Maybe Someday

Chapter 1

Amanda was heading home from work with a lot on her mind. She and Lee wrapped up the case with Carmine's parents being safe once more, and Sally told her over the phone that she and Carmine were getting married.

When Amanda had mentioned it to Lee earlier in the "Q" Bureau after the phone call, he'd overheard the "Maybe someday" line and asked her about it, and she repeated what Sally had asked about. Whether Amanda would marry again, and Amanda told him that she had said, "I dunno, maybe someday," sparking an interesting reaction from Lee as he left the office, stating, "Heh.", making Amanda smile about that reaction!

But the more Amanda thought about it, the more that questions came to her mind, such as, Would they really be ready for that step, and how would her family feel?

Shaking her head as she turned off the turnpike and headed for Maplewood Drive, she muttered, "Mother would be over the moon, and the boys...Well, they'd have to get to know Lee first, and-Oh my gosh!"

She then suddenly made a u-turn, going in the opposite direction, and pulled into a side street with a dead end area two blocks from home, and parking at the curb, turned off the motor for a moment to calm herself.

Sighing, she thought, Get a hold of yourself, Amanda! You're reading too much into it. Lee isn't even close to proposing! He hasn't hinted at all in that direction!

But, as her mind turned over once more, she thought about how Lee responded to Sally's question. It made Amanda wonder where exactly Lee's thinking was going.

She shook her head once more, stating aloud to herself, "Oh, c'mon! Remember the saying, "Don't put the cart before the horse", Or was it, "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched"?

Amanda groaned thinking, Great, Amanda. Now you sound like your grandparents did when you were little!

Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, she started the motor once more, and turning into a driveway nearby, backed the car up to pull out carefully and heading toward her block finally, chastised herself along the way saying, "Don't be one of those women that assumes that her man wants to get married, Amanda! When and if the time comes, you and Lee will both know it!"

Meanwhile, a safe distance behind her, Lee was puzzled at what he saw a few moments ago. He'd been on the way to Amanda's house, when he saw her turn into a nearby block which wasn't near her neighborhood, and saw her park the car at a curb.

Why was she just sitting there, he wondered as he slowed his car down? He thought about parking his car at the curb at the entrance, and getting out of his car and going to see if she was alright, but changed his mind as he saw her coming a few moments later to exit the block, and quickly took a detour to her house through some side streets, hoping she hadn't known he was behind her.

As Lee slowly made his way driving toward Amanda's house, his thoughts were also on that particular phone call that he'd heard about between Amanda and Sally. Thinking back on his reaction, he kicked himself as he shook his head stating, "Way to go, Stetson! You don't want her thinking about marriage when you're not even sure about it yet!"

But as he at last turned into Maplewood Drive, and parked at the curb a good distance from Amanda's home, he said blankly, "Or... am I?"
