Note: Dammit, why must new story ideas pop into my head when I'm trying to focus on my current ones? Anyway, here's a little matchup between two strong yet impulsive spiky-haired redheads who are the best friends of blonde RPG protagonists, and yes, this is based on Hyper Gauge's One Minute Melee. Tbh I don't know if I'll do more of these, I just really wanted to see these two hotheads throw hands.

One Minute Melee

Reyn vs. Garet

(Smash Manor)

It was a typical day at the Smash Manor, the place where the famous Super Smash Bros. tournament was held and home to the Smashers, Assist Trophies, and any other extra characters I decided to include just for the hell of it. Anyway, it was just a regular day with the Smashers having their battles, the Assists helping them out every now and then, and everyone else spectating or socializing in the many rooms of the mansion.

Once the clock struck noon, it was lunchtime, and the residents gathered in the dining hall to eat and talk about their day.

After grabbing himself some lunch, a certain Venus Adept by the name of Isaac sat down at a table with his dear friend Garet, who seemed to be in a pretty bitter mood as he was picking at his food. "Hey, what's with the long face?"

"Huh? Hmph, it's nothing." Garet muttered, trying to brush it off.

"Come on, man, when you pick at your food like that, then there's something wrong, so why are you so bitter?"

Garet sighed. "Fine, you wanna know why I'm so bitter? It's because of that guy." He pointed to a nearby table where a familiar Homs was sitting at.

"Who, Shulk?" Isaac asked, wondering why his friend would have beef with Shulk of all people.

"No, not him, the other guy." Garet replied, gesturing to the redhead who sat with Shulk.

"Oh. What do you have against him?"

"Everything! While you guys were having your fights, he walks over and tells me to suck an egg!" Garet huffed. "That Reyn guy, he thinks he's so much better than me. Well, I'll show him who's the better man."

Meanwhile, the two Homs were chatting with each other, and it seemed they were having the same conversation the Adepts were having.

"What do you have against him?" Shulk asked his friend.

"Everything! While you guys were having your fights, he walks over and tells me to suck an egg!" Reyn huffed. "That Garet guy, he thinks he's so much better than me. Well, I'll show him who's the better man."

At the same time, both redheads stood up and walked forward, everyone turning their heads as the two confronted each other. It had become dead silent as the they stared the other down.

"Hey." Garet finally greeted.

"Hey." Reyn greeted back. More silence. It was starting to get awkward now as they just kept staring at each other.

"Come on, are you guys gonna fight or what?!" someone asked, and soon nearly everyone in the room began to chant, "Fight".

That gave Garet an idea. "Yeah, a fight. Let's have a little sparing match to see who's better."

Reyn flashed him a grin. "You're on."

And so the two headed outside to the front of the mansion to have their little brawl, and a crowd gathered to watch, including their companions Isaac and Shulk.

"Alright, let's get this party started." Garet said, unsheathing his long sword. "And just so you know, I won't hold anything back."

"Yeah, and neither will I." Reyn replied, wielding his gunlance.

The two held their trusty weapons and took battle stances against each other. The tension brewing between them was so thick you cut right through it.

TIME TO TURN UP THE HEAT!

FIGHT!

60...

Naturally, the two hotheads decided to start things off by charging at each other with a war cry before lunging forward and swinging their weapons, both blades clashing and making sparks fly. They stared dead into each other's eyes as they tried to outdo the other and soon broke away with not a scratch on either of them.

"Not bad, but you're gonna have to try much harder than that." Reyn said.

Garet grinned. "I was just getting warmed up. Inferno!"

50...

With that shout, the Adept raised his hand to the air and several large fireballs formed in the sky above him and rained down on the battlefield, with Reyn constantly on the move to try and dodge them. Through some miracle, he managed to avoid most of them, but wasn't so lucky with the last one as it scored a perfect hit, creating a big explosion.

The crowd gasped as Garet turned to them and grinned. "That's how it's done."

"I don't think so, hothead!" called his adversary, jumping right out of the smoke and shouting, "Hammer Beat!" Before Garet could react, he was bonked on the head pretty hard with Reyn's gunlance, creating a shockwave that knocked him off his feet.

40...

Quickly recovering and feeling himself getting quite aggravated, Garet held his hand out and this time he unleashed three Mars Djinn and they fired themselves towards Reyn like flaming missiles. The Homs grunted and skidded back a bit as the first one hit, and he quickly held his gunlance in front of him to block the other two with his shield, and then charged forward with it still in front, hitting Garet right in the head again, this time with a Shield Bash, dazing him and knocking the sword out of his hands. Garet groaned and held his head as he saw stars, and with him left vulnerable, Reyn followed with a lariat, getting quite a few good hits and knocking him back.

"Ready to say who's the better man?" Reyn questioned.

"Not yet!" Garet growled, rings of orange energy surrounding him. "Tiamat, I summon you!" Several more fireballs rained down as a large purple dragon was summoned and landed in the yard with a roar.

30...

Thinking fast, Reyn stabbed his weapon into the ground to put his shield up and protect himself from the dragon's fire breath, which proved to be effective. Once that ended, he picked it back up and rushed forward as Tiamat disappeared and went in for a surprise attack. "Bone Upper!" With that shout, he delivered an uppercut to Garet's jaw. "Dive Sobat!" He followed with a hard kick right to the Adept's chest, sending him skidding on his back and making an implant in the dirt. "Ha, not so tough now, are ya?"

But Garet stood right back up like that was nothing, as while Reyn was distracted with Tiamat, he had unleashed Flash to radically boost his defense for a bit. "Nope, barely felt a thing."

20...

"Well, can you still feel this?" Reyn asked, running over and swinging a leg up, kicking the Adept right in an area that made the whole crowd wince.

Garet's eyes went wider than saucers and he let out a high-pitched holler of pain as he dropped to his knees while clutching his groin. If you're a guy, then you'd know how much that hurts.

"Time to finish this." Reyn grinned, using Berserker to power himself up.

Without his weapon, and still feeling excruciating pain in his crotch, Garet could only try to defend himself as he tried to block Reyn's gunlance, but it was fruitless as the Homs had gotten much stronger.

10...

"Sword Drive!" shouted Reyn, quickly stabbing his blade right at Garet's side, which pierced through and made him yell in great pain before the former swung his weapon to send the latter tumbling several feet, leaving him pretty roughed up as his side started to bleed.

Seeing his opponent was nearly down, Reyn decided it was time to end this as he approached the Adept while he struggled to get back up.

5...

"Any last words?" asked the Homs.

4...

"I got one." Garet replied, a small grin spreading on his face.

3...

"Pyroclasm!" Reyn looked confused at first, and then his eyes widened as he felt rumbling right under his feet.

2...

"Oh, crud..." He had no time to react before...

1...

*KA-BLOOSH!*

A massive volcanic eruption exploded from the ground, shaking the earth and singeing everything within its range. The blast could be seen several miles away and those witnessing the match had to take cover while those inside felt the tremors, leaving them to wonder if it was an earthquake.

When the eruption ceased, a large crater was left in the middle of the yard, and Garet, despite the burns and bruises on his body, as well as the stab wound to his side, was still conscious. Breathing heavily, he slowly stood back up onto his feet and saw his opponent down and out, his body covered in burns. "Hah...I did it."

K.O.!

"Garet!" called a familiar voice, and Garet turned his head to see Isaac and Shulk, both blondes in utter shock at the destruction the fight had caused. "Man, what did you do?!"

Shulk on the other hand, was shocked about something else. "Reyn!" he exclaimed, running over and kneeling by his unconscious friend. "Reyn, are you okay? Speak to me!"

A moment of silence passed, and Reyn coughed as he came back to his senses and stood up, and he was...chuckling? "That...was awesome! I haven't had a good fight like that in ages!" Shaking off the burns, he walked over to Garet and smiled. "Good game, man. You really had me at the end there."

"Heh...thanks." Garet smiled back, hissing as Isaac began using his curing spell to heal his wounds.

"Woah, you okay there, pal?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Nothing this guy can't handle."

Once Isaac was done healing, the two redheads smiled at each other and shook hands. "All this fighting has made me a bit hungry, so...you wanna go get some pizza or something?" Reyn asked.

"Yeah, sure." Garet agreed.

Having put their petty little feud behind them, the two redheads walked off while complimenting each other and their buddies watched and smiled. "Well, looks like everything turned out okay for them." Shulk said.

"Yeah, but what are we gonna do about this?" Isaac asked, looking around at the burnt battlefield.

"Oh, right. Master Hand's not gonna be very happy to see this." Shulk muttered, shuddering as he knew the head of Smash would completely flip his lid if he saw the front yard destroyed.

Meanwhile, Reyn and Garet were sitting together, talking and laughing over the fight they had while treating themselves to some pizza.

"Man, when you summoned those fireballs, you really had me on my toes."

"Yeah, and you weren't too bad either." Garet chuckled. "You know, we have so much in common, and looking back, it was pretty silly of us to fight over it."

"Ah, that's all water under the bridge. I'm just glad I now have a friend I can relate to."

"Yeah, same here." Garet replied, and then noticed there was one pizza slice left, and that gave him an idea. "Hey, how about we arm wrestle for that last slice?"

Reyn flashed him a grin. "You're on."

This melee's winner is...Garet!
