Despite how exhausted and in pain he's in, Albert finds a burst of adrenaline when his brother stops outside the window with a baby in his arms. He grins at Chimney and his niece, thrilled she's finally here. "She's beautiful," he mouths.
"Thank you," Chimney responds. He can't wait until both of them are home so he can take care of his whole family but Albert's recovery is going to take a while. The baby coos, and it's been such a whirlwind of a day that he nearly starts crying again. He needs to get himself under control but it's not happening.
He stays, cuddling his daughter, until Albert falls back asleep, and then heads back up to Maddie. "Albert okay?" she questions.
He nods and has to hand the baby back over so he can sit down and fall apart without worrying about his newborn. Maddie returns the baby to her bassinet and squeezes his hand, willing to ride out the breakdown together and hugs him. Her heart breaks for the man in front of her, who's experienced the full spectrum of emotions in a very brief period of time.
Hopefully all of them will be home together soon.
