Homeward Bound
Meredith has a day off.
"Hi," says Meredith to Addison as she boards the elevator.
"Hi," Addison replies, as she not-so-subtly eyes her up and down.
Oof. Big oof. The very last place she needs to encounter Addison is the elevator.
"You leaving?" Addison chirps at her.
"Yep. 80-hour limit," Meredith sighs. "You?"
"My surgery was postponed," Addison replies.
Meredith stays focused with her eyes to the front of the lift, purposefully not looking at Addison, because she knows that Addison is looking at her.
Addison is smiling at her, and Meredith chances a glance over at her, and shoot- she's giving her that look. The kind of look that makes her weak at the knees and makes her go cross-eyed.
"I have a dog," Meredith says, deliberately facing forward again.
"You have a dog," Addison says in an amused tone, as she leans against the wall of the elevator.
"My point is, that I have a dog," Meredith insists. And she turns towards Addison to say this, and then she turns forward again.
"You have a dog," Addison repeats again. "Oh, you know what?" says Addison, as she looks up again. "I love dogs."
Of course, she does.
Addison is grinning at her, and Meredith tries not to grin at her back.
"I've moved on, so don't give me that looks," Meredith says (unconvincingly).
"What look," says Addison, 'innocently,' as she approaches her.
"That look. Our look," Meredith says in an unimpressed tone. "I'm over you."
"I'm over you too," says Addison, but in a low tone, and while leaning towards her.
"You are!?" Meredith turns around again, a bit shocked at Addison's words.
"No," Addison admits right away.
"Well, I am," Meredith says, as she watches Addison's eyebrows arch upwards. "Over you."
She nods proudly as she turns around, and then Addison leans in even closer, and says "I'm over you too."
"You just said that-" Meredith doesn't bother arguing with Addison when she knows that she's caught her in a lie. "Oh, shut up," Meredith says weakly, as she looks ahead for the gazillionth time that morning.
Addison gives her a knowing smile as the elevator reaches its ground floor.
Meredith's heart flutters at all the times that they've kissed in these elevators. All the kisses they've had with Addison's back against the walls of these elevators, or Meredith's.
Damnit! It's always these elevators!
And now Meredith is facing forward, and about to walk away from said elevator, when she chances a final glance over her shoulder at Addison.
"Want to come over tonight? It's your day off after all," Addison smiles her winning smile and dazzles her with her look. That look. Their look.
Meredith takes in the slight bite of Addison's lip, the slight flick of her hair, and the smooth curve of her lips.
"Oh, okay," Meredith concedes easily as she waves to Addison on her way out.
She's so not over her.
(But Addison clearly isn't over her either, anyway).
Meredith's about to go home for good when she hears the elevator door open again. And she doesn't even have to look back to know that it's Addison. Because she stands still and Addison is right in front of her. And she's kissing her. Again. With all the mind-numbing, breath-taking, jaw-dropping kissing power the only Addison can ever possess.
"I'll pick you up after your shift," Addison growls, as she fixes Meredith's coat, and gives her one last pat on the shoulder before she heads out.
Okay, so they're so not over each other. At all. Big deal.
"Alright…" says Meredith, giving Addison her own version of their look so she can see a faint blush rising up Addison's neck, and appearing lightly on her cheeks.
"And Meredith?" Addison asks her, stopping the elevator before it can take off again.
"Yeah?" says Meredith, turning around again so she's almost tempted to ride the elevator up and down again, just so she can keep talking to Addison.
"I'd like to meet your dog sometime," Addison smiles.
"You betcha," says Meredith, as she finally takes off towards home.
Maybe vacation isn't so bad after all.
