A/N: I do not own anything you recognize.
Warning: so, this has Leon Trotsky and Soviet bashing, but bear in mind that not only is it fiction, it's also said through the point of view of our protagonist – a Romanov loyalist. Also, this is fiction, so keep that in mind when I mess with the timeline, or anything else.
Alyssaendra Romanovna Targaryen was twelve when she held her little sister for the first time.
Visenya Romanovna Targaryen was born on the 25th of December, earning her the nickname "Natalia" amongst her family; at that time, the Targaryens were being hunted down by the Soviets for being proud Romanov loyalists, so they were in hiding.
Unfortunately, word of her birth reached Leon Trotsky, who seized the opportunity of the whole Targaryen family being together due to the birth of a new member, and sent his assassins after them; much to Trotsky's chagrin, two survived: Alyssaendra Targaryen followed her father's instruction, and ran through a secret passage with her newborn sister, Visenya Targaryen.
For six years, the two of them ran and ran, away from the revolutionists and away from Moscow; the elder sister, Alya, remembered her family fondly, and recounted their stories to little Senya.
They ran, they stole, but everything was alright at the very least – they had each other, and that was all that mattered.
Everything was fine, that is, until dawn broke on the 15th of November.
Visenya knows nothing but running and hiding, because the bad men are after them, because they want to hurt her and Alya. But Alya promises that they will never get them as long as she is alive.
As long as she is alive, her sister says, and Senya isn't as naive to believe that Alya will live forever. Just two weeks ago, the bad men had noticed them, and thrown a dagger in their direction: Alya stood shield in front of Senya, and nearly died, but thankfully recovered from her wounds.
That does she knows her sister will die someday, be it when she is old and grey, or when she is too young (as most adults call them), does not, in any way, change her grief and rage when she sees Alya take a gunshot for her.
This is your fault, Senya, she tells herself; if only I'd been more careful and cautious! Visenya laments.
But that does not bring Alya back to life. What she can do, however, is honour her sister's last wish.
The bad men have gone because they think Senya died by the impact of being thrown into a vegetable stand (she is stronger than that) and Alya died taking that gunshot. They are not completely wrong – Alya is dying.
"Visenya," her sister halts and coughs up blood, "Senya, promise me you will live. Promise me you will do whatever it takes to survive. Deceive, lie, run, hide, it matters not. Promise me you'll do whatever it takes survive and live your life."
Senya goes to say something along the lines of denying that Alya will die – Alya has to live, if only because she is the only family Senya knows, the sister who is more her mother than the woman who gave birth to them.
"Don't fool yourself with pretty words. I am about to die, I know it. Now, first," more blood, "When you are able, go to Stark: their head of house, if possible.. Go to them, our family, our kin, and I promise you'll get safety."
Senya nods, soaking in all the information.
"Promise me, Natalia." Alya slips into the form of affection that she has rarely used, and Senya knows it is too painful... too painful to think of the day every Targaryen save the two of them was killed.
"I promise."
And she has, she has honoured her sister's wish. She is alive, albeit living in more disgrace than she can stomach to think. Trotsky found out she lives, and has put a bounty on her head – her, a seven-year-old! As if they could sink no lower.
These days, she wears a hood, and calls herself "Natalia Alyanovna Romanova" in honour of her father and sister. Perhaps even her mother, as the woman had wanted to name her "Natalya" instead of "Visenya". Then, she runs into a shop with some kind of colours, and quickly changes her silver-gold hair to a vibrant red; her eyes are still a problem, though, as there is no one in all Russia with dark indigo eyes save a Targaryen.
Still, staying either fully under the sun, or in the protection of shades, she passes of her indigo as blue, and the idiots are none the wiser. It takes her two months to be caught, but even then, she is just Natalia Alyanovna Romanova, just another street urchin.
If only they knew... she thinks to herself.
They bring her to the Red Room, they tell her she is to serve the Motherland, Mother Russia, and they lie that she will have a family with them. Natalia knows the depth of their lies, of their treachery.
Black Widow, they say, the deadliest assassin in the entire world.
I am a dragon, she chants herself to sleep in the night, as they cuff her to the bed, I can last through anything.
A dragon is not a slave, she repeats in her head, as they treat her like one.
But, in the dead of the night, she sometimes wonders if her father would be sneering at her, the way she is behaving so docile (dragons are not meant to be tamed), if her mother will snarl at her, stop being an obedient dog for them! Then there is Alya: would she be ashamed at what her Senya was doing, or would she be crying at the fate of her little sister?
Would her family loathe her?
Would they weep for her?
Or would they be proud at how she was playing them?
Some people are just fiddles, Alya had murmured to herself after she'd gotten someone to hide them, find the right strings, and you're the newest puppeteer. A saying from their grandmother, she knows.
But then, her sister's words ring into Natalia's ears: promise me you'll do whatever it takes to survive and live your life. "Whatever it takes" were her elder sister's exact words.
Natalia is never one to break her promises.
The archer from America is the one they send to take her down, Hawkeye is what his codename is apparently. Clint Barton, is how he introduces himself to her.
"I'll join you."
He's shocked. Obviously, he expects her to attack him, to say her loyalty is to the Red Room, to the KGB. As if.
The only person who has ever had her loyalty is Alyssaendra Targaryen.
"They treat me as nothing more than a slave. A dog to do their bidding. I am no slave." She further explains, so as to make her choice sound convincing.
They are called SHIELD.
It is all black; personally, as much as Natalia likes black, it is only when they add red. Red and black together are perfect after all.
"You will need to change your name." The Director suggests, for Natalia Romanova will always come hand in hand with Red Room, KGB.
She has no problem. Natalia was just a mask, only a disguise. For a moment, she wonders if she can go back to Visenya Targaryen.
It is tempting, but foolish. She chides her heart; all the Soviets will be after you.
Natasha Alianovna Romanoff is created.
She is in America; she should search for a Stark, for protection, for safety.
Starks are kin. That is a lesson drilled into her head since she was a mere babe, Starks are our family.
It holds true – Anthony Edward Stark is from the line of Eddard Stark through Robb Stark, while she is of the line of Lyanna Stark through Alyanna Snow/Visenya Targaryen, but both claim descent from Rickard Stark.
But she is now part of SHIELD. They need to think they have her loyalty, to believe she considers them her "saviours"; but the only ones of them who have a whit of her respect and liking are Clint Barton and Phil Coulson.
She works for SHIELD, she spies for them, she deceives for them and she lies for them, but her loyalty to her sister is the only loyalty she has.
Then Lord Stark decides to become Iron Man.
And her world is turned upside down.
Suddenly, she receives the news that someone tried to kill him. A lot of people say her demeanour that day is reminiscent to an angry fire-breathing dragon, and she chuckles to herself, how right you are. Stark is family, and no one hurts her family.
After that, Fury decides to give her a mission – deceive Tony Stark and find out about his qualification for the Avengers Initiative. Clearly, no one has told him of the Obadiah Stane Incident, and how she absolutely abhors the idea of hurting Lord Stark.
Stark is dying, Fury had explained, the palladium in his Arc Reactor is poisoning him.
She hurries into the office of her cousin, heart thumping loudly in her chest.
Miss Potts is talking to Tony Stark, and then she defeats Sir Happy Hogan in the fighting rink. It is really not that difficult.
She looks at the last Stark in the eye and says, "Winter is Coming, Your Grace."
Miss Potts blinks, and Sir Hogan cocks his head to the side, but Stark replies with a quirk of his lips, "With Fire and Blood, My Lady?"
"Of course." Her melodious voice resonates around the room.
Stark claps his hands and announces, "She's hired!"
The next two years pass by normally, well, as normal as someone in a spy agency can have.
Then Loki crashes down, and disrupts peace. She is there, she grieves for Phil, she helps Clint, and she fights the wayward god alongside her cousin.
After that, everything in her life can be classified as "downright crazy". Honestly, turning into fugitives, seeing two dead men come back to life, living around Wanda Maximoff on a daily basis (her magic is awe-inspiring), fighting a war for six stones...
When she is atop Aegarax, her personally hatched dragon, she decides that Thanos needs a taste of death by dragonfire. Tony, it seems, has read her mind, as he smirks and tells her, "Come back alive." However, the worry in his eyes is anything but joking.
"I promise."
Because, whether she is Natalia Alyanovna Romanova, Natasha Alianovna Romanoff, or Visenya Romanovna Targaryen, she always keeps her promises.
A/N: That was the end of our little one-shot! This just came into my mind this morning, and was chewing at me, so here you are! Tell me what you feel about Targaryen!Natasha, with a whiff of Natasha/Tony family relation.
