In the faraway region of Arcana, there is an anomaly with the moon that greatly enhances both the power and ferocity of Pokémon and trainer alike. One night, every fifteen years, the moon becomes the color of blood and has the potential to warp the minds of any found out of their homes after the sun sets into vicious killing machines. With it's impact dependent on the strength of the bond between Pokémon and their trainers, this could provide colossal ramifications for the otherwise peaceful realm. For untold centuries, the moment would come and though some would perish in the rampage of battle hungry trainers and the beings at their beck and call, Arcana remained at an uneasy peace during these troubling times.

Looking to find a remedy or even a vaccination for this affliction, Arcana's most renowned scientist Balthazar Aced joined forces with Arcana's Pokémon League Champion, James Kingston to search to the limit of their abilities to find a way to prevent another generation from living in fear of what they had coined as "The Crimson Fury". As another Crimson Moon loomed on the horizon, the two worked tirelessly and experimented vigorously to stave off more unnecessary deaths in Arcana. But as the two were on the verge of discovering a way to perhaps prevent the Crimson Fury from getting out of hand, they were deceived and betrayed by a being known only as The Grand Master, who plotted to use the Crimson Moon as a weaponized force to obliterate all life on earth by having humans and Pokémon destroy one another. James and Balthazar managed to drive this evil being away, but not before Balthazar succumbed to his injuries in battle and died along with most of their research.

James was left to hold the line for him and his deceased friend, but failed to protect Balthazar's ambitious son Elezar from falling under the influence of The Grand Master himself. Blaming James for his father's untimely demise, Elezar plotted with several colleagues of his own to murder the Pokémon League Champion and complete his father's research, though failing to realize that he too had been lied to about what Balthazar meant to do with his work and sought to weaponize it as The Grand Master had. Elezar and The Grand Master soon discovered a way of making someone permanently afflicted with the Crimson Fury and experimented with this on one of James's grandsons, Michael, in the hopes of using a Kingston to complete their goals. But Michael's will proved too strong for them to control and Michael eventually drove Elezar and his allies into hiding, taking up the mantle of Pokémon League Champion in the process.

Though Elezar retreated and his power base within Arcana was ruined, he once more began to work in the shadows with a consortium of the most wicked and ruthless people around the world. This organization called itself The Syndicate and plotted to undermine Michael's regime and bring about a new age of darkness with the coming of the next Crimson Moon. Some of those who had been recruited by Elezar included the cold-hearted poacher Hunter Bastion, the former Administrator of Team Magma known only as Courtney and even James and Balthazar's old friend and personal attorney, Claude Jacques, who bore a hidden agenda against the Kingston Family since the passing of his friends.

Michael's reign as Champion of Arcana was relatively peaceful, though he often clashed with his deeply conservative family over the politics of governing the realm and found his only comfort in his longtime best friend and girlfriend, Professor Julia Pines. Though he always strove to follow his grandfather's example, Michael was perhaps his harshest critic and often felt as if he were letting the people he cared for down. With a cure for his own Crimson Fury still a long way away from being viable, his constant struggle with giving into his anger often squared up against his desire to do good and forced him to rely heavily on the powers of the Mythical Pokémon Celebi, who had the gift of being able to quell his fury for a short time during the most stressful moments of his tenure. But the balm of Celebi could only do so much and Michael knew that unless someone were to rise and supplant him as Champion, he could never truly rest and recover from his trauma and struggles.

That time came a decade after his rise to power. Under the watchful eyes of the Champion and his beloved Professor, Michael's youngest cousins, twin boys named Ryan and Matthew Kingston, set off alongside their best friend Addison Tenton on their own Pokémon journey together. Addison was determined to become the next Queen of Arcana by winning the Arcana Pokémon Contests, following in the footsteps of Professor Julia's cousin Piper, while Ryan and Matthew both aspired to take part in the Pokémon League and become the next Champion. Their journeys would each take drastically different turns from the expected, as all three would be forced into the conflicts between the Syndicate and the Kingstons in their own ways and soon would be motivated by more than just their childhood dreams.

The Syndicate's fortunes changed significantly with the return to Arcana of The Grand Master, who resumed his plans to have the Crimson Fury to wipe out the decadence of mankind and the Pokémon who lived among them peacefully. Fearing for the fate of Arcana as well as that of her father, Jocelyn Aced would betray and ultimately defect from the Syndicate to aid in the Kingston's struggles to keep Arcana out of the hands of a would be tyrant. She would become an invaluable ally to Julia Pines and her assistants Amanda Fouritz and Piper Pines as they tried to lead the resistance against the Syndicate when they seemingly succeeded in eliminating Michael and his Elite Four from the equation and incapacitated them.

Ryan, Addison and Matthew are soon joined on their journey by their other childhood friend Holly Queensbury and her precocious brother Tommy, but soon find themselves at odds with each other. Jealous of his brother's successes in the Pokémon League and the budding feelings between Ryan and Addison, Matthew found himself sliding down a dark path that found him being taken under the wing of Elezar himself and betraying his family by joining in the ranks of the Syndicate as one of it's top Administrators. Ryan, meanwhile, soon found himself in the uncomfortable position of being the region's newest hero and struggled to remain optimistic as The Syndicate continually gained power. One by one, Ryan and his friends are abducted by the shadowy organization in the hopes of making them slaves to the will of the Crimson Fury as Michael had been dreamed of being. They would all have been fully indoctrinated into their ranks had it not been for the courage of Tommy Queensbury and the timely return of Michael Kingston. Though Holly and Ryan had been spared the full victimhood of being branded by the Syndicate, Addison did not fair so easily and was taken back to the Syndicate's fortress by Matthew as a prisoner.

On the slopes of the volcano called Mt. Heatmor, an immense battle takes place between the Syndicate and their enemies in the Kingston Family. Under the power of the Crimson Fury, Michael leads the family to utterly trounce the Syndicate Peons and their Administrators, but are left at the mercy of The Grand Master when Michael and Addison succumb to the Crimson Fury and turn on their loved ones. The Grand Master reveals himself to be none other than the genetical clone of the Mythical Pokémon Mew, known only as Mewtwo to those who had created him. The wicked Pokémon is on the verge of total and complete victory, when a noble sacrifice by Ryan managed to trick Mewtwo into branding him like Addison and Michael, only for Ryan to trap the powerful Pokémon inside a prototype Master Ball and defeat him. With Mewtwo's defeat and the scattering of the the Syndicate's Administrators, the Crimson Moon was allowed to come and go with no one else made victims of it's power. Though many of the Administrators had been apprehended, Matthew and Claude managed to escape separately into exile, with the former being taken under the wing of Jocelyn to try and find his place in the world. Those who had been branded by the Syndicate were healed by the ingenuity of Professor Krane of the Orre Region and loved ones were reunited as Michael and Julia finally wed one another and Ryan and Addison officially became a couple.

Michael announced that the coming Pokémon League Championships would be his last, regardless of the outcome. Therefore, a grand celebration was proclaimed throughout the region and the legacy of Michael would be appreciated warmly in one final tournament where a new trainer would be crowned Champion regardless of who won the tournament. In a thrilling showdown unlike any the world had seen, Ryan ultimately clashed with Michael in the Title Match that ended in Ryan's Jolteon outlasted his cousin's Dragonite and donned him the new Pokémon League Champion. With his new role in Arcana secured, Ryan saw off his cousin and his pregnant wife as they set sail for the Kalos Region and the next chapter of their lives, eager to see what the future had for him and Addison there in Arcana.

But evil is nothing if not patient. And the loyal followers of Mewtwo are still lying in wait for their chance to enact the next plot their master is scheming. And if they manage to pull it off, all of Arcana and it's sons and daughters will never be the same again...
