a brief intro
This chapter is the beginning of a mini-series focusing on flashbacks to the first dates for both couples in my weird Paw Patrol fanfiction series. Writing this one was pretty hard, since I'm not very experienced with writing ChasexSkye stuff. Anyways, there's not much else to explain. Enjoy! :) -mitch
paw patrol: all grown up #11: love takes flight
written March 27th to April 8th, 2021
Chase felt strange and weird over the last couple of weeks. He had several sleepless nights, thinking of a certain pup that made his heart thump fast, but made him nervous, especially in recent days: Skye. The german shepherd had a great friendship with her since the day that she was accepted into the PAW Patrol when they were 5 dog years of age. Over time, he slowly developed a closer connection with her, and before they knew it, they were close pals. Marshall was still best friend number one in Chase's mind, but the cockapoo was a close second. The german shepherd found himself slightly uncomfortable around her, and for good reason: he was developing deeper feelings for her. He couldn't pinpoint the main reason why. The fact that she was the only girl around at the lookout every day? The fact that they've known each other for almost their entire lives? Her smile? Her beauty? Her pink eyes? Her laugh? Her light brown fur? He had simply no idea. Chase was not very good at hiding his secret crush: all the male pups and Ryder knew about it for a long time. And they noticed even more as he got older. For the last several weeks, whenever the pilot and police dog were paired up on a mission, Chase was slightly more anxious than usual. He really wanted EVERYTHING to go perfect to impress her. Even though he performed those same mundane tasks on those said missions countless times, he started performing with extra flair. It was painfully obvious to Ryder and all other male pups, and after one day, they decided to get to the bottom of this. After a particularly hard mission where the german shepherd couldn't focus the day before, the boy called all the male pups into the living room, much to Skye's confusion. Ryder sent her out before he closed the door. They all sat in silence before the boy began to speak.
"You've been acting very strange over the last few days. Everything ok, Chase?" Ryder spoke, knowing very well what was happening with his police pup.
"Yeah….everything's fine…" The german shepherd mumbled.
"Does this have to do with Skye? We've noticed that you've been acting weird around her lately." The boy spoke again. Chase began to sweat nervously.
"Uhhhhh….no…" The police dog stuttered as he started to sweat profusely.
"It's because you have a crush on Skye, do you? Trust me, we all know about it." Ryder smiled. Chase then saw all the smiling expressions from all of his friends. He really wanted to make an excuse and run out of the room as soon as possible, but he also knew he couldn't hide from it any longer.
"Fine...I do have a crush on her. I like her...a lot." Chase admitted openly. All the male pups walked up to him and patted him on the back.
"That's awesome, dude. Why don't you ask her out on a date? I'm sure she would like it!" Marshall cheered.
"But I...don't know if she'll accept me. What if she rejects me?" Chase whimpered.
"Dude, the only reason that she'd reject you is that she might not be ready for you. But that chance is small, believe me." Marshall replied.
"I'm just really nervous about everything…" The german shepherd stuttered while his ears dropped.
"You're nervous about her? Come on! You can't be afraid to ask her out! You're being a wimp...and I thought you were a tough guy." Rubble said with disappointment.
"This is a different kind of tough, Rubble. You have no idea what kind of position I'm in. She's way too pure for me and I just don't wanna ruin us being friends if she says no." Chase emphasized.
"Chase, trust me. I've seen you two. You both have something going on if you admit it, and it's not just you." Rocky spoke.
"Really?" Chase asked, his eyes lighting up.
"Sure. I mean, she looks at you too. Her eyes flutter when she talks about you when you aren't around. She just feels very happy around you, and I just don't think you notice anything because you're so in love with her." Rocky answered.
"Dude, you're literally the most attractive out of all of us guys. You literally could have been a mean sort of jock dog, but you're a very sensitive and protective guy. Girls would be falling over themselves trying to get to you." Marshall spoke to his best friend.
"She'd be a great girlfriend for you, dude. You're the quiet, nice-looking big guy while she's the talkative short girl. You guys would be a great couple." Zuma added, trying to boost his friend's confidence.
"Thanks...but what do you have to say about this, Ryder? I mean, wouldn't this complicate things on the team? We both have very high spots. I just don't wanna screw things over with you. Would you be ok with this?" Chase asked the boy. Ryder, in turn, smiled, walked to the german shepherd and sat next to him.
"Chase, I don't have a problem with you and Skye dating. And I'm very proud of you for wanting to express yourself. And since you both are 13 years old, I say that you both are old enough to start dating anyway. There's only one rule: the job always comes first."
"I promise." The german shepherd replied dutifully.
"I see Skye over there!" Rubble pointed out, as she was sitting under a tree not very far from the lookout.
"This is your chance, buddy! Go and ask her! If she doesn't want you, we're right behind you all the way!" Marshall cried, motioning him to the elevator. The german shepherd then took one last look at his friends. He saluted them as he headed down the tower. As soon as he reached the bottom, he walked out of the tower to see his crush still sitting under that tree, dozing off after a long morning's work. He looked at her nervously before taking that first step. He took another. And then another. The german shepherd was sweating bullets as he slowly approached her. Finally, after what seemed to be an eternity, Chase was just a few feet away from her. Come on, dude. It's just a date. You just gotta ask her the magic words. Stop being a wimp. The guys won't stop making fun of me if I mess this up. Ok. Here it goes. The german shepherd thought as he took a deep breath and cleared his throat.
"Hey...uhh...Skye...can I ask you something?" He asked with a slight anxiety in his tone. The cockapoo woke up rather fast to see him. She flashed her cute smile and her eyes lit up.
"Hey Chase! What's up?" She inquired innocently. The pilot's gaze into his eyes distracted him for a moment, before he regained his focus.
"You got anything going on tonight?" Chase asked, dwindling his paws.
"Uhhhh...no, not really." Skye replied quickly.
"Ok...that's cool...uhhh...what I was trying to say is...ummm...you wanna go on a date?" The german shepherd slowly asked, feeling like he was going to explode. Skye's eyes widened in surprise, and she began to smile. Really wide.
"Sure, I'd love to go out with you!" She replied happily. Chase had a massive sigh of relief.
"Cool...you wanna go to that fancy new restaurant outside of town? You know what I'm talking about, right?" Chase asked. It took a while for her to remember which place what he mentioned.
"Yeah...that'd be great! How about 7?" She asked.
"That'd be awesome." Chase answered with a grin. They were lost in each other's gaze for a brief moment before they snapped out of it. "Ok...uhhh...better get ready...I'll see you then! Bye!" Chase said excitedly as he ran off.
"Bye, Chase!" Skye shouted back as her new date disappeared in the distance.
The german shepherd ran back into the lookout, where all the guys were waiting for him. He had a stupidly large smile on his face, and he couldn't believe this was happening.
"She said yes! I'm goin' on a date tonight!" Chase exclaimed happily. The other male pups rejoiced and ran over to congratulate him.
"I knew you could do it, bro!" Marshall shouted.
"Let's go, dude!" Zuma cheered.
"So, you gonna get groomed or something? You don't look so great." Rocky observed. The mix was right, as Chase's fur had been a little messy recently.
"Ryder, do you remember the last time I was groomed?" The german shepherd asked.
"It was about 5 days ago. You were due for one in two days." Ryder replied. Chase's eyes widened.
"Screw those extra two days! I need one right now! I'll be back in thirty minutes!" Chase gasped as he ran straight for his truck and sped off to Katie's Pet Parlor.
Skye still couldn't believe it. Chase had asked her on a date. It was a moment that she had been waiting for ever so patiently, and it finally came true. Oh my god, he asked me out. To that fancy new restaurant! This is actually happening! You're going on a date with him! She thought excitedly. She couldn't hold it in any longer and squealed in happiness, flipping several times. She decided to call Everest, her best friend, on her pup tag. The cockapoo hoped that the husky wasn't busy at the ski resort with Jake. Thankfully, she answered her.
"Hey...who is this?" The husky on the other line.
"It's Skye! Oh my gosh, I have GREAT news, girl! Chase finally asked me out on a date and I said yes!" The cockapoo replied with joy.
"Oh my god, that's amazing! Congrats! It's about time he asked you out!" Everest replied happily.
"There was another reason I wanted to talk to you." Skye stated.
"What's up?" The husky asked.
"Are you done with helping Jake today? Because I need you for something important." Skye stated.
"Do you need me to do your make-up for you? Remember, I'm not very good in that department." The husky reminded her. Everest was never the type of girl to care much about her appearance, being that she came out of the South Pole. Skye, however, cared a lot about her looks, and always strived to be "presentable". The husky barely knew about applying make-up, and Skye only taught her once. Needless to say, it was very messy and took nearly a week to get rid of.
"Well, you're gonna have to do my make-up for me. Sorry, it's just that Katie may be busy at her grooming place and Chase might be there, and I wanna surprise him." The cockapoo spoke. Everest sighed deeply.
"Ok, fine. I'll do your makeup for you. But you're gonna apply some of it yourself, got it?" The husky asked.
"I will. Thanks! I'll be at your place in a bit. See ya!" Skye smirked as she hung up. She ran back to her pup house, got out her uniform, turned on the wings and flew off to the husky's cabin residence.
As Chase made it to Katie's Pet Parlor across the bridge, he ran in the door. Katie was stocking the shelves, as it was a Tuesday afternoon and she was to close at 5. It was only 4 in the afternoon, and the german shepherd had to hustle. Thankfully, there was nobody else at the store but Katie and her beloved Callie, who was busy sleeping in one of her cat dens.
"Katie! This is a grooming emergency! I need to be groomed ASAP!" Chase shouted as he jumped into the store's bathtub with no hesitation. Katie was left confused as she walked to start the water.
"Chase, you don't need to be groomed for two more days, what's the rush?" Katie inquired as she got some shampoo.
"I'm going on a date with Skye in three hours and I need to look my best." The german shepherd answered calmly as he felt the soothing touch of the soap grace his fur.
"Oh, you asked Skye out on a date? That's wonderful! Where are you pups gonna eat?" She requested.
"We're gonna go to that new fancy restaurant the next town over. I think it's called Lucky Star or something." Chase replied nonchalantly.
"That's cool. Why the fancy restaurant, though? It's only your first date. And Lucky Star is expensive, believe me. The sirloin meat cost 25 bucks a slice. And that's just medium rare." Katie reminded him. The price made the german shepherd sigh in dissapointment.
"That sucks...I really wanted to try it. I heard it's the best meat in the county. Guess I gotta settle with something else, though. I only have like 40 bucks in cash, so it's not gonna do me any good. And, well, Skye is a very classy girl, so I thought that she would like going to a fancy place." Chase acknowledged as Katie air-dried him off. Afterwards, she started trimming his fur.
"Were you nervous about asking her out?" The groomer asked.
"Of course I was. I was so scared of being rejected...and...well..she makes my heart go 'boom-boom-boom' if you know what I mean. We have such a great friendship, and I didn't wanna mess anything up." Chase replied.
"Well, I know this for a fact: you two would be a great couple. Plus, you two are so cute together. I wish you both nothing but the best. I still remember like it was yesterday when I first noticed you looking at her like, 'wow...she's so cool'. And that was when you were like 6, so we all knew it." Katie smiled as she began trimming his nails.
"Yeah, I don't feel too nervous now. I feel like I can handle it now that I'm more confident. Just gotta stay cool in front of her, that's all. I still can't believe this is actually happening." The german shepherd said. The groomer continued to work on Chase for quite some time until he was all cleaned up. His fur was nice and articulate, his nails were cut short and looked great.
"There you go! Good as new!" Katie smiled.
"Thanks." Chase replied as he slowly walked out the door.
"Oh, and good luck with your date!" Katie cheered. The german shepherd grinned confidently as he started back home.
At the same time that the german shepherd was getting groomed, Skye made it to Jake's cabin and promptly knocked on the wooden door.
"Come in." Jake said from the inside of the dwelling. The door was promptly opened, and it revealed Jake reclining on the couch after a long day of work.
"Hey, Jake! Is Everest here?" Skye asked eagerly.
"Yeah, she's in her room. Oh, and congrats on your date!" The mountaineer said while downing a large cup of coffee.
"Thanks!" Skye replied happily. She ran to the husky's room and opened it. The make-up was already set up in a far corner of the room, with a mirror to match. The husky turned around and was delighted to see her best friend in the whole world.
"Hey, girlfriend! Congrats on your date, I'm so happy for you!" Everest smirked as the two hugged.
"Awww, thank you! And you got everything set up for me? That's so cool." The cockapoo responded. The two then walked over to the make-up spot, where the pilot sat on a stool and the husky standing right beside her, ready to go to work.
"So, how much make-up do you want?" Everest asked curiously.
"Not much. Just a light shade of red for the lip-stick, a bit of black eyeliner, and a few brushes on the face." Skye answered.
"You can do the eyeliner, while I do the rest. Doesn't sound too hard." The husky replied with a laugh. After 30 minutes of working in silence and the utmost concentration, the process was done. The husky did a very good job with the lip-stick, not messing it up once. The cockapoo looked like a girl ready to impress.
"It's great! I look fabulous." Skye said with confidence as she gazed at her reflection. Everest laughed slightly.
"So, you wanna talk? I mean, I got nothing else to do. Jake doesn't start dinner for a few hours." The mountain rescue pup said as they both sat on the floor.
"Yeah...I mean...I gotta tell you a few things anyway."
"So, where are you two even going?"
"We're going to that new fancy restaurant. It's called Lucky Star, and it's not very far from Adventure Bay. It's like ten minutes outside of town." Skye responded.
"Well, I haven't heard of it."
"I heard rumors that they have VERY good liver."
"Ok, you've got my attention...So, how did he ask you out?" The husky said with her eyes widened.
"Well, it was very simple. I was just sleeping under a tree. Chase walked up to me and asked to go on a date with me. I said yes, and here we are."
"Was he nervous?" The husky smirked.
"Oh my god, he actually was. He was sweating a little and stuttered a bit...I mean, he was a bit on edge...But I'm so happy he asked me. And we're going to a fancy restaurant! On our first date! Can you believe it?" Skye asked, still possessing an over-the-moon feeling about it all.
"That's pretty cool, not gonna lie."
"I'm just gonna say everything on my mind right now, if you don't mind." The cockapoo said, anxious to release all the serotonin inside her.
"I don't mind." She said indifferently.
"It's just...I feel so good about him, you know? I've also had a crush on him too. He's just so different from the other guys. On the surface, what everyone sees, he's just a really good cop who works really hard at his job and acts like the tough but likeable guy. But deep down, he's the most sensitive and mature of all of the boys. He's super protective, especially of me, and it makes me so happy that he cares about me like that. And he's SO handsome...I just don't know how else to say it. He's got a really cute smile, but he doesn't show it enough. And he's so nice to me. Because he likes me! Me! Out of all the girls in the world, he chose me!" Skye gushed in awe as she thought of him.
"That's pretty cool. I wish I had someone who liked me that way." Everest smiled to herself. The cockapoo heard this and grinned.
"You have no idea."
"What are you talking about?" The husky asked, confused.
"Nothing." Skye replied quickly.
After getting primped to look his best, the german shepherd drove to the sunflower field to fetch a flower for his date. The sunflower was always her favorite, being that she was raised on a farm. With just an hour before his date, he finally came back to the lookout, parked his truck in his designated spot. It shifted back into his familiar pup house, and he ran in. The male pups saw him come back and decided to talk to him from the outside.
"Yo, how was the grooming, dude?" Zuma asked.
"Good."
"Whatcha doing in there?" Marshall inquired curiously.
"Looking for my tuxedo. And my cologne. I swear I had it somewhere." The german shepherd replied as he searched for his 'supplies'.
"Really? A tux on your first date? That's a little overkill, don't you think?" The bulldog reasoned.
"Shut up. You don't know what it's like, dude. Plus, I think I look pretty good." Chase joked. He then sprayed cologne on himself, filling the small house with an exotic but attractive stench.
"When are you gonna come out? We gotta see what you look like." Rocky said.
"Just a sec. This bowtie is not working with me. Oh, there we go." Chase said to himself. The world was ready for him as he pushed the button to open the door. The four pups were greeted with a stunning, new look. Chase donned his same black tux from his old Mission PAW days and was groomed to near-perfection. Their eyes widened in surprise. He was ready.
"Woah! You're looking good!" Marshall commented.
"Dude, she's gonna love it." Rubble spoke.
"Holy mama! STUD ALERT!" Rocky cried.
"Ryder! Get the camera! This dude looks SICK!" Zuma said to the boy through his pup tag. Sure enough, the boy came down and gasped.
"Wow…I'm speechless…Does the suit fit you?" Ryder asked in shock as he took a photo of the german shepherd. He made a mental note to get that picture framed as soon as he could.
"It's a little tight, but I can manage." Chase replied.
"That's good. I just wanna say that I'm so proud of you, you know? You're growing up really fast." Ryder said as he hugged his german shepherd, who in return gave him a few licks.
"So, what are you guys gonna do while I'm gone?" The police dog asked.
"We're probably gonna find some movie on Netflix or something." Ryder answered. The pups talked amongst themselves for a bit longer before Chase felt the need to go.
"Hey...uhh...you know what time it is, Rocky?" The german shepherd inquired.
"Yeah, it's 6:45." Rocky said, looking at the clock inside his pup house.
"Ok...well...I might as well get going." Chase spoke. The guys all embraced him in a group hug. Just before he got into his police cruiser, Marshall stopped him and bro-hugged his best friend.
"Good luck, bro. You're gonna need it." The dally whispered.
"Thanks, dude." He replied. With that settled, Chase jumped into his truck, turned on the gas, and drove off to the bridge to the tune of cheers from his canine comrades. Ryder saw this from afar and grinned to himself. Oh boy...this is gonna be fun…they're all gonna be old enough to start dating soon enough...please help me. The boy thought.
Meanwhile, Skye was putting on the finishing touches on her look. The three strands of her hair on the top were curled, the fur was brushed several times, and she used a strange but effective perfume she rarely touched. The two girls were busy talking and laughing amongst themselves when a familiar voice called.
"Hey, Everest! Dinner's ready!" Jake said from down the hall.
"I'm coming, Jake!" The husky answered. The girls then looked at the clock. It was 6:55. The cockapoo gasped in shock.
"Oh no! I'm gonna be late! I gotta go!" Skye spoke urgently. As the husky opened her bedroom door, the pilot sped past her.
"Hey, wait a minute!" The husky stammered. Skye stopped. Everest pulled her in for a hug. "Have fun. And if you see Marshall later, say hi to him for me."
"I will!" Skye giggled as she ran out the door and into the snow. She turned on her wings and flew off into the sky above.
At the same time the pilot left the cabin, Chase arrived at the fancy restaurant. The sun was starting to set outside, leaving a pinkish-orange hue in the skyline. He had seen it countless times, but it felt different this time. A good difference. The shepherd took a deep breath and walked inside. He was awestruck at the architecture of the building. In it were two floors with several plants and paintings adorning the walls. There was fancy silverware all over, with the tables sporting a white color and a red carpet covering the entire floor space. Just then, a waiter clad in a black blazer and a white shirt walked up to him.
"Are you dining by yourself tonight, sir?" He asked politely.
"No, I'm waiting for someone." Chase replied.
"Would you like to be escorted to your table?" The waiter inquired.
"Yeah...thank you." The german shepherd answered. The waiter promptly led him to a small table that was reserved for dogs. It had no chairs, a small table and had every other detail you could ask for. There was a tall, green candle in the middle and the table itself provided a great view of the rest of the building.
"Would you care for a drink?"
"No thank you, I'll wait."
The waiter promptly left, leaving Chase to his own thoughts. It was now three minutes past seven, and Skye, his date, was nowhere to be seen. Maybe Skye is just a little late. Probably just realized that she was talking with Everest a little much. Girls. They are so complicated. He thought to himself. He was a very patient pup, and took this time to appreciate his new look. This dude is looking tight! Too bad nobody else is here to see. I really don't care, though. It was a really slow evening, being a Tuesday, and he was the only customer in the entire restaurant. At the same time, his date finally arrived in the parking lot.
"Ohhh boy...I'm so late...What is he gonna say?" Skye pondered with worry to herself. She then saw his truck, and threw her uniform in it. She quickly got herself ready, flattening the fluffy strands of her fur, as she flew at incredible speed. The pilot took a moment to gaze at the sunset before she finally walked in the restaurant, still as alluring as ever. The two finally caught each other's gaze and were stunned by each other's looks. As Skye sat just in front of him, her heart was still racing. In fact, Chase's heart was doing the same thing. They were deeply staring at each other with both of them blushing very deeply and smiles painted on their faces.
Oh my god, he's so handsome. Never seen him so...sharp before. Katie groomed him REALLY good or something. His fur...my goodness, it's so nice and flat. That suit still fits him? That's crazy...and oh my god, he smells AMAZING. That cologne smells so good…wow...he's so dreamy… The cockapoo thought.
Oh my god, I've never seen a more beautiful girl in my life. That fur looks so soft, I can touch it. Man, those curls...I just can't get enough. Is that makeup? It looks great...That perfume, though...wow...she's right here in front of me...I still can't explain it...she's so pretty.
Their stares were completely broken by the same waiter asking them if they wanted water. They both blushed and replied with a nod. They then turned to each other, completely flustered with what just happened.
"I-I-I don't know what to say...other than...well...you look amazing." Chase commented.
"Thanks...you too...Sorry I was late. Forgot what time it was back there." Skye acknowledged.
"No worries. You're fine." The german shepherd replied.
"I was flying over here, so my fur is still standing up…" She mumbled, using her paw to smoothen out her hair.
"As long as you're here, I don't really mind." Chase grinned. Skye blushed heavily at this remark.
"Well, I was zooming over here at, oh, I don't know, 70 miles an hour? I fully expected myself to get a little messed up." Skye remarked. Just at that moment, the german shepherd remembered what he was going to say.
"Oh, before I forget...I got these...for you." Chase said as he pulled a few sunflowers from his pocket. They were completely intact, being yellow as can be. The pilot's eyes twinkled in surprise and adoration as she saw them.
"Aww...sunflowers...my favorite! Thanks, Chase." She blushed as she put them aside. The german shepherd smiled a great deal, knowing those moments of picking the exact right ones were worth every second. At that moment, the waiter from before handed them the restaurant menu, and the two began looking it over.
"I've heard the sirloin steak is really good. I wanna try that. After all, it's the best in the county." Skye observed as she gazed at the menu. The shepherd in front of her sighed in disappointment.
"Skye, as much as we both want the steak, we can't afford it. I only have forty bucks on me." Chase stated. Indeed, the steaks were thirty bucks a slice.
"Sheesh, they have hefty price tag...that sucks…" She whined.
"Hey...maybe when we get older, we can go get some, huh? I think the wait would be worth it." The german shepherd suggested.
"Yeah...that'd be great. I heard their Spaghetti Especial is amazing…and it's 30 bucks for the both of us." The cockapoo said as she examined the menu further.
"Sure...let's do it." Chase agreed. Just a few moments later, the waiter came back, this time with a notebook and a pen to boot.
"What would you two like to have tonight?" He asked.
"We'd both like the Spaghetti Especial, please. For two." The german shepherd answered, as the waiter wrote down the request dutifully.
"Is there anything else you would like?"
"No thank you." Chase responded. The waiter walked away without a word.
"Wow, you have some really good dinner manners. I mean, you were so polite, composed and everything. I can't imagine myself doing it." Skye remarked in awe.
"Well, picture this. Imagine Marshall and Everest going on their first date here...that would be crazy." Chase laughed.
"Yeah, they would be better off going to Mr. Porters." Skye giggled. The two talked about several topics over the next 20 minutes, like typical stress coming from work, how each one got interested in their jobs, and other things. Finally, after a long wait, dinner was served. It was a GIANT plate, covered with spaghetti strands the length that rivaled anacondas. Meatballs complimented the dish wonderfully. The spaghetti pile was at least a foot high and a foot long. They both looked on in shock as to how big it was.
"Oh my god…it's so huge…" The shepherd said while his tongue salivated at the sight and the smell of the food.
"We'd better get on with it...nothing's worse than cold noodles." Skye stated. They both laughed as they began to slurp up the noodles. They were eating them rather fast, showing off how quickly they could consume the contents. About 10 minutes had passed, and they both were just about finished up. They were sitting across from each other, as they found a noodle strand that was extraordinarily lengthy. The two were not gazing at one another, instead looking at the beautiful paintings around them as they began to slurp at it. They slowly got closer and closer to one another, slurping away at the noodle. Finally, their mouths accidentally touched one another. Their eyes widened directly in each other's faces almost instantly to their limits of their anatomy. Their lips separated at light speed as they both blushed extremely bright red. The duo sat back down, but still kept their eyes upon one another intently.
"T-t-that should not count as our first kiss, right?" Skye stuttered, almost at a loss for words.
"There are no accidents." Chase replied in a deep voice, provoking laughter from the both of them. Her laugh in particular grabbed Chase's heartstrings and plucked them, as he sighed to himself. He then gave Skye the last meatball, which she easily gobbled up. The cockapoo then started looking at the menu again.
"I don't know about you, but I'm not full yet. I think I want some dessert." Skye smirked. The german shepherd, being the gentlepup that he was, agreed. Within a few more minutes, the same waiter came back.
"Would you two like dessert tonight?"
"I want a vanilla sundae, please." Skye answered. The waiter then turned his gaze to Chase, who still didn't know what to have. He panicked internally for a few seconds, then came to an easy choice.
"Uh…..make that two." The german shepherd responded, with a little sweat dripping from his brow.
"Ok, coming right up." The waiter spoke diligently as he walked off. The cockapoo looked at Chase with a confused glare.
"Why did you order the same thing?"
"I don't know...it just happened." Chase replied quickly.
Skye dropped the whole thing, as their dessert was served rather quickly. Their eyes widened with intrigue, as they simply began to eat without another word. They easily destroyed their sundaes with no sweat.
"Alright, I'm stuffed." Skye said with a slight chill in her voice.
"Yeah...I'm ready to dip on this joint. Just so you know, I'm the one who's paying the bill." Chase said with a hint of pride of his tone. As if on cue, the waiter came back with a white paper right in front of him.
"Here's your bill, sir. Thank you for coming to Lucky Star tonight, we hope to see you again soon." He said nonchalantly. The duo thanked him, as Chase started to look it over. His eyes bugged out, and he started to sweat with anxiety. The bill was 45 dollars, thanks to the sundaes that the two had enjoyed.
"Oh boy...I don't have enough. W-w-what am I gonna do?" Chase worried. Skye looked at him with a calm expression, as she began to reach for something at her side. She hid it there just in case.
"Don't worry, Chasey. I got you." She spoke, with an almost flirtatious tone. She simply laid a $10 dollar bill on top of Chase's money that he already had out on the table. The german shepherd instantly felt a giant sense of relief.
"Oh my god, Skye, you're a lifesaver!" he rejoiced as he embraced her. Skye was blushing heavily and had no idea how to react, so she simply hugged him back. The two finally left the restaurant at 8:30. It was completely dark outside, but there was a full moon tonight, and it shone over everything there was to see. The two walked together back to his truck, as they got in, Chase noticed something odd. "Hey...uhh...why's your uniform in here?" He asked.
"How was I supposed to get here?" Skye responded with her head tilted in a funny way. Chase promptly smacked himself in the face.
"Well...my brain's PR department took a loss there." Chase mumbled. The pilot laughed at this, as he began to drive. After a while, the german shepherd took a right turn. Skye noticed, as this wasn't the way home.
"Hey...where are you going?" Skye questioned.
"You'll find out soon enough." Chase replied, with an almost romantic tone in his words. After a few minutes, the two arrived at where he wanted to be: the sunflower field. At this very spot, they were near a cliff that overlooked thousands of flowers below. They both gasped in wonder as they saw the view from where they stood in his truck. They both walked out and sat together at a safe distance from the edge. They both looked directly above them, as their eyes came to life in awe. They had been to the sunflower field many times as a team during the day, but neither of the two actually went here during the night. It was a starry night as well, with constellations dotting the sky.
"Oh my god...It's so beautiful…" Skye spoke softly, still trying to get used to the view that beheld her eyes.
"I've always wanted to come here at night. Especially with you." Chase whispered. The cockapoo blushed, and leaned her head next to his shoulder, closing her eyes as she did so. This was nothing new to the shepherd, as she did this a few times before. He smiled and continued to look upward. Nothing prepared him for what would happen next. Skye's front right paw held his front left paw in a subtle yet endearing gesture. This never happened before. Ever. The german shepherd's eyes widened and his heart began to beat a little fast. He had no idea what to do. Dude! Skye likes you a lot! You gotta make the move! She's into you! Oh my god… how do you say it? Think, man, think! Ok...admit it to her. You just gotta say the right words. Screw it! This one's from the heart! He quickly pondered to himself. He slowly started sweating, still wondering what to say.
"Hey...Skye...I wanna tell you something." Chase said quietly.
"What is it?" The pilot asked. The german shepherd took control. He held both of her paws, gazing directly into her eyes, with the moonlight shining clearly on the both of them. Skye could only return the gaze, as she couldn't stop herself from staring into his piercing brown eyes. Her heart quickened as the police pup in front of him started to speak.
"You're the most beautiful dog I have ever seen. Everything about you is just so...amazing...I just can't describe it. Your pink eyes are so easy for me to get lost in, and they just make me stop in my tracks. You got the looks, you got the style, everything I could possibly want in a girl. Your fur is so lovely...I just wanna hold you every chance I can. You have the most cute smile I've ever seen. Your laugh makes my heart melt every time and kills all the stress inside me. For a moment. No one else can even do that. You're just the happiest girl ever, and you light up not only the whole room, but my life, too. You're also the best pilot I've ever seen. Most humans can't do what you've already done...Every time I see you take the air, I just can't help but stare. When you fly, I do too. And by that, I mean, my soul does. For the past couple weeks, I couldn't sleep at night...I can't stop thinking about you. I've wanted to ask you out, but I was so scared that you'd turn me down, and I didn't wanna screw anything up with our friendship...I'm...so happy that you actually said yes. I'm sorry I might have rushed this a little...but...I have to get this off my chest. I can't hide from this anymore. Skye...I love you." After his impromptu speech, the german shepherd continued to gaze into her eyes. The cockapoo's smile grew wide. Before he could say anything, Skye leaned in, closed her eyes and landed her lips on his. His eyes exploded with life in shock. After a few seconds, she broke up the kiss. Chase was at a total loss for words. He had a stupidly large grin on his face as Skye began to speak.
"I love you too, Chase. You're the most careful and sensitive dog I've ever met. You're probably the most committed teammate I've ever seen, and you just won't quit until everything is right. Nobody has the dedication you have. You're so protective of me and it makes me warm inside every time you do that. And...well...you're super hot. I don't know how else to say it. You care about me more than everyone else...and it's so obvious. I mean, you're terrible at hiding your feelings." Skye whispered lovingly as she landed her lips with his again. This time, Chase returned the kiss affectionately. Skye unbuttoned his suit and threw it off to the side, as she then threw her paws around his shoulders. The cop returned the favor, gently placing his paws on her hips. Skye's tongue begged for entry, and he permitted it. Their tongues fought for supremacy in each other's throats. They moaned softly as they continued, their hearts beating as one, passion overflowing like a waterfall. After a long while, oxygen was depleting from their lungs faster and faster. The two broke it up, saliva still connecting each other's lips. The moonlight captured the scene perfectly. Their spines shivered simultaneously as they looked into one another.
"Where have you been all my life…" Chase sighed lovingly.
"I was right in front of you the whole time." Skye panted, seeing the german shepherd's blushing fur.
"So...we're boyfriend and girlfriend, right?" He asked.
"Yep." She replied. They began making out for the third time. It was official: it was going to be a long night for the new couple.
Several hours passed, as the two commemorated the new love they had for each other with making out, whispering sweet nothings into each other's ears and enjoying each other. Their tongues were all tired out and drowsiness started taking over the both of them. Skye's lipstick was completely ruined by her new love-and she couldn't care less. Both of their fur were rustled and unkempt, further showing the passion they shared. Chase was the only one who was still up, still gazing at the night-time view in front of him. The two were still snuggled next to one another in the grass, and Chase smiled lovingly at his new beloved. He kissed her on the forehead, waking her up.
"Hey...uh...what time is it…" Skye asked sleepily. The german shepherd walked to his truck, and inside it, there was a clock that glowed in the dark.
"Oh...it's 11." Chase answered quietly.
"Well...we might as well head home then…" Skye sighed before dozing off again. She simply had no energy to get up. Chase gently picked her up and hoisted her on his back, walking back to his truck slowly. With all of his strength, he lifted her into the passengers' seat and got in. He started the truck and quietly rolled off. It took only 5 minutes to get back into town, and the town had no signs of life. Adventure Bay was completely empty, and there were no lights in any buildings at all. No cars were going by, and there were only several lines of bright street posts to light up the town. The german shepherd was in awe as he continued to slowly go up the street. As he got onto the bridge that led to the lookout, he started to travel only 10 miles an hour, as the whole tower was dark. It only meant one thing: everyone else was asleep. After what seemed like ages, he finally parked in his designated spot in the lookout driveway. Skye woke up again to see that the truck had stopped and they made it home. They both jumped out of the truck and looked at each other with heavy, tired eyes.
"I'm gonna get some sleep...night, Skye. I love you." The german shepherd yawned as he kissed her on the forehead. He trudged into his pup house without another word. He was about to shut the door when his love stopped him.
"Hey, wait...Can I sleep with you tonight? I mean...I don't want this night to end alone." Skye whispered. Chase agreed, as he allowed her into his home. It was perfectly big enough for the two, and his scent filled his small dwelling. The cockapoo smiled. She felt completely protected by it, feeling that if anything threatened her, she was safe. Chase was already lying on his pup bed, and it was big enough for the both of them. Skye walked around the bed three times, stepping around it with a sense of flair and style which amazed the german shepherd to no end. Finally, she laid next to him and closed her eyes. She felt more relaxed than she had ever been. The pilot turned to her right to see Chase and smiled deeply. "I love you, Chase." She whispered.
"Love you too, Skye." He replied slowly. They kissed each other on the lips, lied down and settled down for a long, loving sleep in each other's paws.
Several knocks were heard from the outside of Chase's door.
"Hey...Chase...are you up? Is Skye with you?" A familiar voice called. It was Ryder. The german shepherd groggily woke up and opened the door by reaching for the button with his right paw. Both of their fur was completely disheveled and rustled from the night before. The boy saw what was going on and put everything together. "Hey, Chase. The reason I woke you was because, well, it's 8. You haven't woken up the others like usual...I'm assuming that your date went pretty well." He noted with a smile. The cockapoo woke up next to Chase and saw Ryder in front of her.
"It was the best first date I could have asked for." Skye gushed as the canines kissed one another. Ryder couldn't stop himself from smiling. They sure aren't pups anymore. He thought as he gave the two some well-deserved privacy.
