Sam's POV
I'm not really sure which part of my day I look forward to the most anymore, not since the incident with the Tok'ra and the zatarc's anyway. When I first joined the Stargate program it was definitely going through the gate and then there was all the alien tech I got to play with. But suddenly things got a little confusing for a while and now, if I'm honest with myself, it's seeing him everyday. Some days I'm pretty sure I'm not even aware of what we're doing although I did have to reign that in a little, it doesn't look good for a 2IC to be fawning over her CO like a lost puppy dog. The worst thing about the whole situation is that he knows how I feel and I'm pretty sure he feels the same way. However, fraternizing is definitely not something we'd be allowed to get away with and I certainly don't want to ruin either of our careers.
Entering the mountain and going through security as usual I catch sight of him slightly ahead of me, about to enter the elevator.
"Sir! Hold the door" I yell, breaking into a jog to catch up to him. By the time I reach the elevator I'm slightly breathless, some of that I suspect is the sight of him in his usual civilian clothing, black leather jacket, white t shirt and blue jeans, god he looks hot and I'm pretty sure he knows it.
"Carter, I thought you'd already be here studying that doohickey we brought back from PC3 whatever it was the other day"
God he knows me well, I think to myself. Although I decide not to mention the fact I've been studying a device we brought back on a newer mission, I finished the previous one a while ago.
"They really are quite fascinating Sir, I'd be happy to..." he cuts me off with the wave of his hands before I get any further. I'm pretty sure he understands more than he lets on but I won't bore him with the details right now. We go our separate ways once in the mountain, I'm off to my lab to finish a report before our mission briefing later today and he's off to change and then hassle the new recruits.
Jack's POV
Another day another delightfully boring mission to look forward to and apparently today's is one that Daniel has been looking forward to for ages. I'm only looking forward to it because we're staying overnight, which means I get to spend more time with Carter, in a tent. We've been hiding our feelings, at least I have, since that stupid Tok'ra zatarc incident. Apparently we're leaving it in the room which I guess is better than us both getting court martialed and discharged. I couldn't care less about my own career but I'd never let that happen to Carter. Although it was her suggestion to leave it in the room so maybe she doesn't feel that way? Finally clearing security I enter the elevator, minding my own business and boom, there she is. Jogging towards me with a smile that could floor a thousand men and for a moment I swear we're the only two people on the planet.
"Morning Carter, I thought you'd already be here?" I question, knowing I left her studying some device we brought back a few days ago. She smiles at me before replying, ready to launch into a detailed discussion that I'm totally not ready for. Instead I wave my hand and cut her off, feeling a little smug at the slightest of blushes as she remembers I literally don't care about half the tech we bring back through the gate.
Once in the mountain I need to head off and get changed, pretty sure she was checking me out in the elevator, I make a mental note to wear this outfit everytime I arrive for work. She excuses herself before heading to her lab, mentioning a report that needs to be finished before our mission briefing later today. I tell her I'm training some new recruits and she makes me promise to go easy on them. I really do love her innocence, just for that, I'm going to fail them all.
As promised, I fail every single one of the recruits this morning. I half expected Teal'c to argue I was being unfair but even he didn't put up a fight this time, either I've finally broken him or they really were that bad. I've only got a few minutes until I'm due for our mission briefing but I reckon that's enough time for a slice of pie. I'm just about to enter the commissary when I practically walk into Carter on her way out, closely followed by Daniel.
"Sir, you really don't have time for cake" she comments with a smirk. Goddamm that woman.
"Well you owe me a slice then later" I reply, turning and following them both. Pretty sure I heard Daniel suppress a snort, I'll make sure he gets the coffee last when we get up tomorrow for that.
Sam's POV
Daniel and I stopped for lunch before our briefing, we chatted briefly about our respective weekends before the need for caffeine kicked in and we sat in relative silence, both contemplating our mission today. Daniel is the only one truly excited, apparently the local people he hopes to meet have some interesting artefacts he hopes to take a look at. He tried to convince me that the stars shine incredibly bright there, something to do with their proximity to another galaxy. I told him I highly doubted they were right on top of a galaxy but I admit it did catch my interest. Stopping Daniel from refilling his cup for the fourth time I remind him we need to head to the briefing room. Walking out I almost walk straight into the Colonel who's muttering something about cake, I also remind him we have a briefing to attend and drag them both with me in an effort not to be late.
Somehow we manage to make the briefing on time although as usual Teal'c is already there, not really sure how he does it to be honest. Unsurprisingly Daniel gets himself yet another cup of coffee and I throw him a look before he swiftly makes me one. General Hammond joins us a few minutes later and Daniel gets our briefing underway. Luckily for me, I'm not really required to contribute much to this one so I spend most of my time watching the Colonel trying his best to look like he's paying attention. I'm 100% sure he listens to everything that's said but the expression on his face says otherwise. At one point we catch each other's eyes and for that brief moment I allow myself to dream about what a relationship with him would actually be like. Before I realise it, Hammond has given us the go ahead for our mission and we stand up as he leaves before heading to the locker rooms to gear up.
"Gate room in 30 minutes" orders the Colonel, just enough time to change and see Janet for a pre mission check. Checking with the guys, I agree to see Janet first before changing and follow a practically skipping Daniel out of the briefing room.
"You're good to go Sam" says Janet after running through my pre mission checks. "Looking forward to a few days with the Colonel?" she asks, a smirk already covering half her face.
"Shut up" I reply with a grin of my own, "don't miss me too much" I yell as I head out of the infirmary and off to the locker rooms to get changed. I've pretty much got getting ready down to a fine art these days and even the extra we need to take to stay off-world doesn't take me long to sort, I like to leave my pack ready to go anyway. Changing swiftly I head to the armoury to grab my P90 and side arm before making my way to the gateroom.
"Colonel, all ready to go?" He's the first one there as usual, Teal'c follows me in and we stand and wait for Daniel before Walter dials the planet and the gate does it's thing. Watching the Colonel out of the corner of my eye, he fiddles with his cap before putting it on and then proceeds to rearrange Daniel's pack so he can actually get it on. Feelings aside, I count my stars everyday that I've managed to land a CO who actually gives a damn about his team. I've lost count of the number I've had and seen who literally just came in, did their job and left. Hammond's booming voice comes over the intercom, confirming we're good to go, snapping me out of my daydream.
"You heard him kids, let's go" orders Jack as Teal'c heads up the ramp first, closely followed by Daniel as I fall into step with the Colonel.
"Ready Sir?"
"You betcha" he replies with a smile before heading into the event horizon.
Jack's POV
Literally one slice of cake, that was all I wanted but nope, Carter drags me off to our briefing telling me we were going to be late otherwise. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm the one in charge. I slump down in my chair opposite Carter and mentally prepare myself for the delightfully uninteresting mission briefing Daniel will be giving once Hammond arrives. Pretty sure I caught Carter checking me out at one point and I allow myself a few minutes to wonder just what a relationship with her might be like. Thankfully I'm interrupted from my completely inappropriate daydream by the General giving us the go ahead for the mission.
"Gear up and meet in the gateroom in 30 minutes" I order. Once we get the go ahead I always like to get going as quickly as possible, giving Daniel less time to pack up everything he owns if nothing else. Carter heads to the Doc whilst Teal'c, Daniel and I go straight to the locker rooms.
I've got getting ready down to a fine art these days and subsequently I'm the first to arrive in the gateroom. I like to be there ahead of my team and I think they appreciate the fact that they aren't always waiting for me, Daniel takes that crown. Carter throws me one of her mega watt smiles as she enters and I distract myself by fiddling with my cap before hauling Daniel's over packed bag on his back. As usual Hammond gives the order to leave and Teal'c takes point, Carter and I bring up the rear and I head through with a huge smile on my face after she asks if I'm ready.
"How are we looking Teal'c?"
"The area is clear O'Neill" he replies as I watch the wormhole shut down behind Carter. We all know our roles when off-world and I stopped giving them orders a long time ago, confident that they'd do what was needed.
"Lead the way Daniel" he nods in reply and bounces off like an exuberant puppy. I flick my head at Carter and she smirks before jogging to catch up with him, no way I'm letting him lead without some competent support. He'd walk into the Jaffa patrol about to shoot him given half the chance.
