So this is probably the best thing that I have ever written .Please consider reviewing and I know that the ending is different but I changed it to fit the plot. If anyone wants to suggest any other oneshot please do tell .
Women, it is something that has never been constant in Klaus's life, they are cunning creatures after all, and no matter what anyone says very manipulative. He had learned his lesson a long time ago and now whenever he sees any idiotic boy that claims to love a woman the part of his humanity that is still left, as Elijah keeps on insisting, wants to shout at them to be 'beware'.
One might call it paranoia but after being betrayed by the women he trusted more than anyone, his very own mother, he would say it's justified. However, after all those, he had always been extremely cautious of the Petrova girls or queens really; especially the one who bears that face the maiden with who he and his brother Elijah had fallen head over heels in love, he would even say that Finn even admired her once. At the time of the Viking ages, any women who had been widowed were not even allowed to uncover their faces but not any Petrova, despite being widowed and with a child, Tatia was the dream of every man in the village, an exquisite beauty with those brown hairs that fell naturally in curls and with the twinkle in her eyes. He did not saw it then but now oh it was all clear the way that she would give those innocent smiles to both he and his brother and fluttered her lashes to show shyness, her innocence. As if, he now thought with a scoff she played both of them like mere playthings bestowed anger and jealousy to a relationship which was once full of warmth and happiness.
She enjoyed the attention that was clear since she refused to choose in between them clearly delighted in the over-the-top gestures they both did to earn her love. But she was one clever bitch, clever enough to always come out as the innocent maiden. Had he known then, he would have wrinkled her beautiful neck over and over again just to enjoy the show. But he knew now and there was nothing he could do about it. Realize how he still described it as beautiful. Yup, that's the allure of the Petrova doppelganger. Oh! but he did learn one lesson that was to never put his trust in that face again. Or so he thought until she came along after nearly five centuries.
Katerina or Katherine as she now likes to go by came to Klaus by a twist of fate when he had already begun thinking of his mother lying of the existence of another doppelganger bearing Tatia's face how surprised had he been and how before entering the god damn birthday ball he had kept his emotions on a tighter leash and had promised himself to beware these women. It was a mixture of happiness and fear when he had first bestowed his eyes on her. She looked exactly like Tatia but there was one notable difference she did not have the twinkle in her eyes instead she had her confidence which she wore like a crown which wasn't diminished even a little bit by the clothes she was wearing for they were not as expensive as others but even then the eyes of the men strayed on her, ignoring the women they court or even their very own wives. To someone else, he would have simply relayed the sentiment and action to the natural curiosity of a new face but not to a Petrova, never to a Petrova. He did however kept his eyes on her throughout the ball to the extent of giving her the pleasure of his company for a dance but not more for he was wary of her beauty rightly so. He pretended to not notice how Trevor would give her longing glances and how Elijah would fix his walls up before looking at her and also how the many other women made scathing comments on her outfits but never on her face or figure just on her outfit for they were not even stupid enough to not take notice of the beauty that was among them. On one occasion when one of the upper-class women made a particularly rude comment when Katerina was standing right beside her on her dress he bent down to her level and whispered,
"She is just envious. "
And as he said the words he could almost see Tatias reaction in front of his eyes she would lower her lashes let a small sigh escape her mouth bend her head a bit lower look hurt and give him a small fake smile and waiting to be given compliments about her majestic beauty. And his stupid self back then would gladly grant to her reassurance which he thought she sought sometimes even going to the lengths of engaging himself in a fight. But this time the Petrova surprised him and not in a good way she raised her head gave a small chuckle and looked at him and said,
"I am aware, my lord ."
One thing was clear after that, that she was no damsel in distress and had no intention of acting like one she was a queen and if she let her head down her crown will fall. After spending a long period of time with her he learned to enjoy her company and was foolish enough to disclose his true reason for his interest in her and oh he still remembered how she had begged to been spared continuously shouting,
"What have I done to you ?"
He spared her the pain of being locked in the cellar and instead locked her in her room after all she resembled so closely to the women he once loved. Maybe the first mistake or maybe it was his last for now he thinks his mistake was of ignoring her fire, the fire Katerina now termed as the Petrova fire. It was just a spark but it was still there.
The rage that he felt when Katerina escaped was unfathomable, he could not describe the feeling even if he tried. He blamed himself again he had underestimated a Petrova again if he ever encountered another which he was then sure that he won't he would not make the same mistake again. Tatia was an exquisite beauty while Katerina was a deadly one. He couldn't believe how a single woman had decapitated two old vampires and escaped from a tower guarded with vampires. But then he remembered that she was a Petrova and suddenly it all made sense.
He killed her entire family slaughtered them in fact and the cries of pain and fear soothed the monster in his chest. He could have stayed there in Bulgaria as he was almost sure that Katerina before going on the run would return to visit her native place but on further thought, he decided that death was a gift for her betrayal instead she would suffer through eternity and that would be the price she would pay for her and her ancestors Tatias crime.
When he had almost given up on ever freeing himself from the curse that the original witch put on him for he refuses to call Esther mother, the rumor of another Petrova doppelganger in the place of his birth, Mystic Falls, takes him by surprise and after a very long time, he feels hope or salvation whatever it is. He swears up and down that this time he will not be taking any risks whatsoever, he is cautious enough to not fall into the trap of another cunning woman. His measures this time were, which he himself admits to, extreme. He is somehow not surprised to know that Katerina is alive and is a part of the plan in destroying him, which he is yet to figure out admittedly. When the words of the death of Katerina reach his ears he had been rather skeptical for he doubted that a woman who had managed to escape from him for so long would be foolish enough to be killed by mere humans.
This time he decided to give Katerina a taste of her own medicine, betrayal. His plan is carefully constructed as he studies his new doppelganger, Elena, in the form of her history teacher and aunt's boyfriend, Alaric Saltzman. He still remembers the way she said Ric in his first class as she is laughing with his old friend and brother, Stefan Salvatore. As he watches her throughout the class and many more, he realizes one more thing about all the doppelganger that despite looking like they have one thing that differentiates them from their counterparts Tatia had that twinkle in her eyes, Katerina her confidence, and for Elena that beautiful laugh that is probably sweeter and melodious than any sound that he had ever heard in his long existence. Shock cannot fully describe the feeling he felt when she stayed after his class and gave him a hug saying,
"It's okay Ric, trust me."
He didn't know what that meant and he had never really cared enough to find what she meant when she said that but he will always remember the hug. He observed her from afar and finally found her weakness her compassion, her love, the word still has the capability of leaving a bitter taste in his mouth. It turns out that here also the Petrova beauty has taken full force among the young men as he hears the boys talking about her quite a lot and the girls even one of her blonde friend Caroline Forbes seemed to feel insecure in the presence of her company not that he blames them; for they do not hold a candle to her beauty. But what surprises him is her response to all of this for he is sure that Tatia and Katerina would have enjoyed the attention and even played with the boys feeling, Elena simply ignores it and rather avoids or act indifferent around the boys. He did after all heard her when the Bennet witch inquired her about her feelings to all the immature things teenage boys does when she is there, in the bar at Mystic Falls where he is simply enjoying a drink,
"Just because I don't react doesn't mean I don't notice."
One thing he also realizes about her then was that she like both the previous women who bears her face is aware of her beauty she just has too strong a set of morals to ever use it against people. Although she does share the same gift as Tatia of stringing two brothers along. And he watches in bittersweet reminiscence as both the Salvatores began to place her above themselves and he cannot help but remember all those times with Tatia who had manipulated him at the time when he was desperate for love and approval. He will have his revenge on her this time he vows again to himself and all he has to be now is patient.
If one would look at Elena Gilbert now one would see your average high school, popular girl who was much more beautiful and with a set of morals but he/she would be incredibly naive for she was much more than that she was a Petrova and damn them to the darkest pits of hell for making the most dangerous man in the world fearful of them. But Klaus was not a naive person so it didn't surprise him as much as it would have earlier when Elena stayed after history class sending all of her friends away and addressed him,
"Good afternoon Alaric or shall I say, Klaus ."
He stopped shuffling the papers on his desk and glanced up at her, she was standing there with an expectant look on her face and one eyebrow raised, he briefly debated playing dumb or simply accepting that he once again had been bested by a Petrova with that dammed face. What followed was a tumoral of emotion on his part and mostly repulsive looks on hers as he casually mentions methods of torture in his threats and of course on the thing that has completely blown him of negotiation. She had promised to him the location of the moonstone and her complete willingness on her part to be a martyr for getting him rid of this curse. The location of the moonstone was something of incredible importance to him so he played along in return she had asked him to leave Mystic Falls alone and leave here in peace without hurting the people she loved. He promised her that while maintaining a victorious expression on his own face but underneath he was seething and the victorious look on her face didn't help matters at all.
He was so furious that he destroyed Alaric's apartment, crashed the wooden furniture, and broke the windowpanes. He might be able to break the curse but it will not be on his own terms instead they will be hers, those women who had already made his life a living hell will not make the rules in his own game no this time he will win, his revenge will be complete when he drank her blood and tastes her tears, only then he will win. His revenge is what got him to kidnap Katerina and he rejoices when he sees her face when she had been betrayed. He enjoys the game of power and fear when he sees the 'legend' Katerina get scared because of him he enjoys her tense expression, the tension in her shoulders, fear in her eyes, and what not, its pure heaven. Ellena had played her part and has skillfully given the location of the moonstone and poor dear Katerina caught in her heiress games and thought to negotiate with him although she is really not as good in this as Elena is. He just couldn't help himself but compare all the doppelgangers with each other and mingling with all those humans now had helped him connect to his humanity, he is possibly giddy with excitement for his dreams are coming true but it also makes him see a perspective of Tatia that he didn't saw before. Those were dark times in which he lived back in the period of the Vikings and Tatia had no man who could provide her with protection and food so she played with many men to do what was necessary to ensure her and her son's life and he realized that she was much more than a beautiful face and a manipulative bitch.
She was trying to survive and keep the people she loved safe. Something which she had passed on to her descendant for Katerina has the same urge to survive and Elena will sacrifice herself to keep the people she loved safe. And as it turns out he still has to remind Elena of her place and who is the real boss and his first victory was getting rid of her birth mother something which will give her pain and will not make her realize that he has no intention of keeping his end of the bargain, he cleverly made Isobell seem as she was committing suicide in front of her daughter and he cherished on hearing Elenas scream as her mother was burned in daylight, in doing so he also got rid of another Petrova as he didn't want another on his hand, no thank you very much.
His final solace came when he broke the curse his treacherous mother has put on him and seeing Elenas broken look as he sacrificed her precious Aunt, and when she looked at him her face etched with betrayal he realized that she has believed him, that although suffering from tragedies over and over again she had still not lost her childish innocence and her ability to trust the devil himself. She looked at him again from the flames with fury in her eyes and the flames encircled her as his witch continued with the spell she looked as if she was emerging from them. And in the end, when he gave her his genuine thankyou she retorted with something which he continued to hear over and over in his head even after he supposedly killed her.
" Go to hell "
It was after he turned back into his human body from his wolf form, with a mixture of elation he realized that even then she had the last word, The Petrova even in her death had somehow managed to defeat him so it was more of spite than a need for companionship that he dragged her lover to the ends of the earth and made him do monstrous things just so that Elena may not be at peace even in her death. But alas she had managed to defy her destiny, defy him again. He returns to Mystic Falls, to make his first successful Hybrid Tyler only to realize with the help of his dear sister no less that even after 1000 years from the grave Esther is still messing with his head. The joy of now being free of the curse and now winning over his mother is again met with fear when Damon Salvatore releases Michael from his cage. He leaves town with the doppelganger blood, apparently, it turns out that Elena's little motivation to stay alive has benefited him greatly, only to return when he hears that she had killed Michael, something even though receiving confirmation from multiple sources he is still unsure of. Turns out he was right, so after seeing Michael die he decides to give the doppelganger a little visit for trying and failing to kill him.
She is there in the Salvatore home with Damon and he hears her saying
"Klaus is a monster damon , you are not ."
Her brother is sitting on the sofa head in his hands looking at the ground he went there without making a sound and snapped his neck leaving message written on the peice of paper with her brothers ring on it. Ah! yes being inside Alaric's head has its advantage . ln the note it was written
"It seems that I do live up to my reputation. "
Her screams are music to his ears perhaps even more satisfying than his successful creation of hybrids.
He has finally achieved all he has wanted in his existence, his curse is broken, he can create Hybrids, his father is dead, he has had his revenge on Petrova's fulfilled and his family will be reunited
But then it does not take long for tragedy to again strike for his own existence is tragic in itself, when Stefan steals the coffins from under his nose his family all of them not including Rebekah of course .This time however in order to drive home a message he kills stefan's brother and Elena's other lover,Damon Salvatore and sends Stefan a warning that next it will be his precious lover.
Now this time Elena doesn't exchange her brother's life in return of Klaus sister for she has long stopped believing in his words instead she searches for Stefan and together with him makes a plan. So when Klaus enters into his mansion he sees his family sitting there on the dining table with Rebekah cheerfully announcing the death of the last Petrova women and his family leaving him forever. His spirit his broken ,his heart crushed and he had never craved death anymore than now and there he sees and hears her holding hands with his once friend stefan and both of them laughing together as a new daylight ring glisten on her fingers. He could take his revenge but the truth of the matter is that he had lost all hope , he again had repeated the same mistake that he had done countless times before underestimating a Petrova .He didn't realize that when Elena said
'Go to hell'
she intended to take him there herself.
