Whoosh… Thunk! Another arrow hit its mark, but Snow already knew that. In fact, she had already placed another arrow into the quiver and fired it away at another nearby tree. It helped her forget, just for a little bit on what she did to Regina's mother. A pang of regret twitched at her one more time before she fired another shot, trying to remember why she did it in the first place.
Her vision changed as she remembered the look on Regina's face, how crumpled up it was, how she cried over her mother as Cora said she loved her. The look of pure hatred as she turned her attention to Snow White as her heart fell from her chest and went into hell itself. It broke her to even think that she stooped down to that level to stop Cora. If she had only listened to her good instincts, then maybe Cora and Regina would've been on a path to good right now.
Something moved out of the corner of her eye, making Snow turn slightly and fired off a warning shot in the distance. She flinched when she heard her arrow connect with something and prayed that it wasn't a living being. She took off her earplugs and slowly moved forward to the sound.
Her eyebrows knit together in confusion as she thought this was the location where she saw her arrow go. Her eyes lifted as she noticed a rusty trailer up ahead, she glanced to the ground and noticed footprints do lead back to the tin-made building.
Snow slowly made her way up to the trailer and went inside, heart hammering out of her chest.
"Anyone in here?" she announced.
"Just me" came a voice.
Snow gasped as she let out, "August"
August slowly walked out from the small room, a human-sized wooden puppet. Snow's mouth dropped as she took in the young man as her eyes dropped to the arrow still in his leg. She flinched to herself but noticed that it didn't seem to bother him at all. To prove it, August leaned down and snapped the arrow out of his leg and shrugged. This seemed to have broken Snow White's trance as she blinked and shook her head.
"But the Curse broke-"
"Not for me" August explained, "When it lifted, I could move again. But I stayed like this, this is my own punishment. Not the Queen's, I did this to myself"
"August, I'm so sorry" Snow White took a step toward him, "But you don't have to hide, there are people in Storybrooke who care about you; Emma, your father, Dawn…"
"How is he?" August quickly asked, "My papa?"
Snow hesitated before she said, "He misses you"
"I know, but I can't let him see me like this or Dawn…" Pinocchio mumbled, "I made her so angry the last time we spoke, I've been trying to find her to apologize but, I ruined our friendship"
"August…"
"She was trying to convince me to come back into town, to see papa, but I was too stubborn" August sighed, "And I think I just lost the only friend I ever had"
"August" Snow White said more firmly, "I think you should sit down"
He looked up to Snow who only gave a small nod to do what she said. Pinocchio looked to her in confusion but slowly sank down to the bench as Snow sat down with him but didn't speak right away. She bit her lip as she wondered how she should start out but couldn't find the words to say. Snow sighed as she turned and placed a hand on Pinocchio's leg, not caring if it was wood or flesh.
"August…" Snow started, "Something happened to Dawn-"
"Is she okay?" Pinocchio asked, "What happened?"
"A couple of nights ago, Marco came to our apartment saying someone was attacking this home" Snow hesitated, "By the time we got there, the house was covered in vines and almost flooded but Dawn wasn't in there"
"What do you mean?" August asked as he feared the worst.
"I mean, Dawn's been missing since the night of the attack" Snow White finished, "That was two nights ago"
"Two nights ago?" August sank back in his chair, "Two nights ago? And no one's seen her since?"
Snow White shook her head, "I'm afraid not"
This crushed August's heart as he remembered the young youthful girl with the wide smile and bright laugh whenever he told her a joke without even trying. He remembered the little nymph who was his childhood friend as she lifted him up in the sky and they would pretend he was a hero who could fly. And now, it seemed like it set in that she was missing, in danger and all he was doing was sitting in a trailer.
"Have there been any leads?" August asked, "What was she doing that caused attention?"
"Honestly, she was only trying to look for you" Snow White said, "Please come back, you're the only one who knows how to find her, we could really use your help"
August hesitated before he said, "I'm sorry, I just can't"
"August…" Snow White blinked, "Your best friend is missing, we have no idea who would do that. In fact, we don't even know who is strong enough to contain a Lady Nymph-"
"Have you tried Mr. Gold?" August asked, "He's Rumplestiltskin"
"Yes, I know, and we've considered that but he's actually helping us trying to find her" Snow shrugged, "In a way"
"What?"
"You see" Snow straightened up, "Henry's father is back, but it turns out, he's also Rumplestiltskin's son-"
"Neal's back?" August asked.
"Wait, you know him?" Snow asked.
"Yes, I told him the Curse was broken" August said, "He came back for Emma?"
"Not exactly" Snow stated, "But Rumplestiltskin is trying to show that he's a changed man by helping us find Dawn but it's not going well… come back into town with me, August, I know you'll be able to help us find her"
August shook his head as he stiffly got up from the bench and walked away from the woman. Even with his friend in danger, he couldn't bear to face the town knowing his failure was written all over his body.
"I'm sorry, I wish I could be more of a help to you" August apologized. "But do me a favor and don't tell anyone you saw me here"
"August" Snow White started.
"Please" August turned around and faced the woman, "Just go… I wish you all the luck in the world on finding Dawn, I truly do, but you're going to have to leave me out of it"
Snow White sighed and she said, "As you wish"
