Greetings everyone. This is simply me explaining the text markers. Also I wanted to do a fic where Doug was saved instead of Carley to be different, but I feel like people would prefer Carley, so she is here.
'This is so bad' – Someone's thoughts.
"You are a murderer, Lee Everett." – Someone adding extra emphasis
This bold text is what I use when I am talking to you all. Anyways I hope you like this fic.
Lee sighs. He just looks on sadly as he looks down at the carcass of a rabbit.
"What did they get this time?" A white man with glasses says, his blue eyes showing an aura of sadness.
This guy was Mark, a former Air Force member. He had met up with the Motor Inn group a while back. He was alone in a commissary full of food.
"Looks like a rabbit." Lee sighs sadly.
"That's another meal gone." Mark says, his stubbled face now down.
The two men walk through the woods, trying to hunt for food. Lee carrying his trusty fireaxe and Mark carrying a Springfield M1903.
"I still can't believe that we ran through all of that Commissary food in three months. It seemed like so much at the time."
"Maybe you shouldn't have opened the door." Lee replied
"Yeah, except then I would be food by now. Trust me, no regrets." Mark says, looking forward.
"Eh a rabbit is hardly a meal Mark, but I'd take it. We're all hungry." Lee says, looking at Mark.
The two continue trekking forward. The autumn Georgian breeze would be relaxing if things were not so dire.
"Yeah no kidding. When I accidentally grabbed for Carley's rations the other night, I thought she was going to take off my head." Mark says fearfully.
The look on her face was one he would remember forever in the endless nightmares of the new world. Between her and Lilly, something he didn't know which woman was scarier.
"Cut her some slack Mark. We're all a little on edge." Lee says sighing. The food situation was really bad. They were slowly coming to a starving point.
"I wish I knew for sure how much food we have left." Mark says focusing his attention on walking now.
"Not enough. According to Lilly, we just about hit the last of our food reserves." Lee says shaking his head.
"Some people might have to go without tonight." Lee adds on.
"You mean Lilly's lottery again? Kenny is gonna be pissed." Mark adds on, trying to stay focused despite the hunger eating away at him. It was surprising his stomach hasn't rumbled.
"Yeah she thinks everyone should have an equal chance of missing a meal." Lee looks down, remembering the sad look on Clementine's face when she wasn't given food one night.
"You think Kenny is having anymore luck than we are?" Mark asks, trying to change the subject.
"I sure hope so."
"Yeah between the Kenny and Lilly war and the lack of food, things are looking bad back at the Motor Inn." Mark says shaking his head.
"You know Kenny says he is thinking about taking off once he can get the RV running." Mark adds, looking forward, a wind blows, making him shiver slightly.
"He's got a family to look out for."
"Still being in a big group can help them more. They leave and they all die." Mark says, giving his opinion. Mark continues.
"I don't blame him though. Did you hear Larry going off on him last night? Whats with the old man's deal anyway? He seems to have a problem with you especially." Mark searches the woods.
"He thinks I'm a danger to the group. To Clementine!" Lee shouts in disbelief. After saving the old man from his own heart problems and months passing he still didn't get off of his back!
Before Mark can respond, a bird flies and lands on a tree. Both men take cover behind some brush.
"Think you can hit that?" Lee says, eyeing the bird.
"If I didn't, I would not risk the noise."
Mark takes the shot and misses.
Before either can lament about their loss, screams cut through the air. Their eyes widen as they both run towards the screams.
"Shit! You think that's Kenny?" Mark asks in a frenzy, turning his head to try and find where the screams came from.
Another ear-piercing scream echos across the woods as both men immediately run to it. They rush to the screams and see something horrible.
There was a skinny lanky boy with blonde hair, his leg stuck in a bear trap. A bearded man that was trying his best to get it off. A boy with black hair that was panicking, his hands on his head and his eyes wide. All 3 of them wearing letterman jackets with the initals 'SM'.
The boy screams again.
"Jesus Christ." Mark says while looking at the kid in disbelief. What the hell?
The black haired boy's eyes widen to saucers.
"Oh no! Please don't kill us! We just want to get him free, we'll leave I swear!" The black haired boy shouts in a panic.
Kenny rushes from some bushes at the same time.
"Shit! Lee you guys okay?" Kenny asks, looking at his companions.
"GET IT OFF! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET IT OFF!" The blonde boy shouts, tears streaming down his face.
"Travis! They can help us!" The man shouts, looking at the black-haired boy. He was having no luck with getting the boy free from the trap. Nothing he does helped, it only caused the boy to scream more.
"Mr. Parker my dad was special forces, I can tell you what to do!" he shouts back.
"Besides, these could be the same group that raided our camp!" Travis adds on, scared.
"They aren't aiming their guns at us Travis, they want to help us! We have to get Ben free!" The man shouts back. His face was a mix of fear and dread. Although he didn't show it, he also feared the guys, but right now his top priority was getting Ben free.
"What guys? Who raided your camp?" Mark asks.
"I don't know! Guys with guns!" Travis says, eyeing their guns with fear.
"Please get me out of this…" Ben says, panting as his face contorts in pain.
"Please help us! I just want to free my student. We will leave you alone after, please just help us." The brown haired man pleas, looking at Lee.
"Mr. Parker no! We can't trust them." Travis says, looking at Mr. Parker in disbelief. After escaping the raid, Travis never wanted to trust strangers again. Seeing his friends get massacred would forever scar the young lad.
"Why the hell is there a bear trap out here?" Kenny questions, looking at the trap puzzled.
The familiar groans of the dead echo across the forest as walkers start to be drawn towards Ben's screams.
"Oh no…" Travis says, looking around frantically.
Mark quickly puts his gun down and checks the trap for the release latch. To his horror, he notices that there was no release latch.
"Lee this trap has been altered! There is no release latch!" Mark shouts. He had never seen something like this before. Who the hell would make something like this?
Lee takes charge.
"Okay! Mark keep the boy back! Kenny, keep those walkers off of me! Parker help me out here!" He shouts. Kenny and Mark nod.
"Thank god! Its David, and I'll help in any way I can." The teacher nods, eyes shining with fear.
"David keep him calm while I try to find a way to get him free." Lee says looking around. David nods and tries his best to reassure Ben that things are gonna be okay.
The first thing Lee tries is cutting the chain.
"We use those in the Air Force to lift ordinance, no way you're cutting through that." Mark says, turning to Lee, then firing at walkers.
"Damn." Lee says, he looks and sees a rock. Maybe trying the chain one last time was the move…
He tries to smash it but like Mark said, the chain wasn't budging.
'Maybe I can use the axe to pry it open.'
"It will be okay Ben. These guys are here to get you free." David says, placing a hand on his shoulder.
'Dear God please help my student.'
"Think about band, think about Clarissa, you two were good friends right? Think about life before this apocalypse." David says, trying to stop Ben from screaming.
"O-okay. I-I think that AAAAHHHHH!" Ben screams as Lee tries to use his Fire Axe to pry the trap open. It felt as if his leg was about to become mush any second.
"FUCK! STOP IT! STOP IT PLEASE!" He shouts in agony. A white hot pain traveling from his leg to his whole body.
Lee looks around. The chain was unbreakable. Prying the trap does nothing. He looks at the tree the trap is wrapped around. Its thick, it would take hours to chop down, time they didn't have.
Lee knew there were 2 options left. Either try to chop the tree or chop the kid's leg free. He didn't think he could bring himself to do the second option. Not to mention the fact he might die from blood loss before they make it back.
He begins to hack away at the tree until Kenny yelled.
"Fuck we're wasting ammo at this point. We gotta go now Lee!" Kenny shouts, gesturing towards the now bigger group of walkers to emphasize his point. The groaning of the dead grows louder as more get drawn toward Ben's screams.
They were slowly getting surrounded.
"NO PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME BEHIND! TRY THE TRAP AGAIN!" Ben shouts, his face contorted in pain and horror. The last thing he wanted was to be left behind to those things.
Lee sighs, giving the kid a sad look. No way could he chop his leg out, he couldn't bring himself to do that.
"I'm sorry…" Lee says, turning away from the struggling Ben.
"No, we can't leave him!" David shouts in disbelief. The former Band director was frozen in place. The situation dawning on him.
"There is no other option than to chop his leg off. I don't think I could do it…" Lee says, shaking his head.
Travis was having none of this, his breathing picked up and his hands shake. He had to get his friend and get out of here now!
"Give me the axe! I'll do it!" He shouts in a panic, trying to take the axe from Lee. There was a brief struggle until Mark smacked him on the back of the head with the butt of his gun. Travis was out cold.
David and Lee look at him shocked.
"Look the kid was clearly panicking and was going to get himself or someone else hurt. It had to be done." Mark says solemnly, looking at the two apologetically.
"David grab him! We can't do nothing for the kid anymore. There isn't any time!" Kenny shouts, running towards the Motor Inn.
David knew there was no other option. He picks up the unconscious Travis and gives one last look at Ben.
"NO PLEASE! MR. PARKER DON'T LEAVE ME! YOU CAN'T! I'LL DIE OUT HERE!" Ben shouts, trying to pry the trap open himself, despite the pain.
"I'm sorry Ben. There is nothing we can do." David runs, not sparing a glance at his student. He couldn't bring himself to look at him.
"NOOOOOOOOOO!" Ben shouts. The walkers are on him immediately, they bite into his neck and rip out his entrails. His screams echo across the forest, drawing in even more walkers.
Kenny, Mark, Lee, and David who carries an unconscious Travis rush towards the Motor Inn.
Lilly was keeping her eyes peeled, surveying the woods that surround the Motor Inn she now calls home.
Everyone else was either working on the wall or relaxing.
Watch was boring, but who knows what the guys could bring back. She hopes for all of their sakes they could possibly bring back something huge like a giant Buck.
Clementine kicked a soccer ball into barrels.
"They should be back by now…" She mutters to herself. She really hopes that Lee- that everyone was okay.
She soons hears rustling. The sound of the soccer ball hitting the metal barrel was too loud.
She loudly whistles. Everyone immediately hide. They practiced this drill multiple times.
She focuses her eyes, trying to see through the bushes. Was it the guys? Or was it someone else? Her thoughts are answered immediately.
"GET THE GATES OPEN!" she hears the familiar voice of Lee Everett shout. She then sees Lee, Kenny, Mark, and 2 new guys. She immediately frowned.
'More mouths to feed.'
Carley and Katjaa help them move the barricade. She looks at her father, his face is a mask of fury as he stomps over to Lee.
'Just as pissed as I am.'
"WHO THE HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE?!" Larry demands as they all enter.
"Lee what the hell are you doing?!" Lilly shouts.
"Lee are you okay?" Clementine asks, rushing up to her protector with a look of concern on her face. He looks down at Clem and offers a small smile.
"I'm fine Sweet Pea." He replies.
Mark points David to the back of a truck. He puts the unconscious Travis there.
"Kenny are you ok?" Katjaa asks, looking at the pale face of Kenny.
"I'm fine hun, its just what happened back there was fucked." Kenny says, panting. That was a far run. They had to keep moving in case the walkers followed them.
"Lee answer me! Who the hell is this and why did you bring him here?!" Lilly shouts again, her ire directed at Lee. All other voices going silent as they listen in for an explanation.
"This is David. His student was stuck in a bear trap. We did our best to help but it was fucked. The trap had no release latch and we had to leave that boy behind to get eaten." Lee says, looking down sadly.
Katjaa had her hand over her mouth. Her eyes wide.
"What about that boy? Is he alright?" she gestures to Travis. Kenny answers her.
"Yeah hun, Mark only knocked him out." With that, she turns to the silent Mark, expecting an explanation.
"The kid was being irrational. He said he wanted Lee's axe to chop his friend's leg off to get him out of the trap. He tried to take it from Lee, I had to act before he got someone hurt." He says, a sad look on his face. The screams of that one kid was another nightmare he would have.
Katjaa accepted this.
Duck and Clementine look horrified after hearing that. The 2 kids did not like imagining someone being left to die.
"Dad are you ok?" Duck asks, his usual hyper nature was not found as he was concerned for his dad.
"Yeah son I'm fine." Kenny says panting.
Lilly felt a jolt of shock pass through her body, but she kept her glare.
Larry took this opportunity go get on Lee's case again.
"WHY SHOULD WE CARE?! THAT'S NOT OUR PROBLEM! YOU BROUGHT IN A COMPLETE STRANGER TO OUR HOME! JUST WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING LEE. HE COULD BE DANGEROUS YOU BASTARD!" Larry shouts, fuming at Lee.
"Dad calm down!" Lilly shouts, concerned for her father's health. She didn't want him so worked up because of his heart.
"Larry they had nothing but the clothes on their backs! Walkers were everywhere because of the other kid. We couldn't let him die!" Lee shouts back at Larry, getting mad also.
Before Larry replies, Kenny gets in his face.
"We aren't leaving no more live people to be dinner for the walkers! We have to stick together you old sack of shit!" Kenny shouts, angered at Larry. The two of them get into a rather loud shouting match.
Katjaa does her best to hold back Kenny before it turns into a fistfight.
Lilly glares at Lee. "Lee you know we don't have enough food for two more mouths to feed. What the hell were you thinking? You know we can't save every struggling survivor out there." she demands.
Lee sighs again.
"I know Lilly, it's just… Fuck Lilly, I couldn't leave him to die like that. Its bad enough I had to watch that girl kill herself." He says, lowering his axe to the side, remembering that girl that Glenn wanted to save.
She points her finger at his chest.
"You better know what you're doing with them. They are your responsibility." She says before storming off. She decides to not pressure him, but was still pissed. He dealt with enough, whatever happened in those woods had him scarred.
Carley stood at the side watching. She originally wanted to charge in at Lilly for wanting people to die and for being a bitch like usual. However she watched it all unfold. As a reporter she wanted the full story before asking questions.
She walks up to Lee and whispers.
"Meet me in my room later." She says before walking off. She would get the full tale from him later. Right now she knew he had a lot on his plate.
David was by his students side the whole time. However he watched all of the interactions. He could not believe how dysfunctional the group was.
Lee decides to approach him.
"Hey David, I just wanted to say despite the reception from the others, I'm glad to have you in the group." Lee says smiling. Meeting other survivors to fight against was always good in his eyes.
"Thanks Lee. I'm glad someone wants me here…" he says trailing off.
"While we are here. Tell me about the people that raided your camp."
