The meeting was dragging on and on, Chrollo was discussing with everyone the broad plan for their next big heist. Basically, it was a bank robbery, but not just any bank, this bank was created simply to hold one person's money, one of the richest men in the world. So really, it was just plain robbery, and it wasn't something Machi and the group couldn't handle. Granted, there would be lots of security, some of the top hunters are employed to protect it and there are traps set all throughout the 20-mile parameter. Chrollo just wanted everyone to be prepared, and to help do research on what we could expect, but Machi's head was somewhere else.
I must make this appointment. She thought. I hope this meeting doesn't go over his original time limit.
Machi tried her hardest to focus and take notes, but her eyes kept flicking to her watch and every ten minutes felt made her feel more helpless. She could probably reschedule, but this was a time sensitive issue. As she focused her attention back to the meeting, her eyes got locked with Hisoka's. He was staring at her, grinning his Cheshire cat grin, clearly able to sense her agitation. If there was anyone she didn't want prying into her business it was him, but she knew he would pester her the second everyone was dismissed.
She drew her eyes away and continued to partially listen to Chrollo and partially plan her next move if she missed her appointment. Thankfully, it was only another seven minutes later that Chrollo ended his talk and said he would meet with everyone in two weeks to go over further details.
Machi stood and walked straight for the door, she waved casually goodbye to anyone that looked at her curiously, attempting to act nonchalant. She had made it half way down the street when she sensed his aura. He wasn't completely trying to hide it, and it didn't seem to be getting closer, but she knew he would follow her until he found where she was going. Machi sighed, knowing she was going to be late if she stopped to argue with him, and that it probably didn't matter.
Machi entered the hospital, checked in at the electrical check in screen, before making her way to the waiting area. She sat in a chair next to the table of magazines, just across from the main floor receptionist. She grabbed a random magazine and began flipping through it, looking to see if there were any interesting stories. She continued this, even once Hisoka had taken his seat next to her, trying her best to ignore and bore him.
"The hospital, huh? Not what I was expecting at all." He said coyly.
Machi flipped to another page, pretending that she was reading, but really, she was just focused on not giving him any satisfaction. Hisoka was still smiling lightly, enjoying the slightly awkward situation, it stimulated him.
"Did you go and hurt yourself, Machi? Will you need me to take care of you, tonight?" he purred happily.
"No. It's a simple procedure, nothing to worry about." Machi said in monotone.
"Procedure, eh? Getting something cut off?" Hisoka teased.
Machi shrugged her shoulders, acting as though she was interested in the article Keto Diet Chaos. Hisoka smirked and entertained himself with thoughts of what she could be here for. He scanned the room taking note of what different categories of care they provided here. Obviously, there was Pediatric and Geriatric, but also Oncology, Orthopedics, Maternity and Internal Medicine were displayed on signs with their respective floor numbers.
"Do you have cancer or something?" he guessed, not appearing at all concerned.
Machi didn't respond in anyway, her body stayed still, even her eyes didn't react, and her breathing stayed even. Hisoka grinned more, impressed by her control, and figuring that must not have been it. Before he could guess again the receptionist's phones rang loudly before she answered it. She didn't even say any kind of greeting before hanging it up and calling out Machi's name, saying the doctor was reading.
Machi stood and headed towards the elevators, with Hisoka in tow. She continued to ignore him, at this point he wasn't going to figure anything out and she would be better by tonight. She hit the upwards arrow and waited patiently for the doors to open.
"So, where are we going?" Hisoka smiled wide as he stepped in with her.
"Why are you coming?"
"Well, what if you need help getting home? I don't know what you are here for, but it must be something big for you to keep it a secret from me." He explained.
Machi signed and pressed the 5th floor button, making Hisoka's eyes widen and his smile fall to a flat line. From what he had seen in the main waiting area, the 5th floor was where they put the Maternity ward. Hisoka turned his head to look at Machi, who was staring straight ahead and looked determined, but also a little nervous.
"Is it mine?" he asked outright.
Machi sighed, "Who else?"
Hisoka was silent for a moment, taking in the situation and Machi's secretive reaction to it all. Hisoka and her were not involved romantically in any way, he just managed to get her into bed occasionally. Lately, it had been more common and he had not been complaining. While he frustrated Machi to no end, he had somewhat desensitized her to his comments and jokes, making her less reactive than she already was, and causing him to try a different approach. She seemed to adapt quickly, never making it easy for him to please her. He could do something spontaneous and surprise her, but only once. He had only been able to find a few key moves she always liked, and though he could feel her desire whenever he did these things, she worked to show it as little as possible. It kept him interested and turned on, if she was a little intoxicated he could even get her to take more control of him, which was always new and exciting for Hisoka.
"So, this procedure you mentioned is an abortion, huh?" he asked, folding his arms and closing his eyes, as he leaned against the elevator wall.
"Yes." She nodded.
"Were you ever going to tell me?"
"What would be the point in that? It wouldn't have changed anything." Machi shrugged.
"I suppose. It is your body and your choice, obviously, I guess I just didn't think you were the type to do this sort of thing." He shrugged.
Machi's head snapped back to him, "I've killed hundreds of people myself and assisted in many other deaths, how could I not be this type of person?"
"I'm not saying you don't have it in you, I just thought you'd want a little 'you' running around."
"I would, but it's also going to be a little you." Machi pointed out, turning back to the elevator doors as they opened.
Machi stepped out of the elevator, not hearing Hisoka move to follow. She took a breath and worked to compose herself before she would turn to walk down the hall.
"Machi." Hisoka called, placing his hand on the side of the threshold to keep the elevator open, "I realize I'm not the person you wanted to reproduce with, but if you don't want to do this then don't. I'd be willing to talk and come up with a plan. I respect your choice either way. You have my support."
Hisoka took his hand off the door slot and allowed the elevator to close. Machi stood with her back turned to the elevator, thinking over what Hisoka had said. With anyone else she could think of, she would let herself have this baby, but there were so many uncertainties with Hisoka. Would he stick around? Would it be better if he didn't? How would she manage being a single parent? How would she manage parenting with Hisoka? In the end, did she really want to do this now? She could possibly have a baby later in life, right? Of course, that would mean she'd have to date and leave the phantom troupe to have any hope of a peaceful life with her child. How was she going to do that? When? While she would have preferred this baby had come at a different time, it didn't seem like there would be a better time in the future. Machi could make it happen though, if she really wanted something she could get it. After mulling over all these questions, she took another breath and walked down the hallway to the doctor's office.
0000000000000000000000
Hisoka waited outside of the elevators on the ground floor, seated on a bench. He had considered leaving but did want to be there for Machi, in case she wasn't feeling well. Every time the elevator dinged he would glance up to see people getting off, none of them Machi. He had considered after an hour that she had gotten snuck out the back or something. Do they still do that? Then the elevator dinged again, and he focused on feeling the aura of the person stepping off, his eyes flicked up when he realized it was her.
He scanned her body as she stood and looked at him. She didn't seem disheveled or drugged up and he wondered exactly how an abortion works. Was she able to just take a pill or could they use Nen to make it less traumatic?
"So, you stuck around." She commented matter of fact like.
"I wanted to make sure you'd be okay after the procedure." He shrugged, leaning back in the bench to appear more casual.
"Well, I'm fine."
"Yes, so I guess you won't needing me." Hisoka sighed and stood, turning to walk out.
"Hey, where do you think you're going?" Machi called, causing Hisoka to look back over his shoulder, "You said, you'd want to talk and make a plan, didn't you?"
Hisoka was taken back by Machi's passive way of tell him she hadn't gone through with the abortion, and continued to stare blankly as she walked by. He fell in step with her after a moment and followed her.
