Although this is set before WandaVision, it does contain SPOILERS (and sadness). You have been warned.

It was all so cut and dried on paper, Wanda thought as she stared at the summary on top of a pile of legal paperwork.

"Property bought by Vision in 2018. Left in his will to Wanda Maximoff upon his death in 2018. Property passed to Clint Barton upon Miss Maximoff's death in the same year. Property then reverted to Miss Maximoff in 2023 after the Snap's reversal."

The brief, formal words carried no hint of the emotion and tragedy involved in the events they described. No hint of Vision's hopes for the future when he'd ordered the construction of a home begun. No sign of the war and terror that had claimed their lives only minutes apart.

Wanda hadn't even known of the land's existence until after her return. Though the paper said the land had passed to her after Vision's death, in reality they were both dead by the time wills were being read and legal affairs being taken care of. The writing in front of her displayed none of the despair world leaders had felt when they finally had to announce the snapped dead, give up hope, and move on to the processing of wills.

The professional summary didn't show Clint's agony at the loss of his whole family and the girl he treated as his daughter, the grief that drove him to anger and revenge. Clint had been too devastated to even take care of his own home, let alone the Westview property. Wanda didn't blame him. The construction remained unfinished, never progressing beyond the point it had been at on the day half the workers disappeared.

Wanda set the paper down, trying to keep a neutral face, trying to be as emotionless as the writing in front of her. She could tell it wasn't working, though. Learning of this land, of Vision's plan for the two of them, would once have made her happier than anything. Now the joy that could have been only made her sorrow deeper, the emptiness inside her more hollow.

A few signatures later, Wanda was walking out of the office and into the parking lot. A red sunset lit up the sky as she drove back to the Barton farm. Clint had offered to come with her today, but she wouldn't take him away from his real family, even for a few hours. If she could reunite with any of her lost loved ones, she didn't think she'd ever want to leave them.

Wanda sighed. There would be no reunions for her. All she had to look forward to was a visit to SWORD headquarters to recover Vision's body. Perhaps after that she would visit Westview and see the place Vision had hoped they would one day make their home.

Wanda drove on alone into the sunset.
