This is the offering to Kadam Week 2016 prompt 6: TGIF (Thank God It's Friday)
Kurt couldn't believe it, it was finally the end of the week, and then two blissful days in which there was peace and nothing to worry about.
It was friday and it meant the last day of classes...
It also meant double period dance in the morning and stage combat practice in the afternoon...
So it was sort of a double edge victory, a lot of work to do earlier in the day, but also something fun and exciting to look for in the afternoon...
But like any friday he and Adam had an adventure waiting for them, and Kurt couldn't be more excited about it.
An adventure that would start right after he got out of the shower and changed into comfortable clothes.
And more importantly comfortable converse shoes and matching backpack.
Both the proud bounty of their first adventure together.
It shouldn't have surprised Kurt as much as it did to discover that Adam actually loved to get lost.
Walking for hours without no precise destination, simply glad and happy to take in all the details of living in the city.
Finding hidden gems and enjoying all the surprises he could find along the way.
Kurt could still remember how it all began, and like every time he thought back to that day a smile appeared on his face.
Once Adam had discovered Kurt had been in New York for almost a year, and barely knew more than his way to and from his usual haunting grounds, he had been shocked to say the least...
In fact it was one of the few times Adam had stopped and openly gaped at Kurt.
Then with the most solemn expression Kurt had ever seen on Adam's face, he offered his hand and said "We need to take you out on one of my friday's adventures. Oh, I'm serious as soon as classes are over you and I are going to get ourselves lost and discover something new together. I will accept a refusal only for unavoidable previous commitments or the demands of the day job that keeps you fed and with a roof above your head."
Kurt had smiled and accepted the offered hand to followed Adam into the unknown...
Only to solely regret his chosen outfit once they were an hour into the adventure, and walking in a part of town Kurt had never been before.
They were what felt like miles away from any subway's station that would bring them back to the hustle bustle of more familiar places.
On that first adventure only pride kept Kurt from starting to cry once they almost reached the second hour of wandering.
Adam had luckily slowed down his exciting pace early on, but it was still pretty torturous, those boots were not meant for such mileage, even less so because they were still squeaky new…
When Adam suggested stopping for a moment at a small green spot with a blessed bench, Kurt had been so grateful that his sigh of relief must have been more audible than he tried to keep it. And he gathered that much mostly because Adam looked even more worried "Kurt is there something wrong? Was the pace too fast? Is there something I could do to make it better?"
Adam looked so concerned that Kurt blushed feeling rather foolish, looked down biting his lips "It's stupid, I didn't think about it when I accepted, I confess I didn't realise there would have been this much walking involved"
Adam blinked confused looking at Kurt stretching his feet now that he wasn't standing on them "Did you sprained your ankle? I'm sorry I didn't notice, you seemed fine…"
Kurt shook his head, "No no not that, it's just those boots are new, usually it takes few days to break them in, but I didn't have the chance yet... And well as I said this is a little more walking than I was expecting."
Adam looked around and pointing on their left he said "There should be a trifle store over there, if you want we could see if they have something cheap and more comfortable at least to finish today without destroying your feet?"
Kurt looked up torn between being grateful and being appaled...
He knew he was being a little snobbish, but shoes were so intimate, and well there were a lot of people walking in them without socks...
The thought of entering such shoes was revolting and disturbing...
On the other hand, the whole problem he had was because of shiny new shoes... The thought of slipping into comfortable already broken in shoes and to hell with fashion was starting to look rather appealing... Despite still feeling like blasphemy.
He nodded his consent despite the conflicting emotions warring inside his mind.
"That'd be wonderful if you don't mind the unplanned stop?"
Kurt smiled tentatively and Adam gifted him a brilliant smile and stated surely "It's a friday's adventure, there is no real plan... Well no, there is a tentative plan of having fun spending time together, talk and maybe if we both want to, stop and eat somewhere new and then go home..."
Kurt chuckled "Well it does sound like a plan albeit a vague one, I'll concede you that much."
Adam snorted and jumped off the bench once more offering his hand "Come on let's go, the thrift store is not going to come to us, we need to get there"
Kurt groaned and wrinkled his nose before playfully whine, "Two more minutes..."
Adam grinned and came crowding Kurt, he put his hands on the bench right next to Kurt's shoulders, practically trapping Kurt there and whispered into Kurt's ear "We could wait, or I could pick you up and carry you there…"
Kurt closed his eyes and whimpered quietly "Ohhh that sounds so good right now..."
Adam suddenly backed away and Kurt pouted already missing the closeness.
Kurt completely missed the mischievous glint in Adam's eyes as he grinned and said "In that case what you'd prefer piggy ride or should I pick you up bridal style?"
Kurt laughed and raised both his arms and his legs, thinking that Adam was just joking.
Apparently not offering a negative answer was all it took for Adam's grin to widen. Adam put one arm around Kurt's back, and as Kurt was still chuckling he put his other and under Kurt's knees.
Without much apparent effort Adam straightened up lifting Kurt from the bench, Kurt yelped and tightened his arms reflexively around Adam's neck "Wait I didn't think you were serious..."
Adam leaned forward with his face so that the tip of their noses rubbed together "Oh I am serious, I want our adventure to continue beyond this park. If the way to make it happen is carrying you around then so be it. It's not like I mind at all having you in my arms"
Kurt chuckled and closed the distance between them in a playful kiss before licking his lips smiling "Hmm, ok I can get down how I'm good to go..."
Adam's eyes were crinkled with happiness "So mom's was right and a magic kiss can cure everything including sore feet?"
Kurt blushed as he called back "Only if it comes from the right person"
Adam's smile softened, and a hint of vulnerability tinted his voice as he asked barely audible "Am I?"
Kurt took the two steps back he needed to return standing exactly in Adam's personal space.
He placed a small peck on Adam's lips then after wrapping his arms around Adam's waist pressing himself close "I know you are for me, I hope I am for you as well, and now kind ser I think you promised me to undertake a quest searching for new faithful and kinder companions for my poor feet..."
That got a smile out of Adam and they resumed walking slowly in the direction where they found a rather small second hand store.
The shop didn't have a huge assortment but there were clothes and shoes.
Finding out a sign stating that the shop's policy was to clean and sterilise all garments and shoes before selling them.
It did make Kurt take a grateful breath he wasn't aware he had been holding.
Adam just squeezed his hand and started looking around on his own.
Kurt stared at a pair of converse that looked like they had passed through Pollock's workshop.
He tried hard to search for something that would be more in line with his other clothes, but the more he tried to walk away, the less sense it made leave them there, those were exactly what he searched, his size and comfortable…
And wasn't he the one saying since forever that fashion had no boundaries?
That he needed to be bold and confident in his bold choices, the same one that landed him a job at …
And wasn't this supposed to be an adventure?
He picked them up again and checked again that indeed they were the correct size.
When he turned around to search for Adam, he was standing there with a backpack that looked a set match for the shoes "Darling look what I've found"
Kurt raised an eyebrow and asked surprised "It looks good but why a backpack?"
Adam grinned before shrugging "I liked it, and I thought if you weren't interested I might till get it. Plus it seemed a more comfortable way to take your current shoes home… It does have the advantage of leaving your hands free…"
Kurt looked with a speculative smile before he said teasingly "Free to be hold… I like that."
Converse on his feet, backpack on his shoulder and a smile on his face Kurt meet the starting of a new adventure hand in hand with Adam.
