*Author's Note: Time to write the series! To celebrate Batman in May that is a week away, I should be writing about him with my characters, but in Arkhamverse. This is my first Batman fanfic, so go easy on me. There will be some references from the Animated Series. Have a smile on that face and let's get to the world of Batman!*

*Chapter 1: Arrive in Gotham*

The coffin was lowered to the ground. Mia and her son watched in silent and sorrow. Rain pours on them, but Mia held the umbrella as she watched the coffin disappeared in the ground. Her husband was killed in a burning building. He was a firefighter, trying to save a family member in a burning apartment. But, the building fell on him and a person who was trapped in a fire. It was a little girl he tried to save. When Mia was given the terrible news, she was in distraught. Along with her son who was eight at the time.
Mia shuts her eyes as tears fall down to her cheeks. Her son, Axel, hugs her. He cried a bit. Mia strokes his dark brown hair. It's just the two of them now. Mia will be on her own, raising her son.
After everyone left the cemetery, Mia and Axel stare down at the coffin with flowers and roses. She held the white rose and throw it down. Her firefighter will never be forgotten. Her hero is in a better place.

'Goodbye, Walter...' Mia thought to herself.

"Mom?" Axel's voice spoke. Mia blinked and turn to her son who waits for her outside the car. "Mom, you spaced out for five minutes. Are you okay?" Axel asked. Mia cleared her throat and nodded.

"I'll be out in a minute." She said. Axel walked over to the stairs of the apartment building to sit on one of them. It's been three years since Mia's husband died and wanted to start a life anew with her son who just turned eleven a month ago. They just arrived in Gotham after hours of driving for Mia's job to be a nurse at the Elliot Memorial Hospital. Mia has been a nurse for four years until she was attacked by a man who demanded drugs. She was almost killed but then security arrives. Mia doesn't feel safe in her own hometown, Bridgeston. She is worried for her son's safety. That was when she decided to move in a different city. And it's Gotham. Sure this city is full of danger, but what Mia hears from the papers is Batman. The Dark Knight who saves the city from the most dangerous criminals. Though, Arkham is worse. That city has more trouble than Gotham. Plus, there is Bruce Wayne who is a big deal to Gotham.

'Yeah. Like I will meet the playboy millionaire.' Mia thought to herself with a scoff.

Mia and Axel watched the movers bring in boxes of their things in the apartment they will be living in. Mia walked in the small kitchen to place the boxes of plates on the counter as Axel wanders around the living room to see the window. He looks at the view of the street, watching cars drive by.
After everything was brought inside, Mia tipped the movers, thanking them for the help. She closes the door and lock it.

"Let us relax first and we will set up our beds." Mia said with a smile. "I'll order pizza for dinner." Axel nodded and sat on a couch. Mia sat next to him, wrapping her arm around him. "You okay, kiddo? What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Just...it's weird we have to live here. I mean, I know you have a job here, but...what if something terrible happens? Gotham is filled with bad guys and this Batman guy comes in and stops them." Axel said.

"I know it's scary at first, but I assure you, Arkham City is worse than Gotham City." Mia said. "The hospital I'll be working is much bigger and it will pay me more. I will work there from seven to five. Not sure if they want me to work evenings, but I will figure something out."

"What about the school I'm going to?" Axel asked.

"I looked it up and it doesn't look bad. Your first day is next week. It's best if you settle in around here. Okay?" Mia asked.

"If you say so." Axel sighed. "I'm gonna look through my things in my new room." He walked down the hallway as Mia sighed to herself. She got up to set the tv up in a living room.

Axel sat on a mattress on the floor, looking through his things and found a photo of him and his parents together. His brown eyes focuses on his father. His smile full of proud. Axel remembered the day this photo was taken. He was in soccer that year and won a game. He remembered that Walter ruffled his hair and gave him a high five, calling him a champ.
A soft knock is heard. Axel jumped and turn to see his mother standing by the doorway.

"You sure you're okay?" She asked. Axel swallowed and place a photo by him. "I miss him too."

"Would he like it here?" Axel wondered. Mia walked in and kneeled down to help him take other things out of the box. She then found Walter's firefighter badge. "Can I still keep that?" Axel asked. "It's special. To us. To me." Mia smiled and hand him the badge. Axel held it. The boy always kept the badge to himself. It's like his father will always be with him. Mia looks at her wedding ring. She never took it off.
After a year her husband's funeral, she had tried dating but believes it'll be too soon for her. After four dates, Mia decide to call it quits. No man will be perfect for her. Axel didn't care about his mother's dates and neither of them caught his attention. His real father is a hero. Not a boring man.

"I got the tv set up." Mia spoke. "The Wi-Fi works."

"Okay." Axel said.

"Don't forget tomorrow morning I'm going to the hospital for the job interview. They will take me for sure, but they wanted to see me in person." Mia reminded her son. Axel nodded as they both walk out of his room. Mia brought him close for a hug, smiling.

Mia is dressed up for going to the hospital she will be working soon. She is wearing a white jacket with a white shirt underneath and a white skirt. She put on the white high heels and have her blond hair in curls. Her blue/gray eyes are bright.

"Axel, I'll be back." Mia said to her son who sat by the kitchen counter eating cereal. "Don't answer the door to anyone."

"Okay." Axel said with a nod.

"Love you." Mia said before walking out the door.
After she locked the door, she took a deep breath and walk down the hall. When she turned to the left, she sees a teen playing his guitar, playing soft music. She smiled at him before pressing a button by the elevator.

The Elliot Memorial Hospital is bigger in person. Mia was looking forward for working here. After the interview, Mia couldn't stop grinning. The doctor is nice to her and gave her a fair schedule. Not only that, a professional nurse wanted her as the assistant for a time being.

"This may sound like a dumb question, but...does anyone ever try to break in or rob any of you?" Mia asked. "Because at my old job back home, I had a bad experience."

"No. Not even once." A nurse told her. Her name is Trixie Wood. She has short black hair, brown eyes, wearing a nurse outfit. "I know you have heard from the papers about this city, but you have nothing to worry about. You and your son will love it here." She said. "You know what? To make you feel more welcome, I should invite you to a party on Saturday night."

"Party?" Mia asked. "I really shouldn't-"

"Your son is welcome to come along. I'm sure Bruce wouldn't mind-"

"Wait. Bruce who?" Mia asked. Trixie giggled.

"Oh sorry. Bruce Wayne. Surely you've heard of him, right?" She asked. "He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met."

"I've heard of him, but never thought I would met him so soon." Mia said. "But, I just moved here and I shouldn't-

"Oh come on. I know we just met, but I trust you already. I mean, you are a nurse with so much experience." Trixie said. "And your first day with me is Thursday. We got time to get to know each other." Mia isn't sure about going to this party and meet Gotham's richest man. But her conscience tells her to go for it. Maybe she does need to make some friends around here and help Axel get along with other people. "Okay. Here is your outfit to wear and we will see you Thursday morning!" Trixie said, handing Mia the nurse uniform.

"Thank you and see you then." Mia said. She walked out of the hospital. "All right. The job interview, check. Next, find something to wear for Saturday." She made it to her car to put her things in the backseat. Once she drove away, she was very unaware that she was being watched by a pair of green eyes. A wide grin spread across a face as he watched Mia drive off the road.
