Galactic Empire ships filled the dark night sky. All the villagers ran for cover, hiding their crying children as best they could. This was it. The Empire knew they had betrayed them and joined the forces of the Jedi Order.
A young girl just stood, frozen, in the middle of the village. Her mother saw her and quickly ran to her 4-yr-old daughter. She scooped her up and ran inside one of the huts. She hid her under the bed.
"Stay here. Don't make any noise. I'll come and get you when they're gone, okay," the mother whispered softly.
The girl nodded, her white hair falling into her face. Her sky blue eyes shone brightly in the shadows.
The mother smiled, "That's my good girl."
She hurriedly went out of the room, shutting the door behind her.
Obeying her mother, the girl stayed under the bed. She heard the ships land - felt the ground beneath her tremble. There were angry yells for a short while, then suddenly, silence. Soon after, all she heard were gunshots and screams of pain. Then, engines roared to life and faded away.
She stayed there for a little while longer in the eerie silence, then crawled out to investigate. The girl crept to the door and quietly opened it. When no sound came, she ran out of the hut.
She was horrified to see that all those from her village - women, children and men - had been slaughtered. She dropped to her knees and cried, letting out a powerful shockwave of Force energy that shattered all the windows and crumbled all the houses.
A weight on her shoulder startled her. She quickly spun around and saw two men - Jedi - standing there, looks of pure sympathy and sadness on their faces. One was a lot younger than the other. The one with his hand on her shoulder knelt down next to her and smiled.
"I'm so sorry that we didn't make it in time to help your family," he said kindly, "I'm Anakin. This is my master, Obi Wan."
She tried to smile at these newcomers, like her mother had taught her, but she couldn't find the strength. She sighed and looked around at the crumbled mess she had made.
Her lip quivered as she looked back at them.
"Am I a monster," she asked, breaking into tears again.
Anakin and Obi Wan exchanged glances before Anakin pulled the child close to comfort her.
He shook his head, "No, you're not."
Obi Wan knelt beside them, "What is your name, little one?"
As the girl looked up at him, Anakin wiped the tears from her face.
"Hazazelle."
