With all of his things laid out before him, fourteen year old Micheal Mathews grinned. "Okay! Let's see, Nintendo DS check! Earbuds check! Charger check! Weird DS games I recently bought check! Pajamas check! toothbrush check! And finally snacks that are illegal in Dave's household check!"
"Micheal, are you ready dear?" His mom's voice brought him out of his thoughts.
"Yeah, mom!" He called back. "Just give me a sec!"
Putting everything away in his school bag, he eagerly put it on and went over to his mom. Today was the day he was going over to his friend's house for a sleepover. His friend, Dave, had a really strict grandmother. It was incredible she even let the two of them hang out. So Micheal needed to go right now before she changed her mind which she was prone to doing.
His little sister, Abby, was with his mom when he ran up to them. While his mom had blonde hair and blue eyes, his little sister had dark brown hair, freckles dotting her face and hazel eyes. He also looked completely different from them. His light gray hair almost looked white and his mean looking eyes were an unusually bright purple. His ears were also slightly pointed, almost looking like elf ears which Abby loved to point out.
"Elffy!" She let out a cheer when she saw him. Micheal beamed at his little sister, stretching his arms out for a hug which she gladly accepted. 'Elffy' was a nickname she began to use for him ever since she became obsessed with elfs.
Micheal didn't mind the nickname, despite it being potentially embarrassing for most people. "Hey, how's my favorite little sister?"
"I'm your only sister!" Abby declared, puffing out her chest in pride. Micheal ginned at this, "and you know it." He began to tickle her belly, causing her to let out tiny adorable giggles. "Watch out, the monsters coming!" He let out a pseudo roar, Abby letting out shriek as he began to relentlessly tickle her belly.
Their mother watching their interaction, smiled. "C'mon you two, or we're going to be late."
Pausing their tussle, the two siblings smiled warmly at her. "Kay!" They both shouted at the same time, racing to the car in a fit of laughter.
"Victory!" Micheal shouted, striking a pose. He was the first one in the car, sitting on the front seat with his backpack on the floor and seat belt buckled in. Abby was struggling with hers, having to get help from their mom.
"No fair you always win." She pouted. Micheal smirked, "I know you'll be able to win next time, Abby."
With her pout gone, Abby beamed at him. "Thanks, Elffy."
The rest of the ride was filled with lighthearted conversations.
"Bye mom, bye Abby!" He waved at his mother and sister from his friends driveway. His mom gave him a small wave, while Abby waved both her arms rather enthusiastically. As he strolled up to the door and was about to ring the doorbell, a strange voice filled his ears.
"Protect them."
...what?
Had his mom just spoken to him? He turned back but his mom had already driven off. Made sense considering that they had to go and pick up dad from work. "Must be imagining things, then."
Just as he pressed the doorbell, strange images began to fill his glitched out, like something from a video game.
A woman, with long silver hair and dull purple eyes, had a hand reached out towards him. A man, with thinning black hair and haunted brown eyes also seemed to be reaching out towards him.
When Micheal blinked, these people were gone. He rubbed at his eyes and the images didn't appear again, was he going crazy? First a voice and now this?
The sound of a curtain being drawn gained his attention, looking to the left he was met with the stern gaze of Dave's grandmother. The window slid open then, classical music from inside filling his ears. "Good evening Ms. Jennings!" He greeted the elderly woman with a shining smile on his face, undeterred by her stern gaze.
"Good evening, brat. I suppose you want to come inside, then?"
"Ah, still calling me that when my moms not around?" Micheal asked sheepishly, running a hand through his hair.
The woman grunted but left to go open the door. Thanking her, he found himself in his friend's house. Or… so he thought. He blinked and instead of being met with familiar walls and furniture he found himself on a busy street?
Noticing that there seemed to be demigods as well as humans, his mind succumbed to confusion. Where was he?!

Taking a deep breath he closed his eyes, upon exhaling he blinked them open again. Nothing had changed. The strange blue box was still there too. Why was this happening? Had his life suddenly become a video game? How? Why?
He took a deep breath, after all, there was only one way to find out. "Status."
A few passerby shot him weird looks but he paid no mind to them, busy focusing on the weird blue screen.

He gulped staring at the screen. Jeez, this really was happening, huh. Those question marks scared him. Even if he said no, something bad was bound to happen.
He had no choice. He was being forced to play this sick game, a game he found himself not enjoying so far. And he normally liked video games.
Why was he brought here? Who brought him here? Where was he?
Letting out a sigh, he accepted all three quests. After all, that was the sure fire way to get back home.
