Izuku Midoryia was six when his quirk first manifested. The rest of his life after that day was hell, and it was all thanks to the current number one hero, Endeavor.
Izuku had been walking home from the park with his mother, Midoriya Inko. It was a relatively peaceful day. The sky was blue and Izuku was smiling despite the excessive taunts for being quirkless that had been directed at him from Katchan and his gang of bullies while at the park. Izuku wasn't quirkless, not really, he just had yet to develop his quirk. The doctor had said it would happen, he just needed the right circumstances for it to appear. Izuku had told as much to the bullies but all they ever did was sneer and laugh at him for "making up shitty excuses''.
Izuku and his mom had just started walking down an empty side street when the sound of yelling (and was that a gunshot!?) pulled him out of his thoughts. It steadily grew louder until a lanky man running frantically turned the corner, coming into view. Izuku barely caught a glimpse of the gun in his hand, aimed behind him, before he was being yanked and dragged away from his mothers grip. His world spun for a second, but quickly focused when he heard his mothers panicked shout.
"IZUKU!"
"Mom!?" He cried in confusion.
"Nobody moves or this kid gets it!" The sound coming from behind Izuku finally registered, and he slowly tilted his head to get a better view of the man. His hair was disheveled and his eyes portrayed a desperation that Izuku just knew could turn deadly. But what really got his attention was the shining gun pointed directly at his head.
"Izuku, baby! Please don't hurt him," His mom pleaded.
A sudden roar caught everyone's attention and around the corner came none other than the number two hero, Endeavor. Izuku's eyes wided, the man behind him grabbing his neck roughly and pulling him back a few paces.
"Don't make a move or I'll shoot!" The man yells at Endeavor. Endeavor doesn't even react before pulling his hand back as his flames grow bigger. To Izuku, it looked as if he was about to shoot his fire right at the criminal, child hostage or no, but a loud cry of anguish from his mother had the number two hero hesitating.
Later, Izuku would look back at this moment and realise the only reason Endeavor hadn't shot at the criminal and incinerated them both had been because his mother would have been witness to the act and would most likely have told the press about his blatant disregard for her child's safety. And the backlash from that could have cost him his number two spot. But to a six year old Izuku, who wanted to believe that all heroes were good, he thought that the hero just hadn't noticed him until then.
"Step away from the child and drop your weapon," Endeavor grit out, frustration clear in his voice. He had yet to extinguish the flames in his hand, like he was ready to burn them both at a moment's notice.
"Mom!" Izuku yelled again. He was now freely crying, his tears dripping onto the villains hand, still firmly latched around his neck.
"Please! Izuku baby, it's alright, it's alright, a hero is here! He'll save you, I know he will!"
With his mother's words, Izuku turned his pleading green eyes to the number two hero. Endeavor didn't move, didn't acknowledge his existence, his fiery eyes still trained on the man behind Izuku.
"Child, move out of the way so I can deal with this hooligan!" Endeavor yelled loudly.
"I-I… can't!" Izuku squeaked out, feeling the hand tighten its grip on Izuku's neck. "It h-hurts."
"Child Move!" He yelled more forcefully. Izuku did nothing, he was petrified, but not because of the villain behind him. No, he was scared of the flaming hero in front of him.
"MOVE!" Endeavor roared so loudly even the man holding Izuku flinched. It was as if that one word was yelled so forcefully that it became a hammer to Izuku's soul.
Izuku felt something inside him shatter. All of a sudden, all of his fear and emotion was a well. An endless well of light and power aimed directly at the number two hero. Endeavor froze, hand going up to his chest, eyes suddenly trained on Izuku before suddenly erupting into flames. The hero burned so hot that his flames turned white. His flames grew so tall that Izuku had to shield his eyes, his very self, from the intensity of the heat and life wafting off the man. And Izuku had to turn his attention away from the blinding, burning man.
It was as if a switch had been flipped. For as fast as it had started, it had ended even faster. One moment Endeavor was burning as powerfully as any star, the next he was rendered to his usual self. Izuku bolted to his mother, the villain behind him completely forgotten in favor of the fear and confusion he felt towards the hero and the situation.
"Mom! Mommy! What happened, I'm so scared mommy." Izuku wept into his mothers shirt while she whispered comforting words into his ear. After a few moments of tense silence, Izuku finally calmed down enough to turn back around and try to get his bearings on what had just happened.
The villain was nowhere in sight. But Endeavor was staring at Izuku intensely, a glint in his eyes that had him clinging tightly to his mother.
"Boy!" Endeavor addressed him sharply, "was that your quirk!?"
"I.. I'm not sure…"
"What do you mean you're not sure!?" Endeavor growled at him.
"I...I...-"
"Izuku doesn't have his quirk yet," His mother jumped in with a false confidence. Endeavor turned his glinting eyes to her.
"Then what was that?" He spoke dangerously low.
"I.. well. The doctor said it had to activate under specific circumstances. I suppose that whatever just happened could have been Izuku's quirk manifesting-"
"Boy!" Endeavor demanded, interrupting Inko's musings. "Do what you just did again!"
Izuku trembled against his mother as once again Endeavor's fiery attention was on him. He just wanted the scary man to go away. He willed the hero with all his might to walk away and leave him and his mother alone. As if his body was listening, his hand began to glow a soft green. Endeavors' flames pitched higher and turned blue. It was nothing near what had happened with the villain, but It was still a change. His mother gasped quietly.
The large man did not go away as he had hoped. Endeavor had a smile on his face, one that screamed of power and greed. He took a step towards Izuku.
"That is quite a power there boy…" Izuku whimpered quietly and pressed himself as close as he could to his mother. Inko took notice of her child's scared demeanor.
"Thank you, sir, for helping my son and I, but I think it's best we go home."
Inko grabbed her son's hand and started to quickly walk around the hero, who had yet to drop his smile.
"Wait." The word was said with such command that it had Inko freezing on the spot, back rigid. Izuku tugged at his mother's hand, a desperation in his eyes.
"That boy's quirk. I want it," Inko stilled further. There was such possessiveness in those words such greed and longing. "Let me train him." Endevor said it with such a demand that Inko nearly nodded her head without thinking. But she didn't. Instead in its place was fiery determination and hatred that only a mother could have.
Inko turned around slowly, pushing her son behind her. " What" She snarled at him.
Before Endeavor could open his mouth to reply she took a step toward the man. "My son is not just some- some QUIRK that you can own! He is a child! A six year old child who has been traumatized to the point of manifesting a quirk. You leave him and our family alone. Neither of us want anything to do with you or your training!"
Endeavor stared and the near feral mother. He felt fear at the sight of her, but was not deterred enough to stop.
"Have you even asked the boy what he wants?" Endeavor questioned, matching Inko's tone. She turned around to face Izuku, a small reassuring smile on her lips.
"Izuku baby, do you want to be anywhere near this man?" She questioned softly, her tone and demeanor doing a complete 180. Izuku shook his head frantically tugging at his mothers sleeve. His eyes welled with tears.
"N-no.." He spoke softly, desperately.
With that Inko grabbed her son's hand and briskly walked the rest of the way home. She made sure to take the long way home and make a few extra turns, just in case.
Unbenoist to the family of two, later that same day, Endeavor went home and ordered the side kicks at his agency to track down a six year old child with green hair, green eyes, and freckles with the name Izuku.
