Disclaimer: So, if you have read other stories I am writing, I know this is probably becoming a bit clique by how many stories I wrote where Harry is not a Potter but I have a plan to keep exploring how that could change the story so I hope you enjoy it.
Disclaimer: rating for future options and kidnapping
Disclaimer: Also first few chapters will be short, but I hope I can improve that. If you recognize it, it is not mine
Harry's arrival with the Weasley family was a surprise for most except those who went to fetch him in the flying car but that did not mean he was any less welcome amongst them. It was quite an enjoyable visit as he was a very pleasant house guest.
The pleasantness of the visit took a strange turn when the younger kids were running about playing and Harry's shirt rode up slightly. It was much too big and got caught on a branch slowly revealing the skin on his back. It would have affected nothing at all if not for Percy seeing the dark markings on the skin. Percy just saw the edge of the black marking on his skin, almost like a birthmark. The marking was one he recognized, and it did not match what was known about the other boy. He knew the other person with the matching mark, well enough to recognize it. The Potter family, while extremely wealthy were not old enough to bare markings of magic.
Rare, very old families were marked by magic itself. The markings came from generations of family magics, and muggleborns children, never bore markings as far as he knew. It was why true old bloods, refused to bring muggleborns into there families, because they never had markings and the old family magic would die. And yet, there was no question to what he saw. The boy before him, bore the marking of an old family.
It was a puzzle and surprisingly, puzzles were something that Percy despised. It did not make any sense to him but at the very end of the day, he could not help but look further. He would never forgive himself if he did not solve this mystery. Yet asking to see a person's family mark, especially a child's was very very taboo. It was something semiprivate but with his mostly muggle upbringing, Percy hoped that the boy wouldn't think much on it.
Percy had to think quickly, so he convinced the twins to get Harry alone away from everyone else. If he was right, well doing this privately would be best. If he was wrong, it could be ignored completely but if he was right, everything would be changed. Harry followed the twins without hesitation as they got him to Percy. One thing Percy appreciated was neither brother asked questions once they saw how serious he was about it meaning they worked quickly. In the same breath, that was difficult as it left little time to plan.
"We got him here," Fred said confused as a nervous Potter looked between them.
"What's going on Percy?"
Percy licked his lips slightly before focusing, he was the responsible one. He could handle this. "Potter, what is the mark on your back."
The twelve-year old's eyes widened slightly. "n-nothing its nothing." It was clear he was nervous and not sure how to respond to the very sudden question though the twins did share a look confused.
"That was a lie," Percy said before cringing, he was obviously not being clear enough, but this was not what he expecting to do with his day. He had to do this right so as not to scare him. "I meant what's your family mark. I didn't think the Potters had one."
Now Harry looked very confused, "family mark?"
Percy raised his shirt revealing a flame. "Weasley family with a slight mix of the Prewet families mark. From mom and dad. I take after the Prewets magically. Most magical children from really old families have them. With some slight differences considering which families you are. I didn't know the Potters had one so I didn't think you would mind me seeing it."
Fred and George shared a look. Unlike Harry, they were not unaware of what their brother was asking. His mother was a muggleborn. He shouldn't have one. Muggleborns were blanks. Its why the old bloods disapproved of them. They were always blanks. It was something they had known as long as they had been alive. Not to mention, whether or not the Potters had one. As far as they remembered, they did not. Most wizards did not have a strong enough link to family magics to pass on."
"It's normal," Harry said perking up some realizing it was not another thing that made him a freak like the scar on his head did. "Other people have them. I...I was raised muggle. People were shocked to see it. I just said it was a birth mark."
"Old families have them," Percy said. "It just looked familiar to me. I didn't get a good look though. Maybe if it is not just the Potter one, we can see if you have family. I don't like what the twins say about yours." That was definitely not a lie. There were rumors but it was hard to believe. But then again, if his guess was correct, well that would put an entirely different spin on the rumors.
"Family," Harry whispered shocked wondering if he was understanding correctly.
"Yeah, if you've got a matching mark to someone, it means you are related in some way. It might be back a couple generations but maybe you have surviving family," Percy said. He left out that he knew that mark from somewhere. He'd not say something until he knew for sure.
At the hope for another family, Harry raised his shirt and revealed the very clear distinct mark. He also unknowingly showed that he had a number of scars on his skin, that no child should have. The mark was just exactly as Percy suspected it to be. Too distinct to be anything but the perfect match to th one he knew so well.
Percy took a breath; he had not known whether to hope to be right or wrong. "I know this mark, I think you do have family Harry," Percy said trying not to give too much away. "But it is a bit more complicated than that. We'll have to go to Gringotts to prove it for sure. It would be best if we sneak." The twin's eyes raised at the idea of there prefect older brother, sneaking or recommending that they break so many rules. Neither twins understood what was being revealed but they realized that Percy knew something they didn't.
"Why," Harry asked confused. Not sure if he was more excited over the idea of having family or just confused. He knew he was missing something but the idea of sneaking out, was uncomfortable. Especially as the Weasleys had been so nice to him since he arrived.
"Because no way mom will let us go," Percy said honestly. "Harry," This was one of the few times Percy used the boys first name. "Do you want a family?"
"More than anything," Harry admitted.
"I can promise you have one," Percy stated. "That mark proves it. But mom and dad won't take us to Gringotts. Its best if we just go. Sometimes…sometimes its better to ask for forgiveness rather then permission. They won't be that mad. It will be worth it."
"Who are you," Fred demanded. "And where is Percy?"
Percy knew what they were saying but he also knew he needed their help. He would swallow his pride; this was far too important to not break the rules for. "I will explain everything later, will you help me, Please Fred. Please George."
The twins shared a look and seemed to have a silent conversation before nodding. "Alright," Fred said. "Then you explain everything once it's done yes."
"I will," Percy promised as they began making a plan. Percy might hate rule breaking but the twins were the kings of it so it was clear that the plan would work.
