Lan Zhan starts going to Yiling Sweets because it's a DoorDash hotspot for orders. Every morning, he sits at the same table, armed with his phone, a book, and his vape to keep him company while he waits for orders. He doesn't vape inside the shop, that would be rude and probably a health violation, he just doesn't like leaving it in his car.
This morning when he comes in, same time as normal, he's surprised to see a guy he's never seen before behind the counter. Upon taking him in, he decides that the boy, dressed in a fluffy sweater and dark ripped jeans, long hair tied up in a ponytail with a red ribbon, is unfairly attractive.
Nervous that he'd make a fool of himself if he tried talking to him, he forgoes ordering his usual blueberry muffin and tea, instead nodding at the boy when he greets him before taking his usual seat, laying his things on the table and cracking open his book while he waits for any orders to come through.
DoorDash has, annoyingly, been pretty slow lately, so he's sure he'll be able to make a dent in his book before he has to leave. Granted, he's a fairly fast reader, but he does make it another 4 chapter through before his phone chimes with an order. He looks over, reading over the shop, mileage and pay that the app shows, before declaring it worth it to take.
Gathering his things, he waves at the cute boy behind the counter before quickly making his way out of the door. It's only when he's halfway to the restaurant where he's meant to pick up the order that he realizes he'd left his vape sitting on the table in the bakery.

It's around half an hour later that he finally makes it back to the bakery, immediately looking towards the table he'd sat at and blinking in surprise and slight panic when he realizes his vape isn't there. Vapes aren't cheap, he thinks, groaning at the thought of having to buy a new one. Putting that thought aside for the moment, he walks over to the counter, dinging the bell for assistance. The boy from earlier comes stumbling out, flour covering the apron he now wears, some smattered over his cheeks.
'Cute' Lan Zhan thinks, ears flushing faintly at the thought.
"Sorry about that- oh, you're back!" The boy says, smile bright on his face when he sees Lan Zhan standing there.
Clearing his throat as quietly as possible, Lan Zhan nods. "Sorry to disturb you, but did you happen to see a vape where I was sitting? I forgot it when I left.."
"Ah! I tried to call after you, but you were walking pretty fast and must not have heard me!" The guy says, reaching under the counter and pulling out Lan Zhan's vape. "This what you're looking for?"
"Mm," Lan Zhan intones, reaching out to take it from the boys outstretched hand. "Thank you.." he says, pausing as he doesn't know the guys name.
"Oh, Wei Ying! And it's no problem at all, those things are expensive; I have the same model and I know I would hate to lose mine!" The boy, Wei Ying, says with a bright little laugh.
"Wei Ying.." Lan Zhan mutters, liking how the name feels on his tongue. He hears a sharp intake of breath come from the other boy and looks up, seeing Wei Ying's eyes on him, a pretty blush staining his flour dusted cheeks.
"And you are?" He asks, leaning forward against the counter. Lan Zhan's brain nearly shuts off with the increased proximity as he stumbles around giving his name. "Mm, Lan Zhan. Pretty name for a pretty guy," Wei Ying flirts, a tiny smirk playing across his lips.
By the time Lan Zhan leaves the bakery that day, having ended his dash to talk (a little awkwardly, in his case) to the pretty Wei Ying, he leaves with his book, his vape, and a new number in his phone, waiting to be used.
By the end of the week, the two have a date set up and Lan Huan is far too amused at his brothers 'slight' panic at picking out an outfit.
'Traitor', Lan Zhan thinks, though he's unable to keep the little smile from quirking at his lips.
A/N: This was something I wrote very quickly after seeing a "what's to your left, what's your job, and what's your dream job" kinda thing on Twitter. Mine was my vape, door dashing, and owning a bakery, respectively lol. Regardless, I hope you enjoyed it at least a little! -Isaac
