~Prologue~ ~Silverfang's POV~

It was a cold night. Strong winds pounded against my silver-gray fur, ruffling the silky smooth pelt that I wore for most of my life. My eyes, which were an unnatural shade of purple, glinted against the moonlit sky as I scanned the open grasslands surrounding me. This was not my Clan's territory- rather, this place was foreign to me, and the sounds and scents bombarding me told me that I was standing atop a large moorland, devoid of any bushes, boulders, or trees. There was nowhere to hide. But instead of feeling exposed and in danger, I felt strangely calm. I eventually curled up in a dip in the ground, surrounded by tallgrass and heather.

"Welcome to StarClan, Silverfang."

A voice disturbed my peaceful solitude. My hackles bristled out, and my ears pinned themselves to the back of my head. But as I looked around me for any sign of an intruder, I became bewildered. There was nobody there- at least, nobody that I could see or smell. But then, I looked up towards the stars. A bright light suddenly shined from above, and as my vision adjusted, I became shocked. The stars were moving! Several of them spiralled in the night sky, seemingly brightening until I was forced to look away. I let out a terrified scream, and I felt my claws digging deeply into the soft grass beneath my paws.

"You expect so much from a cat like this?"

"Do you think she is worthy?"

"Her actions speak louder than her words."

"Hush! Save your bickering for later!" It was that same voice that disturbed me first that finally silenced the multitude of voices that sounded through the air. Suddenly I felt something touch my nose, and a warm purr rose up out of nowhere.

"Do not fear, Silverfang. Open your eyes, for you are receiving a gift, from your ancestors."

Reluctantly, I opened my purple orbs to narrow slits. Who were these cats? Where was I? There were many questions I wished to ask. I felt my temper rising as the prospect that I had no control over what was happening. And that was when I saw her. She was beautiful. Her long, black pelt was glowing brightly in the moonlight, and it seemed almost as if stars were dancing in her wise blue gaze. But she wasn't the only cat standing before me. There were many star-lit cats surrounding me- some judging, some praising me, and some simply staying quiet. I felt uncomfortable, for I had never before been looked upon by so many different cats at one time. Was this what it was like to be a Leader? These cats were strange- almost dreamy- and it made me feel uncomfortable.

"W-Who are you?" I asked, now more mesmerized than fearful.

The black molly smiled. "We are StarClan. But now is not the time for your questions." Suddenly she stepped towards me, and stopped only when her muzzle nearly connected with mine. The other cats stood silent, watching her with intense stares. She whispered to me. "With this first life, I give you courage, so that you may find it within yourself to break out of all darkness."

"What do you mean-" I cut off as I felt fire surging through every hair on my pelt as she touched her nose to mine. I felt giddy, determined, strong-willed, and infallible. I felt as though I could jump to the moon and back, regardless of the risks. I let out a panting breath as she broke away from me. I gaped. "What was that?!" Her whiskers twitched, but she did not answer. She retreated swiftly to the line of cats surrounding me.

Then another cat took her place. This cat was massive- and easily twice my size. His muscular build easily dwarfed my thinner and scrawnier WinterClan frame. He looked down at me, his face expressionless. "With this second life, I give you humility. Use it so that you will always know your place amongst the Clans."

And what is my place, I wonder? I barely had time to finish the thought, as he touched his nose to my forehead. My paws felt like they were rooted to the ground. I felt defiant, arrogant, and proud of my accomplishments. But then I felt understanding- like I had realized that I should focus on raising up others, instead of looking down on those less fortunate than me. Before I knew it, the tomcat broke off from me, giving me a surprisingly stern look.

Then a third cat approached me, this time a young tortoiseshell molly. Her green eyes sparkled like emeralds. She didn't even bother saying anything- Instead, she simply touched noses with me, sending a shockwave of strong electricity through my body, making my fur stand on end. She giggled as she broke away. "With that life, I give you youth. Use it so that you may give your Clanmates the joy and innocence of kit-hood."

After the third cat, there were several others. Each of them had a life for me- Six more in total.

"A life for tranquility. May you find peace in the direst of moments."

"A life for compassion, so you can help those who need you the most."

"Empathy. Those who feel the emotions of others are often the wisest of all."

"I give you confidence. Use it when doubt and uncertainty seem overpowering."

"Have temperance. May you see both sides of the leaf, when the lines seem unclear."

"And finally, a life for kindness. A little bit of kindness can change a cat's life." The last cat's words seemed to be more meaningful than the others. It was almost as if it was aimed specifically at me. Do they think I don't know how to be kind? I suppressed the open thought, not willing to speak it aloud. My energy was almost drained out of me entirely, and I wanted to sleep. So this was my leadership ceremony? Surely there was more to it than this?

"Your old life is no more, and your Warrior name is cast away. A new destiny awaits you now. You are no longer Silverfang, you are Silverstar!" The black molly announced, her voice joyous.

"Silverstar!"

"Silverstar!"

"Silverstar!" The star-dashed cats chanted my new name. My fur tingled slightly, and I felt a strange power surging through my chest. But as I opened my mouth to ask more questions, the cats began to fade into nothingness, one by one. They were becoming less and less visible by the heartbeat.

I widened my eyes in alarm, confused. I jumped up, shouting. "Wait! Where are you going? I still need to talk to you!"

"Much change will be coming to the Valley of Seasons, and you will be at the center of it." The black molly murmured, ignoring my statement- even she was beginning to fade. "When the silver moon falls, the blazing star will shine bright."

"What is that supposed to mean? Is there something coming? Am I in danger?" I breathed. But she had disappeared. I was left alone, exhausted, and with my fur standing out in multiple places. A drowsy darkness in the corner of my vision lured me towards unconsciousness.
