A/N:

This fic puts the fiction in fanfiction in the sense that in this story takes place in the supernatural world but, there are no tablet trials. The tablets are nothing other than information, that the prophet is able to translate, to help battle angels, demons and leviathans. Castiel has lost his grace, a punishment for what happened in heaven during the whole purgatory shebang. After he helped defeat them. So yes, Dean and Castiel have been to Purgatory. But seeing as the trials don't exist in this, Benny is alive, and he helped both Dean and Castiel out. Shortly thereafter Castiel was pulled to heaven and afterwards dropped in an unknown location. He manages to call the brothers and inform them, but he must find his way back to them on his own. Another part of the punishment. Many more may come, the angels were cryptic about that, because, well, they are still dickheads. He finds his way back eventually (just like on tv, but he doesn't get kicked out because of Gadreel).

So, Naomi doesn't exist in this either, the whole 'Angels are programmable' is out.

Which also means, that heaven never closed and therefore, Kevin is still alive, since Gadreel never made it to earth and killed him on orders from Metatron, who is still in hiding. Abaddon is taken care of, thanks to the demon tablet, and Crowley and the hunters have a truce conditioned on Crowley conducting his business without cheating, lying and killing innocents. A deal made after they helped him get rid of the red-headed knight of hell.

Now to the setting.

They all live in the bunker, Sam, Dean, Kevin, Castiel and Benny. They use is as a base of operations for their hunting. Kevin is the brains together with Sam, when he stays behind, but most times the younger Winchester joins Dean, Benny and Castiel on hunts.

I don't remember if there is a gym in the bunker, but I'm adding one in case there isn't. Also, in this bunker there are twenty dorm rooms. They are all furnished with one queen, but they vary in size.

The rooms are divided like this. Closest to the kitchen is Dean's room and across the hall from his is Sam's. The one next to Dean is occupied by Castiel. Kevin is four doors down, the room right where the hall turns a corner down to the end where Benny has claimed the last room, furthest from the kitchen. He's the only one with a fridge in his room, to keep his blood bags from going off.

Oh, and I'm adjusting the year, so it's the year 2012 so Dean is 33, Sam is 29 (well, soon since it's February) and Kevin is 18 turning 19 in December.

Before I forget. I don't own anything, except a head filled with endless weird and strange plots involving our two favorite guys.

This will eventually have Destiel loving, but it's probably gonna be a couple of chapters before anything major happens. We'll see where this takes us.

And that's it! Now, on with the story!

Children of Destiny

Chapter one

Lebanon, Kansas

Castiel is sitting in the passenger seat of the Impala, looking out the front window at the heavy snowfall. The windshield wipers are doing their best to keep up. Next to him Dean grumbles.

"This damn snow, I can't see where I'm going!" he is leaning forward over the steering wheel.

"It is fortunate we only have to drive in one straight line the rest of the way then" Castiel says, calming Dean's nerves with this gong ho attitude that the ex-angel has adopted in the last year. Dean visibly relaxes and sits back but doesn't take his eyes off the road.

They were coming back to the bunker after a supply run in the nearest town. Benny was on a trip somewhere, taking care of some personal business, and Sam and Kevin where cataloging more of the bunker's information. It had fallen to Dean and Castiel to do the weekly shopping.

Castiel smiles, he has found he likes that he has that effect on the hunter but turns his head to look out the side window, to hide it from his shopping companion. Since he had become human and had spent all those weeks out on his own, living a nomad existence, he had come to genuinely appreciate this profound bond that they shared. They hung out most nights in the bunker, playing video games or watching tv. He was not going to jeopardize that by pressing his feelings onto his friend.

Dean was thinking too, not oblivious to the affect Castiel was starting to have on him. He had been worried sick in the weeks without the former angel by their side, but neither of the guys in the bunker had given him any grief about it. Sam and he had gone on hunts to keep distracted, while Benny settled into the bunker, and when Castiel finally knocked on the door, he had hugged him tight and not let go for 30 seconds. The way Castiel had just gone along with it was probably why he thought about that hug often. His thoughts wandered off before he was startled out of it by Castiel's shouting.

"Dean, stop the car!" He did as he was told and almost stood on the brakes, now thankful he had put snow chains on, and looked over at Castiel who was already out the car and running towards the back of the car, car door left open.

"Dammit Cass!" Dean got out of his side of the car and closed the door after him, looking after Castiel to see what he was up to now.

A few feet from the closest streetlight, the angel was kneeling down in the snow and his voice was soft while he was talking to someone Dean couldn't see.

"Cass what is it?" he shouts curious, as he gets closer and is now able to make out what has the ex-angel's attention. He is shocked!

Standing on tiny legs barely visible in the deep snow, is a little girl, probably no more than two years old. The thick winter coat she is wearing is two sizes too big and covered in snow, and her little face is red from the cold and the tears weeping from her eyes have turned to ice on her lashes, black ringlets of hair sticking out on the sides of the hood she has over her head. The white fur on the rim of the hood was stained with fresh blood.

She sniffs and looks up at him when he approaches, speechless. Luckily Castiel has no such problems.

"What are you doing out here?" he asks again, this time he dares to reach out and pull her closer.

"Mommy auwee" she answers with a raspy voice, undoubtedly a result of the weather.

"So, she couldn't come with you?" she nodded one hand coming up to rub one eye. "How long have you been walking alone?" Both men exchange looks, and Dean pulls out his phone to call the bunker. He tells them to get ready for a search in the woods but doesn't elaborate before hanging up again.

"'old" she says before burying herself into the warm chest in front of her. Castiel takes off his jacket and wraps it around the tiny person like a blanket before pulling her into the warmth of his arms.

"We're taking her to the bunker" is all Dean has to say before they both move. "The others are getting the gear, you stay behind, the others and I will come back and start searching. Luckily the snow was getting lighter, but it was still falling.

Castiel picks her up and they make their way back to the Impala. He gets in with her in his arms and Dean looks at the dash, remembering the milage numbers, before they drive back to the bunker as fast as possible.

When they get there, the little girl has fallen asleep, likely from exhaustion. They enter the bunker to Kevin and Sam in full winter gear, bags packed with blankets and first aid kit, something that Castiel had insisted upon after he had gotten to the bunker. Open wounds and a vampire under the same roof were a bad idea.

Their mouths drop when Castiel enters behind Dean. A tiny face sticking out on top of the jacket that the man had taken off.

"Wait is that?" Sam asks raising a hand to point to the bundle in Castiel's arms. Kevin is just stunned.

"Yes Sam, that's a small child, and we think her mother is out there, so we have to hurry before the snow settles if we are going to have a snowballs chance in hell of finding her, so let's go" Dean orders, his expression telling them there is no time for chit chat, before turning to Castiel. He reaches up and touches the small cheek of the sleeping girl and it is ice cold. In the light of the bunker, he can see her cheeks and eyes are smeared with blood from her hands, though the snow seemed to have washed some of it off.

"Cass, take her to the shower room, and get her under the shower, she could get hypothermia if we don't get her out of those wet clothes and get her temperature up, then put her in lots of blankets" He grips Castiel's shoulder and stares at the worried look in his face. The angel feels this and looks up to meet his gaze.

"You can do this. We'll be back as soon as possible" he tries to convey how much faith he has in the angel with his eyes before running up the stairs after the other men, kind of frustrated that of all days for something like this to happen, it happens on a day Benny is gone. They could have used his tracking skills right about now.

The search party all get in and Dean backs up, making sure to keep an eye on the milage counter, and stops a little further back than where they found the girl.

Getting out they started looking for where her tracks came from and to their luck, they lead into the tree line and further in. The light snow won't have had time to cover any tracks under the cover of the trees.

They split up after Sam hands out the flashlights and walk with a distance of five meters between them in a parallel line through the trees, pointing the lights to the ground, searching left and right. Dean follows the tracks the still nameless girl made in the snow. If the Coat she was wearing hadn't been too big for her, this would have been a lot harder.

"Hello! Is there anybody out there?" Dean shouts and follows with "Make some noise so we can find you!"

To his left, Sam copies him but adds an "We're here to help!" and to his right, Kevin tries to listen for any noises that could come from someone in need.

They had been searching for half an hour and were beginning to lose hope of finding the lost mother, when Dean shouted for them to gather.

"This is insane, how far could such a tiny human have walked" he growls when they reach him, putting their flashlights down.

"What if her mother was taken by some animal? Or worse some kind of monster" Kevin states his teeth starting to clatter. The snow had stopped but the air was freezing.

"I am not going to let that little girl become an orphan" Dean replied before marching forward again, flashlight high and resumes shouting. It only lasts a few seconds before Kevin hears something.

"Dean, wait, listen" they all stop in their tracks, listening for what Kevin has heard. Barely audible pleas for help, ahead of them. They rush towards the sound and find a petite woman, her leg caught in a beartrap, the bones visibly broken. The snow around her is covered in blood, and Dean loses all hope that she is going to survive this.

When her eyes land on them she starts subbing and one bloddy hand reaches out to them.

"Please, my daughter" she rasps, her voice weak, from the cold or the bloodloss, they couldn't tell, maybe both, but Sam finds the first aid kit, and Dean kneels down next to her.

Kevin is looking around the woods, keeping watch while Dean reassures her.

"We found her, don't worry, she's safe. Let's take a look at you instead huh?" his voice was gentle, trying to keep her calm while he took at look at her injuries.

Other than the mangled leg she has a shoulder wound that has dyed her white coat red around the wound and gashes on her face.

"Look, there's no easy way to say this" Dean wishes he could do something more, but he couldn't. "You are dying, but if we hurry, we can make it back-"

"No, I don't want her to see me like this!" she was frantic grabbing the front of Dean's coat, she screamed through her teeth at the pain when her leg tugged on the inhumane trap.

"Hey hey, easy, keep you leg still" Dean pushes her slowly back to the ground on her back where they found her. "What happened to you?" he finally asks. Her breathing gets harder, but she does her best to get the word out.

"Enemy… trying to take-" she coughs and blood splashes from her mouth. She starts hyperventilating then grabs hold of the arm Dean was using to keep her from moving too much, her eyes seemed desperate when their eyes met.

"You have… to keep her… safe" she closes her eyes and shakes her head, as if trying to get pictures out of her head. "They killed… my husband… grabbed her and ran… the men… of letters" They all share looks.

"Take her to them… they… will… know…" and with that she exhaled her last breath and the guys were left with more questions than answers.

Alrighty! That was chapter one! What did you think? This is the first one I'm posting in this fandom, so I'm very excited.
