Hello!
I wrote this short fic as a result of a tumble post I made some time ago about how similar Critty and Riven are. Later, I began to wonder what would happen if Riven and Critty would meet. The scenes in my head were so funny that I decided to share them with you 😹 And also because I'm a big cat lover. I hope you will enjoy it! Please let me know what you think :)
"You can't be serious, right?" Riven asked in disbelief, "No, Musa, I disagree! No!"
"But Riven..."
"No way!
"Oh, Riven! Don't be so grumpy. Just look at her! How can you say no to those sweet little eyes?"
Riven looked into the green eyes of the intruder seated in Musa's arms. They were definitely not sweet. The pink creature looked down on him as if it considered itself as something better.
Stupid furball.
Dragon! These pixies couldn't be let out of sight for even a moment, or else they started bonding with whatever would come their way. Riven couldn't understand it. He wondered, with what else they could form a "special bond"?
First, there was that Missy Good Manners, who always picked on him about something. Then some Sardine. And now this Mouse-eater!
Though now Riven saw that this Missy and the Sardine weren't so bad after all. At least they had their own homes. Not like this Mouse-eater that Musa had brought with her to their flat.
His girlfriend wanted the pet to live with them, to which Riven consistently had one response, "NO!"
"But Riven, please!"
At her plea, the tall Specialist merely turned away, as was his custom when he wanted to say that he had no intention of changing his mind.
Musa understood that in this case, a simple ask would not work on her boyfriend. Therefore, she decided to bring out the big guns.
She gently lowered Critty – her bound fairy animal – to the ground. Then she straightened up, snapped her fingers, and changed her hairstyle with magic.
From the loose and long hair that she wore for the last years was almost nothing left. Now her hair was short and tied in two pigtails. Exactly as it had been when she was sixteen years old and began her adventure in Alfea. This haircut not only made Musa look younger, but it also touched a soft spot in Riven. Nevertheless, the music fairy knew that it was still not enough to humour him.
She approached her stubborn boyfriend so that she could look him straight in the face. Musa was not surprised to see that the Specialist had his eyelids closed, his head raised high, and his arms crossed over his chest. Everything in his posture said that there was no chance that he would change his mind.
With one hand, Musa gently touched his muscular arm. She looked at him while raising her eyebrow arch to maximise her eyes size, the corners of her mouth lowered, and she curled her lower lip. Riven finally gave in and looked at her. His facial features immediately softened a little.
The music fairy knew how the puppy face combined with that haircut worked on her boyfriend. In six years of being in a relationship with this moody Specialist, Musa had learned which buttons to push to soften him up.
Riven knew that she knew about all his weaknesses and that she used them against him. Still, there was really nothing he could do about it.
"Please, love, just say yes. Please!"
"Ugh," he groaned and tried to look somewhere else, "I don't get it. Why can't the cat just sleep outside?"
"Honey, I already told you that she's in danger. We have to protect her from Brafilius and Kalshara."
Saying this, Musa walked even closer to him and placed both hands on his chest. She rode them up and down, feeling Riven's body slowly easing.
"But I hate cats! Can't you switch with Flora and bond with the dog?"
"I'm afraid that's impossible. But I promise I'll be the one to look after her. And you won't even notice she's here! You don't have to do anything around her. Nothing, zero, null!"
"Nothing?"
"Nothing."
"And she won't sleep in our bed?"
"No, I bought her a special cat bed."
"Hmm..."
Riven began to wonder. If he didn't have to do anything around this Mouse-eater, then, all in all, he couldn't care less whether it lived with them or not. He would have preferred a dog, of course. Dogs were at least useful. But no, the dog got to Helia, of course. And Riven ended up with a cat. A pink cat one on top of that.
All the cats he knew were lazy, arrogant, and mean. Dragon! How he hated cats...
Musa noticed the hesitation on his face, so she decided to use her ace in the hole.
"Riven, honey bunny, please! Say yes," Musa asked, putting her arms around his neck. She stood on her tiptoes to bring their faces closer, and in a hushed voice, she added, "You know that I can thank you very nicely."
Riven got goosebumps.
He swallowed his saliva loudly and felt his blood rushing to one spot. Oh, those damn pigtails!
Riven knew he would regret this decision, but what could the poor boy do? After all, he was just a guy. Moreover, a guy with a very attractive girlfriend.
"All right. Have it your way. The cat can stay here."
"YES! Thank you!"
Musa pulled him down so that she could comfortably place kisses all over his face. After a moment, however, she released him and joyfully jumped up to the pink cat. She picked it up and hugged it to her chest.
"Did you hear that, Critty? You can stay with us! Isn't that wonderful? Come, we'll look for a place for your bed and litter box."
"Litter box?!"
Hearing that word, his blood immediately returned to his brain. Dragon! What had he just gotten himself into?!
"Well, yes. After all, she has to do her business somewhere, right? And the litter box is better than our shoes. But don't worry, I'll clean everything up."
For some reason, Riven didn't feel relieved at all. Quite the opposite. The Specialist felt a rapidly growing headache. He sat down on the couch and began to massage his temples. In the meantime, Musa had left the room circling around their flat with that pink Mouse-eater.
How could he have agreed to this? A cat! Of all the animals in the world, why did it have to be a cat?!
Probably the only worse thing was that green creature Layla had bonded with. Riven didn't even know what kind of animal it was, but it was terribly annoying and overly sensitive. He wondered how Nex was dealing with it. As in Riven's case, empathy was not Nex's strong side.
These pixies really had too much power over them. They tempted them with skimpy outfits, pretty faces and those cute pigtails. And since sex had become a bargaining chip, they won practically every negotiation.
Riven was disappointed with himself. He should have been more assertive. Next time he must not allow himself to be manipulated so easily.
Maybe he should be the one to try blackmailing Musa with sex for a change? Yes, that's what he should do. But for a start, he needs to learn how to tell her no and how not to give in to her temptation.
"You know, I forgot something," Musa said, leaning against the door frame between the living room and the hallway. There was no sign of Critty.
"About what?"
Riven didn't even try to hide the fear in his voice. At this point, he wouldn't be surprised if it would turn out that Musa had formed a bond with a Troll, who was also going to live with them and whom she had forgotten to mention earlier.
"I forgot," she began, approaching him slowly," to thank you nicely."
"Oh."
This answer pleased him. A smile grew on the Specialist's face as he watched his girlfriend approach him alluringly.
Once Musa was by the couch, she straddled his lap. With the side of her index finger, she began to gently glide along his cheek. Moments later, she grasped him under the jaw, drawing his face to hers.
Their lips were only millimetres apart, but to Riven's frustration, Musa made no further move. About his resolution from a moment ago to be more continence, he had already completely forgotten. With every nanosecond, his excitement and irritation grew. But he couldn't deny that he also enjoyed it. Finally, Musa ended his suffering by leaning into his ear and whispering, "Let's go to the bedroom."
The fairy rose from his lap and offered him her hand. Riven stood up and let her lead him through their living room. At one point, Musa turned to face him and, maintaining eye contact, began to remove her black cardigan. A moment later, it was already lying on the floor. A sassy smile appeared on the Specialist's face. Following her, he began to unbutton his sweatshirt.
"Should I change back my hair?"
"Don't you dare!"
Musa just chuckled and soon more pieces of their clothing were landing on the ground. Once they were just in their underwear, the fairy started to run towards their bed, but Riven was faster. He caught her around the waist, took her in his arms, moved a few steps and then threw her onto the bed. Her body bounced gently on the mattress, and Musa quietly giggled.
Without hesitation, Riven straddled her and leaned over her. He began placing kisses along her neck, reaching the hollow above her collarbone. With his tongue, he began to make there small circles causing her to moan quietly in pleasure. At the same time, his hand played with the band of her panties. Riven considered whether he wanted to waste time removing them or whether it would be better to just tear them off by force.
"Meow!"
.
.
Riven stiffened.
.
.
"Meooow!"
In slow motion, the Specialist turned his head and looked down.
"What the..."
On the floor right next to their bed sat that Mouse-eater and looked straight at them.
"Shoo! Get out of here, you stupid cat!"
"Honey, just ignore her."
"I can't, Musa. She's staring right at us!"
Irritated, Riven extended his arm towards the creature and began to scare it away with his palm, "Shoo!"
The furball looked at him unimpressed. She just lifted her paw and began to lick it, with one eye still looking towards the couple on the bed.
"Arrr!" he growled, "get out of here, now!
"Riven, please just don't pay attention to her."
"But she's staring at us!"
"Look at me."
Riven looked. And the sight of the still vivid blush on Musa's cheeks made him instantly forget everything else.
His attention was once again only on the fairy beneath him. Immediately he returned to what he had been doing before.
He kissed her on the lips, which she opened, allowing their tongues to meet. With his hand, he began to slide along her waist. Still undecided whether he wanted to start with her breasts or go down straight away.
"MEOW!"
Riven frozen again. But this time, he didn't turn around.
"MEOOOW!"
"I'm sure she'll get bored soon. Just concentrate on me, Riven."
And that was exactly what he wanted to do mor than anything else. But hearing that annoying and increased meowing, it was easier said than done.
With all his willpower, he tried to forget about this intruder. Musa helped him a little by slipping her tiny hand under his boxers.
He began kissing her again, deepening the kiss further and further. Eventually, the meowing became just a background sound that he no longer paid attention to. His focus was only on her. He could feel the excitement growing in him with every movement of her hand.
But they were still wearing too many clothes. So he decided to do something about it. Riven began pressing one hand into the space between her back and the mattress, looking for the clasp of her bra.
And just then, Critty sprang onto their bed.
As if burned, Riven moved aside, and seeing the pink creature fawning to Musa, he jumped off their bed in annoyance.
"No! This is too much!"
"Riven, hon..."
"No, Musa! No 'Riven, honey'! That's not what we agreed on! I... You... That cat! Ah!"
Riven started yanking his hair. He took a deep breath to calm himself, but it was fucking useless. He wanted to rip the pink-furry-thing into shreds!
But Musa would surely be angry with him for that.
This was a goddamn nightmare! And the worst part was that Riven could only blame himself. After all, he had agreed to let the Mouse-eater live with them. If he had been more assertive, he wouldn't be in this mess right now.
"I'm going to take a shower," he announced after a moment. "Meanwhile, you do something about that cat!"
Without waiting for her reaction, he turned and rushed to the bathroom. Angrily, he shucked off his boxers and jumped into the shower. He turned on the tap with the blue dot and jumped slightly as the cold water hit his skin. As the initial shock passed, his body began to relax. He could also feel that his nerves were slowly calming down.
Riven stood in the shower for a few minutes until he felt that he was relatively calm. He pulled back the shower curtain, began to wipe himself with a towel and stepped out of the tub. But when his foot touched the ground, he felt something very different from the cold of the bathroom tiles.
He looked down and saw that his freshly washed foot was now standing in the middle of the litter box.
"You have got to be kidding me!"
In one movement, he jumped back into the tub and began to wash his foot compulsively.
"I hate cats! I hate, hate, hate them!" he said in his head, "That stupid furball is lucky it's nowhere near! Otherwise, I would have made a rug out of it."
When he finally considered himself as clean and his foot no longer ''contaminated'' from the contact with the litter box, he stepped out of the tub again. This time being extremely careful about where he put his feet on.
He returned to the bedroom with a towel tied around his waist. The room was completely empty now, no sign of Musa or the Mouse-eater. But he could hear her melodious voice coming from somewhere around the kitchen.
Riven changed into his pyjamas, and while doing so, he noticed that the special bed for the Mouse-eater that Musa had mentioned was located in their bedroom. He made a mental note to talk to the fairy about moving it somewhere else.
He then made his way to the living room, passing the kitchen, where, as he suspected, Musa was feeding the stupid furball. He didn't stop, just went on. The Specialist was calmer but not yet completely cooled down. And he certainly wasn't ready yet to see this Mouse-eater that had spoiled his evening.
In order to occupy his thoughts with something else, he decided to do something relaxing. He grabbed his tablet, pen and sat down on the couch.
Some time ago, Helia suggested him to look for a creative way to relieve stress. Working out was still his favourite way to de-stress, but unfortunately, it was not always possible.
First, he tried writing down his thoughts but couldn't bring himself to write more than three sentences.
Then he tried painting. And he had to admit that scribbling on the canvas with his hands dipped in paint was indeed helpful. But it also always caused a terrible mess around. And Riven was a quite pedantic person. Therefore, it didn't work in the long run.
Finally, he decided to give drawing with a simple pencil on paper a try. And it turned out that it was exactly what he was looking for!
Unlike Helia, he didn't draw romantic landscapes, animals, or portraits (even of Musa). They moved way too much and without warning. Instead, he preferred to draw objects.
The Specialist started with drawing his weapons but quickly switched to something as ordinary as a chair. Furniture became his favourite subject of drawing, and quite soon, he started creating his own designs. It wasn't long before he also became fond of drawing architecture, interiors and even entire buildings.
Once Brandon found one of his drawings and started teasing him about it. After this incident, he switched from paper to his tablet and computer graphics. This way, no one could see his drawings without his knowledge. So, one day he decided to start a project which had been on his mind for a long time.
It was a project that he hoped to actually realise someday.
A project of a house in which he and Musa could live in.
Musa, of course, didn't know about it. No one knew about it. It was his secret project, and working on it always made him feel a little bit happier. So that was what he decided to work on tonight, to forget about this intruder that had invaded their peaceful household.
Riven concentrated entirely on designing the garden terrace. However, he could hear Musa coming out of the kitchen, taking a shower, and talking to that Mouse-eater in their bedroom. After a while, there was complete silence, so he assumed that his girlfriend had gone to sleep. But he was still awake after the cold shower, so the Specialist decided to keep drawing. At some point, his eyes began to hurt from the screen. When he looked at his watch, he saw that it was almost one in the morning.
Riven put the tablet down and walked quietly back to their bedroom. He didn't turn on the light so as not to wake Musa. Though, the moonlight was bright enough for him to see the tiny silhouette of his sleeping girlfriend and...
"What was that Mouse-eater doing on their bed?!"
Riven felt his blood boiling inside him again.
That was not the deal! The Mouse-eater was not supposed to sleep with them!
Musa wouldn't do that to him. He knew that. So that stupid furball must have climbed onto their bed by itself while she was already asleep.
But if this intruder thought Riven would accept that, she was sorely mistaken.
The Specialist began to shake the body of the Mouse-eater with his hand to wake it up and chase it away.
He was not yet aware of the mistake he had made. And then suddenly… he felt sharp claws digging into his arm.
At the last moment, Riven stopped himself from groaning aloud in pain. The pink cat puffed up and assumed its pose, ready to throw itself at him again with claws and teeth.
Riven didn't feel like getting into a fight with this Mouse-eater in the middle of the night. Especially with Musa sleeping just nearby.
He decided that tomorrow, he would think about how to get rid of the creature. Right now, the Specialist was too tired for that. He went back to the living room and lay down on the sofa.
While falling asleep, there was only one thought going around in his head, "I really, really hate cats."
