Commiserations

Maybe this time, life will fall on the side of the dirty mistresses.

"What's wrong with you," says Mark, as he sits down next to Meredith at the bar.

"My mommy's a filthy whore, and I just saw my father for the first time in twenty years. And it didn't go well," says Meredith. "You?"

"Double scotch, single malt," Mark nods at the bartender. "I had a relationship with Addison. After Derek left, when we were in New York. And she hasn't told him," says Mark.

"Yeah, well, what did you do to mess that up?" Meredith accuses.

"I ah, I might have slept with a nurse when she thought we were together," says Mark.

"See, karma," says Meredith.

"Are you waiting for Derek?" says Mark.

"And you're waiting for Addison?" says Meredith, not answering Mark's question.

"Yes, I'm waiting for Addison. See, maybe this time, life will fall on the side of the dirty mistresses," says Mark.

"She won't show, you know. He's not a guy you leave if you can help it," Meredith frowns.

"So, what happens with your father huh?" says Mark.

"You really want to talk to me about my daddy issues?" Meredith sighs. "And stop grinning. That was not sexual, that's just weird Mark," says Meredith.

"My parents weren't really around much when I was a kid," says Mark. "If they were having affairs then I wouldn't know."

"My father abandoned me. I have abandonment issues," says Meredith.

"That's why you're taking it so hard that he's not showing up, huh," says Mark.

"Something like that," Meredith sighs.

"You're still in love with her?" Meredith asks Mark.

"And you're still in love with him?" Mark questions.

"If I were, my life would be a whole lot simpler," Meredith sighs.

"So what's really going on then?" asks Mark.

"I'm a filthy-er whore than my mother," says Meredith. "Lusting over a married man was bad enough. And then his wife shows up here, all leggy and fabulous, and I can't think when I'm around her," says Meredith. "She's just got this charm, y'know? And she's raising my dog," says Meredith.

"So you're in love with her," Mark smirks at her.

"Stop grinning like that. This is not good news for you, you know," says Meredith.

"And why not? Come on? Girl on girl, that's always good news," Mark smiles. "Never knew you had it in you. I like you already," Mark pats her on the shoulder.

"Stop that," says Meredith. "She's not gonna show anyway," says Meredith.

"You don't think she'll show up? What, for you? She might," says Meredith.

"I gave her my dog. That was my grand gesture. A dog, and that was partially selfish because my roommates were sick of him. And she hasn't noticed me. I almost blew up like four days ago. I had my hand on a bomb. And she hasn't said anything to me about it!" Meredith grumbles.

"She likes dogs," Mark smiles.

"What was she like, in New York?" Meredith asks him, and Mark tells her some stories, and Meredith listens intently.

"She was pretty much the same as now," says Mark. "Gentle. Elegant. She had a practice there, it was pretty badass," says Mark.

"She's pretty badass here," says Meredith. "She delivered Bailey's baby during the hospital bomb thing. That's pretty badass."

"Do you worry that Derek will hate you, if you date her?" Mark asks her out of the blue.

"Do you?" Meredith asks Mark.

"He already does," Mark shrugs.

"You're his best friend. He can get over it," says Meredith.

"He still loves you, you know," says Mark.

"I know," says Meredith. "So does George. That's why I'm here, because he keeps trying to tell me, and I'm avoiding it," she adds.

"Meredith Grey, the lusty intern that every man in Seattle is in love with," Mark teases.

"Not true. Alex isn't," says Meredith.

"Okay, but at least two," says Mark.

And that's when the bells chime, and the door opens.

"Hi-" says Addison to Joe, as he takes her order.

"Addison!" Meredith gasps, half in shock.

"Well well well," says Mark, as he motions for her to join them.

"What are we drinking?" says Addison.

"We're celebrating our repressed tendencies to want to drown ourselves in you," Mark raises his glass to you.

"Mark!" says Meredith. "I told you that in confidence," Meredith buries her face in her hands.

"Sorry Grey," says Mark. "You never mentioned that part."

"I must have forgotten," Meredith groans.

"I see," says Addison, as she takes a sip of her drink.

"And what are you doing here?" says Mark.

"Yeah, I was convinced you wouldn't show," says Meredith.

"Well, I was sorting some things out with Derek," says Addison. "Such as, where he'll be parking his trailer, ergo in Central Park in New York, which I think will make a horrendous eyesore, and how he's going to leave me some money to build an actual house in New York on his land, so that I can stop this permanent camping trip, and how we're going to do a time-share in the Hampton's, and oh yes, Mark…" says Addison.

"Yes," Mark's eyes light up when Addison mentions him.

"You left your bike there. In the Hampton's. You can come by to get it sometime," says Addison.

"That's it!?" says Mark.

"Why, was there something else?" says Addison. "Oh right, your futon couch. You can have that too," says Addison.

"Am I missing something here," says Meredith.

"They're getting a divorce," says Mark.

"We are," says Addison. "I thought you'd like to know," Addison shrugs.

"Thanks," Meredith sighs into her glass.

"Derek said you should call," Addison says with a slightly worried look on her face.

"Not gonna happen," says Meredith.

"Oh?" says Addison.

"My mommy's a filthy whore, and I'm even filthier and whore-ier than she is. Because I fell in love with not one, but two of the married Attendings, and I've moved on from the first one, to the second one, and my father left me when I was five and I think he was drunk when I just saw him so I'm brooding in a bar. Yeah, that's that," says Meredith.

"She likes you," says Mark.

Addison nods as if to say 'thank you,' for the translation.

"I don't know about my mother, but my father wasn't a saint either. I made him drinks when I was eight years old, and I waited outside his office while he was with his secretaries and kept quiet while he bribed me with ice cream," says Addison. "We have more in common than you might think," she smiles.

"Look at that, we do have a lot in common," Meredith waves her drink around, as if in celebration.

"Derek's moving back to New York. He said you could come with him and start up the practice again," Addison offers to Mark.

"He's forgiven me?" says Mark, skeptical.

"He says he's going to need a friend after what I'm about to do tonight," says Addison.

"What are you going to do tonight?" Mark asks her.

"I'm going to kiss his precious Meredith," says Addison. "Because she likes me, and I like her too," Addison smiles, and brushes Meredith's hair from her face. "Can I do that?" she asks Meredith gently.

"Uh-huh," says Meredith, half in a daze.

Addison leans in and holds Meredith's waist as she leans in, and Meredith grasps Addison's shoulders as she parts her lips for the redhead.

They kiss long and slow with their eyes closed and their bodies melting together until Mark groans, and says something like "awesome."

"Go home, Mark," says Addison, growling at him.

"Okay, I might have lost here, but I kinda won the lottery," Mark smirks.

"Go home Mark," Meredith grumbles. "This isn't for you. She's mine now," Meredith grips Addison's shoulders possessively.

"Ooh, you're feisty? You know, if you two ever wanna-" Mark gestures between the two of them and himself and winks at both of them before Meredith's fist collides with the scar in Mark's face.

"Not gonna happen," says Meredith, as Mark recovers from being punched to the ground for the second time in one day.

"I'm going, I'm going," Mark grumbles, as he holds his face with his hand.

"That was really hot," says Addison, as she kisses Meredith.

"Yeah?" Meredith smiles, as she kisses Addison back again.

"Yeah," says Addison, as she lifts her up into her lap, flipping them.

"I'm gonna take you home," Meredith whispers into Addison's ear, as she signals to Joe to call them a cab.

"Okay," says Addison, grinning.

When they get there, Alex is up in Izzie's room, and George is standing outside of Meredith's room, only to find out that Meredith had been gone this whole time.

"Shh- we don't want to wake up the others," says Meredith, as she leads Addison to the staircase.

"It's a bit late for that," George deadpans, as his eyes widen when he sees Dr. Montgomery in the hallway.

"Go back to bed George," Meredith whispers, as she leads Addison into her room.

"Wha- okay. I was going to talk to you about something, but you're busy, so I guess I'll tell you probably never-" says George, as Meredith and Addison close the door behind them.

"Dude, what's up," says Alex, as he comes out of Izzie's room to get some water.

"Did you know Meredith was a lesbian!?" says George, as he points to Meredith's room.

"What?" says Alex.

"Did you know Meredith was a lesbian?" says George to Izzie, as he also comes out of her room to get some water.

"What?" says Izzie.

"She just came home. With Dr. Montgomery. And now they're both in Meredith's room, and was that- Meredith slamming our boss against the door so help me," George runs into his room and slams his own door behind him.

"Guess she isn't doing McDreamy anymore," says Alex.

"You just called him McDreamy again," Izzie teases.

"Shut up," says Alex, as he gets some water and they both go back into Izzie's room again.

"So he's really leaving?" says Meredith, as she kisses Addison fervently.

"He's really leaving," says Addison.

"And you're staying," says Meredith, as she kisses Addison's neck.

"And I'm staying," Addison smiles, as she kisses Meredith's ear.

"Does this mean I get my dog back?" says Meredith, as she kisses Addison's temple.

"Yes, this means you get your dog back," Addison laughs, as she carries Meredith to her bed.

"Great," says Meredith. "I missed Doc," she says, as she lies on top of Addison, and they make out like teenagers until Meredith shuts the lights out, and they cuddle up together.

"He misses you too," says Addison, as she falls asleep with Meredith on her chest. "We'll pick him up in the morning."
