Jennifer Jareau was always a high achiever. She was on her high school's soccer team; she was a straight A student and she always succeeded in everything she set out for herself. So, it was no surprise when she got her acceptance letter through the mail for one of the best colleges in the Mid-Atlantic area. Georgetown was her first choice, after reading a book written by a Behavioural Analyst in the FBI, she had her heart set on criminal psychology, only hoping one day she could work her way into the prestigious unit of profilers and up to the same level as the famous David Rossi.
The days leading up to departure from East Allegheny were strained, her mother had wanted her to attend the local college so she could stay at home. Ever since her sister passed away, she had made a promise to herself that as soon as she turned 18, she would get out of the small town and make a life for herself that she would enjoy. Her plans however were hindered when her mother fell ill, she ended up putting her college education on hold to be there and help her mother through her illness.
Now at the age of 20, she was determined to work towards what she truly desired in life. She left her hometown with only her essentials, letting herself have a clean break away from the life she had led. JJ left her friends and family behind; she was ready for a new start and didn't look back.
So, this is where she found herself a week before term started. She had packed her car up and made her way from Pennsylvania to Washington, thankful that the drive was only 4 hours. She arrived late morning, giving herself time to unpack and settle into her shared dorm, and hoped to God that when her roommate arrived, they were as laid back as she was, and silently wishing they weren't weird.
When Penelope Garcia came crashing through the door, JJ almost fell out of bed. She had not been expecting her arrival so soon after her own but was thrilled when the bubbly blonde introduced herself.
"Hi! I'm Penelope, sorry I didn't mean to come tumbling through the door, I was so excited to see who I'd been roomed with and couple that with the amount of crap I'm carrying it was inevitable!" Penelope was incredibly excited, her words rushed, and she spoke with a rather high pitch tone to her voice.
"Haha, don't you worry. I wasn't expecting my roommate to arrive so soon after me, but I'm glad you're here! My name's Jennifer, but you can call me JJ." She chuckled happily, feeling slightly more at ease once the other blonde spoke.
"Well, it's lovely to meet you JJ. I guess this way it gives us more time to get to know each other before classes start! What are taking this year?" Penelope chattered away, moving to pick up her dropped items.
"Indeed, it does. I'm doing criminal psychology and behavioural sciences. I'm so excited to get classes started!" JJ beamed, shifting herself off her bed and helping Penelope with her stuff.
"Oh! Thank you, sweetness. That sounds interesting, but also like a lot of work. Do you want to be a psychologist or something? I'm doing computer science and analytics, but I already have a good working knowledge of it all so it should be easy peasy!" Penelope smiled at the petite blonde in front of her.
"Let's get your stuff sorted and then maybe we can go and take a walk around to familiarise ourselves, get something to eat and chat some more." JJ suggested, placing the baggage on the empty bed on the other side of the room.
"That sounds like a great idea, I think me, and you Miss JJ are going to get on a treat!" She squealed with happiness making JJ laugh.
On the first day of classes, JJ had barely got any sleep the night before, being both nervous and too excited. She had learnt a lot about Penelope in the days before, like how she lost both of her parents in an accident 2 years before when she was 18, dropping out of Caltech not long after. This is when she began to improve her computing skills and hinting at getting into some shady business with an ex-boyfriend of hers. She wanted a fresh start, so moved from San Francisco and applied for Georgetown.
JJ's worries about a bad roommate had been suitably cast aside, she knew that the two of them would end up being the best of friends. The two young women moved around each other effortlessly, Penelope had decorated her side of the dorm with fairy lights and bright coloured images that she'd printed from Pinterest. This was a stark contrast to JJ's side, which was a mixture of pale grey and a dusty blue, her bedsheets crisp and white and the images stuck to the wall were of old friends and family, and a few aesthetically pleasing visions of beautiful women.
JJ had revealed to Penelope that she was bisexual, but leaned more towards women, telling her she could appreciate a good-looking man but preferred the feminine form more. Penelope had come straight out saying that she was pansexual herself, making JJ smile at another similarity between the two of them.
"Who's your first class with Jayje?" Penelope asked smiling happily.
" for criminal justice studies, I heard that he was a lawyer. I have one more class after that then study period for the rest of the day, so I'll be back here just after lunch if you want to go and explore more?" JJ suggested, gathering her backpack and her coffee cup.
"Awesome! I only have one class today, it's an introductory session so I'm defo up for some lunch." She beamed back at the blonde.
"Sweet, I'll meet you back here. Good luck Pen, let me know how it goes!" She called, leaving their room and making her way to her first class.
Professor Hotchner was a good-looking man in his early thirties. The way he carried himself was authoritative and confident, JJ knew just by looking at him that he was good at what he did. He probably had a very successful career as a lawyer, and she couldn't help but wonder why he'd made the change to teaching. She took a place in the back row of the room, watching as a tall dark young man strode over and take a seat beside her.
"Hi I'm Derek." He grinned.
"Nice to meet you, I'm JJ." she offered a kind smile, knowing just by the look of him that he was confident and most likely a ladies' man.
"Pretty name, where you from blondie?" he asked, winking at her as he finished.
"Pennsylvania. What about you?" she returned, raising an eyebrow at the nickname.
"Nice. I'm from Chicago. Listen, there's a party at one of the frat houses tonight, a welcome kinda thing and I was wondering if you'd like to come with me?" he smiled suggestively at her.
JJ couldn't help but roll her eyes, why else would he have come over to sit with her. "Uh thanks for the offer, but I think I'll pass."
"I tell you what, I'll give you my number, and if you change your mind, I can send you the details. Feel free to bring a friend or two if you do decide to join us. It'll be fun." he donned a charming smile, making JJ blush a little.
"Sure Derek."
She pulled out her phone and let him put his number in the contacts, laughing at the name he put in 'Stud Muffin '.
He got out his textbook and laptop, confirming his seat for the rest of the semester beside her. Another new friend to add to the list she thought to herself. He was not the type of guy she'd have been friends with back home, but he seemed like fun and she was excited for the new turn in her life.
Prof Hotchner started the class, going through how the criminal justice system operated and how this was going to ready them for any possible scenarios they could encounter with the system in their careers in the future. JJ was enthralled with the way he explained things in such detail, giving them all time to ask their questions and voice any opinions of their own.
When the class finished, she conversed with Derek, and both realising that they were in all the same classes. She made a loose promise that she would try and attend this party tonight, saying she'd try and get her pretty blonde friend to join her, which made Derek's face light up in joy. They made their way to their next class, introduction to psychology.
"Our schedule doesn't have a professor listed for this class, I heard that David Rossi is teaching some classes here this year alongside his work with the BAU." Derek chimed in, breaking JJ from her thoughts as they walked down the hallway to their next room.
"I didn't know that, he's a legend. He's the whole reason I'm here, I think I'd have a fangirl moment and pass out if he walked into our next lecture!" JJ tried to mask her excitement at the possibility.
"Dude me too! I'd kill for a position at the BAU when we get our qualifications. Could you imagine working alongside that guy?!" Derek had to stop himself squealing, making JJ laugh.
"Looks like we have more in common that you thought, stud muffin." she joked, earning a chuckle from the tall man beside her.
They rounded the corner of the hallway and entered their lecture hall. JJ walked straight to the back of the room, Derek following closely behind, and they took their seats. JJ had to stop herself squirming in her seat, pondering the idea of David Rossi teaching their first year of psychology and behavioural studies. Their education would be the best of the best if it were coming from someone who knew exactly what happened in this area of work.
The rest of the students filed into the room soon after, all being seated and awaited the arrival of their professor. Low volume chatter filled the room, soon being interrupted when a tall brunette woman walked through the door and made her way over to the desk at the front of the hall. She commanded the attention of the whole room with her presence. JJ felt her entire body freeze, she was speechless. The older woman was a picture of beauty, almost goddess like. JJ felt Derek nudge her arm, pulling her from her shocked trance.
"Jesus JJ, stare much?" he whispered.
"Shut up Derek. She's fucking gorgeous, how can someone like that be a professor?!" she swallowed hard at the sight of the brunette busying herself at the desk.
She watched the woman move, wearing an impossibly tight black pencil skirt that stopped just above her knees. Her shirt was flaming red, buttoned up just enough to consider it professional and she wore heels that made her legs look unbelievably toned and long. She gulped a breath of air in at the images rolling through her brain. They were certainly not professional nor suitable for the situation they were currently in. She shook her head as if to try and bring her back to a normal thought process, hearing Derek laugh quietly beside her. She shot him an evil glare before turning her attention back to the professor.
Let me know what you think...
