Heyo all! this is a short from my previous story Fury of Night so if you start with this it may not make much sense. I suggest reading that first, before starting this one. This take place 2 months after the ending of Fury of night. Some people wanted more, and I knew I wasn't quite finished expanding my Story. So for now, this is sort of an extended epilogue. Once again, I hope you all enjoy!
Best regards,
Nighthawk, or you can call me Sign :)
P.S Yes Hiccup knows dragonese now. Toothless has been tutoring him. So to tell the difference, "This is normal Norse", and "This is Dragonese".

"Rush, mind helping me with Storm-fly's food?" Hiccup called to the rushing death as he finished preparing the mushed up fish meat. He had mashed it into a pulp, mixed it with herbs and water to form a mush that could easily be swallowed by Stormfly.
"Of course Hiccup," Rush replied, slithering over.
Hiccup fed her the mixture, and Rush held it in her mouth.
With Toothless's help, Hiccup propped the unconscious dragon's mouth open, and at an angle so the tongue didn't hang in the way of the throat. Rush leaned forward over Stormfly's open mouth, and regurgitated it, straight in the dragon's throat. Toothless closed her mouth and lifted her neck a bit more to encourage swallowing. Once the food had disappeared into her stomach, Toothless and Hiccup laid Stormfly back down on the makeshift nest of grass and fur blankets in the back of the cave. Hiccup had moved his and Toothless's sleeping spot further up in the cave closer to the entrance so Stormfly could rest in peace.
Which is what she had been doing for two months. Stormfly had never woken up since the battle, and since Hiccup had made a vow to take care of her, he had since taken up the duty of caring for her until she woke. They had taken the routine to feed her every three days, at midday. Along with a morning and evening checkup to make sure she was still alive. It was a grey long task, but Hiccup knew it was worth it. And with Rush and Toothless more than ready to help him, he felt the task of caring for her much easier. Her wounds were mostly healed by now, but her wing was still shredded to bits. He had since been working to build her a splint of sorts that would spread across half her wing, acting as a new wing that would allow her to fly again. But different from toothless who just needed a new fin, Stormfly needed half a new wing. While Toothless's fin was used for flying, it only supported him, and only moved a bit past opening and closing. While the wing had multiple joints and limbs, and Hiccup knew he didn't have the materials or capabilities to make a prosthetic that she could control herself plus function properly with as much movement as was needed to move wings and fly. So while Hiccup spent most of his time working on their base or worrying over Stormfly, Toothless was forced to up the job of distracting him so the boy didn't go insane from building anxiety.
I need a break from sketching blueprints of Stormfly's prosthetic, Hiccup thought with a groan. Maybe I can go back to work on my armor instead.
With his next task in mind, Hiccup made his way back to the front of the cave. There was actually a whole separate room for him and Toothless that had been dug out from the main entrance, thanks to Rush. The far side of the cave was where Toothless and Hiccup slept. There was a large, blackened spot. That was where Toothless warmed the ground with his fire to sleep. Normally Hiccup slept there with the large black dragon as well. Toothless would curl his paws and wings around the boy, so he was always warm. There was just a sense of security that Hiccup got when he slept with Toothless. But lately, Hiccup has slept by himself. Or, when he did sleep at night.
As of late Hiccup had been staying up very late to work. Stormfly had struck up a fever a couple days back, so Hiccup had spent nearly all night for the past three days in a row trying to keep her body at a normal temperature and make sure she is alright. Stormfly has since recovered, but Hiccup knew he couldn't rest anymore. He had lost a lot of time caring for her, which Hiccup didn't mind, but it just meant he had more work to catch up on. As soon as Stormfly recovered, he wanted to get moving again. They had been on this island for far too long. Though it was fairly protected, Hiccup still felt exposed. He constantly had a creeping dread they would be found. He tried to keep Toothless away from the beach and play with Rush in the woods by the river, but he knew he could only contain the night fury so much.
He knew Toothless longed to fly, but Hiccup was just too busy. He had armor to finish making, he needed to forge better weapons, make Stormfly's prosthetic, on top of making a new fin for Toothless so the dragon could fly on his own.
Hiccup found his dragon worrying about him a lot, trying to encourage him to go flying, come play with him and Rush, or even just to sleep. But Hiccup pushed the dragon away, sending him off to go spend time with Rush. Hiccup could feel himself becoming more and more irritated by the dragon's prodding to tell him to take a break, but he kept those feelings suppressed. No matter how tired he was, he told himself he would never yell at Toothless. This wasn't his fault
Along the left wall was where Hiccup stored his belongings, and he had built himself a sturdy wooden work table where he could properly work on his projects. The right side of the cave was for Toothless, and it was scattered about with toys Hiccup had made to keep Toothless entertained. Moss balls, bundles of feathers and stuffed leather to look like birds and other animals, half-chewed branches, and other trinkets were all over the floor. Hiccup noticed that the Mouse toy and large stick Toothless used for drawing in the dirt were both gone. He must be practicing drawing it, as Toothless loved practicing drawing the toy animals.
Hiccup had spared some time here and there to watch Toothless draw, and he was surprised how much the dragon had improved. He was still not the best, but Hiccup could see lines were less shaky, and could also make out what Toothless was trying to draw much better. He was quite impressed with how much the nightfury's art had improved.
While Hiccup did want to go out and watch Toothless draw, he had work to do. He pulled his improved armor out of the bag he had them stored in, and set them down on the work table. Since coming back, he had planned on forging a whole new set of armor. Originally he was going to use iron plates layered with scales, but he felt that would be too bulky. So he settled on using a thin and flexible leather. From this he had made a long shirt and pants, that were properly trimmed on the left leg. After finding out how good Toothless's saliva was a glue, he used it to lay the scales down on the leather. He lined scales on the outside of the pants, leaving the inner parts of the pant legs unscaled. It would be uncomfortable for him when he was sitting in the saddle if he had scales covering his bottom and inner legs. But the shirt, he just worked on covering the sleeves, as he would wear the vest. And that was where he was now. He just needed to finish up the right sleeve so he could move onto making the new prosthetic.
Hiccup gave a slight sigh at the thought of his leg, and glanced down to look at his prosthetic. It had already been two months since he lost his leg, and just two days after they arrived back at the island. Since the arrow had been lodged in Hiccup's leg for so long, it had since grown infected by the time Toothless landed. He had tried to save his leg, but ended up having to have Rush sever it carefully using a tail barb. Toothless had held him tightly, as Hiccup had been squirming and screaming in pain during the entire procedure. After the fact, he had made himself a wood and metal prosthetic, not forgetting to properly adjust Toothless's saddle. He changed the left pedal to fit his prosthetic, and it worked surprisingly well. Though Hiccup missed his leg, he was excited by all the ideas he had for prosthetics.
Hiccup shifted his leg and yawned. He shook his head to wake himself back up, and focused his wandering mind back to the task at hand. The shirt lay out in front of him, and he couldn't help but smile at his handiwork. All those years in the forge were at least being put to good use. He reached across the table and grabbed the small clay jar he used to store spare scales. He fished out a few, and began to place them down on the unfinished row he had previously been working on. Once he finished laying the scales, he reached for more and continued laying them out. He was about one more line away from completing the sleeve, and laid down the last scale in his hand. But as he reached for more to finish up, his hand felt nothing but air. He dipped his hand lower in the jar until he felt his fingers brush clay. Alarmed, he grabbed the jar to examine it, and saw it was, in fact, empty.
"I must be out," He muttered, then set the jar back down.
He turned back toward the cave entrance. I'll quickly ask Toothless for some more, He decided, and made his way outside.
It didn't take him long to find the dragon. Toothless was sitting in a clearing that was in the middle of the island, just a minute walk from the cave. The center clearing, or Stick-create-spot, as Toothless affectionately called it, was a good sized round clearing, surrounded by a circle of trees and bushes. The ground was quite flat, and originally was covered in grass but Toothless long since dug all that away. It was now just a bare patch of dirt, that Toothless used to practice his drawings, or Stick-creation in dragonese, as the dragon language didn't have a word for draw. The toy mouse sat at one corner of the patch, and Toothless was seated on the other side, drawing stick in mouth, making lines in the dirt. Hiccup could see the beginnings of a lopsided triangular head, two different sized eyes, and one round ear at the short base of the head. But Hiccup's view wasn't the best; he was looking at it from the wrong angle. He moved around the edge, right behind the line of trees, and stepped into the clearing when he was beside Toothless. Though the dragon didn't notice him, and he was too intensely into trying to draw the second ear. Hiccup leaned over Toothless's shoulder, and quickly examined the drawing. He could see it looked a little better from this angle, but those eyes were really bothering him, more then something so miniscule would have before, which he found quite surprising. He shook the thought away however, and leaned down to the nightfury.
"Right eye is smaller then the left," He remarked to him, which was followed by a sudden wing to the chest, making him stumble back.
Toothless had actually jumped, his wings flaring out in alarm. He hissed in alarm, terrified by Hiccup's sudden presence. Toothless glanced around quickly, looking for his best friend. Hiccup though, had pushed into a bush behind him.
"Over here," Hiccup groaned, barely able to growl out the words as he gasped for breath, Toothless's wing had winded him. But as he lay there, his mind growled at him, You have no right to scare him...
"Oh no! Hiccup are you alright?" Toothless dropped the stick and spun around, growling in concern and shame. "I'm sorry. You just appeared so suddenly… I freaked out. Are you ok?" He crooned, pushing his head into the bush to nuzzle Hiccup.
"Y-yea, just help me up," Hiccup coughed.
Though his growls must have been slurred too much with his panting, as Toothless tipped his head in confusion, replying with, "Huh?"
Hiccup lifted a hand up, and Toothless got the notion. He stepped forward and hooked one forepaw under Hiccup's back. Toothless then hobbled back using his remaining free paws, and pulled Hiccup up out of the bush. The boy sighed and brushed off his red shirt.
"Your dragonese is still quite rough," Toothless remarked, leaning down to sniff Hiccup's prosthetic. "I can barely understand you at times."
"I have only been learning for two moon cycles," Hiccup reminded him, recalling that one moon cycle was one month in Norse.
"True," Toothless hissed in agreement, straightening up to look at his best friend. "So what did you need? Did you come for another Dragonese lesson?"
"Not now," Hiccup replied with a gentle shake of his head. "I need some more scales, if you have shed at all in the past few days. My top-scale-protection-skin is almost done." Hiccup combined various words in dragonese to describe armor. It was something dragons did a lot to describe human things.
"O-of course," Toothless said with a nod and a flick of his wings. "Follow me."
Toothless made his way around his drawing and back into the trees. Hiccup followed close behind. It was mid-day, so the sun shined through the breaks between the thick cover of leaves. Hiccup glanced up at the sky, and took a deep breath. Despite his weariness, he still couldn't help but admire how peaceful it was here. Toothless was always off somewhere having fun, and in general, nice winds blew in the sky which made the flights he did with Toothless all the more fun. He could Toothless liked it too, with him almost always off playing with playing with something. Rush liked it as well due to the rivers that ran through being just large enough for her to be able to fully submerge herself. She and Toothless mostly caught fish from the ocean, as the populace of life in the freshwater was scarce at best. But that wasn't too much of a problem with the fish in the surrounding waters more than making up for the lack of life in the rivers. Hiccup only hoped that when they moved, they could find more islands like this one.
Toothless emerged from the tree line and leaped out onto the beach, sending sand flying up in all directions. Hiccup ducked to avoid the flying sand, and just shook his head.
"I told you to stay away from here," Hiccup reminded him gently. "It's too dangerous."
"Calm down worry-wings," Toothless hissed back in mild amusement. "I was only here early this morning. I was back in the trees before the Day-Orb rose too high."
Hiccup just sighed, and motioned to Toothless to come back. "Alright, good. Just stay here in the trees while I collect the scales," Hiccup replied with a gentle smile, and Toothless headed back with a disgruntled huff.
"You worry too much Hiccup. You should relax. Worry is a parasite, it will eat you alive if you don't squash it. Let's go flying now," Toothless suggested hopefully, wagging his tail and perking his ear panels.
"Sorry, Kin-of-Sky-and-Heart," Hiccup said gingerly, using their word for brother. "I can't now. But I promise I will sleep in the shelter of your wings tonight."
Toothless eased slightly at this, But Hiccup could still see the worry in his eyes. As much as it pained him to see his best friend like this, there was nothing he could do about it now. He needed to finish his armor as soon as possible. Briefly telling his dragon to stay, Hiccup briskly jogged back to the cave to retrieve the jar he used to hold the scales.
He quickly returned and spent the next few minutes digging about the sand finding as many scales as he could. He found a lot actually, and after rubbing each clean of sand, put them in the jar. Soon he had a sufficient amount, and looked at the filled jar with a satisfied smile and headed back over to toothless.
"Thank you," Hiccup said to Toothless. "You can go back to what you were doing now."
"But… What about you?" Toothless hissed as Hiccup departed.
"My armor," Hiccup just replied simply in norse, not even looking back.
"Stop, you need rest! Stop working on your scale skin for now. Take a break," Toothless tried again, following Hiccup.
"Buddy not now," Hiccup just replied, briefly turning to give him a smile, but feeling slightly annoyed. "Just go play ok? I'm alright I promise."
Toothless stopped, and his ear panels fell against his neck in worry. Hiccup nodded and continued his path back up to the cave. He could feel Toothless's eyes following him, before his heavy footsteps slowly trudged off. Hiccup sighed gently and shook his head. His dragon worried too much about him. He needed to start worrying about himself and take some precaution when he went out. At least Rush took some precautions.
Toothless, this isn't a game. We are on the run now, and it's high time you start realizing that, He thought bitterly. But as the thoughts passed his mind, he sped up his pace and growled to himself. Don't blame Toothless, Hiccup. Everything that has happened up to this point is because you shot him down.
And it was in that moment Hiccup realized, he barely thought of taking care of himself anymore. He spent all his time doting over his nightfury, trying to keep him safe. He was only making the armor so Hiccup Toothless would stop worrying about him. He was the only one with the right to worry. Toothless relied on him, so Hiccup couldn't let himself falter to anything. The quicker he finished the armor, the quicker he could move Toothless back to the center of attention, where he should always be.
Hiccup pushed his worries aside for now, and decided to focus on finishing the armor for now. It wasn't long until he arrived back at the cave. He told himself he will finish by the time night rolls around, because he promised Toothless he would sleep with him. And the last thing Hiccup wanted was to see Toothless sad. Toothless would never be sad if he could help it.
Hiccup figured he should hurry then, and set the jar down on the work table and fished some scales out to continue setting them in the leather.
The hours passed by quickly, and before he knew it, he heard The heavy thump of footsteps and saw Toothless shove his head onto the table and block Hiccup from working. Hiccup backed up in sudden alarm, but exhaled softly when he saw it was just Toothless.
"Time to sleep," Toothless purred.
"Just let me finish up with the prosthetic base?" Hiccup asked. He had finished the shirt a bit earlier and had since begun to start carving out the wood prosthetic base. He was almost done and really wanted to just be done with this.
But Toothless shook his head and grabbed the knife from Hiccup's hand and dropped it on the table. "No. You worked all day. Your false-limb will still be here tomorrow."
"Alright, deals a deal," Hiccup mused. "I never win when against you will I?"
"Likely not!" Toothless replied, gurgling in laughter.
Hiccup followed Toothless back to their sleeping spot. He waited while Toothless laid down and rolled to his side. The nightfury lifted his wings and opened his arms, inviting Hiccup to lay with him. He nodded and leaned down, crouching toward Toothless's paws. As soon as his tunic brushed against Toothless's claws, Toothless lurched his claws forward and grabbed him, pulling him in close. Hiccup just yelped as he was jerked forward and enveloped in a cocoon of cozy darkness. Toothless poked his muzzle through his wings and nuzzled Hiccup's mess of auburn hair. Hiccup snuggled closer to Toothless's scales and felt the arms wrap around him hold him just a bit tighter. For the first time in days, he was able to set aside his worries and just focus on that only thing that he found worth living for anymore.
