Betrayal
This was the only chance he'd get and Danzo knew it!
Tsunade was off to the capital of the Land of Rivers, Takumi, to meet with the Suna representatives with Kakashi, Guy, and a couple of other jonin in tow. The only person that was in the village to still protect the jinchuuriki was Jiraiya.
There had never been a more appropriate time to use his teammate's descendant's Mangekyou Sharingan. This was the perfect chance to bring Konoha's jinchuuriki under his control.
And so, with a confident stride, the commander of ROOT made his way towards the training ground that his agents had told him the jinchuuriki and the Sannin were in. Danzo only had about a week to make his plan work. If this didn't work, he knew for certain that he'd be executed for high treason.
But if it did...
A slow smile spread across his wrinkled face as the endless possibilities for power ran through his mind. Yes... This would lead to Konoha becoming the top military superpower. He was sure of it.
...
Jiraiya's attention focused wholly on his surroundings as he felt a familiar chakra approaching his and Naruto's position.
"Naruto, come here," he called out to his pupil.
The blond lifted his head as he panted. The chakra control training that his sensei was making him go through was boring but tiring. "What? Why?" he questioned from on top of the water as his clones paused their spars.
"Just come here! I don't have time to explain it," Jiraiya said again, this time sounding more serious.
Naruto scrunched his face up thoughtfully but followed the orders nonetheless. He'd never seen Jiraiya so serious. Not even against their fight with Kisame and Itachi.
"Yeah, what is it?" Naruto asked, coming to a stop beside the old man.
"Someone's coming. When we talk, don't say a word," Jiraiya warned, and before Naruto could say anything else, an old man in a white shirt covered with a dark robe came out of the bushes and walked towards them. The cane that he held in the left hand seemed to clack, even if he was walking on grass. The shaggy hair and bandages that covered his head and right eye made him look frail and weak, but Naruto could tell there was something off about him.
"Danzo," Jiraiya said as he crossed his arms. "What an unpleasant surprise."
"I come in peace, Jiraiya," the old man, now known as Danzo, replied as he walked towards the student-teacher duo. "I only wanted to share some new information about Orochimaru that some of my... Friends obtained," he said.
Jiraiya narrowed his eyes slightly but his interest was definitely piqued. "Friends, eh?" the Sannin said with a raised eyebrow. He knew Danzo was talking about his ROOT shinobi, but as long as they weren't operating inside Konoha or the Land of Fire, he didn't mind it. "Naruto, you can go back and keep practicing," Jiraiya said to his student, sending him off with a wave.
Naruto scowled and turned around, muttering something about 'perverted sensei wasting his time'.
"So? What's the new information?" Jiraiya asked the old power-hungry geezer.
"I have it written down in this piece of paper. We believe Orochimaru's main base is an underground facility beneath a small village in the Land of Rice Paddies," Danzo said while leaning his cane on his side and reaching up towards his bandages. As his fingers touched the bandages, Danzo swiftly pulled them open and stared at Jiraiya in the eyes. "Kotoamatsukami!" he said, pouring chakra into his right eye.
Jiraiya's eyes widened for a split second in realization before they glazed over.
A red spot slowly spread across Danzo's bandages from below his eye as he tied them back up. "You will allow me to do whatever I want with the jinchuuriki and also help me, should I require your assistance. You will also work as an agent for me and pledge your loyalty to me only. Do you understand?" he gave his orders.
Jiraiya straightened back up as his eyes gained their previous light. "I understand. Just let me know when you need me," he said, following Danzo's orders.
The old warhawk allowed himself a small smile as his plan worked flawlessly. Now, to finally create a jinchuuriki that could be actually trained and used as a weapon for the great tree.
...
"Mmm," Naruto groaned as his eyes fluttered open. He wondered when he had fallen asleep, but couldn't recall anything after Jiraiya telling him to go back to his training.
He tried to bring his hand to his face to rub the sleep out of his eyes, but the clanking of metal that restricted his movement woke him up faster than ever.
"Mmph!" he tried to yell, but even that wasn't possible with the thick cloth on his mouth. The blond tried to trash about a little more, only to find all his appendages restrained.
I've been kidnapped! The Akatsuki got me! The thought ran through his mind. Fear and hopelessness started gnawing on him as he realized that if they got him, then that meant that they even beat Jiraiya. And with Baa-chan and Kakashi-sensei absent, it might take days for them to come to rescue him.
Just as he was about to try moving around some more, the sound of a door opening pierced the silence of the room.
"It seems he's woken up," a familiar voice said and Naruto almost felt happy. Almost, because it didn't sound like the voice was here to rescue him. Jiraiya walked into his field of vision and Naruto nearly shed some tears at how cold and unloving his sensei's eyes looked.
Was this what betrayal felt like? Was this how Sasuke must have felt when his brother murdered his whole clan?
"Yes. Let us get started with the extraction process." The second voice sounded like the old man that he had met earlier. And as expected, Danzo also walked further in to inspect the blond that was gagged and bound to the medical operating table. "What will happen to him after we extract the Beast?" Danzo asked.
"Well, normally, the jinchuuriki would die immediately, but since this one's an Uzumaki, we do not know for sure," Jiraiya answered. This Naruto did shed a tear as he heard how Jiraiya talked about him as if he was just a tool. "Reports say that when it was extracted from his mother, she stayed alive for quite a while. Hell, it wasn't even the cause for her death. That's how strong her Uzumaki blood was," the Sannin continued.
Naruto's eyes widened as Jiraiya's words were processed by his brain. His... Mother? Wait, what!? They knew his mother!? And she had the Kyuubi extracted for her? Which meant that she was also a jinchuuriki like Naruto! And his last name, Uzumaki, wasn't given to him randomly! It was his family name! Naruto would've smiled and cried tears of joy if the situation wasn't so dire at the moment.
"Sensei wrote in the reports that allegedly, when the Kyuubi broke free, Kushina and Minato fought it until Minato was able to seal it back into his son," Jiraiya continued, summarizing the report for Danzo since he knew Danzo didn't know what had really happened that night.
Only seven people in the world knew the truth. Jiraiya, Shikaku, Tsunade – now that she was the Hokage, the Daimyo of the Land of Fire, and the two ANBU that were with Hiruzen when the bodies of Minato and Kushina were collected, along with Naruto.
Meanwhile, Naruto's mind was racing, trying to put the pieces together. Jiraiya had said 'Minato was able to seal it back into his son'. The Kyuubi was sealed inside of Naruto right now, which meant that the person who sealed it in him was his father! His father's name was Minato! His mother's name was Kushina! He finally knew his parents' names after all these years! Even though he was probably going to die here, Naruto couldn't help but allow a tiny smile under the thick cloth that was over his mouth.
"So, assuming that this one carries that potent Uzumaki blood," Jiraiya continued, breaking Naruto's line of thought. "He will probably survive the extraction. But then again, his father wasn't an Uzumaki, so it's a safe bet to say that he will be killed because of the process."
Naruto clenched his eyes shut. Why him? What had he done in his past lives to deserve this!? However, he still couldn't focus on his dire predicament fully. Naruto couldn't help but feel like something was amiss. Something big...
"I see," Danzo replied. Naruto shifted his eyes to the old man and shivered as the warhawk's gaze pierced his soul. "Is it possible to transfer only part of the Beast's chakra?" he asked Jiraiya.
The Sannin rubbed his chin casually as he thought about it. "It is possible. I've heard of people possessing only a part of a Bijuu's chakra," he said.
"If we extract all of it, we will lose the jinchuuriki right here, right now, which will also give away a lot of evidence in case an investigation into its death is opened," Danzo said. This was a problem for him, but surprisingly, he allowed himself a small smile. "But if we were to extract all but a little bit of its chakra, and then take him outside of the village and kill him, even an investigation will find nothing amiss. A jinchuuriki who got killed on a mission gone wrong. The Bijuu 'disappears' while we make the death look like it happened due to a battle," Danzo explained his plan.
"Hmm," Jiraiya grunted as Naruto felt the pit in his stomach grow larger. "That could work."
This is it, thought Naruto. A shitty life, coming to a shitty end.
New idea. I might continue this depending on the number of favs, follow, and how the reviews look.
