Chapter 1: A Child's Faith
Forty-three-year-old Noah Puckerman was laying in a hospital bed in a coma for over a month and the only person that came to see him wasn't even related to him by blood. Liza Marie Anderson would ride the school bus to the hospital five days a week and read from Hulk comic books or tell him about her day. Before one of her dads would come to get her and tell her that Noah didn't even know she was there. Noah's girlfriend Quinn Fabray only came by once the first week. In fact, all of Noah's friends only saw him that first week and Liza Marie's dads only came to get her when visiting hours were over. Liza Marie's Grandpa Burt would even stop by Noah's room with his wife Carole when they came down from Washington to see Kurt and Blaine.
On Noah's birthday, Liza Marie came to his room with a cupcake and said, "Uncle Nono, please wake up and show everyone you are still in there!" As she says this a nurse comes in and checks his I.V. before Liza Marie hears the nurse say, "Mr. Puckerman? Do you know where you are?" Then Liza Marie hears Noah say, "The hospital in Lima, Ohio." Then Liza Marie asks, "Do you know who I am?" As she looks into Noah's eyes and sees him smile before he says, "Liza Marie Anderson my niece and the only person besides your Dada Kurt's parents that gives a shit about me." Then Liza Marie hears Burt say, "Quinn, I just wanted you to know Puck is awake."
When Noah was allowed to go home, Burt came and got him. Taking him to his own home where Noah breaks down after seeing Liza Marie and Carole waiting on the porch. His home was made handicap accessible thanks to Burt and his buddies at his shop. Noah was shot in the back by his deadbeat dad and was paralyzed from the waist down. The only thing he still had feeling in below the waist was Puckzilla. But who would fuck a guy in a wheelchair? Obviously, Quinn wouldn't, and as Noah sees Tina and Artie coming out of his house. He says, "Tina, I heard that you are just as pissed off at Quinn as I am."
Before Tina replies, Artie says, "Sorry we didn't come to see you more, man. I got an infection shortly after that and it cleared up last week. Then we helped Mr. H. with your house and I made sure that you could move your wheelchair around your house without hitting anything." Then Artie looks at Burt before saying, "If you need to vent about anything just text or call me or Tina anytime, man." Then he fist-bumps Noah before leaving with Tina.
That night when Noah was alone, he gets a text from Liza Marie saying, "Uncle Nono, Auntie Queenie will come around someday. Ha, me and Auntie Tana have yelled at her since you woke up. Even Dada and G' Pa Burt yelled at her. Ha, G' Pa Burt yelled at all your friends and had to remind Dada about the times they were in a deep sleep. Aunt Sarah says her mean boyfriend won't let her come see you. Dada and Papa have tried to get her to leave him but she won't. Well, GTG goodnight."
