Lily was walking towards the library to complete her Potions homework. God, Professor Slughorn could have not any give less! He was notthe only one though. As it was their NEWTs year, the teachers might as well have taken an oath to squeeze the students to death.
And add on her Head Girl duties, this year was as well a disaster for her. She was not complaining. Term has just started after all! Yeah, and she is freaking out from the beginning.
She was pleased with herself, to say the least, that she got Head Girl. But her colleague...well, she could have bet that Dumbledore was drunk when he chose him. Like, who in their right mind would make James Potter Head Boy?
On their first Prefect meeting he kept on cracking so many jokes that Lily could hardly carry on the meeting. Everyone was laughing at his jokes, and Lily, after calling him off a few times, laughed herself. She could not believe it, but she thought that Potter was not so much if the arrogant toerag this year. He had not hexed anyone so far and he was quite responsible and he and his stupid friends had not caused any trouble- yet.
She was surprised when she found herself already in front of the library. She was thinking about that Potter and did not realise- wait, she was thinking about Potter! ABOUT POTTER!
From when had she been thinking about him? Well yes, he has matured and oh, the good thing, he has not asked her out or embarrassed her this year so far.
She shook her head to keep all thoughts of Potter at a side and sat down at an empty table at the corner of the library and pulling her parchment and quills out, she started on her work.
She was half way through writing the use of aconite when someone slummed their bag in the chair in front of her. Lily did not look up from her parchment and continued to write.
Her elbow nudged her ink bottle and it slipped from the table. It was about to hit the floor but stopped at only one inch from the ground. Confused, as she had not used her wand, Lily looked up to see James Potter, his wand pointed at the bottle of ink at her feet, grinning at her. So he was the one, Lily noted.
James waved his wand and the ink bottle floated in mid air.
"Potter, give it back" Lily warned him playfully. They were both on good terms now and she did not want to spoil it.
"I was just having a bit of fun". James said and he put the bottle back on the table.
Lily rolled her eyes and looked at him.
"Wait" she said "what in Merlin's name are you doing here?"
James raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"I mean, this is a library. And James Potter in a library, it's the same as hearing that a penguin has come to live in a desert!"
To her surprise, James burst out laughing.
"Shut up, or I will throw you out!' Madame Pince, the librarian shrieked. James gave her an apologetic smile.
"Really Evans, you think I am that hopeless or like that?" he said, wiping a tear from his eye from the laughing.
"No, I mean, I was just shocked" Lily said slowly. She was a little embarrassed of her behavior.
"Hmm, so what are you doing?" he leaned in slightly to get a better look of her work.
Lily pushed her parchment towards him to save him the energy.
"Potions homework. Professor Slughorn is really giving us a hard time" she told him.
"Yeah, that dude thinks we are robots who can do all the mountain sized works he gives us" James said, sitting back in his chair.
"You know what a robot is?" Lily asked him, slightly amused.
"Yeah, read it from one Moony's many books" James said.
"And what are you doing here?" she asked him through narrowed eyes.
James smirked at this.
"Are you thinking I'll set this place on fire?" he asked her.
"I wouldn't that pass you" Lily retorted.
James sighed.
"I am here to get a bit of help for my Transfiguration essay" he said.
"Oh" was all Lily said before turning back to her own work.
They worked on their own works in silence for about ten minutes before Lily broke it.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" she asked tentatively.
"Of course" James said, looking up from his essay.
"Umm, I was wondering, you know" Lily said "if you will like to work on that Transfiguration project Professor McGonagall mentioned last class with me".
"Which one?" James asked blankly.
Lily mentally cursed him for not listening in class.
"The one on Human Transfiguration. She mentioned it yesterday and told us that we have to work with a partner".
James seemed to contemplate this for a while before comprehension finally dawned upon his face.
"Oh" he said, rubbing his forehead "oh yeah. Sorry I forgot about that one".
Lily rolled her eyes.
"So, do you want to work together?" she repeated.
James looked at her and she saw his eyes lit up like a child who had just been told that they will be getting their favorite ice-cream. Lily smothered her laugh.
"Yeah fine" he said, trying hard to hide his delight.
"So we'll meet here... tommorow at 7pm?" Lily said. James shrugged.
"Fine by me" he replied.
"Good" Lily said and stood up.
"Well, my homework is done so I'm dashing to my dorm right now" she said.
"Dashing? To start a fire?" James asked smirking.
Lily laughed earning another warning glance from the librarian.
"See you tomorrow then Potter" Lily said.
"Alright Evans...and goodnight" James said.
Lily stopped in her tracks and turned around, her red hair bouncing on her back. She looked at him for a moment and then she smiled.
"Good night, Potter" she said and turned around, missing the glint of happiness in James' eyes.
She walked back to Gryffindor Tower thinking that Potter might have really changed.
A/N: So this story shows Lily's realisation that she is in love with James. It will be a multi-chapter story and I promise to continue. Because it's Jily guys!See you soon.~Nat
