Ladies and Gentlemen, we have landed at Tokyo International Airport; XXXXX Air welcomes you to Tokyo, Japan.

Finally, after 4 years, I came back.

"Noll, let's go." He looked at his Chinese friend/guardian Lin Koujo and noticed that their entire luggage is beside him. Oliver took his suitcase and headed out.

While driving to Shibuya, Oliver can't help but notice the subtle changes in the surroundings. There are additions and there were those that are no longer there. I guess 4 years can make things change a lot.

"Is the SPR still open during this hour?" He asked Lin since it almost past the working hour and it was a Sunday.

"It should be, I don't think Madoka would have a day off, unless they have case."

Once they have arrived, he was thankful to see that the lights were just turned off. Once they've reached upstairs, they immediately saw Madoka about to close up.

"Madoka" She looked at them and was surprised to see them.

"Noll, Lin, I thought you were supposed to arrive tomorrow?" She immediately opened the office once more to let them in.

"Put your stuff down and I'll get you some tea." They did what she told and sat down as they waited for her. Oliver looked around and saw that not that much had changed in the office, well, except the desk that was supposed to be beside the door of the kitchen is gone. When Madoka came back, she once again asked them her question earlier as she gave them the tea and Lin answered.

"We took an earlier flight." Thank goodness that these two are being civil with each other and not awkward. Oliver may not be the type of person to pry with his friend and mentor's personal life, but he knew they dated for quite some time. Although, due to some issues that he never cared to know, they broke up and continued being friends and co-workers.

"Madoka, what happened to the desk near the kitchen?" Somehow it feels good to speak Japanese again even though he's a bit rusty since he hasn't fully used that language for quite some time. He only spoke a few sentences every now and then.

"Ah, Yasuhara moved to Lin's office while both of you are still not back so that it's not that cramp in here." Lin and Oliver subtly looked at each other when the name Yasuhara was mentioned.

"What about Miss Taniyama?" Lin asked and Madoka physically stiffened at the mention of her name.

"Didn't you know? I submitted her file to BSPR years ago." She asked a bit worried and confused.

"Know what, Madoka?" Oliver was slightly getting impatient.

"Mai quit four months after you left."

It's been two days since Lin and Oliver came back and finally settled in. They managed to get in touch with the Irregulars as they still worked here even after they were gone.

The only one they couldn't find was Mai.

"Mai quit four months after you left."

"What was her reason of quitting? I mean she needed the job and money."

"We had a case that was quite dangerous that targeted Mai. How could you not know about this? I sent a report about this to BSPR as soon as I got her resignation letter."

"What happened to that case?" It pains Oliver to admit it, but he really has not clue about such reports.

"It was the Fujima Manor Case, where the entity was disturbed when the owner lived in there after being abandoned for so many years."

"The manor itself was haunted?" Lin asked, Madoka looked at him obviously confused.

"I can't believe that both of you don't know about this; this is the biggest case the Japan branch had that year. But to answer your question, no, it was the property itself that was haunted. It was traditional home before the previous owner tore it down and built the manor, but it became abandoned when the previous owner moved to the states and died there due to natural cause. With no one to claim the property, it went on sale then was sold to its current owner Fujima Takao."

"How is this case related to Mai?" Oliver asked impatiently, he should ask his father regarding the case to know the details, but as of the moment, he just wanted to know why Mai left.

"The entity that was targeting certain women; unfortunately, it was only Mai that fits the description. Short brown hair and hazel eyes, we only found out about the similarities on our third day. To summarized it, it continued targeting her until Mai ended up in the hospital because one of the company vans exploded while she was near it." Lin and Oliver held their breath while they are listening to Madoka.

"She just had minor burns as her instinct warned her, but the impact of the explosion made her hit her head. She was in coma for almost a month and when she woke up, she practically became paranoid and recluse to everything and everyone. Even Bou-san couldn't sit beside her without flinching, it went on for a while until one morning, she entered the office submitting her resignation. She said she'll come back once she's stable, but it's been four years already."

"Before we go on with our business, I would like to ask if any of you has been in contact with Mai?" Oliver asked once the Irregulars have settled down in the office. Most of them shook their head.

"Mai hasn't properly contacted any of us since she moved out of Shibuya about three years ago, thought she kept us updated from time to time, but we haven't heard from her for months. I don't know if she always kept her phone off or she changed her number because we can't call her." Mon k-san said, and the others agreed.

"Shibuya-san" Everyone's attention is on John as he is reading something on his phone. "Mai is on her way." That is all he said before drinking his tea. Oliver wanted to ask more detail, but the office door opened and a petite, waist length brunette woman entered, Oliver thought that it was customer and was about to ask her to leave as the office was still closed when he heard a familiar sweet voice.

"John, is everything okay?" She looked up from her phone and Oliver immediately saw that innocent doe eyes he hasn't seen in years. She froze for a second before regaining her composure.

"Professor Davis, it's been a while." Mai said so casually that Oliver is almost shocked on how calm she is. Mai and calm never coordinated before, why now?

"Is this the emergency you said? I thought the office was burning to the ground or something."

"Well, I knew that you were in town, but I didn't know if you wanted to join the meeting."

"I see your point, but since I'm here, might as well join." She sat beside John and smile at him as she put her bag down. She was immediately bombarded with questions and she calmly answered them one by one, she was not even fazed.

"Taniyama-san, now that you are here, I would like to know if you would like to work for me again. Your position will be the same as before, if your latent abilities has improved in the past four years, then you may join the investigations." Everyone waited for Mai to think about the offer.

"It's fine but I can't join immediately, I need at least a few weeks before that."

"That is not acceptable, we will start taking in clients tomorrow. Today is just briefing for the employees." Mai nodded, understanding the situation.

"Then I cannot join you, Professor. You have to find someone to be your assistant." She picked up her bag and stood up facing Oliver. "Thank you for offer but I am not in need of a job right now, so I really don't care if you are unwilling to compromise. Good day, Professor Davis."

She faced Lin and gave him a soft smile "It's nice to see you again, Lin-san."

"You as well, Taniyama-san." She walked away and was about to open the door when Oliver spoke.

"Two weeks, that's the maximum time I can give you." She turned around and everyone saw a small smirk on her face,

"I'll see you in two weeks then. Goodbye everyone."

They all just sat there staring at the door after Mai left, and all of them has one thought in their minds.

What happened to their Mai?

NOTE: Just a warning, I only saw the anime. I haven't fully read the manga and other novels (if there is any) so I only have a very small knowledge regarding the original. Any mistakes in references in the future will be my mistake, but please feel free to correct me.
