Chapter 1
SG-1 along with Dr. Janet Frasier stood on the bridge of Thor's ship, The O'Neill as they were in hot pursuit of Ba'al and his ship as the Goa'uld attempted to flee upon losing the battle.
Major Samantha Carter stood by Thor worried for Ba'al had in his position a Ancient artifact that SG-1 was attempting to secure when they were ambushed on the mission off world. She and Thor both knew the scientific applications of the device and how Ba'al would employ it as a weapon to escape. She read off the sensors, "I'm detecting a surge of energy coming from the mother ship."
Thor stated, "He is activating the device. I am attempting to close in."
Jack stated, "Why not open fire?"
Thor replied, "Any attempt would simply be magnified and reflected onto us. We must close the distance of the ships. We must follow through the warp event."
Sam reported, "Warp detected."
Thor stated, "We are in the warp event."
Jack stated, "When we get out of this warp thing…Open fire."
Thor replied, "I doubt that will be effective as Ba'al's ship is in a different area of the space time warp. Once we exit the warp will have to orient ourselves to the exit point on the timeline and attempt to pinpoint Ba'al exit from the timeline as well."
"Meaning?" Jack asked unsure.
Sam explained, "When get out of this warp the ship will be deposited at different times and space. Ba'al won't be in front of us anymore. We will have to find him."
Thor reported, "The warp field is diminishing. We are emerging from the warp now." The ship then came to a halt as they exited the trail of the space warp. Thor reported, "The ship has sustained heavy damage."
Sam added, "Ba'al is not on sensors. I will to calculate his exist once we get oriented."
Jack asked, "Oriented to where?" He glanced at Daniel, Teal'c and Janet for an answer.
"'When' would be the correct question." Thor informed. We rode the edge of a wave of warped space fabric. That will affect time."
Jack glanced at his team concerned. "So we just traveled…"
"Through time, Jack." Daniel understood. "Did we go forward or backwards?" He looked to Sam for an answer.
"Backwards." she informed. "If I'm measuring this dilation correct it looks about seventeen years into the past."
"That would make it 1985." Daniel quickly figured.
"What?" Jack asked. "Explain!"
Sam replied, "The device creates a warp field and when Ba'al entered hyperspace he activated the device which wrapped hyperspace around us. In doing so he created a wave of space fabric, like an ocean wave and he was on the other side of the wave. We were on the back side of the wave. As a result that wave pushed us back seventeen years. I don't know where Ba'al went yet. I have to calculate to find out how far that wave can push him back. I'm assuming he's gone back further than we have."
Thor added, "We will also have to calculate his position on star charts. The wave was heading towards the direction of Earth. It may hit your planet."
"And what happens if this space wave…thing…hits Earth?" Jack asked.
Thor admitted, "I do not know. It may have no affect on your world or it could cause major tectonic plate displacements."
Daniel stated, "It could cause major earthquakes, Jack."
Jack then asked, "How do we get back to our time?"
Thor explained, "I would need to duplicate the wave that Ba'al created and attempt to reverse what has occurred. I am unsure if that would be successful."
Janet Frasier stated, "So…we are all stuck on Thor's ship then. If we are seventeen years in the past there is no Star Gate Command to return to."
Teal'c realized, "Nor Free Jaffa. The Goa'uld will rule the galaxy without fear."
Thor added, "I cannot return to my home world for I am already there. I must avoid coming in contact with myself or altering the timeline."
Sam added, "We all have to avoid coming contact with our younger selves. I was a cadet in 1985."
"I was in college." Daniel recalled.
Jack stated, "In 1985...I was a Major."
"I was in med school." Janet added.
Teal'c agreed, "And I was under the rule of Apophis."
Sam figured, "Ba'al is heading towards Earth. We have to go after him. Thor will need to make repairs to the ship and we will need to locate Ba'al and the device and we don't have any military support."
Daniel suggested, "We will have to find George. He's the only one who can help us."
Jack nodded as he pondered, "Hammond would be a Colonel. He can help us out. He did it before."
Earth - 1985
Thor beamed SG-1 with Janet Frasier, who had come on the mission for medical advise, down to the surface and just outside George Hammond's house. The team found themselves standing on the front lawn of base provided home. They were still dressed in battle gear and armed. Jack took a deep breath and walked up to the front door and rang the bell. A woman answered it. She wore a red blouse with white shorts and had short curly blonde hair with blue eyes and sported red lipstick. She looked upon the armed men and women standing at her door. She grew concerned. "May I help you?"
"Is George home?" Jack asked as casually as possible.
"Just a minute." She closed the door.
The team stood wondering if perhaps she would call security instead but soon the door opened again and it was George Hammond wearing tan slacks and a white button down shirt. He had slightly more hair and was a bit thinner. His eyes settled on the face of a man he had not seen since 1969. "Colonel O'Neill." he gasped.
"Can we come in, George?" he asked fearing someone would see them and call the military police.
"Of course," he drew himself together and opened the door. He found a new face in the team as his eyes landed on Janet Frasier. He closed the door behind them as the team filtered into the home. He asked, "What's this all about, Colonel?"
Jack stated, "Well…a mission went…wrong…again…" He looked to Sam.
She stated, "We traveled seventeen years into the past while in pursuit of a enemy named Ba'al who is also on Earth and has possession of the alien device that sent us here. We need to find him and the device but we don't have a base of operations and it's just us."
"This way," he motioned for them to follow him to a spare bedroom. He opened the door and stated, "You can store your gear here for now."
"Thanks George." Jack gave a sigh of relief.
As they stored their equipment the woman who answered the door came to see what was going on. She spied Sam's face. "Sam Carter?" she asked.
Sam looked up, "Hi Mary."
She looked to her husband, "George, what is all this? Why is Jacob's daughter here dressed in fatigues and equipped for war?"
"It's classified." he told her. "And do not tell Jacob you saw her."
"But…" she stated a bit confused. "That's Sam but she's…a cadet…"
Sam stated, "If you see me, don't tell her you saw me either."
"What?" she asked baffled. "What is all this?"
Daniel suggested, "Maybe we should tell her? We will need all the help we can get."
"Tell me what?" Mary Hammond demanded to know.
Sam stepped forward and removed her helmet. She grasped Mary's hands, "I've known you and your family for a long time. It's me, it's Sam but I'm older. I'm from the future. I'm a Major now. Something happened. I can't go into the details but my team and I are trapped in 1985 and we need yours and George's help. Can you help us?"
"Of course." she agreed. "I just want to know what is going on. How did you get trapped?"
"I can't go into exactly what happened that brought us here. Just we need help. We don't have any command support right now." she told her.
"You are Jacob's daughter. You have support." she assured her. "Trapped? Like time travel? Like that movie, Back to the Future. I just saw it in the theater."
Jack stated, "Kind of like that but we don't have a Delorean." He then added, "Or any car for that matter…"
Mary asked, "And you are?"
George introduced her, "This Colonel O'Neill. I've helped him before."
"You are Air Force." she assumed.
He gave a nod, "Special Forces."
"Just tell us what you need." she stated.
Daniel bluntly replied, "A miracle."
George suggested, "I can pull some strings. You have to tell me everything though. I can let you spend the night here and I'll find a better suited place later."
Jack stated, "Might want to order a pizza and get some beer. It's gonna be long night."
Morning
Sam and Janet shared the spare bedroom while Jack, Teal'c and Daniel slept on the furniture. Jack woke up on the sofa the next morning. He still wore his battle dress but his gear and weapons had been stowed in the spare bedroom. He sniffed as the smell of bacon and coffee filled his nostrils. His mouth started to water. He sat up and looked towards the kitchen. He spied Mrs. Hammond making breakfast for her guest. He began to recall the night before and the beer which loosened them up a bit. He wondered if perhaps he told too much information when he mentioned Thor of the Asgard and ship hiding behind the moon.
Mary cheered, "Morning Colonel." She liked Jack. He was Air Force and she was a very patriotic woman who always supported the armed forces and it was soon clear to her that the team needed her help as well.
"Morning Mrs. Hammond." he replied.
"It's Mary." she insisted.
Daniel and Teal'c soon woke to the smell of breakfast as well. Daniel stated, "Something smells good."
Mary stated, "I brewed a pot of coffee, made you boys some bacon and I'm about to start the pancakes."
Daniel squinted, "Boys?" He looked to his friends.
Jack explained, "Officer's wife. We're the 'boys' as in men under his commend to her."
Mary asked while cooking, "Tell me, what is your rank Daniel? I didn't see anything on your uniform."
"I don't have a rank. I'm contract." he informed.
"As am I." Teal'c added.
"So the only officers are Colonel O'Neill, Major Frasier and Sammy?" she gathered. "No enlisted. Just contractors."
"Yes ma'am." Jack confirmed.
"Well," she figured. "You are still our boys. Out there, protecting us. We take care of our boys."
Daniel smiled, "Thank you Mrs. Hammond." He was glad he got a chance to meet her for she died before the program started. "What do you do when George is at work?"
"I'm an R.N." she informed. "I work for a local doctor."
"Janet's our medical doctor. She will be glad to have a hand." he suggested.
"Whatever help you need." she agreed as she started the pancakes.
George walked into the kitchen next wearing his uniform. He kissed her cheek, "Smells good, honey." He then grabbed a cup of coffee and looked out towards the living room with his guest. He told them, "I made a few phone calls this morning." He took his coffee cup with him into the living room and stood before the men. "I think we need to keep this as clandestine as possible. I don't want to involve the military if we don't have to."
Jack agreed, "We need to keep a low profile."
"Indeed," Hammond agreed. "So I called in some favors from some folks I know. I figure we will need air support and ground support to find this Ba'al and neutralize him."
Jack asked, "Air support? How we get air support without the military? We will need jet fighters, George. Ba'al has a ship. A big ship!"
"And you told me we have Thor and his ship behind the moon." he countered.
Daniel stated, "Thor needs to make repairs."
"Understand." he acknowledged. "There are a few clandestine programs going on right now that can be pulled in to help us." He then found Sam and Janet entering the room upon emerging from the bedroom. Both had on battle dress uniforms. "Majors," he greeted the women.
Sam smiled, "Mary is cooking." She mentioned, "She makes the best pancakes."
Janet sarcastically stated, "Just what my diet needs."
Daniel stated, "George was about to tell us about some clandestine programs that could help us."
All eyes fell on Hammond. "I placed a few calls. One to a man named Michael Coldsmith-Briggs the Third. He's CIA. His code name is 'Archangel'. He runs a clandestine attack helicopter program called Airwolf. I've provided refueling for his crew. I think they can help provide air support. I also made a call to a man named Devon Miles of the Phoenix Foundation. The Pentagon helped them develop an advanced computer system that is currently placed in a car that has been modified with military grade experimental equipment. The vehicle is called the Knight Industry Two Thousand. Now, due to the nature of who you are and where you are from some information will not be disclosed to them."
Jack gave a funny look, "A car and a chopper, George. That's our support?"
He replied, "The other option is to got to the military and start this program early and get the Gate out of storage."
"We can't do that." Sam stated. "We have to preserve the timeline as much as possible." She looked to Jack, "A little help is better than no help at all, sir. Plus, we do have Thor and his ship."
Mary asked as she cooked, "When do I get to meet Thor? I've never met an actual alien before."
Daniel smirked, "Actually you have."
She looked at him confused.
"Teal'c is not from Earth." he informed.
She gasped, "You are from another planet?"
"Indeed." he replied. "I am Jaffa."
"So, you guys can blend right in." she figured naively. "Can't Thor blend in too?"
Daniel shook his head, "Thor would stick out."
She asked plating up the pancakes before them, "What does Thor look like?"
He replied, "About three feet tall, grayish-brown and big eyes."
She paused, "The grays. The ones from project Blue Book."
Jack figured, "That would be Loki. He's a pain in the ass." He stood up and made his way to the table as breakfast was served. He had to admit is all looked so good. He took a seat, "This smells great." He grinned upon looking the meal over.
George bragged, "My wife is a heck of a cook, Colonel."
"I see that." he agreed pleased by the spread.
The group gathered at the table for breakfast.
Mary asked, "George, do you think maybe we should get our guest some clothes. Those uniforms make them stick out." She noticed the patch, "What is SG-1?"
Jack stated, "Star Gate One." He then added as he loaded up his plate, "George made it. He runs our program."
He smiled, "When I make General."
Mary stated, "I hope they let me see the Star Gate in the future."
No one could answer her request. They traded glanced knowing she would pass away of cancer three years prior. A uncomfortable silence fell over the table.
Janet decided to change the subject, "Sam's right. These are the best pancakes."
George grinned, "They certainly are."
