The Boy who was Left Behind
Sirius Remus Potter was Harry Potter's twin brother. The problem? He didn't have magic leaving him in the hands of the Dursley when Harry left. It did not go well. (Warning child abuse) (One-shot)
Note: Thank you JraittM for being a beta reader to this one-shot.
Harry was special, Sirius knew that from the moment odd things happened around him whenever Harry was beside him. Harry might be clueless about it, but Sirius wasn't. After all, he's pretty sure hair didn't just randomly grow back while his hair took weeks to grow back after Aunt Petunia shaved it off.
So, yes, Harry was special even more so when letters kept coming sent by owls and then raining down upon you inside a house, but that was the thing. The letters were addressed to Harry James Potter. They were not address to Sirius Remus Potter, none of them were.
"If I am going to a different school. Maybe, I can write the Headmaster a letter to see if you can come," Harry said.
"I don't think they would let you, Harry."
"We've got to try Sirius."
It wouldn't work, Sirius knew this it wouldn't work because if he was meant to go to this school then he would've gotten the letters to.
An idea occurred to Sirius. If Harry went to school, he would be far away from their aunt and uncle. Sure, Sirius would still be right at the heart of it, but Harry wouldn't have to worry. He would rather, one twin got away then both be stuck here.
"Just go Harry."
"But I can…"
"Harry."
Just don't make him yell, Sirius thought. Don't be stubborn, don't make him yell and tell him something that he just going to regret. Just take it and run because Harry got to escape.
"Alright, Sirius. But I'll still ask at least."
Even if his smile was nothing, but a sad one it was still something because Harry got to go. Harry got to get out escape.
However, what Sirius didn't see coming is when both Harry and Dudley left to go to their own school it left a lot of time for Sirius to be the main target.
Harry went and in the back of the car Sirius waved sadly at his twin who waved in return. This was the first time the Potter twins had ever been separate.
Stonewall high was a boarding school and he got bullied. A lot. He got bullied for his low grades. He got bullied for his glasses he got bullied for his clothes being too big and for not having the right supplies. It wasn't just name calling either some of the bullies would punch him for it leaving big black bruises on his skin.
The teachers tried to send letters to his aunt and uncle to tell them what had happened. Not like they would care because his aunt and uncle never replied to the letters. The teachers asked if he was having family issues at home, Sirius learnt how to avoid answering. He knew that they would not fix anything.
Sirius ended up arriving at Dursleys earlier then Harry did. Dudley arrived home first. Punching him in his already sore arm and Uncle Vernon would hit him when Aunt Petunia or Dudley was not looking.
When Harry did come home, he tried his best to comfort a neglected Sirius, but all his brother wanted to do was stay hidden in the shadows. He had learnt at Stonewall that bullies couldn't hurt you if they couldn't find you so hiding in the shadows is what he learnt to adjust.
Then that flying car came, but there wasn't enough room for two so Sirius did his best to get Harry and his owl in there. And, yes Harry, go he had to move out of the way just so Harry wouldn't waste time getting to him. Sirius the second moved out of the way just in time as Uncle Vernon ended up falling out of the house and landing in the garden below.
Uncle Vernon was furious, and Aunt Petunia took Dudley into another room.
"You planned this boy, didn't you?"
"What? No, I didn't know about it."
He was telling the truth he didn't know that Harry friends we're planning to come by and break the bars on the window. He swore that he didn't know.
Not that it would matter because his Uncle's face was a dark shade of red and the next thing, he knows he on ground. He hears Aunt Petunia scream.
"Vernon you weren't meant to hit him."
"Mummy, Sirius is bleeding."
Was he?
He didn't remember.
All he knew is that someone let out a gasp and his head felt sore. He hears someone calling out his name.
"Sirius."
It sounds sweet and caring, mother like. He opens his eyes and sees someone with red hair and green eyes like Harry's, but the woman before him isn't Harry. Next to her he sees a man that looks just like him and Harry.
"Mum?"
The redhaired woman opens her arms to him and he finds himself walking towards them being welcomed by a hug.
"I can't believe it, those muggles killed him Lily. They killed our son."
All he hears is crying as the hug around him got tighter.
Everyone was shocked to hear that Harry Potter had a squib twin brother. They were especially shocked that Harry's brother was a squib because his magic was so powerful. But Harry didn't care, Sirius was his brother, and he would always care about him magic or no magic. He was worried about Sirius throughout the whole year and when he was rescued by the Weasleys he franticly insisted that they return to get his brother left to the hands of the Dursleys.
It was early morning when Harry stresses the fact that he needs to go back because his brother is still at the Dursley's. Mrs. Weasley asks why, and all Harry can say is that his aunt and uncle are the worst sort of muggles and that his brother couldn't go to Hogwarts because Sirius had no magic. They found police at the Dursley's.
"Harry!" Dudley called.
Which is never a good thing because Dudley just didn't call him Harry. Nor did he come running to him with a look of panic and fear.
"Is that your cousin?" Ron asked as Dudley came running to him.
"Yeah," said Harry.
"It's Mum and Dad and Sirius. They're taking Dad away because he killed him, Harry. He killed Sirius."
Harry didn't take that well. His legs started to shake, and he started to moan in despair when he saw the body and too much blood on the kitchen floor. All he knew was that nothing would be okay again and someone is hugging him as he cries because he feels something missing. Something inside of him is missing and he wonders what before he starts to understand that something was Sirius. That the emptiness inside he feels inside was a place for his twin brother who Harry never got to see again because his Uncle killed him.
The following day every wizard and witch, had heard the news that Sirius Remus Potter was dead, killed by his uncle. It was quickly found out that Harry's homelife was not what it seemed, and the noble families demanded that Harry to be removed from the muggle world. After his removal from the muggle world, he ended up in the care of the Longbottom family almost having Neville as a brother. It was odd at first, but he slowly adjusted. He still cried about his twin brother's death and Neville did his best to help.
Dudley had been taken in by Aunt Marge and surprisingly, Dudley and Harry kept in touch. Dudley expressed in at least six dozen letters that he didn't know his father was beating Sirius. He didn't know any of that until the day Sirius ended up dead on the kitchen floor.
He also didn't know that Sirius had been bullied at Stonewall high and let's just say Dudley and his group of friends, gladly showed those bullies whose boss after they tracked down the kids that beat the crap out of Harry's twin.
The worst part was that Harry didn't have any photos of his twin. He got photos of his parents and their friends, but none of Sirius because Aunt Petunia and Uncle Venom never took any which only made his heart ache more.
When Sirius Black escaped and Harry found himself with a big black dog behind the Longbottom Manor, moaning and at first Harry thought the dog was in pain. Only to realize he was crying over a loss. A loss, Harry didn't know what sort, but the dog was terribly upset and maybe it was a good thing he didn't trip over because he quickly found out that dog was a man. At first Harry thought he was here to kill him. Since everybody had told him to stay away from Sirius Black but looking into the man's eyes Harry could tell he wasn't here to kill Harry.
He found out the truth about his parents and even though Mrs. Longbottom didn't like the fact that he was walking beside a grim of all things. She at least allowed Harry to take the dog to where his twin was burrowed. Sirius sat in front of the child grave for days, Harry brought blankets and ask the house elves to bring sound warm food and no, not dog food. (The house elves were confused by this request but followed their instructions anyways)
Telling Professor Lupin, the truth was a little bit harder than expected. Especially, at first when the teacher tried to kill Sirius Black before Harry stepped in and explained on Sirius behalf.
Professor Lupin ended up hugging Harry and telling him how sorry he was to leave the two brothers behind. Harry just hugs his father's friend tighter, silent tears rolling down his cheeks.
When Harry was hit by the Killing Curse in the battle of Hogwarts it wasn't his Headmaster that welcomed him, but the version of his brother who stay young while he grew old.
"Hi big brother." Said Sirius.
Harry blinked at the news.
"What? Oh, I supposed we didn't know in life huh? Well, that's okay because I've been spending a lot of time with Mum and Dad and Uncle Sirius told me that you were born before me. So, even though we're twins, you're still older. Meaning you're my big brother."
Harry started crying.
"Don't cry Harry."
He cried harder pulling Sirius in for a hug and they talked.
They talked for a little bit about things that happened in life before Harry made his choice to go back. He wanted to stay, but Sirius got upset with him and told him that he needed to beat the big bad. So, he returned, and he won the war.
After the war, Harry decided that witches needed to learn the signs of child abuse. Not only to stop another Tom from happening, but also so another twin didn't lose their other half like Harry lost his. It took some time, but in the end Child Safety was being trained to both students and adults alike to help them spot these signs.
Normally, it would've been a difficult change to make since many purebloods wouldn't even dream of learning such a thing, but the elders were no longer in power. Allowing Harry's generation to step up and since many of them were there when it occurred, he had their support. Even Draco Malfoy stepped up and slowly, but surely the wizarding world was slowly changing for the better.
Harry would never forget his twin brother something he had in common with George who lost Fred after the war and went to Harry for advice.
He still missed him though. He still missed Sirius and it was one of his biggest regrets that Harry Potter would have for the rest of his life despite everyone trying their best to comfort him. It didn't help that every time he looked in the mirror, he saw his brother dead on the kitchen floor.
