Sup guys? Lighting Wolf here, back with another story, this one about Valkyria Chronicles. Enjoy the 800-word chapter. I don't own VK, Sega, Ryutaro Nonaka and Shuntaro Tanaka do.

In war? There were always wayward soldiers who wanted nothing more than to fight for money. People looked down on them, but very few considered neglecting them.

However? Young Gabriel didn't know that his parents were mercenaries, nor that they were seen as expendable in the Gallian armed forces.

But they didn't care, all that mattered was their son. Their lives were nameless, poor, and downtrodden. It made them question why they didn't flee the farm that they were stuck around.

Young Gabriel cooed from his crib as his mother and father looked at each other. They were quite hopeful that he wouldn't be wrapped up in the war that would come down the road. Still? Both knew their lives would be brought low. There was far more at stake than them, however.

"You know they're going to kill us…" Gabriel's mother put in as she brushed off her stained dress. "They wouldn't want to leave any evidence behind." Gabriel's mother added while she sighed and then turned to her husband.

Gabriel knew for a fact that people from Gallia would come to silence them. Mercenaries weren't going to be written in the rest of the military history. They were flies, insects that were treated as bad as units outside of the military hierarchy.

"Let them come, we came here for a better life." Gabriel's father put in as he turned to the side. "If something bad happens? I know someone who would take care of Gabriel… If something happens to us." Gabriel's father said before he ran a hair through his black hair.

He knew for a fact that someone would come to silence them. However? He also knew someone would gladly take their son in as they had taken in a daughter of their own.

Gabriel cooed once more and playfully reached for his parents, not knowing what was going on… And not caring at all what was going to happen next. There was nothing going through the head of the small child but how much he enjoyed time around his parents. What child wouldn't?

His parents turned to look at the child with such quite love and care. They had toiled through life wondering what would happen next. Both enjoyed life as much possible when it came down to it.

Their child was what came first. Both gladly loved each other, but both knew their child came before them.

There was a knock on the door which both knew was coming. Gabriel's father turned to his wife with a hum.

"Go, I'll keep them busy." Gabriel heard and started to cry, as if he knew what was coming.

He could tell his father was going to die. And like any child? He was scared, Gabriel didn't want his father to leave him, nor his mother.

But that option was taken away from him. He wouldn't know it was Gallia that had done so.

The sound of gunshots turned the peaceful home into a bloodbath as Gabriel's mother turned and fled with her child.

Gabriel let out several cries that his mother tried to sooth. The Gallian soldiers broke down the door and continued shooting while Gabriel watched his father start shooting at them with a concealed handgun that he kept on his person in case of emergency.

Or something like this. When you were a gun for hire? You learned to expect things even if you didn't like them.

Gabriel watched one of the soldier's collapse, his eyes were glued to the spectacle of carnage in front of him. If it was something that could be prevented? His mother would have kept it from his eyes as much as possible… But it wasn't something that could be altered.

Gabriel turned back to his mother as the sound of gunshots ramped up. The sounds of screams were continuing to echo through the room once more. Something horrid was happening today.

He buried his head once more into his mother's shoulders, scared and once more oblivious to the tragedy that would define his life until then.

There would be a light part soon enough, but hopefully it would come even sooner.

He would be the monster, second only to the grim reaper who he would be close to.

Phew. Another chapter done! I want to point out that next chapter will be in 2-6 months and will show more about Gabriel and such. Next chapter will show Gabriel meeting Riela and such. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
