Hey guys, this the first sequal to The Abyss: Prologue. It takes place in the Kumo desu ga nani ka universe.
And I strongly advise reading The Abyss: Prologue before reading this.
Now, I know that many of you wanted the sequal to be in other universes. I actually intended for that to be the case, in a multi world edition, but I also wanted to make a kumo desu ga nani ka fic, soooooo...yeah.
But don't worry, if you guys have checked out my story log, you should know that the multi-world edition will be release the next Saturday.
So, without further ado, let's begin.
Disclaimer: I do not own Overlord or Kumo desu ga nani ka.
The Abyss: A spider?
Kumoko knew she messed up, no, she messed up bad, despite knowing that Alaba had now gained skills to especially counter her, she still took a risk.
What did she do? Well, she had an insane plan.
She launched a rot attack, an attack which harms her as well, alongside her opponent, in order to kill Alaba and heal herself by gaining exp. But it failed, it failed horribly.
She had targeted his vitals and and his sensory organs, namely his eyes, ears and heart, using her rot evil eye in 6 of her eyes, a great risk. But, she failed, the position of herself and Alaba was perfect, she could have easily succeeded, if only luck hadn't worked against her.
The luck which worked for her in all of her battles up until now, had worked against her.
Right when Alaba's back was turned towards her, and she was falling downwards, while avoiding the fiery walls made by him, she began her greatest attack, and it should have worked.
But... it didn't, a rock, a little rock, that was on fire, dropped from above knocking her head downwards and leading to her missing her intended target. And then she slammed right into the side wall.
Now, missing six eyes, half burned, unable to move, falling down into a raging inferno and with Alaba coming right after her, she could do nothing.
Even if she used space magic to run, Alaba had spacial perception, he will catch up to her anyway, and becides, she was going to die anyway in a few hours if not given treatment, which was impossible given the fact that most of her legs were either torn off or burned away, due to her bumping in the side wall.
'Is this how I die, after all this?' She thought weakly, feeling tears coming into her eyes. 'I-I don't want to die, no, not here, not like this.'She could imagine it, even when near death, that Admin D watching her with amusement, finding her suffering amusing. And then when Kumoko dies, D will just shrug and say something like, 'Well it was fun while it lasted.', and then forget about it, like it was just a game, like her life was just one big game for her.
'Well, it kind of was, she reincarnated me for her own amusement after all.' But it was just not fair, ' What did I ever do to deserve this?' She thought, time seemed to have slowed down for her as Alaba's fangs neared her, ready to tear her apart. 'why, just why is this happening to me?'It was then a miracle occurred, the flames raging on the walls and the ones cloaking Alaba, vanished and the earth dragon who was about to kill her stopped in mid air like some invisible force was stopping him.
'Eh, what is going on?' Kumoko thought with no little amount of shock.
Did Admin D decide that Kumoko had not amused her enough or something. Or was it something else. She then felt the pain she was feeling lessen until it vanished, like it was never there in the first place. When she looked at herself she saw her wounds healed, even her eyes, that were damaged by the backlash of her rot attack.
She got up with no difficulty as well, even her strength had been restored. Then she looked around and spotted someone, or rather something, floating towards her and Alaba, it was a majestic figure, dressed in a dark black robe, which seemed so masterfully crafted that there was not a single sign of stitches present, some thing which should be impossible, even with the technological level of previous world. And a ring around its neck, which seemed to fit perfectly with its image.
But the figure was not a living creature, it was a skeleton, a skeleton that was pure white in colour, with a burning red orb in each of its eye socket. Still, that fact only, for some reason, enhanced the aura of the individual, the aura of a person worthy of all the awe and praise the world could offer, which was wierd cause the owner of that aura was a skeleton.
'Is that an undead?' Kumoko wondered, only to discard that theory a second later, 'No, how would an undead look so terrifying, and not to mention, so powerful.'It was impossible to ignore the aura of power that demanded respect and screamed power, even if she could not sense anything from him, at all, and the fact that he was the only one aside from Alaba and herself here, so there was a large chance that he was responsible for healing her and stopping Alaba. He could even be an administrator for all she knew.
Knowing all this, she was almost afraid to use appraisal on him, but still, gathering her courage, she mentally used appraisal, only for it to show "Impossible to appraise.", which means that the system can not recognise what she was trying to appraise, in other words, something from outside the system. The only time this had happened was when, he tried to appraise Gyuridistordiez, an administrator.
This only conformed her suspicions that her saviour was an administrator.
And then he, ignoring the still frozen Alaba, turned towards her and asked in a deep regal voice, "Are you alright, Kumo-dono?"
Hearing the majestic voice, it took her some time to regain her senses and respond, " Y-Yes."
'Ugh why did I stutter?' She thought before her eyes went wide, 'Wait could it be, that I have no social skills at all?' In her previous life, she was a total shut in, who never got out of her home, unless it was to go to school, and in this world, in her entire existence of 1 year she had not have a chance to hold a proper conversation, so it was the only logical conclusion that she did not have any ability to hold a conversation. Then another thought struck, 'How could he understand me?' Could it be that he is also an administrator that has visited Japan as well, 'He speaks good Japanese as well.'
'Oh no, Oh no,' Kumoko panicked, 'What am I supposed to do now?'If the skeleton in front of her, was an admin, then why would he save her, what did he have to gain from it.
As questions flooded her head, she heard him mutter, "Did she stutter?"
'Damn it. Did he figure out that I don't have any social skills''
"It seems like you have not yet recovered from the fear of almost being killed." He said, "Don't worry take a few moments to calm down then we can talk."
'Thank you.' She screamed in her head with a mental sigh of relief.
It was a good thing he did not reach the conclusion that she used to be a shut in neet. If he had, who knows how would he have reacted. She did not even know how admins saw neets.
But that raised many questions in her head, questions like, why did he help her? Did he know that she was a reincarnater? and what was D's reaction to this?
So, unable to keep these thoughts in her head, she blurted out questions after questions, without thinking, "Are you an administrator? Why did you help me? Do know admin D?"
It was only after she had spoken her questions she realised that her quick questioning might have enraged her saviour.
'Nai wa, what was I thinking? I am such an idiot. Damn it, Damn it.'As she was cursing herself, she heard chuckles from the skeletal figure in front of her.
And so, she looked at him, feeling fear grab every inch of her body again, she made a final desperate attempt to apologise.
"I am sorry Death-sama, if I enraged you. Please don't kill this lowly one." She bowed down with head touching the ground, calling him 'death-sama' because the word death suited him the best in her opinion.
The Death just laughed and said, "Ah, you are an amusing one aren't you Kumo-dono."
"Y-Yes?" She gulped.
"Don't worry, for I am not angry. I was merely amused at the speed of your questions and your fear of myself."
"A-Ah." She felt so relieved that she thought her knees were going to give away.
"As for the answer to your questions." She perked up at that.
"I am not an Administrator, but an entity even beyond them. I-" he spread his arms in a majestic pose and said, "-am Ainz Ooal Gown."
Kumoko looked in pure awe.
"But-" He said looking at her with the orbs that seem to be his eyes glowing red. "-you may call me Ainz."
An entity beyond the Admins? Kumoko wondered just how powerful was he. Jay to make a claim like that one would have to be either very stupid or very powerful.
"As for your other questions, I will answer them in just a moment." He pointed one of his skeletal hands at the still frozen Alaba, whom she had almost forgot about, as a back coloured mist emerged from it and the moment it touched the earth dragon, it lost the life in its eyes and fell over, dead.
She wondered if Gyulie would sense one of his kin dieing and find them, 'But then again.' she thought, ' if Ainz is an entity beyond the admins then it is possible that he masked the killing of Alaba by himself.'
"Now" Ainz began, "Let us move to a better location to talk. After all, you had many questions, and I am sure it will be much harder for you to ask them here."
'Wow, despite being so strong, he really is a very humble person, if he is willing to answer my questions so easily.' Kumoko thought, feeling respect for the skeleton, after all, not only had he saved her, whatever reason he might have for it, he was also very nice and willing to help.
He then raised his hand and snapped his fingers. Suddenly she found herself in a place completely different from the one she was in a moment ago.
While she was standing on a ledge before, now she was in what seemed like a living room, with soft sofas and a table, with a warm hearth burning nearby.
Both her and Ainz were seated accross each other in sofas.
"Before we begin." Ainz started, and she watched as he snapped his fingers to summon... food?
She felt her mouth water as she looked at a plate full of cookies and several other dishes and snacks, it felt good to even be able to see some actual food after so long.
"You must be hungry from your near death experience, go ahead, eat as much as you want, I will even summon more if you like them. It would be best for you to eat as much as you would like before I answer your questions."
As he was talking, Kumoko felt true tears of happiness flowing down from her eyes.
He seemed to have noticed it and asked a little concerned, "What is it? Are you still feeling pain? Or is the food not up to your liking?"
"No, Not at all." She said quickly, wiping her tears of happiness away, "I-I-I am ju-just so happy. I don't know, I don't know how to express it, but thank you. Thank you for everything."
Probably having realised why she was so happy, it felt like to her, he was smiling, even if he had no mouth. He said again "Like I said before, you should eat as much as you like, don't hesitate, I can answer your questions any time, after all."
He had saved her life, he had also been kind to her, he even let her ask him any questions, despite the fact that he had nothing to gain from doing so.
'Ainz, no, Lord Ainz has done more for me in a few minutes, than anyone ever did in my whole like, both this one and, the previous one.'Her previous life was filled with nothing but bullying and and staying alone, with no friends, though she accepts the latter was kind of her fault as well, and her new life was filled with just hard ships.
She did not know, what reason Lord Ainz had to save her, but whatever it may be, she was grateful to him.
To be continued...
If you guy have any questions, you can ask me.
Initially this chapter was supposed to be longer, but in the end I decided against it.
Edit: Even I thought the this chapter is cringy, but when I wrote it, I had no experience, so this is the improved version, less cringy, but still wierd. I couldn't have made it less cringy without making it seem separate from the original story.
