The Sword & The Fairy

Chapter 1

"I want you to deliver this to the mage that lives in the marble mage tower on the coast." The eccentric king ordered his godson, the fairy prince, Kuon or also known as the gallant knight, Ren.

Ren picked up the ornately decorated gold, bejeweled, and leather scabbard and drew the large delicate sword, by its dark hilt, from it. "A crystal sword?" He asked incredulously. "Could there be anything more useless?" He commented. "Is it for decoration?"

King Lory's eyes went wide at what he'd witnessed. No one had ever been able to remove the sword from its bindings, and now the sparkling clear crystal was turning black and clouding up. "What did you do to it?!" He exclaimed with worry.

Ren looked down at it in shock. "I didn't do anything!" He told him worriedly as he tried polishing it back to its former luster with his sleeve.

"Stop! It's turning red now!" Lory demanded. "Just sheath it and take it to the mage!"

"One, I am NOT useless! Two, don't you dare take me back to that ASS! And three, you sir… are a playboy! Touching and rubbing my body all over like that! How dare you?! If I could, I would give you a good slap!" An angry female voice called out indignantly in the room that only contained the King and the hidden fairy prince.

"Who's there? Who are you?" Kuon demanded, waving the sword around defensively.

Sigh… "Really? You have your hands all over me and you don't know who I am? You really are a playboy!" She groused. "Careful with waving me around like that or you might hurt someone." She warned.

Ren looked down at the sword in his hands in shock, nearly dropping it. "Y-You speak?"

"Mmhm." Her voice turned a little more cheerful, mainly because he stopped rubbing her blade with his sleeve and noticed her. "I can do other things too. Like cut through literally anything, turn living beings into ice statues when I feel like it, and when I'm angry I can release demons and create a void space." She touted proudly. She'd only been waiting to announce a little of what she was capable of doing. It had been so long since she'd been out of that stupid dark place.

Lory's brow furrowed. "When you're happy?"

"Hmph, none ya business. What do you want from me?" She complained.

"Okay~" Ren groaned a bit. How temperamental. "Why don't you want to go back to your owner?"

"Bah! That JACKASS was never my owner and never will be! If he thinks he can own this queen, he's got another thing coming!" She ranted.

"Queen?" Lory repeated. "Did you just say queen?"

"Ahhh…" She yawned. "So tired. Going to sleep now." She quickly announced, then went silent.

Ren furrowed his brow. How the hell is one supposed to awaken a stubborn, angry, enchanted, vorpal sword? "Hey! Hey! Wake up!… Tsk…" He looked up at Lory, whom was also at a loss for words.

"Go ahead and put her away. I think we should research this sword's origins." He sighed out, rubbing his temples. He could already feel the headache coming on.

Ren nodded in agreement. "We should probably also look into the mage that wants her. Especially if she's capable of performing all those things she was bragging about. He could be a danger."

"You should probably take her to Maria and see if she can figure anything out. She's always been good with magical items and breaking enchantments." Lory instructed.

"CHIRP… CHIRP… Soul-sucking bitch, soul-sucking bitch…" The cute little parrot sung loudly from its perch in the messy, lavishly decorated library.

A tawny, long-haired cat lazily swished its tail back and forth as it lay comfortably on a mahogany desk, napping while potions bubbled away in a cauldron off to the side, near an open window.

"Where the hell is she?" The young looking mage groused as he furrowed his brow once again and raked his fingers through his messy golden hair.

I'd tell you, but you turned me and Mimori into animals… So~ you're just on your own in this one. The cat thought to herself as she languidly glanced at him then covered her face with her fluffy tail. She and Mimori had been this way for years. From the very first day. The day when the pair had taken pity on the fairy queen and smuggled her out of the kingdom and away from Sho. That had been nearly 300 years ago. My how time flies when you're having fun. She thought sarcastically.Hmph, he still hasn't changed a bit. You would think that he would have stopped being such a selfish ass in that amount of time, but no~. That would be entirely too much to ask for. Aki thought to herself as she dozed off in the warm sun, once again. She had gotten used to it over the years. Being a cat wasn't too terribly bad. She couldn't speak for Mimori, but she was quite satisfied with her lot in life now. At least that jerk didn't expect anything of her now.

Mimori on the other hand, still blamed the beautiful fairy queen for her predicament. If her beautiful and talented mage hadn't been so obsessed with that woman, she wouldn't have helped him set up Queen Kyoko and she certainly wouldn't have helped Aki steal her and send her away to the gods only knew where. If she knew where she was and could actually carry on a conversation, she would have told him years ago everything she knew, but no~. He had to go and punish her by turning her into a parrot that could only repeat everything that he said. "Sho's the greatest Mage in existence. SQUAWK!" Ugh! She wanted so badly to scream then rip out her tongue! It was so frustrating! So not fair… She thought as she dodged the book he'd hurled at her.

"SHUT UP!" He bellowed. "I can't think with you carrying on like that!"

Mimori hunkered down, covered herself with her wings, and pouted. After 300 years, he still treated her the same way. When would it change?

He gingerly drew the enchanted crystal sword and gently placed in on the dais that was cushioned and covered in purple velvet. "We were hoping that you could study her and maybe get some useful information." He informed while keeping his eyes on the strange weapon.

The young witch glanced up at the hidden prince and nodded. "I'll do what I can, but I'm not really sure where to start looking. Where did you and Grandfather find it?" She asked, unaware that he meant for her to actually speak directly to the sword to get more information.

Ren sighed out a little frustrated. The sword had been 'asleep' for a few days. She had been very opinionated and vocal that first time, but after she said she was tired, he hadn't heard a single word from her since. "The king has had her in his possession for quite some time, but we just discovered that the Marble Mage has been looking for her, and well…" He sighed. "Well, she's adamant about not wanting to go to him."

Maria furrowed her brow. "Meaning? How would you know if it doesn't wish to go?"

He chuckled wryly. "It's… She is an enchanted vorpal sword. She told us herself. Very vocally I might add. I've never experienced anything like it. She'd even called herself 'This Queen'. I'm not really sure how accurate that may be, but we've decided not to send her to him in the off chance that there may be something to her aversion. We just need you to try and communicate with her and find out as much as you can about her and possibly the mage." He finished in a serious tone. He and Lory had decided to lay the sword out for Maria to try and communicate with, while he investigated the flamboyant mage on the coast.
