At The End Of The Day

Korra was just a teenager when they first met.

A charming and handsome man. From the night of the gala, to working together on the Task Force, Tarrlok was too good to be true, and he was.

He was already married.

He told her that the marriage was just a political union between the Earth Kingdom and Republic City. A peace merger so the Kingdom and the Water Tribe could be bonded in friendship. They only cared and respected each other out of a deep friendship. Nothing more.

Most men would tell a lie like that, but she knew he was telling the truth.

And they were glorious days.

Going to the beach, bend sparring each other and making sandcastles until the sunset. The beach house was a place where they hid themselves from the world. She remembered the sea salt air breezing through the window as they made love in Fire Nation silk bedsheets.

She bore him two children, their Kenai and Nita.

Each time she fell pregnant, she hid herself when she really started to show. She kept them on the compound, just as she was kept as a child as well when she was discovered to be the Avatar.

Her parents weren't too happy that she carried on that way. Instead of a proper marriage and family, she was having an affair with a married man and had his children. She should be grateful they didn't disown her, for they helped keep the secret.

It was a miracle their affair was never found out from the start.

It was a life they could never have. They could never be married in this life, though he told her at the end of the day, it was always going to be Korra that held his heart.
