing with Demarcus telling her to watch it. The next camper to arrive is a boy named Ben. He is of caucasian descent and has really nice brown hair and he has a nice southern accent. He appears to be very charismatic and upbeat telling Delanie she looks great and shakes her hand but like Demarcus calls her a dude to which Delanie angrily says she's a girl. Kaylee comments that Ben is kind of hot and then says suddenly she wants to be here. Kaylee asks Ben for an introduction hug and Ben agrees to it before Kaylee blushes. The next contestant to arrive is a girl named Holly. She has very long brown hair and is of caucasian descent. As soon as she arrives Demarcus comments that she is gorgeous to which Holly asks what gorgeous means and then Holly asks where she is which confuses Delanie who tells her she is on camp broadway. Holly asks if that's a city in Floor-e-do and Delanie seemingly annoyed tells her she is at camp Broadway to which Holly excites Holly as she mispronounces Delanie's name. The next camper to arrive is a girl named Ellen. She is of asian descent with black hair and she is around 6 feet tall which makes her seem intimidating. Ellen angrily asks Delanie where the hell she is and that this isn't Broadway to which Delanie says they are on Broadway since they're on island broadway. Ellen then angrily argues with Delanie for lying to her on the application form. JOhanna tries to run up to Ellen to give her a hug to which Ellen pushes her away before telling the other campers not to talk to her. The next camper to arrive is a boy named Colton. He is of caucasian descent with blonde hair and he has huge arms as a result of being super athletic. Colton is angry to see the poor conditions of the camp but admits that it's better conditions than military school. Colton says he is happy to be at somewhere better than military school. Colton seemingly hates Demarcus for no reason and purposely bumps into him as he walks to the end of the dock. Demarcus told him that wasn't nice and Colton laughed at Demarcus before pushing him into the water as Colton laughed at him. Everyone else stays silent in fear except for Ellen who seems to take a liking to Colton. Colton lets everybody know that nobody will intimidate him out here. Ellen comments that finally someone (Colton) here is cool and they knuckle touch. The next contestant to arrive is a boy named Brent. He is of caucasian descent and has brown hair. When he got off the boat he immediately started showing off his muscles that were very clearly the result of steroids and letting the other contestants know he is their biggest threat which seems to really annoy Ellen. Brent sees Colton and they instantly see a friendship connection. Brent and Colton call each other bros before shaking hands. Demarcus asks if Brent's muscles are real and Brent arrogantly tells Demarcus he is stronger than him either way. The next contestant to arrive is a boy named Eli. He is of African American descent and has black hair with glasses. Delanie greets Eli to which Eli doesn't reply. Eli then awkwardly tries to tell Delanie she looks nice but it comes off more creepy than friendly. Eli however seems to love the idea of being at a summer camp saying he used to be the kid everyone bullied at camp. Eli then walks over to the others and starts awkwardly trying to shake their hands. When he gets up to Colton, Colton tells Eli to get lost before calling him a nerd as Colton and Brent laugh at him. The next camper to arrive is a boy named Carrington. He is of hispanic descent with brown hair. The moment he sees Delanie he tries to flirt with her by calling her a beautiful girl. He then walks over to the dock where some of the girls JOhanna Kaylee Holly, already seem to be attracted to him. He flirts with the girls saying that it's nice to see a group of beautiful girls while the girls especially Holly start to blush. Carrington asks Holly what her name is and Holly says she thinks her name is Beth. When Delanie corrects her and says Her name is Holly then Holly suddenly remembers her name. Carrington seems a bit weirded out by Holly but still smiles at her to which Holly smiles back. The next contestant to arrive is a girl named Leilene. She is of asian descent with short black hair. It is very clear right away that Leilene is nervous. Delanie says hi to her and Leilene nervously says hi back. Leilene seems to be struggling holding her belongings and Carrington offers to help Leilene to which Leilene agrees. Leilene thanks Carrington and it is very clear Leilene seems to be attracted to Carrington. Colton briefly mocks Leilene's innocent high pitched voice to which Carrington tells Colton to shut up and leave her alone and Colton mockingly replies ok. Delanie announces that the first 11 campers have arrived but that there are still 11 more campers to meet. The next contestant to arrive is a boy named Tommy. He is of caucasian descent and has curly red hair. Tommy recognizes Delanie immediately saying that they used to play Survivor ORG's on twitter all the time. Tommy tells Delanie he was the guy who backstabbed Delanie in the final 3 of a survivor ORG once where he won final immunity and voted her out. Delanie immediately remembered who Tommy was and she got angry. She tells Tommy she has still not forgiven him for backstabbing her and that she will never like him. Tommy says he doesn't care if she wants to stay mad before Delanie replies she hates Tommy which doesn't seem to phase Tommy as he says it's only the 20th time she's said that. Once again Colton decides to be a bully and pulls Tommy's hair calling him a gay ginger to which Tommy gets away from Colton's hands and tells him that just because he's short and scrawny doesn't mean he won't get Colton out if he tries it with him to which for the first time Colton seems scared of someone and apologies to Tommy to which Tommy sweetly replies thank you. The next contestant to arrive is a girl named Erica. She is of African American descent and has black hair. It is very clear Erica has an upbeat outgoing personality and she greets Delanie and all the other contestants with hand shakes. Erica however does ask where Broadway is to which Delanie replies they are on Camp Broadway to which Erica optimistically says this will work too. Eli asks if she always has this much personality to which Erica replies yes and that he will love it. Ellen whispers that Erica is annoying which Erica overhears and the two girls begin fighting with Ellen telling Erica that she is annoying and fake and probably a boyfriend stealer to which Erica calls Ellen a diva princess and tells her not to mess with her ever. The two girls seem like they are about to get physical until Ben gets in the middle to prevent the fight with Leilene saying it's only day 1 and that they should all get along. Ellen tells Erica this isn't over before the two girls exchange dirty looks and walk away. The next boat has 2 campers this time. The 2 campers are 2 girls named Gabriella and Maria. Both were of hispanic descent with black hair but Gabriella has straight hair while Maria had curly hair. They were twins but Gabriella was also a few inches taller than Maria. The girl seems actually happy about them living in a summer camp. Maria goes on an entire rant talking about her and Gabriella's experiences at summer camp and she continues to ramble on for 30 minutes telling all these camp stories with most of the other campers getting annoyed by her constant talking until Delanie yells at her to shut up before she expels her. Gabriella isn't quite as talkative as Maria but Gabriella and Kaylee exchange eyes and immediately recognize each other. The girls run up to each other before hugging and saying how happy they were to see each other. Ben asks the 2 girls if they know each other and They explain to everyone that they competed in Miss Teen USA last year and that Gabriella came in first while Kaylee got second. Tommy says he remembers watching it and he said he was team Gabriella which makes Gabriella hug Tommy while Kaylee seems annoyed that Tommy wasn't rooting for her. The next contestant to arrive is a boy named Jin. He is of asian descent with black hair. As he steps off the boat he is carrying a clarinet with him however he is not happy to see his surroundings. Jin told Delanie he thought he was going to Broadway to see some art museums and music concerts but JIn does say he is happy he is away from his annoying next door neighbor Arkon. Gabriella asks Jin to play a song on his clarinet which Jin agrees to. However when JIn begins playing the clarinet it is clear he has no musical talent and his entire clarinet sounds squeaking causing many of the contestants to cover their eyes and complain about the awful music. Brent ends the suffering by spitting on Jin's clarinet with Colton telling Jin his clarinet skills suck. Jin just says they're jealous and don't know what true musical talent sounds like. The next contestant to arrive is a boy named Alejandro. He is of hispanic descent and has shoulder length but really nice black hair. Alejandro says he likes Delanie's hair but says it's too curly which makes Delanie roll her eyes. Many of the other contestants seem to love his hair with Gabriella and Maria asking if they can play with his air which Alejandro answers that's what his hair is for. Maria however goes on another monologue about how much she loves Alejandro's hair until Delanie yells at her to shut up. The next contestant to enter the island is a girl named Imogen. She is of Native American descent and has black hair in a massively long braid. Imogen intimidates the others the second she steps on the island. She stomps off the boat and drops her bag which is so heavy it makes a loud bang upon touching the floor. Delanie tries to greet Imogen but Imogen just ignores her and walks to the other end of the dock without saying a word. Imogen then proceeds to drop her bag on Jin's foot which causes him to yell low in pain. Jin asks what Imogen put in her bag and she says it's full of Dumbbells same as heavy as 100 pounds but then threatens she will hit anyone who messes with her which causes everyone to remain silent in fear. Even Colton whispers to Ellen that Eva is too scary while Ellen confidently says she can take her down in a fight. All of a sudden a boat is making its way towards the dock. As the boat gets closer it continues speeding fast for the dock cause Delanie and many of the other campers to run off of the dock in fear. The boat crashes into the right side of the dock taking part of the dock down. Everyone return to the left side of the dock and looks at the situation in shock. The person who comes out of the boat is a boy named Arkon. He is of Indian descent with black hair. Arkon excitably gets off the boat and tells Delanie "HI my name is Arkon Squarepants." Arkon then apologies for crashing the boat saying he was practicing for his next driving test. Delanie asks how many times he's failed his test and Arkon responds with 59 before giving off the most annoying obnoxious laugh ever. Jin immediately recognizes Arkon as his next door neighbor and he screams in pain. Arkon however thinks that he and JIn are best friends and runs over to Jin and hugs him but Jin doesn't come back. Jin asks what he is doing here claiming he went on this show to get away from him. Arkon says he followed Jin to the casting call and they liked his laugh so much that they picked him for the show too. Jin says he's finished and that he's quitting until Delanie points out he can't quit cause he signed the contract which leaves Jin furious. Jin tells Arkon that he better not get in his way while Arkon still oblivious says they're gonna have fun together. Tommy is happy to see Arkon and whispers that he's glad he's not the only gay guy on this show. The next camper to arrive is a girl named Bianca. She is of African American Descent with curly black hair. Bianca is very happy when she gets off the boat screaming "Show Business" and talks about how excited she is to finally be on tv and how she will get so famous being on the show. Delanie explains to Bianca that she is on a low budget reality show and to calm down but Bianca insists that this is the star of her entertainment career. She introduces herself to the others and asks how many followers they have on instagram. Most of the contestants range from 200 to 15,000 followers except for Gabriella who mentions having 2.3 million followers. Bianca decides to lie and say she has 4.9 million followers when in reality she only has 67 followers and it's very clear none of them believe Bianca. Ben asks how Bianca has become so famous to which Bianca says she never gives away her secrets to being famous. The next contestant to arrive is a boy named Ryder. He is of Asian, African American and German descent. He has black wear and is wearing a beanie hat. As soon as everyone gets their first look at Ryder most of them fall in love because of how incredibly attractive he is. Many of the girls Kaylee, Holly, Leilene, Erica, Gabriella, Maria, Bianca are so attracted by his good looks that they begin to drool or become so starstruck they can't think about anything else. Even some of the guys find Ryder hot. Carrington is disappointed that he's no longer the hottest guy on the island while Demarcus says he is not gay but still admits Ryder is a hot man. Delanie however doesn't seem to be so impressed by Ryder. Delanie lets Ryder know that she didn't want him on the cast and that he only got cast cause the other producers wanted eye candy on the show. Delanie says he better not just be a pretty face and give some good tv. Ryder seems a bit scared of Delanie and says he will try. As Ryder walks over to the left side of the dock Holly passes out by how good looking Ryder is but she knocks Jin to the ground also while passing out. Brent picks Holly up while ignoring Jin and accidentally kicking him in the face. Holly asks if she's in South Korea to which Brent tells her she passed out for a second. Holly said she's happy she's passed something in her life. Brent seeming annoyed has to explain that passing in this scenario means she fainted which Holly replies about how cool that is. The 22nd and final camper to arrive is a girl named Foxy. She is of caucasian descent She has red hair that is styled with two buns on top of her hair. As she is getting off the boat she trips and face plants onto the dock. Erica runs over to Foxy to help her up. Foxy thanks Erica before going on about how she's glad she didn't break any bones as Foxy claims to have cystic fibrosis. Foxy then tells everyone how she wants to win this show so badly so she can help pay for her mother's treatment as she claims her mom had recently been struck by lightning. Foxy then tells Delanie she has celiacs disease to which Delanie says she has the same disease. Foxy then asks Delanie if there is gluten free food for her and Delanie replies yes. Foxy then said she will also need dairy free food as well claiming it's not good for her Crohn's Disease and Delanie says Foxy will be fine. Many of the houseguests seem to find Foxy weird and creepy and none of them really respond to anything she says. Delanie then says all the campers have arrived before telling them all that she will need to take a cast photo of the contestants before they can begin. Some of the contestants are doing interesting things for their cast photo. Imogen is lifting dumbbells, Maria and Gabriella are hugging each other, Demarcus is being silly and sticking his tongue out, Arkon is smiling very widely, Tommy has his arms folded. As Delanie counts down from 3 to take the photo Arkon notices his shoes are untied. He kneels down to reach his shoes but slips on his laces causing him to fall onto Jin which in turn leads to a domino effect with all the campers being knocked down and all falling into the water. Delanie takes the photo while all the contestants are falling in the water. His picture is now just multiple campers tipped over, laying on the dock, falling into the water, or in the water possibly drowning. Delanie tells all the contestants to dry off and to meet her at the campfire in 20 minutes.
The 22 contestants all sit by the campfire. Delanie introduces the contestants saying they are official at camp Broadway and that this will be their home for the next 8 weeks. Delanie says the contestants will meet their best friends here or they may meet their worst enemies but reminds everyone that all of their fellow campers are their competition. Arkon smiles at Jin while Jin just gives him a dirty look. Delanie then explains that the last camper left standing will win a quarter of a million dollars. Ellen asks if she will have to share a bedroom with men saying she refuses to sleep near a man. Carrington however says he hopes the bedrooms are co-ed with Leilene saying she hopes they are. Delanie decides to make Leilene and Carrington upset by saying the bedrooms are not co ed. Delanie tells the contestants they will be sleeping in cabins. One side for the boys one side for the girls. Bianca then asks if she can have the best cabin on the island since she is the most followed person in the cast on Instagram. Delanie says she is lying about her instagram follower before telling her all the cabins look exactly the same. Gabriella and Maria however are happy they get to share a cabin. Tommy whispers that the cast is annoying. Brent tries to lighten the mood by saying he is excited to hang out with some bros and that the bros will have fun. Kaylee says she is so thankful she is not a bro. Meanwhile Johanna is seen bonding with a deer. Delanie then explains that she will now divide the campers into 2 teams.
Screaming Gophers: Arkon, Brent, Carirngton, Demarcus, Eli, Ellen, Erica, Holly, Imogen, Jin, Kaylee
Demarcus is very happy to be considered a Gopher while Erica says her favorite color is green. Arkon tells JIn he is happy to be on the same team as him while Jin clearly looks unhappy while saying he always gets the worst luck
Killer Bass: Alejandro, Ben, Bianca, Colton, Foxy, Gabriella, Johanna, Leilene, Maria, Ryder, and Tommy
Gabriella and Maria hug each other tightly, happy to be on the same team together, however Gabriella and Kaylee seem a bit upset about being on different teams. Alejandro says they are called the killer bass cause they are going to kill all the challenges
Delanie then tells the campers that there are cameras situation everywhere around the camp
Delanie then lets the campers know that there is an outhouse the campers can use to make their own confessionals. Contestants can tell the viewers how they feel about the game and each other
Kaylee: (Confessional) I am already hating this place. It's all old, ugly, and dirty and this outhouse is the most disgusting toilet i have ever sat on. This place sucks
Holly: (Confessional) So like what is a confessional. Is this where I can put on my makeup. Also why is there a camera thingy in here
Jin: (COnfessional) I've only been here for an hour and I am already forced to live with my absolute worst enemy. This place is going to suck
While Jin is giving his confessional he hears an annoying laugh from the outside. He opens the outhouse door and sees Arkon laughing outside the door. Jin asks him what he is doing there and Arkon says he was trying to find Jin. Jin just says whatever and leaves the outhouse with Arkon following him
Delanie then takes the campers to the cabins. She explains that the Screaming Gophers will sleep in the left cabin and the Killer Bass will sleep in the right cabin.
Alejandro is the first to enter the killer bass boys room and he is disappointed to find out they are sleeping in bunk beds. Colton calls Alejandro an idiot saying it's a summer camp so of course they are going to be sleeping in bunk beds
In the Screaming Gophers girls cabin. Carrington is sitting down on one of the lower bunks talking to Holly, Erica, and Kaylee. Holly asks Carrington if his name is Chris and Carrington has to correct her but Holly still doesn't know how to pronounce his name correctly. Erica is asking Carrington if he has a girlfriend to which Carrington says no which seems to excite the girls. Kaylee says that Carrington is so hers while Carrington jokingly laughs in response. Erica asks if Carirngton is a feminist to which Carrington says yes and that he hates Trump. Holly asks who is Trump and Erica says she's better off not knowing. Imogen then enters the bunk and tells Carrington why he is in the girls cabin. She forces Carrington out of the bed and escorts him out of the girls cabin. Imogen slams the door in Carrington's face as soon as he's out of the room. Alejandro asks if there is any hair gel on the island for him to do his hair. Delanie answers by saying there is some old hairy gel in the bathrooms. Alejandro asks why they can't give him non hairy gel to which Delanie responds to budget cuts. Tommy asks if there are any showers on the island to which Delanie responds there are communal showers in the bathrooms to which Tommy complains he is not comfortable showering in public with other guys to which Colton mocks him not to drop the soap in the shower to which Tommy replies he's not an idiot. Leilene also comments that she is not comfortable showering next to other girls but Delanie just tells everyone to stop whining. In the Killer Bass boys room Colton comments that he is so happy that he doesn't have to share a room with girls before Alejandro and Colton talk about how annoying girls are and how long it takes them to get ready for bed. Ben says guys can be a pain to live with too saying sharing a bedroom with his brother was not the highlight of his life to which Colton says he doesn't care. Foxy asks if there are any aides on the island in case she has a seizure saying she has epilepsy. Delanie responds that since they all are 17 and 18 and just graduated from high school they are old enough to not need an aide and that they are all old enough to be camp counselors at a regular camp. Delanie tells the contestants they have an hour to pack before meeting her in the cafeteria. Foxy explains she's gotta sort through all of her medications. Suddenly screams can be heard from the Girls side of the Killer Bass cabin. Alejandro opens the door and finds Leilene, Maria, Gabriella are all huddled in one of the corners of the room screaming. Bianca is sitting on the top of one of the bunk beds. Alejandro asks what's going on and Bianca points down to Alejandro that there is a rat in the room. Alejandro even yells himself and runs out of the room. Bianca jumps off from the top of the bed and while still nervous she does try to kill the rat with her heels only for one of her heels to break in the process to which Bianca sarcastically says this is perfect. Bianca escapes out of the room while the girls continue screaming in the corner. Brent comes into the room with a baseball bat ready to kill the rat but then Johanna runs into the room and seems happy seeing the rat. Johanna tells the rat to come to her and the rat runs onto Johanna's arms. She picks up the rat and mentions how cute it is before kissing the rat. She tells the contestants that the ratio is harmless before walking outside of the cabin to put the rat down so it can run into the woods where it belongs. JOhanna told them rats are harmless and nothing to be afraid of. Brent comments he would have liked to kill the rat though. Leilene is still a bit shaken up by the rat but Carrington tells her the rat is gone and she has nothing to worry about. Carrington also tells her if she's in trouble to let him know. Leilene blushes and thanks Carrington. Brent whispers he doesn't know why a male jock is talking to nerd girl
The contestants are all inside the cafeteria. There is only one chef on the island and her name is Matilda. She is very intimidating looking. She stands over 6 feet tall and is probably the most fit woman all the contestants have ever met. Several of the contestants look scared just looking at her. Matilda says 3 times a day she will serve them her lovely food and that they will eat it 3 times a day and that they will not leave the cafeteria until they have consumed their entire meal. Matilda then yells at them all to get in line, get their food, and sit down. Raven asks if the food is sugar free saying it won't be healthy for her diabetes to which Matilda tells her she doesn't care enough to know what she puts in her food. For their first meal for the season is pasta with meatballs. Foxy is the first to get her meal and says that the sauce is too unhealthy for her. Matilda gets mad and yells at Foxy to stop whining and eat her damn food. Ellen whispers to Carrington that it looks worse than her high school's pasta. Matilda hears Ellen complaining and begins to yell at Ellen for insulting her food while Ellen yells back at Matilda telling her if she was a cook she wouldn't have to worry about people hating her food. Matilda then threatens Carrington saying he better not say anything about her food either. Matilda sees how skinny Eli says he will be given more food than the rest because she says he can't look like a wimp and expects to win the competition and gives Eli twice as much pasta as the rest. Johanna tries to start a convo with Colton and Colton tells her to go away and that he doesn't talk to weirdos. Matilda yells at Colton that he better never talk to a girl like that again. Colton says she doesn't scare him and Matilda says she will scare him. All of the campers are now sitting down eating their pasta. Jin complains that the food tastes like dough but that it's better than the hamburgers Arkon makes at their restaurant job. Jin then can see Matilda giving him a death glare and tosses a meatball into Jin's face which disgusts him. The campers continue eating their lunch when Delanie walks into the cafeteria and tells them this is the place where they will eat all of their meals. Jin complains that if he's going to be on tv he deserves better food and Matilda threatens to shoot another meatball at Jin before Jin lies saying he loves Matilda's food. Delanie then tells the contestants that in 1 hour they will have their first challenge. Leilene is nervous as to what the first challenge will be. Tommy says as a reality superfan he knows these shows do something basic for the first challenge
THe campers are then standing at the top of a 1,000 cliff with most of the campers looking scary. Leilene then asks Tommy if he is sure this is basic before the episode ends
