When Harvey suggested to take her to the movies for their weekly date, Donna thought he was kidding. Not that she was going to say no, of course she'd go on a date with him, but it wasn't the kind of night out she would've expected, not with Harvey at least.
"Aren't we too old for that?"
"Do you really think we're old after that?" He replied, smugly pointing at the still unmade bed with his head.
So she said yes. She left the firm earlier that day to change into a more appropriate outfit for their date, even though she had no idea what a woman like her usually wore in that kind of situation - it had been years since the last time she did this, and met Harvey outside her building, who had also changed into casual clothes.
Donna had no expectations of that night but Harvey looked so excited on their way to the movie theater that it cheered her up and she even let him choose the film. He seemed to do it randomly, because it turned out to be the most stereotyped romcom they'd ever watched, or at least that's what they told themselves when they started to make out as some horny teenagers twenty minutes into the movie, only to almost get caught by a real young couple before things got out of control.
The street was even more crowded with people and traffic afterwards. Donna sensed Harvey's face falling a little when he unsuccessfully tried to catch a cab, so she grabbed his arm and made him sit down by her side on a street bench, silently offering him to finish her popcorn bucket with her. They started to talk about the film, but somehow the subject of the conversation changed to a more personal one and Harvey ended up confessing all the times he'd dreamed of her over the years, right there, in the middle of a chaotic avenue on a weekend night in the city that never sleeps.
That's the first thing that comes to her mind this morning when she wakes up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the sounds of her man moving around the kitchen. She wonders if this is what Harvey felt in his dream after Jessica left the firm some years ago - the domesticity, this level of intimacy never felt before with anyone else. Things she would never expect Harvey to dream about, at all.
That must be why she can't stop thinking about it, not even when Harvey greets her with the warmest smile as she gets out of the bedroom. She thanks him for the cup of coffee he places in her hands with a quick peck and leans against the kitchen counter to get a better view of him preparing something in the pan.
"You know, I've been thinking about one of those dreams you told me about last night," she waits for his hum to continue, "that kiss you'd give me after I brought you coffee, when Jessica left?"
"What about it?"
"Well, you described it as a soft one." Harvey doesn't say anything, his eyes still focused on the bacon sizzling in the pan. "I'd like to taste it myself."
He looks back at her then, his eyebrows up in a mix of surprise and amusement. "Oh, really?"
Donna nods and presses her lips together, matching his mischievous expression. Harvey takes a few steps in her direction until he's right in front of her and grabs her cup, only to leave it on the counter beside her. She's about to laugh at his solemnity when he raises his hand and tugs a strand of red hair behind her ear with such a tenderness it makes her heart skip a beat.
Harvey looks back at her with a boyish but confident smile and leans down, catching her bottom lip between his in, indeed, the softest kiss she has ever experienced. His other hand comes to rest in the crook of her neck as he releases her lip briefly, and if she thought she was going to melt with that look in his face before the kiss, she feels her limbs trembling and a thousand of butterflies violently beating their wings inside her stomach when Harvey opens slightly his mouth against her, making room for himself, before closing the gap between them again.
Donna doesn't know anymore if she's following the kiss or just letting him do whatever he wants to. Maybe that's why it takes her a few seconds to notice his absence, opening her eyes as soon as she does with her mouth still half opened. She tries to disguise how affected she is but he's already showing his well-known smug face.
"You're an idiot," she states, pressing her forehead against his shoulder. Harvey laughs quietly and holds her closer to him, leaving a quick kiss in the crown of her head. Donna follows him before drawing apart and adding, "I want some more."
"You do, huh?" Harvey reaches over to turn off the cooktop and resumes his previous position to kiss her again, but this time Donna is ready and kisses him back, matching his gentleness in every move.
At some point, she sticks her tongue out to lick Harvey's lips before tugging at his bottom one, making him hum in appreciation. She's not trying to elicit any specific reaction for his part, and she doesn't get it, because all he does is enjoy her ministrations before taking advantage of her gasp to delicately slide his tongue inside her mouth.
Harvey realizes he has lost track of time when he feels Donna's hands caressing his back before finally closing her arms around him. This is probably the first time he makes out with someone with no further intentions. No neck sucking, no ass grabbing, no hands travelling south, just… kissing. Their tongues are not battling for dominance, they're just dancing at their own lazy, relaxed rhythm, only interrupted when they break their connection shortly to take a breath before continuing unhurriedly.
Harvey discovers he loves this, and it doesn't surprise him at all.
Eventually they separate, sharing a blissful smile before Harvey starts to fill her face with light kisses, leaving no inch of skin untouched by him. She giggles and whispers in a teasing tone, "I bet you had a great time with the Donna of your dreams."
"I prefer the real one." He gives her a final peck on her lips and steps back to turn on the cooktop again.
She grins broadly while taking the last sip of coffee, now cold as ice, and, as she passes by him on her way to the sink, she taps his ass playfully and says, "By the way, I'm still a better kisser than you."
