Dean was at the table doing research for the case he and Sam were currently on. Cas was on a break from hunting after his first hunt did not go so well... By the time they were finally done, he was exhausted. The boys put Cas in time-out with Kevin to watch him for a few days while they worked easy cases. Sam had said there was supposedly a ghost at a carnival nearby and had gone to check it out.
"Well, that was a bust…" He said as he walked through the door. Dean looked up from his book and smiled. Sam was holding his laptop in one hand and cotton candy in the other. Sam passed the cotton candy to his brother and said,
"Here you go Dean, I know how much you love this crap," Dean mumbled a thanks then shoved some into his mouth. Sam grabbed a book and sat at the table with his brother.
"What is that, Dean?" Castiel yawned as he and Kevin walked into the map room. Both boys looked up and Dean gave Cas an incredulous look.
"It's called cotton candy," Sam said before Dean could think of a remark. Cas thought he heard Sam, Dean, and other humans talk about candy and sweets… He'd never actually tried any since he became human so he was curious. It must have shown on his face because Dean looked from Cas to Sam to Kev with disbelief.
"Wait- Cas, have you ever had cotton candy? Or- or any candy for that matter?" Dean sputtered out, "What else haven't you eaten? What, next time you tell me you've never had pie?" Kevin chuckled at the outburst. He sat down in one of the chairs.
"I don't understand why you're so surprised, Dean. I just became human, after all." Castiel replied calmly as he flopped down in the chair between the brothers. Dean shook his head and handed Cas the cotton candy silently and gestured for him to try it. The three sat in anticipation as Cas brought the fluffy pink cloud to his mouth.
"Mmmmmm… This is exceptional!" Cas mumbled while still chewing, "It certainly has a very unique texture, very sugary… Mmmm!" He took a few more bites and handed it back to Dean. Cas looked at his "audience", who were all beaming huge smiles at him. The three shared a look and before Cas could say anything, Sam, Dean, and Kevin got up to get their coats.
"Wha-"
"Cmon Cas, we're going on a candy trip!" Dean interrupted, handing Cas his trench coat. He shrugged and put it on.
In the Impala Cas looked out the window, thinking about the cotton candy and how strange it had tasted. How could something so fragile and fluffy be so absolutely delicious? Dean had told him there were thousands of different types of candy. Castiel was pretty sure a certain archangel he knew had invented it in the 16th century. In the front, Sam and Dean were bickering over which candy was the best and which they should have Cas try first. They ended up buying 70 bucks worth of different candies. They got back to the bunker and by the end of the day, they all were rolling on the floor laughing while trying everything… The scene was hilarious, like a group of kids after Trick or Treating. Castiel's favorite was the old-fashioned sour lime hard candy. It was a simple favorite, but it just reminded him of someone… (END)
