MERCY
The Child
In a place far from everything, there was a small town called Mercy. It was a very peaceful city with peaceful people, until something fell out of space.
The population panicked, as they were not sure what that strange object that had just fallen from the sky was, until a brave young man named Isaac, the city marshal, calmed them down and decided to go and see what it was. He then took his horse and started to ride in the direction where the explosion had occurred. It went further than he thought.
Along the way, several things crossed Isaac's mind, as curiosity was killing him. Was it a plane? a helicopter? A balloon? What if it was an alien ship ?!
He shook his head, trying to get rid of the last thought. '' Don't be stupid, these things don't exist '' He thought to himself.
After much riding, Isaac finally arrived at the desired location. He got off his horse and started walking slowly towards the huge crater. The fear was great, but the man tried not to focus on him.
-Are you my mummy? - A voice broke the silence. The voice was very low, but Isaac could still hear perfectly.
-Are you my mummy? Mummy, mummy! Are you my mummy? - the voice repeated louder and louder.
Isaac couldn't see anything, as the dust was still very high, so the man decided to get even closer.
A sphere. There was a very strange sphere. It was open and even small compared to the huge hole it had made when it fell.
-Mummy? - the voice spoke again, making Isaac scream and turn around quickly and see a child of about 3 years old.
-What are you doing alone here, at this hour? he asked and looked at the sphere again. It was then that he realized. -You were in that sphere, weren't you?
The child looked confused and did not respond.
At that moment the man was in a dilemma: take that little boy with him and try to explain it to the townspeople or leave him there and pretend that nothing happened.
The moment he thought the last thing, he realized how bad it looked.
-Who are you, little buddy?
-The Doctor - replied the little boy with indifference.
Now it was Isaac's turn to be confused.
-I meant what is your name?
-Doctor - he repeated and ran when Isaac tried to approach.
''These things only happen to me'' The man thought and took a deep breath, running after the child.
It was already dawn when Isaac returned to Mercy with the boy in his arms (after all that running, he had grown tired and gave up running).
-I will help you find your parents, little friend - whispered the man, as he placed the child in his bed.
