She actually was late. Way too late. Third period was probably over by the time she'd be at school. The last few days had just been different.
Becoming a vampire, struggling with blood, breaking up with the dreamy Stefan Salvatore and then last night.
She blushed hard thinking about herself and Damon. How they were together again in the morning. 'One selfish day.' He asked.
It wasn't selfish at all. What she didn't expect was all these feelings rushing in without any filter or blockage of any sort.
She didn't even realise how hard she had been pretending that there was nothing between them. As agonizing as it had been, it all build up to the most beautiful night of her life.
So whatever would they do on their 'day'? She wanted to put a huge pause on all the hunter crap and just live. Ironically now that she was dead, she felt the most alive.
After getting in her seat, she opened her phone under the table, expecting a text. Nope. Still nothing.
"Psss what's up?" Caroline asked noticing her to be distracted.
She shook her head, tugging at her scarf, "No- uh low battery." She made it up. Then she touched the scarf and a smile spread on her lips. He had been so soft and he had that smile on his lips- she had never seen him be so open with her or anyone.
"You're day dreaming. Not very break-upish." Caroline again popped her dream bubble.
Elena chuckled, "Break-up? Oh yeah, yes-"
"Isn't it awkward with Stefan there?" She asked and Elena pursed her lips looking down, "No he wasn't home last night." Thankfully, she added in her head, "Everything is going to be fine. I am fine."
A part of her really wanted to spill to her friends. Nope, secret day. And also they hated her boyfriend.
Throwing caution to the wind, she decided to type a text.
She played with her phone for a second before going blank. What did they normally talk about? Yes monsters and vampires – sometimes , nope it's always danger stuff or an address.
This way he would never text her.
She swallowed thick, typing down a simple text.
"Craving an actual human breakfast, is that normal?"
And she was, if the said breakfast was with a certain blue-eyed vampire.

To say he was over the moon was an under statement and probably made him sound like a girl.
After years of pining, he admitted- bad, hopeless pining- he finally got Elena Gilbert. Oh yes, Elena Gilbert was his girlfriend. His vampire girlfriend.
What came in the package was the ex-boyfriend was his brother. Who came down the stairs, right on cue. "What's cooking?" his brother asked seeing him so chirpily rolling up an old carpet, "Um nothing." He suppressed the smile on his face.
"You look like a Cheshire cat who ate the canary." He pin-pointed, "So what am I missing here?"
"Nothing. It's a good day. Lighten up asshole." He said reaching in his back pocket to get his phone that had buzzed.
" Lighten up? My life has been a mess for weeks. This hunter tattoo stuff first and now every where I go, an original pops out. Plus, my girlfriend broke up with me, well- maybe you're gloating about that." He huffed.
Damon rolled his eyes, "Yes, please employ me as the bad guy for the way you feel." But then he did feel guilty in a way. He looked down at the text from Elena and contemplated reading it. Well, fuck it. He opened it.
"You're doing the face again." Stefan pointed it out. He looked up from his phone and said, "Have to go. I have been summoned."
"By?" he asked seeing Damon just abandon his spur of the moment re-arrangement project. "Witchy. We need to somehow control a teenager into not committing murder of a specific vampire."
Stefan looked away a bit caught off-guarded and ashamed for what had happened with Jeremy, "I can hear her name."
"Good progress." He said aloud leaving.

She checked her phone again after just two minutes of not checking it. Should she have texted?
She was greeted with one text back from Damon.
'I think I offered breakfast, you were running to catch history class, let me guess, the pyramids haven't moved.'
Elena rolled her eyes, maybe his 'being soft' mood was over. But this was also good, familiar and normal.
She typed.
'Unfortunately no. I wouldn't know If they had, I was busy thinking about a secret selfish day.'
Elena began writing down notes to distract herself, she figured her boyfriend was a lousy texter. Wait, he was her boyfriend, wasn't he?
They got together yesterday, shared a good bye kiss. Was she seriously 'dating' the one guy she never thought she'd have the courage to date. Did he consider her his girlfriend?
Her phone buzzed and she looked down immediately to read some other witty response.
'Keep focus, otherwise you might just run into a wall. I want you back in one piece for dinner.'
Dinner. Now she was intrigued, was this just dinner or a dinner date. They couldn't go on a date. It was way too obvious and she hadn't prepared the explanations. After the bell rang, Elena gathered her stuff and was practically running out of class and Caroline caught her, "Stefan still isn't here, did something happen at the old Salvatore Hotel."
She shook he head, "No, everything was fine when we ran into each other in the morning."
Caroline stood in front of her, "So, how was that like? Any-"
Elena completely rejected the idea, "Oh no, Care it's just- I genuinely moved there because of Jeremy, Stefan and I know things are just over. There's too much happened last year and I've changed."
"Clearly. The world is off its axis." She looked at the back of Elena's head. She looked over her shoulder and almost gasped seeing Damon talk to Bonnie in the hallway.
She followed Caroline to reach the duo who sounded like they were arguing.
"I don't know what will happen after the tattoo develops, maybe he'll change, maybe he won't." She said frustrated.
"Yes, but the urge to kill his sister should subside by some magic."
"Doesn't work that way." Bonnie said through her teeth. "What about the solution to the blood problem. Elena can't drink from bags but we need to keep it low-"
She interrupted, "I am trying to find a reason but everything seems to be fine."
"Oh so you're useless." He snarled.
"Damon, have you extended your pestering to the premises of our school?" Caroline came to Bonnie's defence who put her hand on Caroline's arm, "It's fine I called him, we are looking for quick magical ways of finding vampires for the-" her voice trailed off, Damon had a smirk as he said, "Mass Vampire slaughter."
"Why don't we put you down for it. You're like a hundred psycho vampires together" Bonnie hissed.
He snapped back, "Try a thousand."
Elena was blankly staring at him, she directed her eyes away from him, stopping the blush reaching her cheeks. No, no she couldn't act like nothing had happened.
She remembered the time they kissed and it got so weird that Bonnie had immediately known something had happened.
"So do you have discovered a way for this magical call to the vampires." He wiggled his brows. Caroline squealed, "Okay not here! Just go somewhere private." She grabbed Elena's hand and took her towards the lunch hall, she looked back to see Bonnie and Damon leaving. Her eyes met his and she took in a deep breath, giving him a smile. His expressions completely changed from his usual cool to slightly nervous and excited, he winked at her before going behind a door.
"Where are you today?" Caroline asked between lunch "You seem lost."
She laughed, "What? Em no. I am fine. Hey I'll see you in class, I forgot my notebook in classroom." Before she could say anything Elena rushed out, now looking for Damon and Bonnie.
She found them in the lab from the glass in the door as usual being passive aggressive towards each other. Bonnie said something and then raised her arms in surrender, leaving Damon to stand there and go. She waited till Bonnie was out of there before she opened the door and got inside the lab, "Hey, you never told me you'd be here today."
Seeing her his clenched jaw relaxed, his eyes softened with the pupil taking up the blue. She loved that she could calm him down by just being there.
He shrugged, "Last minute." Elena nodded as she got closer before she slipped her bag and reached to cup his face, she pressed her lips against his, like on pure instinct. It didn't feel unnatural or weird.
She had been thinking about it since she saw him here. When she pulled back slightly, he had a small smile on his lips, "And then I wanted to see you."
"Good. Me too." She chuckled and kissed him again, this time he pulled her closer against himself, kissing her back with urgency. Things were getting heated and she needed to remember this was school. With reluctance, she broke their lips, "You make this secret day hard."
"Lets make it easy." He raised a brow, "I have to go out of town, pick up some stuff for Bonnie, I'll be back by 5-ish. I can set you up a decent dinner after I come back. We can decide a plan to tell this. You know coming out speeches and all." He cupped her face, she had a silly smile on her lips, "Yeah sounds good."
She got ahead and wrapped her arms around him, putting her head on his shoulder, she sighed, "You're a bad texter."
He chuckled, "One of my many shortcomings."
She didn't seem to pull away, she didn't want to. She bet he thought she was clingy but it actually felt nice. She felt calm and she hadn't felt this calm in years. "Well you have to leave at some point." Elena said yet she didn't pull back, she slowly untangled herself from him, he stroked her hair away from her face and kissed her softly, "I won't have to tonight."
"Yeah. I'd like that." Her eyes darkened.
Once he left Elena found herself daydreaming again. How would she ever get used to having her heart so carefully handled, being so cherished and loved. A part of her knew it, she was falling hard and though she had closed that door in the past because of how intense it was, she was ready.

"You don't understand!" Elena debated with Caroline as the Blonde directed a guy with a keg inside the house, "Oh come on Elena, we can use a party around here and Stefan said he didn't mind."
"It's not about that." She said frustrated. She wanted to stomp her foot. No way was this party going to stop before four or five in the morning. Damon had planned a whole romantic evening for them. Great. Just great.
"What's the matter?" Elena froze hearing Stefan's voice, she clutched her hand, feeling weird as it is, turning around he had a bottle of beer in his hand, people were starting to show. Damon was about two hours late.
"It's just- I was looking forward to a quiet night of reading and being in bed and this is a lot." Elena said tucking her hair back. Stefan scanned her appearance. She was wearing a tight burgundy tank top with a black mini skirt. Her hair were wavy and she was wearing makeup.
"You're a bit over-dressed for those plans." He couldn't help but admire her appearance. She blushed, "Yes. That. Well, I." She scratched the back of her head, seeing Caroline watching her now too, "I was um ready because I unpacked today and I found a really cute top I hadn't seen before." She grabbed a drink when she saw Matt passing by, carrying a few, "I'll have this. Okay less talking more partying."
She huffed as she got away from them, the house was crowding up with people and she felt hopeless with every passing moment.
As soon as she saw a familiar car coming into view, her heart sunk. Damon got out with just as a confused look as she had imagined as he looked around the wild party spot that was his house right now, "Okay."
Elena laughed slightly when she saw him lean back and check if it were actually his house. She decided to break it to him, "Yup, you didn't drink yourself into delusion."
"Thank god for a familiar face." He said eyeing her up and down, clearly happy at her wardrobe choice. She smiled, "Caroline and Stefan decided to have a party." Her disappointed was far too evident.
"Stefan? My brother? The bunny killer?" he asked as if it was impossible. She nodded, "Yep. The very."
He made a scrunched up face, "Terrible timing for joining the fun club or a mental breakdown, which ever it is." He said with disappointment. Elena shrugged.
"Listen, how about you wait here by the trees, I gotta give this bag to Witchy and we can go for a drive?" he presented the option.
"Yes I'd love that." She resisted to touch him as he took a black bag from the back and went inside, Elena waited anxiously.
All she wanted was one night of peace with him and then she was ready for all chaos but seems like it was impossible around here.
After waiting about fifteen minutes, she headed inside and nearly groaned seeing Damon with Liz. She probably had some vampire problems to talk about but Elena had it enough.
"Damon, there you are. Come on- I need your help in getting some twelve packs from the basement." She held his elbow.
Liz chuckled, "Elena, didn't realise you were here as well."
She promised, "We're being very responsible."
Damon rolled his eyes, "Elena made pigs in a blanket except it's actually little joints for the goody bags."
Liz scowled at his humour to which Elena shoved him, "You're never funny." He chuckled at her attempt to drag him away from the party, "I think I am funny, and way too sexy for this planet." He whispered, "That's what your diary says about me, I assume."
She pushed him in front of her, "Okay I've had it to up here, we just have to admit. We can't win with mystic falls." Elena said with defeat in her voice, they went towards the library near the staircase.
She got inside and looked around before closing the door. "Suddenly we never seem to be alone anymore."
He laughed at her impatience, it did feel good to see Elena trying for their time. He caressed the side of her face, "I missed you today." She murmured as he leaned in, pressing a soft kiss against her neck.
He wanted to say that he knew it better than anyone what it was like to miss her, to long for her and to love her so hopelessly. But then could he? Was it too much?
"I guess we should tell everybody. Since we can't enjoy a day of secret anyway." He nuzzled her shoulder. Elena let out a sigh and gave him access, "Who says?" she slowly pulled away from him and held his hand leading him behind a shelf. Un-zipped his jacket, running her hands up and down his shirt as she placed kisses against his neck, her eyes were getting all pulled with vampire instincts her fangs threatening to show, "Ow-"
"What?"
"Blood." She could feel his blood pumping in his neck and desperately wanted a taste.
"It's okay, drink." He encouraged her, "I want you to." His voice was a plead, he was so fully hers and he never refrained to show, that was it, she sunk her teeth into his skin and moaned feeling the taste of warm, sweet and familiar blood touching her mouth. She could never say no to this. His blood was meant for her. It was like a full course meal after starvation.
Of course it wasn't just blood. It was like a calling. The most powerful aphrodisiac. She couldn't wait longer. She needed him like air. Once she parted, she licked his wound until it closed up. She could tell Damon wanted her as well. By the way he was looking at her, she had to ask what blood-sharing did that made it so- intimate. But right now.
He put her down on the carpet, kissing her senseless as his hand went up her skirt, finding her lacy underwear. He stroked her through the thin material, his mouth ripped away from hers and he kissed down her neck, his other hand pulling down her shirt, "Wanna risk it down here or should we take this party upstairs?"
"Risk it." She gasped holding on to him as she sucked at the skin of his neck. When the door to the library suddenly opened, Damon cursed. Gesturing her to keep it quiet, they waited to see who was here.
"This was not a good idea." It was Stefan's voice, Caroline was right behind him, "You just have to let things be for a while."
He kicked at a shelf, "And then what? I just- I can't anymore. This town is suffocating me."
Damon was pushing his palm against Elena's mouth, she could barely think straight, ever since she had Damon's blood, all she could think about was sex. If he didn't bury himself inside her, she'd explode into pieces.
"Trust me, it's all a break-up process. We need you here, Stefan." Caroline almost pleaded.
Damon pursed his lips, Elena was pushing her hips into him and her hands were moving agonizingly over his erection. He didn't want to break it to his brother like this, he had some decency.
"it's not about the break-up. It's just that I've always drawn my life around her and this time it feels like this is really over. I don't know what to do anymore." Stefan went on and on.
Damon slowly untangled from Elena, his brother might not be a sharp vampire but Blonde sure was. Elena sat up slowly, her arm still wrapped around Damon's neck, he slowly stepped towards the window, thank god for loud music. He pulled the knob up and slid the window. He got half way out when he heard Caroline, "What's that?"
He zoomed so fast that Elena nearly laughed. But now she was stuck there with Stefan and Caroline.
"Elena?" Caroline saw her and Elena squeezed her eyes shut, "I am sorry, I was um- looking for a book here." Elena knew it was dumb but she wanted to get over with it and find Damon. "At a party?" Caroline asked with her wide blue eyes.
Elena could barely meet Stefan's eyes, he looked confused and miserable, she didn't want this for them, "Yes, I should go." She muttered heading for the door, then she turned around, "Stefan, Can I talk to you for a moment?"
Caroline immediately being the matchmaker stepped out leaving them alone. Elena looked away from him, she just needed to say it, "I am sorry. I really am. I hate to be the person who is causing you all this pain."
He stood quietly after she was done, he sighed, "You always wanted me to fight for us but you didn't this time."
She nodded, "Because it's just not like it use to be. Both of us have changed. And we tried to act like we were the same but sometimes it's just good to end things so the memories don't get sour."
He pursed his lips as he stepped back as If ready to leave, "Was it because of him? Damon?"
It made her take a sharp breath, she wanted to say no but the truth was that she did break up with Stefan because of him, "Not directly. You were gone, and when you came back you pushed me away and at some point I started pushing you away as well. I pushed Damon away years ago but he just- he never gave up on me, even when I did."
Stefan scoffed, "Yeah we all know why."
Elena bit her lip, "No. You don't get to say that about him. Stefan, I broke his heart- at times I crushed him, I denied him all hope. He never expected, he just was here because he wanted me happy, even if it was with you. How am I not suppose to feel for him? Believe me It wasn't a choice, I just can't help it anymore, I can't fight what I feel for him."
She clarified, "It's always been there but I used to push it down and find reasons but I am all out. And it's okay, you can hate me for it. But I had to be honest with you. Please don't leave because of me. You have an eternity ahead of you, I don't want my memory to cause you pain all that time because yours will always be special for me."
He stood there looking at her quietly before he went to open the door, "Enjoy the party." He murmured before closing the door after himself. Elena huffed. This wasn't going to settle any time soon.
She got out of there and checked her phone to see if there was still any chance of salvaging this night.
Elena went upstairs and found Damon's room on the far end, thankfully it was party people free, she texted, 'Your room' to him.
She got inside and sat down on the foot of her bed, head in hands. There was going to extreme backlash of this relationship, she just knew it. It would be a while before everyone accepts it.
"Hey."Damon walked in and closed the door after himself, "What an eventful day." His voice was sarcastic as he sat down on the bed, "It started good." His hand went to tickle her side, she laughed a little and pulled herself to a side on the bed, "Don't." Once he stopped she just lied back down letting her legs rest in his lap, he put his hand on her knees, "It was not be the way I pictured my ultimate fantasy."
She lifted her chin in feigning confusion, "What's your ultimate fantasy."
He scrunched up his nose, "You in a dinosaur costume."
Elena laughed.
He got ahead, slightly hovering above her, "Just being with you, it's my wildest, craziest fantasy."
Her heart ached hearing his soft murmur. His lips tickled the shell of her ear and she just closed her eyes, inhaling his scent, "I uh." She lost her words, Elena was pretty sure the rest of that sentence was 'love you' but his touch made her lose all touch with reality.
She grabbed his collar and brought his lips to hers. He was kissing her, devouring her very spirit. His soft tongue moved against hers in most sinful ways, he nibbled on her lips, pulled her closer, his strong hand squeezed her ass under her skirt as he pushed his erection against her hip.
She was completely at its mercy unlike last night when she wanted nothing else other than her passion to consume her. He tore through her clothes, no longer in mood to be soft, his love had it all- it was pure yet full of sin. It had intimacy yet a sort of cruelness. Belief yet reckless abandon, faith and insecurity. Perfect combination of light and dark.
His hot mouth kissed every inch of her skin, gripping her legs and wrapping them around himself as he pressed kisses down her hips to her aching centre. All sound and light was distorted, she was back in the silky dark with Damon. She grabbed his raven hair in one hand, the other clutching his shoulder as her mouth sucked one the delicious skin of his neck. Their eyes met for a moment and she nodded, slightly widening the space between her legs with a gasp, he slowly filled her, looking into her eyes, wanting to burn the picture into his head.
"Oh." She pushed her mouth against his shoulder, muffling her sounds, "That feels-" she breathed, he added, "Perfect. You always do." He said between pants, holding her hands, lacing their fingers, he brought them above her head, looking into her eyes as he let his forehead fall on hers, her skin was glistening with sweat, she was glowing. He could look at her forever without blinking. She was his calmness, his storm, his happiness, his misery- she made him alive.
"Don't stop." She begged, his lips pressed in a kiss to her chin them her open mouth, "Never will." He promised as he pushed into her again, his hips pushed into hers over and over, she knew she wouldn't last long, moving up her chest, she forced him in a sitting position as she settled in his lap, crossings her legs around him, she began moving on top of him, he left her hands, cupping her breasts, he thrusted up, sucking on her dusky pink nipples.
She was just too much for him, he held back his release as he desperately began pushing up into her, her muscles clutched him, her curled toes pushed into his back, as he lied her back down and dove into her till she met her mind-numbing release.
He kissed her, meeting his climax as well, their tensed muscles began relaxing alongside each other almost changing into one body. Elena wrapped her arms around his neck as they lied down against the pillow. Just the way they started the day.
About ten minutes later, they were in bed back from the stars, under the covers, looking at each other perfectly in the dark.
She reached out her hand and stroked away the hair on his forehead, he brushed his lips against her palm, she giggled softly, a part of her desperately wanted him to say he loved her. She knew he did.
"I'll have to sneak out of here, the party is still going on." She murmured.
He pursed his lips, moving his face closer, he wrapped one hand around her waist, "Everyone will be wasted, you can stay with me."
"Do you want me to?"
He shook his head, Elena rolled her eyes, pushing her head into his chest, loving his own fragrance, so home, so hers. " I thought you were nice today."
He laughed at her whiny voice and put his hand in the back of her hair, "You're not leaving tonight. Better?"
She nodded, "I want to be with you. I am sure. It's what makes me want to wake up in the morning." She confessed, looking up, "I know you waited for me, but I waited too. And now it just feels right, even if it isn't- I don't need a right time to be with you anymore. Now we have a huge war on our hands."
He scoffed, "I don't care what-"
She interrupted, "I know you don't, and it's one of the reasons why I love being around you but it's one of my shortcomings, okay" she chuckled reminding of his earlier words, "There's going to be harsh pitches in 'Your next boyfriend; critical analysis' show. And we're going to have to sit through it all and survive it." She lectured.
He smiled as she slowly climbed his chest, as if forming a plan, he shrugged, "Sounds like more of an Elena problem."
"It will be unless you wear your Mr Cynical cape and give me another one to deal with. Promise me, you'll remember that no matter what I want to be with you." She held his hand, "Being with you makes me feel alive, it makes me happy, it fulfils me in ways I always wanted." Her cheeks reddened confessing, his eyes had widened throughout her confession, he just wanted to hear it once, If Elena could say it that she loved him so his existence could finally reach its purpose, but he wouldn't push her.
"It's the perfect pitch for me." He whispered pulling her closer, he kissed her, holding her tight in his arms, when she pulled away she put her head on his shoulder, "So you're my boyfriend?"
He squeezed his one eye shut, "If I am correct its 'Best Boyfriend; Critical analysis, champion finalist.' Isn't it?"
She huffed, "Why are you like this?"
He tipped her chin up, "Its a stupid question, if I am calling you my girlfriend in my head about the nine times your name came up, you solve the rest of the math problem."
She kissed his lower lip with a smile, "Got it, I am your girlfriend. You're my boyfriend."
"Good" he kissed the tip of her nose. She put her head back on his shoulder almost feeling tears coming to her eyes, with no idea she could actually find her home in a person. This was where she wanted a forever, being a vampire finally sounded good.
