Natsume thought he understood what fire was, because after all, it is the power he wields. Mikan makes him feel otherwise. A story after they reunited.

Prologue
When they first met each other, Natsume wanted to turn Mikan into ashes. But then, as he got to know her, he distanced himself, afraid that she'll be burned.
Mikan got closer and closer to him, yet she did not burn. She did't even melt. Somehow, she tempered his fire instead.
Natsume made up his mind. He must use every bit of fire he has left to protect her, even if it would costs his life.
It almost did.
But then, just as he was losing all hope of seeing her bright smile again, Mikan appeared. She rekindled his dying embers. He lived.
The price was steep. Her memories. Of the academy. Her friends. Her parents. Him.
But all was not lost. Mikan's tiny Alice stone created a miracle.
Note:
This story supposes that Mikan successfully revived Natsume. She still left the academy because she lost her Alice. Hotaru and Subaru were not lost in time-space. Hotaru also graduated early together with Natsume and Ruka but they re-enroll to be with her.
The story starts at the beach where Mikan reunited with her Gakuen Alice family.
