Hey everyone. You might be wondering: Why? Why this? Well, I recently watched Chronicle and I forgot how good it was. Seriously that movie is awesome and is really sad to what happens to Andrew. And since I am in a The Promised Neverland vibe, I decided why not. Now keep in mind this isn't going to be a shot for shot story based on Chronicle, so nobody is going to be all murderous avenger by the end. Also, this will be set in modern day, Chronicle was in 2012 and wow do I feel old. Ok so let's start. Have fun.
New York city 2021
Queen area
It was a peaceful day in the big city of New York. People going to their jobs, kids going to school, no pandemic and everything seemed to be totally fine.
Grace field orphanage.
This was a big house that was very famous in that area of queens. The Grace field corporation was a famous one that housed thousands of orphans all over the country. Once they found a child without parents they were treated to the best meals, best treatment, best education and best line of clothes. With endorsements all over the worlds these kids were some of the luckiest ones in the planet.
In one specifical orphanage in New York city a big house with a huge field was the home of many children. The head woman of that center was called Isabella and she loved those children like if they were her owns. The oldest ones in the house are called Ray, Norman and Emma. The three are very different in personality but they are the best of friends ever since they were found. Right now, Emma was pestering Ray like she usually do.
''Hey Ray, what are you doing?" Asked Emma
''Nothing much, just reading some Jules Verne's.'' Said Ray with a copy of ´´Around the World in Eighty days´´ while he was reading in his favorite reading spot. His back towards a tree that had a nice view of the house.
''Oh, why another boring ones. What can you read the same books as me and the other kids?" Asked Emma.
''Comics books aren't books.'' Said Ray all bored.
''Hey comic are the new big thing. Don't you see all those posts about how they are next the next big tales or something?'' Asked Emma all irritated.
''Well, I´m sorry that I am not into this fad like you and everyone. It will pass like that stupid vampire one.'' Said Ray remembering the days that he was forced to watch every vampire movie and teen show on the air. The nightmares.
''Then why do you go to us to every Marvel movie?'' Asked Emma. The dark haired boy was always with them when they go to the movies.
''Because mom drags us to go and I can't stay alone.'' Said Ray all annoyed.
''You enjoy them.'' Said Emma confused.
''Yes, they are mindless fun. That's all.'' Said Ray with a smirk.
'No wonder people don't like you.'' Said Emma with a pout.
''Do I hear some arguing?" Asked a new voice.
The two turned their head and see a white-haired boy coming to them.
''Oh, hey Norman. What are you doing?'' Asked Emma.
''Nothing much, just killing time before doing some of the shores.'' Said him.
''Is our turn this time!'' Asked Emma confused.
''Last week it was Don and Gilda.'' Said Norman confirming.
''Fine, I think I will take a nap and then do the shores.'' Said Emma all tired.
''Ok, just call me.'' Said Ray confirming.
''Sure.'' Said Norman with a smile.
Later.
Inside the house.
All the kids were settling down to have dinner. Emma, Norman and Ray were preparing the table and settling everything. Behind them their ´´mom´´ Isabella was making sure that every kid was present.
''Ok, everyone don't forget to wash your hands and…oh no.'' Said Isabella looking at their stocks of food.
''What is wrong mama?'' Asked Gilda.
''We are missing a few ingredients for the dessert.'' Said Isabella.
''What are we missing?" Asked Gilda.
''Some flour and eggs. Don't worry I can call the headquarters and they can send us a new batch tomorrow morning.'' Said Isabella
''Wait mom, let me go to the supermarket.'' Said Emma all excited.
''Uh?''' Asked Isabella confused.
Emma was always the adventurous one. Every time the kids go out, she was the one that wanted to have more adventure and explore the open world.
''Are you sure Emma? Is late and we can spend one night without dessert and…'' Said Isabella but Emma was persistent.
''don't worry mom. Nothing will happen, I know how to get from here to the store. Is super easy.'' Said Emma.
The older woman couldn't let her precious child get hurt, but she was sure that this could be a good opportunity to make her get more independent.
''Are you letting me go?" Asked Emma.
''Yes, but only if someone goes with you. Norman, can you go with Emma?" Asked Isabella.
Norman was an obvious choice. He was the natural leader of the kids of the orphanage and was the smartest there. With him Emma wasn't going to do anything crazy.
''Sure, if something happen, I can help Emma.'' Said him with a smile.
''Good but is also good for Ray to come.'' Said Isabella. While she knew Norman was responsible, Ray was the one that would get that job done quicker.
''What! No way, I am not going.'' Said him.
His answer got a good stare from Isabella, after seeing that glare that he felt like an hour he accepted.
''Fine. But it better be quick.'' Said Ray.
''We promise to be at our best behavior.'' Said Emma.
The other kids were all happy for them. Is very rare to see someone go outside to the streets without mama, still the older woman was happy to see her precious children grown more independent.
''Ok here is the money and my emergency phone.'' Said her.
The trio looked amazed at that. Nobody at that house had a phone (Isabella said everyone gets their own once they turn 16 or are adopted) so this felt like a really big deal.
''Wow, look at this. I feel so grown up.'' Said Emma.
''But don't forget the rules.'' Said Isabella all serious.
''don't talk to strangers.'' Said Ray repeating the rules with the other two.
''Always follow the signs.'' Said Norman.
''Show that we are members of Grace field orphanage.'' Said Emma.
''don't accept candy from strangers.'' Said Ray.
''Stay in crowed areas so we don't get attack.'' Said Norman.
''We know all the rules mom.'' Said Emma.
The older woman laugh at that let them go.
''Alright Emma, Norman, Ray, I let you all go.'' Said her
''Yes!'' Said Emma all excited.
Soon all the kids were near the exit while Isabella explained what was happening.
''Alright everyone, listen closely. Emma, Norman and Ray will go out to buy some flour and eggs on the supermarket down the street. They will go alone so I don't have to leave you all.'' Said Isabella.
''Oh really?'' Asked Phil.
''You three have permission to go out?'' Asked Thomas confused
''Yes, isn't this cool?'' Said Emma.
''When is going to be my turn?" Asked Nat.
''I wish I was older.'' Said Yvette.
''Please mama you can't let them go.'' Said Chris nervous.
''don't let the bad guys take you all.'' Said Lani.
''Mama is Emma, Norman and Ray going to be ok?" Asked Phil worried.
''don't worry my sweets. I am also scared but that the hardship of being a parent. You need to see your children to leave the nest.'' Said Isabella.
''Yes, this is so touching.'' Said Ray with sarcasm in his tone.
''One hour. That the limit, otherwise I will the cops search you all for the entire country.'' Said Isabella all serious.
''You wouldn't do that?'' Asked Emma with a laugh.
''I will do anything to find any of my children. That's my mother instinct.'' Said Isabella.
''Sure mom.'' Said Norman.
The children all gather together to say goodbye to the three older kids in the orphanage. It sure sound a little cheesy they say goodbye to them since they are only going out to the supermarket, but hey they don't leave the house very often.
''Ok be careful and don't go in the subway. Is creepy.'' Said Gilda.
''if anything, happen I will sell all of Ray books on ebay.'' Said Don with a smirk.
''Do that and my ghost will drag you to hell.'' Said Ray and that got him a punch in the head.
Pouch
''Ouch.'' Said Ray in pain.
''Language young man. '' Said Isabella all strict.
''Sorry.'' Said Ray annoyed.
Soon they were all off as the kids wave goodbye to them.
''be careful.'' Said Isabella.
''don't worry we have your phone.'' Said Emma.
''Yes, mom don't worry I am here.'' Said Norman.
''And so am I to make sure nobody here screw up.'' Said Ray.
The older woman knew those three were more than capable of going out to the supermarket and return home safety, but she wonders what else could happen in that short amount of time.
''Be safe my darlings.'' Thought Isabella as she went inside with the other children's.
35 Minutes later.
Emma, Norman and Ray were off from the supermarket and they have some bags of flour and the eggs necessary.
''We got everything.'' Said Emma.
''So, lets head back as fast as we can.'' Said Ray.
''Can't we just explore the city a little bit?" Asked Emma
''No, we need to get back or mom will be worry.'' Said Ray
''Yes, so safe that imagination for later Emma.'' Said Norman with a smile.
''You guys are no fun.'' Said Emma.
However, the orange hair girl heard some weird noises coming from the bushes. She didn't know what it could be.
''What is wrong?'' Asked Norman.
''Do you guys hear that?'' Asked Emma and the two boys did hear something weird.
''It might be a cat.'' Said Norman.
''yes, let's go.'' Said Ray wanting to return home to read.
Emma kept hearing that weird noise again. It sounded like a mixture of horror grinding all cramped together.
''Is not a cat.'' Said Emma now worried.
''So is a possum or a skunk. Whatever is a wild animal, lets go home.'' Said Ray.
The girl wanting to know what was going dash out and went to explore herself.
''Emma!'' Scream Norman chasing the girl.
''Good, now we have to chase her. Why did I had to carry the eggs?" Asked Ray.
The girl walked into the woods that are near a park that mama usually take the kids out to play when they go outside. She wanted to know what kind weird animal was doing that noise.
''What is that? Is a weird creature? I wonder what could it be?" Asked Emma.
The girl kept going until she saw the origin of that sound.
''Oh god!'' Scream her in disgust.
''Emma what are you…'' Said Norman finding her alongside Ray.
''Look!'' Scream her.
The two also saw what she was pointing at. A half-eaten cat, the guts of the animals were all out and the thing look like it was begging to die. The two were also in shock by this.
''don't look Emma.'' Said Norman protecting the girl.
''Oh god.'' Said Emma in horror.
''Ray what do you think did that?'' Asked Norman.
The dark-haired boy kneel down and observed the animal.
''Whoever did this was hungry. By the jaw structure it has to be a big animal. I would say a jackal or a bear.'' Said Ray.
''But we don't have those animals here. Unless they escaped the zoo.'' Said Norman.
What the trio didn't know that there was a wild animal near them. But it was something they never seen before; they even heard some weird sound coming from the woods.
Raaaaar
''Do you all hear that?'' Asked Emma spooked. That sounded like a monster.
''I did.'' Said Ray now nervous.
''So, let's be going and…AAAAAAAAHHHHHH.'' Said Norman before he fell down.
''NORMAN!'' Scream Ray and Emma.
The two tried to see where Norman went but at this point was too dark and the clouds were blocking the light of the moon.
''Turn on the light on mom phone.'' Said Ray.
Emma did that and put the light on the ground finding….
''A whole!'' Said Emma in shock.
''Norman are you ok?'' Asked Ray screaming in the whole.
''Yes, but I think I might twisted my ankle.'' Said Norman.
''Oh my god.'' Said Emma worried. This was all her fault.
''Are you in constant pain?'' Asked Ray.
''No, I am not. But I can't climb out. One of you two will have to help me.'' Said Norman.
''What!'' Said Emma in shock.
Ray didn't want to leave Emma behind, but he had no choice.
''Stay here.'' Said Ray going down.
It didn't last 5 minutes until Emma jump down in the whole.
''Uh…wait for me!'' Scream her.
On the whole.
''I can't believe you fall this high.'' Said Ray helping Norman.
''Ray are you ok?'' Asked Norman.
''Yes, I think so. I can climb this thing with my own hands.' Said the dark-haired boy.
''Sorry about that. And also sorry about Emma, she might be scared all there alone.'' Said Norman.
''Emma is ok. She has the phone.'' Said Ray.
''Hi guys.'' Said Emma getting down and meeting with the two.
The two boys were startled by this and shocked.
''Emma what are you doing?!'' Asked Norman in horror.
'Whatever, grab his other arm we can get out of here faster.'' Said Ray wanting to get out of there.
''Look boys!'' Said Emma seeing something new.
The two all looked what she was seeing and unlike the half-eaten cat, this was a little more interested. It was a bright blue light, and it was almost like it was calling them.
''What is that?'' Asked Norman.
''I don't know, and I don't care. Let's go.'' Said Ray wanting to get out of here.
''Emma, what are you doing?'' Asked Norman seeing Emma walking toward the light.
''I wanna see what is that.'' Said Emma all cheerful and bright.
Norman didn't know why but he wanted to see what that thing was. Unlike the last mysterious thing they saw, this might be something different and cool.
''Ok, let's be fast.'' Said Norman.
''What!'' Said Ray in shock. Was Norman that much in love with Emma that he does whatever she wants?
''Just a peak.'' Said Norman with a kiddy smile.
''Norman….'' Said Ray all annoyed. He didn't punched Norman because he was with a twisted ankle.
''Come on Ray. Live out a little bit. Besides Emma really wants to see it.'' Said Norman with a smile.
Ray looked at his two brothers with pleading puppy dog looks and he decided to just do this time.
''Ok but 5 minutes.'' Said him.
''Alright.'' Said Emma all happy.
The trio followed the light in the tunnel that they were in. it looked it was hand made, but it didn't appear human.
''Smell horrible.'' Said Emma all disgusted.
''Yes, I think it might be the sewer.'' Said Norman.
''What are you doing?'' Asked Emma seeing Ray now with the phone in his hands.
''Sending our location to mom.'' Said Ray.
''Why?'' Asked the girl.
''By the looks we are gonna pass the one-hour mark. I wanna still have a bed once we get back.'' Said Ray.
Norman only laughs at that, while Emma looks annoyed. Ray was such a downer sometimes.
''You are so dramatic sometimes.'' Said Norman.
''Guys!' Said Emma
Soon they found what was the cause of that light. A huge rock that was emitting that blue light all over the tunnel, it looked like something from outer space.
''An asteroid.'' Said Emma in surprise.
''Yes, or is a huge mineral.'' Said Norman curious.
''Or it might be the center of the world.'' Said Ray with a hypotheses or anything at this point.
Emma didn't know why but she wanted to get closer to that asteroid.
''Do you know what it might be?'' Asked Ray.
''No.'' Said Norman fascinated with the strange thing.
''We saw the thing. Let's go.'' Said Ray wanting to head out.
Emma however was getting closer and closer to the mineral that was getting the two boys scared.
''I wanna touch it.'' Said Emma almost hypnotized.
''Emma wait.'' Said Norman in horror.
Emma indeed touch the strange mineral and soon the entire place started to shake.
''What is going on?'' Asked Emma looking out that she got all spaced out.
''Emma!'' Scream Ray and Norman going to protect her when suddenly.
BOOM
A huge flash of light appeared and pretty much make the three 13-year-olds see nothing, they felt them some weird shock all over their bodies until they all black out.
The next day.
Emma was now starting to wake. All she remember was seeing that huge rock and that's all.
''My head hurts.'' Said Emma in the infirmary of the orphanage.
''Emma!'' Said the voice of Gilda.
The orange haired gilr open her eyes and saw the green haired girl and a lot of others kids all gather near her.
''Gilda, Don, guys. Where am i?'' Asked Emma.
''In the infirmary.'' Said Don
''Mom and the police found you, Norman and Ray. We were so worried.'' Said Phil all sad.
''Oh, so they have to also enter in the whole? Oops.'' Said Emma.
The kids all looked confused over what Emma was saying.
''What whole?'' Asked Phil.
''Yes, they found you all knocked out in the park.'' Said Don.
Emma didn't know what they were saying. So, this was all a dream? They went down and didn't see that huge meteorite or rock?
''But we went down a whole. Norman twisted his ankle, and we see a rock. It was huge and it looked like something from outer space.'' Said Emma making everyone confused.
''Emma are you ok? Did a stranger gave you candy?'' Asked Gilda.
''I am. I didn't take anything from strangers'' Said Emma all certain.
''Right. We are calling mom to see you.'' Said Don.
Once Isabella had arrived both Norman and Ray were also awakened. However, the so kind woman was not happy in that instance.
''I am so disappointed with you three.'' Said her.
''We are sorry.'' Said Norman.
Isabella then went all serious and sentimental with the trio.
''You know that I get worried. Do you what they do to lost child? Do you!'' Asked her.
''We are sorry. It was my mistake.'' Said Emma.
''Yes, Emma wanted to see a wild animal, and something must made us pass out.'' Said Ray
''It is shameful I know. We are sorry mom.'' Said Norman.
The three looked very sad and with sorry faces because of their actions. That was enough for Isabella.
''Come here.'' Said her.
The older woman went to get all of the three together so she could hug them.
''I love you all.'' Said her.
''We love you too.'' Said the three.
''But you all worried me sick. All of you are grounded for two weeks.'' Said her making the three get in confusion.
''two weeks!'' Scream Emma.
''No TV, videogames or iPad in this time.'' Said Isabella listing the items.
''Is ok for me.'' Said Ray with a smirk.
''Ray, you can't go the library.'' Said Isabella busting the black haired boy bubble.
''What! So, what I am going to read?'' Asked him.
''I don't know. Comics, Manga, graphic novels, you can't read hard cover books.'' Said Isabella.
''You are enjoying this.'' Said Ray grinding his teeth.
''I know.'' Said Isabella with a smirk
Ray was super annoyed by that. No hardcover books for a week, that should be great.
''Now, I will make some dinner. Don't leave the room.'' Said Isabella leaving the room.
''thanks mom.'' Said Emma.
As the woman left the trio decided to let out their frustration.
''Well, we are grounded thanks to Emma.'' Said Ray annoyed as he gives Emma the finger.
''Hey, I also don't like that. I´m sorry.'' Said Emma.
''Listen here we all escaped unharmed to whatever happened in the park. We should pray later, we made everyone worried sick.'' Said Norman brining a good point.
''Yes, you are right Norman. I hated to see their worried faces; it broke my heart. The same way I feel guilty for letting you twist your ankle; don't worry I will take care of you.'' Said Emma.
Norman blush over Emma comment but there was one problem.
''Actually, my ankle is feeling fine.'' Said Norman not feeling any pain.
''Really?'' Asked Emma.
''Yes, it doesn't hurt anymore.'' Said Norman showing off his perfect working leg.
Ray didn't know what to say. That was a weird recovery.
''That is unexpected. It should at least take more than a day to heal.'' Said him.
Emma also felt weird. She felt like she was lighter than a feather.
''Guys do all fell a little lighter?'' Asked Emma.
The two boys didn't know, but they were also feeling that.
''Yes, I do.'' Said Norman.
''Me to.'' Said Ray.
''Really, I don't know if we lose weight or…'' Said Emma.
Soon she stopped talking because she felt something weird. Her butt wasn't touching the bed.
''what is going?'' Asked Emma scared.
''Emma!'' Scream Norman and Ray also scared.
They were all supposed to be scared because out of nowhere Emma started to float in mid air. She didn't know why and that was freaking her out.
''I AM FLYING!'' Scream her flying and touching the ceiling.
Norman and Ray were shaken by this. Both their hearts were going into incredible sped upon seeing that.
''How?'' Asked Norman.
Ray didn't know if that was possible, because he wanted to hear more about the police and mom explanation. They said they found the trio in the forest, but he remember everything that happened that night.
''The meteor.'' Said Ray with the most obvious explanation.
The trio didn't know what was going on and what would happen to them next.
In a secret room in the orphanage.
Isabella was speaking with someone over in her phone.
''How are three?" Asked a dark mysterious voice.
''In perfect conditions. None of the brains were damaged.'' Said her.
''Good, keep them in good conditions. In a few months we will select one of them.'' Said the voice.
''You know our deal.'' Said Isabelle.
''Yes, but we know we don't keep our promise.'' Said the voice.
''I know, and I am ok if you don't do it.'' Said Isabella all cold.
''You are a good agent.'' Said the voice.
''Yes, just following orders.'' Said Isabella.
''We will send the new order via email.'' Said the voice.
''Singin out.'' Said Isabella.
The woman looked at the police files of last night. They found the three inside a dark tune., there was nothing there and maybe they just fall.
''What could those three have been doing?'' Thought her.
She knew the ´´things´´ were out and she knew that if either Norman, Ray or Emma get brain damage she and the rest of the kids as well humanity would be in dangerous.
''I guess should contact headquarters and increase the security. None of the kids will leave my sight for a minute.'' Thought her.
On that day the security system on the Grace filed Orphanage of New York was enhanced quite a bit. Mama said it was for protection, but it was for something more. Meanwhile three kids were discovering what they have unlocked.
So here we have a nice and random story. Could work? Yes, it will. I already have the entire story planned and this won't be a long one. This will awesome and totally fun to write for the long run. See you all and be safe.
