"Sai, Hinata. Great work today," Kakashi said as he dismissed the two shinobi standing before him.
The two-man cell bowed to Kakashi and left.
Sai held the door open for Hinata as they walked out of the Hokage's office.
She smiled her thanks even as his face crinkled into one of his.
As they stepped out of the Hokage Tower and walked down the steps that led them outside into the streets of Konoha, a group of young kunoichi passed them by.
"I saw them earlier today at the park. He brought his son with him and they were playing by the water. He's such a great father, but I couldn't keep my eyes off him!" one of the girls was saying.
"Oh, but it helps that he's so gorgeous!" another voice chimed in.
"Yeah, Naruto-senpai is such a dilf!" squealed another girl.
There was more giggling but the voices became fainter as the group of girls walked further away from Hinata and Sai.
Hinata heard Naruto's name, quickly glanced behind her, and frowned.
"Dilf," she muttered under her breath.
Sai looked behind them at the squealing girls and then turned his gaze back to Hinata.
"Is what they are saying bothering you?" he asked.
Hinata tilted her head and met his gaze as they continued walking. "It would, Sai, if I knew what they were talking about."
Sai looked surprised. "Hinata, you don't know what a dilf is?"
She shook her head and shrugged. "Sorry, Sai. This is the first time I'm hearing the word?"
Sai smiled. "Well, you see, Hinata. A dilf is..."
Splat!
A blob of mushy baby food splattered onto his cheek. This was followed by a childish giggle, which made Naruto smile at his two-year-old sitting in his high chair.
"Boruto!" he chided gently as he wiped his cheek then bent down to pick up the spoon that had clattered to the floor.
Boruto only laughed harder and swung his legs up and down while he reached for his sliced apples with his grubby hands. He continued chomping on his food and smiled at his father when his head appeared into view.
Naruto humphed but then he laughed good-naturedly. "We need a bath, you and me."
"Bath!" Boruto yelled happily.
"Are you done with dinner?" he asked the toddler.
Boruto nodded. "Yeah."
Naruto looked at the clock. There was enough time to get them both cleaned up before Hinata came back from her mission with Sai today.
They sat in the tub, the warm water soothing. Naruto tried to relax but it was difficult when Boruto kept splashing around and smacking his toys on the surface of the water.
Still, though, a smile lingered on his face as he watched Boruto play with his plastic ducks.
"Kaa-chan's coming home soon. You think you can stay up and wait for her?"
Boruto's eyes lit up with joy. "Kaa-chan!" He nodded excitedly.
In the end, though, Boruto couldn't hold out against sleep. The day at the park had tired him out. They were both sprawled on the sofa drowsing away when Hinata walked in later that night.
Hinata's softly-spoken "I'm home!" from the entrance was greeted by silence.
She walked into the living room and saw them sleeping peacefully, her son lying on his stomach atop Naruto, his hand on his father's cheek.
Her heart turned over and a blissful smile spread over her face.
Just then, Naruto opened his eyes and gave a sleepy yawn. It took him a second to realize she was beside them. "Hmm? Hinata? Welcome home."
Hinata leaned down and gave Boruto a quick kiss on his head and then a slower one on Naruto's lips. Then she looked into his eyes and with a smile filled with love, said, "Oh, Naruto, you really are such a dilf."
She missed the tensing of his body and the look of surprise on his face because she'd already turned around and was heading for the bathroom. "I'm just going to take a quick shower because I'm really dirty from my mission right now."
Slowly, so that he wouldn't wake his son, Naruto stood up and walked the few steps to Boruto's bedroom. He brought him to the crib and laid the boy down into a comfortable position. When Boruto fussed and complained sleepily, Naruto patted him reassuringly on the tummy. Eventually, the toddler quieted and went back to sleep—while Naruto pondered the words his wife had just told him.
She walked into Boruto's bedroom a few minutes later. She was still toweling her hair dry. She smiled at him then looked down at their sleeping son.
"I still can't get over how much he looks like you," she said.
"Yeah," he said with a smile as he also looked down and watched Boruto sleep. "I hope that's a good thing?"
She laughed. She reached over and squeezed his arm. "It is!"
Naruto brought his gaze back to her face and cleared his throat. "Hinata? You just called me a dilf a few minutes ago, before your shower."
Filled with happiness, she beamed at him. "Yeah! I learned the word today. Sai told me what it meant."
His face puckered into a slight frown and he looked at her suspiciously. "Um, what exactly did he say?"
Seeing the expression on his face, Hinata's smile started dimming. She was filled with instant dread. "Dilf means Dad I'd Like to Follow, right?"
His eyes widened as she continued to explain: "Sai said it's because you're such a great example of what a good father should be. That guys should all follow your lead because of the way you treat Boruto…"
"That asshole!"
Hinata gasped. "Wait, does it mean something different?!"
So he told her.
Hinata blinked rapidly, shock on her face as she finally understood the real meaning of the word.
Then she blushed to the roots of her hair and placed her hands over her face as she shook her head rapidly sideways. "Argh! And I kept up a conversation with Sai the entire time calling you a d-d-dilf! And he just kept smiling at me so normally! I'm so embarrassed!"
Seeing her so flustered made him chuckle. "It's fine, Hinata!"
She shook her head again, her hands never leaving her face. "No, it's not! I can die of shame right now!"
He walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her. She didn't look at him, only hid her hot face against his chest. Still smiling, he pressed his lips against the top of her hair and asked, "What brought about the topic?"
She shook her head.
"Hinata…" he murmured cajolingly. "Come on. You got me curious."
She sighed then tightened her arms around his body. Still with her face pressed against his shirt, she mumbled, "All because I heard some girls use the word when they were talking about you today."
This time, he blushed and was happy that she couldn't see his expression. But he couldn't help the tone of wonder that crept into his voice when he said, "Well! I guess I'm flattered?"
Hinata heard it and was filled with gratitude that she was in their home, in the room where the proof of their love lay sleeping peacefully. That his arms were around her and made her feel so cherished.
That he was hers to love and for him to love her back.
Embarrassment died. Something else filled her.
She pulled back and looked up into his eyes. "And you know, Naruto, they have a right to be jealous because you're all mine."
The breath left him in a whoosh and he smiled into her eyes. His hands drifted playfully down her back, snuck under her t-shirt, and started caressing her bare skin. With an impish smile, he asked, "So how about it then? Want to show me why I'm such a dilf?"
She laughed and reached up to plant her lips over his mouth even as his hands moved lower to cup her butt and press her more firmly onto his body. He then carried her to their bedroom where he emphatically proceeded to show her why a lot of people thought of him that way.
The next day, Naruto found his target walking in front of him.
"Sai! You bastard!"
Sai heard the insult, but he was so used to hearing them from Naruto that he turned around with a smile on his face—only to meet a fist colliding into his chest, making him grunt with pain.
Naruto was glowering at him.
"Naruto, was it really necessary to punch me?" Sai asked when he could finally breathe. He rubbed at his solar plexus.
"Yes!" Naruto said. "That was for Hinata, for your joke on her and making her feel embarrassed!"
Sai's eyes crinkled merrily as he laughed. "I couldn't help it. But tell her I said I'm sorry. I was just trying to have a little bit of fun at your expense."
Naruto looked away for a bit and mumbled, "Yeah, well I guess it's okay. It ended all right."
"Oh?"
Naruto suddenly flushed. Slowly, he asked, "Did you eat lunch yet? I'll treat you and buy you a beer."
Sai's eyebrows rose up in surprise this time.
Naruto's blush deepened. He reached an arm up to scratch at his cheek in embarrassment. "This one is from me. I wanted to thank you because I had to show her what dilf really meant last night."
Sai smirked knowingly. "In that case, I'm going to order the most expensive thing on the menu then."
