Second Opinion (S5 E1)
Claire breathed out as she approached the door. This was it. A new boss, the one who happened to be Jack McCoy with the reputation and all. But Claire didn't want another round of Judge Thayer. So she decided to put up walls to prevent that from happening again. She arrived at the door and knocked on it.
"Yeah?" Called a voice from inside.
Claire opened the door and went inside holding her briefcase to find him bent over the bookshelf, rummaging through it as if he was looking for something. He glanced up and turned around. Their eyes locked for just a moment. Claire found herself falling for it again. She felt an attraction. A spark. Something. But he broke the moment and said.
"Claire Kincaid"
"Jack McCoy" Claire replied, and shuffled in holding her briefcase with both of her hands.
As Jack stood, She said "I spoke to Mr Schiff, He said you had requested me"
"As soon as I heard Ben had resigned" He said now looking through a drawer. "Your reputation precedes you."
"As does yours" Claire Replied firmly, "Including your relationships, with previous assistants"
"Three" Jack responded standing up and moving on to the desk. "In the past 24 years in this office. And that includes an ex-wife"
Claire still stared at him as he moved about.
"Shall I be honest?"
"That would be helpful" said Claire taking a seat on the sofa.
"Those relationships were mutual, I hardly think that I should apologise for finding some of my coworkers more stimulating than the women I meet at the gym."
Claire smiled, "I just wanted to make it clear"
Jack raised a hand, "Yea" he confirmed as he flicked through the file on his desk.
He then grinned at her and said "I certainly don't anticipate a problem"
Claire shook her head slightly in approval. Jack then brandished a paper and held it up for her. "There we go" he said "Can we get to work now?"
