PS. Chapter Word Count: 3444 (this is the longest chapter I've ever written for ANYTHING)

PSS. This is my first time writing anything for the Owl House, but I hope everyone was in character? TOH takes place after Luz's first summer, and GF after the twin's second summer.

PSSS. This is a new AU I made where Luz and the twins were childhood friends. Please enjoy!

PSSSS. I never described Luz's palisman, because I don't know what she'll have, and she's too complex of a character (and feels like I'm doing her a misservice) to guess.

PSSSSS. This was made during the season 1 and 2 hiatus for TOH, so it's canon up to that point.

PSSSSSS. this story is named after the first chapter. I haven't figured out a name for this AU, but this chapter is "After Two Summers" for obvious reasons, and that's what I named the book. Will definitely change after I add more chapters

Luz's adventure in the boiling isles had come to a close. Summer was over and she had to leave the magical realm and head back to her home under the vise of having been at summer camp all summer.

She had bid her goodbyes to all her friends and (basically) adopted family. She was basically a witch now, staff and all. Eda had given it to her as a goodbye gift and received a pretty sweet new brooch in return. Her other friends/family- King, Lilith, Amity, Willow, Gus, and a few others- had all been gifted with little sentiments as well, wished farewell, with the promise of frequent visiting on her part.

She had glyphs with all the hundreds of spells she had been taught and they had rebuilt the door portal back to Earth. She had all her possessions- the bag of stuff she took with her and the whole new life of things she had received- and everything was in order.

And so, with one last goodbye, one last wave, and around twenty last hugs, also some tears, Luz Noceda the human stepped through the portal.

o0O0o

Luz had been excited for this day for the past three she'd been back on Earth. All she'd been doing was hiding all the magic of her summer (and what she brought with her), telling her mom more and more about her made up tales of "summer camp", and sneaking off to visit the isle.

Today though? Today was different. Luz always claimed to not have any friends on Earth, but that was an honest lie. She did have two, bonded over their weirdness and inability to make other friends: Mabel and Dipper Pines. And they were coming home today!

Last summer, the twins went to some weird town in Oregon, didn't share anything about it, and decided they wanted to go back. One of the reasons she was sent to summer camp (aside from the obvious) was so she would do something despite the two being gone. She did nothing the summer before, and her mom decided that was going to change.

None of that mattered though, she couldn't blame them for not revealing their summer to her because her lips were staying shut this ti- you know what? Maybe they didn't have to be?

The girl was snapped out of her thoughts when she saw the dull colored bus pull up to the station. "They're here!" She squealed, racing to be the first to greet them, though the only others there were her, her mom, the twin's parents, and a couple neighbors of the Pines.

The door opened up to reveal the two weird, newly fourteen year olds dressed in their usual fashions… Waddles was there too. "Hey girl!" Mabel cheered, running up to hug her friend.

"Hey Luz, how was your summer?" Her twin asked, tossing his book into his backpack.

"It was… great?" Said girl shrugged, not really knowing how to answer the question. "Yours?"

"Great!" Mabel exclaimed as her parents came up. "Hey Mom, hey Dad! How was summer?"

As the two newcomers went to meet up with everyone else, Luz made up her mind. She was going to show her two (kind of)human friends her secret.

o0O0o

"Luz, wait up!" Diaper called, following the human witch through the woods. "What is it that you wanted to show us?"

It was the day after the twin's arrival and Luz was dragging the two of them out to the woods with the promise of a "surprise". "Yeah, do we really have to do this now?" the knitter asked.

"Trust me guys, you'll like this. I'm gonna show you something that you won't believe!" The only child replied, going the route she'd memorized at this point.

"I doubt that," The boy in the lumberjack hat muttered.

"You better believe it," The witch exclaimed before adding under her breath, "I doubt you'll believe in magic on your first day though…"

Mabel skipped ahead a little as she asked, "Can you at least tell us what it's about?"

"What I did all summer!"

"You mean summer camp?" The male twin prompted, knowing full well what his friend was supposed to do all summer. Key word: supposed.

"I didn't go to summer camp silly," Luz admitted.

"Woah, woah, woah! You mean to tell us that you skipped summer camp? What did you do all summer? Camp in your mom's basement?" Mabel asked.

"Oh Mabesy, why would I go to summer camp when I have everything I need right here?" The other girl began before reaching into her backpack and pulling out her mulberry staff with her palisman on top.

"Wait a second! Is that a-" Dipper bagan before he was cut off by Luz taking out a weird button/key thingie and pressing it, allowing a white tint to open from the door of the abandoned house in front of them… how did neither of them notice that?

Luz hopped up the crooked steps that led inside before calling, "Come on! Let me introduce the two of you to… magic!" She did a quick jazz hand session before rushing inside.

"She has a palisman?" Mabel muttered so that only her twin could hear.

"Please don't tell me that that leads to the boiling isles…" Dipper moaned before rushing to follow his friend, the other girl following suit.

The universe didn't answer his prayers though and they stepped out of the portal to a living room… with Eda, King, and a blue haired witch they didn't recognize playing cards. "Hello Boiling Isles!" Luz greeted herself in, grabbing the attention of the three.

"Luz!" The miniature demon jumped up and sprung onto the brunette. "You haven't been back since yesterday!"

"Aww, did you miss me King? You cutie patootie-" The human witch began before King cut her off.

"The King of Demons misses no one!"

The two witches came over, not actually seeing their adoptive daughter's "friends", and Eda greeted, "Hey! You here to live off my rent for another three months?"

The blue haired witch laughed a little before realizing the twins. "Oh, you brought some human friends with you?" She asked.

"How rude of me!" Luz set King down and ran over to her other friends, not realizing the gasp from her original caretakers. "Eda, Lilith, and King, this is Mabel and Dipper-"

"Pines!" King finished, rushing over and hugging onto Mabel's leg.

"King!" The twins scolded, more or less in sync.

"Wait, what?" Luz asked, wondering how her little demon friend knew her human friends.

Eda quickly ran up and responded, "Well, if it isn't the insane Pine twins, my second favorite set actually-"

"Hey!" The Pines in question called.

"I'm just kidding… not really though… how's my ex-husband?"

"Ex-husband?" Luz asked, still not catching on.

"Which one?" Dipper joked, causing the four of them to share a quick (long) laugh before the unknown witch butted in.

"Can somebody please fill me- and Luz apparently- in? How do you know these other humans?"

"Yeah!" The only only child agreed before adding, "This better have some huge backstory elements and explain why Mabel and Dipper know you guys and didn't tell me!"

The Owl Lady sighed in mock exasperation before revealing, "Luz, Lilith, meet my first two freeloners… other than King… their great uncles were there too though."

"Hey!" King shouted.

"We were only "free loners" for like… three days!" Dipper called.

"What?" The two left in the dark asked, just a millisecond away from being in sync.

Mabel sighed and began to tell the story, "Me and Dipper and the rest of the Pines all know magic. It kind of runs in the family. Anywho, last March us two and our grunkles fell through a "random wormhole" and ended up on the Boiling Isles. We were walking around when our Grunkle Stan noticed his ex-wife, Eda- totally different story- and she took us to the Owl House-"

"Woah, woah, woah! You mean to tell me that my only friends for as long as I could remember were witches, and you never told me?!" Luz interrupted.

"Were not witches," The male twin defended.

"But you said magic runs in your family?"

"Were spellcasters! There's a difference! Spellcasters are from the Earth realm, look and pretend to be human, don't always know they're in any way magic till they're like… dead sometimes! Like, spellcasters can legit live there whole life without ever learning magic and-"

"Nerd!" Mabel called, picking King up off the floor.

The demon laughed as the young scientist rolled his eyes and motioned for Mabel to continue without waiting for Luz to respond. "So, Stan saw Eda, his exs-wife-"

"Wait! I just realized… you were married?! Eda! This is a crazy backstory from everyone I know!" not spellcaster- kind of human- kind of witch cheered.

Eda playfully bonked her adoptive daughter on the head with her staff defending, "That story is totally unrelated to how I know Mabel and Dipper. It was a scam in Vegas. Stay on topic."

"So- we were dimension traveling and stuff like that when we-"

"Why didn't the two of you tell me about magic!?"

"Do you want to hear the story or not?" Mabel stressed.

Luz took her hand and mimed zipping her mouth shut and assured, "I won't say another word."

The storyteller sighed as she continued, "So we were dimension travelling, we ran into Eda, she took us to the Owl House. We hung out, Grunkle Ford created an interdimensional portal, AKA your door thingy, and we went home."

"That's it?"

"I shortened the story so you couldn't interrupt me again."

"Oh come on, Mabes!"

"Hold up you guys," The still unknown witch stepped in. "Your… grunkle? Is that some weird human term?"

"It means great uncle."

"Ahh! Your 'great uncle' created the portal to the Earth realm?" She asked.

Dipper nodded, "Yes Ms… L-"

"Lilith," Luz whispered loudly into the boy's ear.

"Yes Ms. Lilith," The brunette repeated.

"So, a couple of humans created the portal in a matter of days, but it took weeks for the emperor to fix it?" The witch, Lilith apparently, clarified.

"Yes?" Mabel responded.

"So," Lilith concluded, "Not only is- was- Emperor Belos an ass hole, but he was an idiot too?"

The cuddly demon laughed and responded, "You didn't know that?"

"Well, it's like… 60% human technology, so it makes sense," The semi-creator informed.

"So, just to recap," Luz began. "Mabel and Dipper, my first and only friends till last summer, come from a line of "spellcasters" which are naturally magical humans who aren't witches. They have magic, I'm assuming they use it like… hourly! Like at school and home and the park, everyday, just spells! Hiding it from me-"

"How'd you know we can't go half an hour without magic?" The pig mom asked seriously.

"I was assuming Mabel!" The only one without natural magic stressed, getting as pissy as she could get without getting angry or mean. "Why didn't the two of you tell me? You know I've always loved the idea of real magic, and none of us really ever fitted in, which is why we all became friends in the first place! Why did you guys hide this all from me? Everytime I brought up magic -especially this school year- you just waved it off!"

"Luz, please, we just didn't think you'd believe us-" Dipper began.

Luz interrupted him, "Well, maybe you could show me or something! I don't know, but you guys are magical people with magical lives apparently, and I had to follow an owl through a portal- that you created- to even have a sense of belonging!"

"Luz, calm down," Eda scolded her apprentice.

Said girl sighed, "I just don't know how to feel about you guys keeping this secret from me. I was telling you guys about magic the day after you came home."

"Ooh! Human conflict," King whispered, dropping from Mabel's arms.

"We didn't want to scare you away…" Mabel admitted. "We didn't know how you'd react. We learned that people don't like things that they don't understand the hard way. You're- like you said yourself- our first and only friend until two summers ago. We were too scared to lose your friendship because you were scared of us."

"Oh…" The human witch realized before also realizing that Eda and King were both watching attentively with… popcorn? Seriously? "Is that really necessary?"

Eda waved her off suggesting, "Keep going, this is getting real good."

"Seriously?" Dipper and Lilith deadpanned.

The two cackled as Luz suggested, "You guys… said you were here for a short time, you want me to show you guys around?"

"Do we?" Mabel asked excitedly, rushing over to the door. "Hiya Hootie!"

"Sure… we could maybe show you some anomalies on Earth if it'll make you feel better later," The nicknamed kid offered.

"Why not?" The only child agreed.

King suddenly stood up from his spot on the couch, "Boo! The king of demons requires conflict!"

The Owl Lady stood as well and agreed, "Yeah, come on, a fox could do a better job at entertainment!"

"Well, I aint no fox," Mabel joked.

"I'm not a fox," The nerd corrected.

"Oh come on Dip!"

Lilith stepped in once more, "Well, proper grammar is important."

o0O0o

"So," Dipper began as the three childhood friends walked away from the owl house. "Tell us more about what you've been up to all summer?"

"Fine, but for every super cool thing I tell you guys about my magic, the Boiling Isles, or what it means to be a human witch, the two of you tell me something," The human witch settled.

The twins shrugged as Mabel agreed, "Sure!"

"OK," Luz began as they started to walk towards her school, Hexside, which was open in summer but closed in winter? "I make magic using circle glyphs that I need to draw on paper, how do you guys make magic?"

"As spell casters, our magic comes from our words, gestures, feelings, and emotions. We can also harness magic through things like zodiacs, summoning circles, and other magical objects, but those can be used by anyone. The root of our personal magic is our souls. I have the soul of the Pine Tree, while Mabel the Shooting Star. There's a lot more to it, it's kind of complicated, but that's the basis," The paranormal investigator summed up.

"Uh-hu, I got exactly none of that," The only child admitted.

The female Pines sighed and summarized, "Our magic comes from us naturally, but not from a "biosack"."

"Oh, why didn't you just say so?"

"Because he's a big nerd."

"Hey!" Her twin called.

Mabel playfully swatted him on the back and asked, "I thought you liked being a nerd?"

The self proclaimed nerd huffed and admitted, "Only when you don't make it sound like a bad thing! Being a nerd is great."

"Yeah!" Luz agreed. "Looks like Mabel's the oddball here because she's a non-nerd surrounded by nerds."

The knitter pumped her fist into the air and called, "Yes! Odd ball for life!"

The three laughed and luz, pretending to wipe a fake tear, stated, "Okie, I went to a magic school -over the summer- to learn magic, how about you guys?"

"We learned magic from, like, a million different sources! Our grunkle taught us a lot of early spells, but we learned a lot on our own," Mabel informed, fulfilling the kind-of deal.

"Interesting… I "guessed" this earlier, but how often do you guys use magic? How constant is it in your lives?" Luz asked.

The only boy of the group answered this one, "I, personally, have cast over ten different spells in the half hour we've been here if that gives you an idea."

"What?! When?" The human witch startled as they rounded in on her school.

"Remember how you told me Lilth's name when I was about to say something after pausing? I was about to say Lilith after doing a slight… what's the best way to put this that doesn't sound evil? Mind search? I don't know, that still sounds wrong when I say it out loud, it's perfectly fine though!" He admitted.

Luz giggled a little before realizing, "Oh! I heard the pause and assumed you didn't know, but I guess you were about to say something starting with "L"... sorry."

"Don't worry about it-"

"No way!" Mabel suddenly called, staring up at the huge castle-like building in front of them. "What is that place?"

"Hexside! It's my school!" The summer schooler announced before adding, "That counts as "information" by the way."

"Aww come on!" Dipper groaned.

The other spellcaster thought for a moment before deciding, "My first kiss was with a merman! Now, you went to school over summer?"

"No, I went to magic school over the summer, there's totally a difference," The magic student defended, resulting in laughs from her friends.

"Sure there is. It's still school Luz, it's different for you, but the people here see it as the following: School. Thus, you went to school over the summer," Mabel reasoned.

Luz began to tap her foot as she prompted, "Yeah, but it was fun school. So, I answered the summer school question…"

Dipper sighed, "Back home there's such a thing as a bottomless pit that eats inanimate objects but spits out living, breathing beings?"

"I swear! Why didn't you guys tell me about magic all year?"

"We told you, we didn't want to scare you off!" Mabel stressed. "Now pay up, that counts. And make it meaningful."

The other girl mimicked the boy's sigh from earlier and thought, "Something meaningful you say…?"

"Yes, something worthwhile."

"Hmm… I have a palisman? No, you already know that… I'm assuming you know that king's a demon?" Luz looked up to see her friends nodding and continued, "You clearly know what biosacks are… do you know about covens?"

Both twins let out annoyed sighs as the girl informed, "Last time we were here Eda wouldn't stop rambling about how much she hated them.

"Well then good for you, because they don't exist anymore!" Luz cheered, pumping her arm up.

"Really? How'd that happen? It seemed like witches were really holding onto the idea." Dipper wondered.

"Is that your next bit of information?"

"Is that your's?"

"Fair enough… it happened because [A/N: I obviously don't know how it happened (if it even does), this was written and posted during the season 1 and 2 hiatis and I'm not creative enough to make it up.]"

"That's so cool! You really made your mark on the boiling isles, didn't you?" Dipper congratulated.

Luz nodded in agreement as they made it to the main market place area, "The Boiling Isles are my home and I can't imagine my life without them and it's been like three months since I discovered them!"

"Same for us, only to Gravity Falls," Mabel agreed.

"Gravity Fa- hey! Is that where you've gone the past to summers? Is that also where magic exists on Earth?" The one who's never been there asked.

Both twins nodded as Mabel clarified, "Yeah, Piedmont really just isn't our home. That place shall forever be reserved for Gravity Falls.

"Cool!" Luz cheered, catching a quick glimpse at her watch. "Holy shit! Is that the time?"

Dipper looked at his own watch before joining the freak out, "We told our parents we'd be home by five, it's four fourty-seven!"

"Well then, what are you idiots waiting for? We gotta get back to the Owl House!" Mabel called, already grabbing the other two by the wrists.

o0O0o

"Bye guys! See y'all later!" Luz waved off her soul family as the three of them stepped out of the portal.

"Luz?" Mabel began.

"Yeah Mabes?"

"We're sorry we didn't tell you about magic, but thanks for trusting us," The spellcaster apologized and thanked in one, both sincere.

"No problemo-"

"We don't have time for this!" Dipper interjected. "We have, like, five minutes to get home!"

The human witch sighed but agreed shouting, "Well then, come on!"

As the three broke into a run towards their separate (kindof) houses, Mabel offered, "Tomorrow we'll take you to Gravity Falls! You like teleportation?"

"Do you like teleportation?" Her twin corrected.

Luz, not giving the boy any mind, responded, "I would love that! Thanks guys!"

"No problemo," The female Pines agreed.

"Wow!" Dipper suddenly gaped.

"What?"

"You know Luz, for the past year, we've considered you our only normal and human friend! Looks like we don't have one now," He joked.

The three giggled a little as Luz responded sarcastically, "Well, thanks!"

PS. Next I'll do the twins and Luz as kids, or the Pines in the Boiling Isles, or Luz's time in GF, or- or- we'll see! I had a lot of fun writing this and every chapter will be a different piece of this AU- totally out of order… Why did I do this to myself? Because it's fun? I'll go with that!

PSS. Ford made the door portal, because why the hell not? Dipper helped because, again, why not?

PSSS. I have a totally healthy addiction to reviews, so ReViEw! Either this or my addiction shall become strawberries!

PSSSS. There's so much I want to do with this AU, so stay tuned!
