It was one day till Christmas Eve. One day till a 3 years old blonde, Betty, and a 4 years old raven haired boy, Jughead, could open their present. From the beginning they were best friends. Archie was on a vacation at his mom like every year. So Christmas was the one ordinary day were the two would be together, alone - without Archie.
"Mo-om. I want to see Juggy!" the young girl said, tucking on her mother's sweatshirt while Alice made the dough for the Christmas cookies. Her blonde ponytail bounced as she jumped. Alice Cooper laughed, watching her daughter being frustrated that she apparently didn't got the attention for her needs. Betty was never a patient girl, especially if the scenario included her best friend with black curly hair.
"and you'll see Jughead, dear" Alice assured her daughter and finished the cookie dough before taking it for 10 minutes in the freezer "but just not now. We talked about this already. The Jones' are going over to us tomorrow for lunch and stay over night"
"but I want to see him now!" Betty whined, stomping her foot on the ground. As it didn't work on her mother, she sighed, pleading "please mom...?" while making sure to blink like a princess would do, batting her eyelashes. She knew that not even Alice could resist her sweetie. Alice knew that she lost and crouched down in front of her daughter.
"fine Elizabeth, we'll go for a visit-" Betty didn't even wait for her answer and already cheered to go but her mother grabbed her wrist softly "BUT before we're going over, we are finishing the cookies"
"okay mooom.." Betty said as a response, knowing that she couldn't convince her to something else. Also if she could have easily just went over to some neighbor and ask for a ride, which Alice knew she would have done to get to her beloved friend.
Alice got the cookies out of the oven and placed them on the table "would you help me?"
"no pro- problwen." Alice chuckled, knowing that Betty still had difficulties spelling some words. Betty smiled and climbed onto a chair beside the table to assistant her mother with decorating the cookies.
Meanwhile at the Jones trailer, where a distraught Jughead Jones sat on his mother's countertop, shortly before throwing a tantrum.
"why do I have to wait fow this long, mom?! Do you know how long a whole night is?? Multiple horuws-"
"hours, Forsythe" his mom corrected him. Jughead tangled his hands in his raven hair, still a bit wet from washing it for the next day at the Cooper's. Gladys put her peach pie in the oven while the chocolate melted in a pot on the stove for the chocolate fudge cake. Gladys laughed at his lack of proper pronunciation by words that included the letter "r"
"whatever" he mumbled and jumped off of the counter board. He huffed and then walked over to the couch. Jughead crawled onto his father's lap, pouting while crossing his arms. FP was a feared man but softened if his eyes spotted his son.
"what did mom do this time?" he asked, putting his son closer to him. He glanced at Gladys and winked at her.
"she won't let me see Betty and makes fun of me because I can't say this 60 minutes thing" Jughead said throwing his arms around, glaring. But he never had a scary look, he was just too cute and young for that.
"but you're seeing her tomorrow. Can't you wait a little bit more?" FP asked and looked deep into his son's eyes. Also if he knew that Jughead already made a decision in his mind. And if Jughead Jones decided something in his mind then he won't change this. Jughead shook his head and FP sighed.
"Okay okay... Go get dressed. I'll call her mom to let her know that we are coming over for a visit. A visit, okay?"
"a visit is enough!" Jughead immediately jumped out of his father's lap and ran to his room, having a big smile on his face. FP got up, grinning, while turning around to grab his phone to inform Alice.
"he really likes that Cooper girl, doesn't he?" Gladys smiled, walking over to her husband and wrapping his arms around him.
FP smiled and nodded, answering "yeah he does, maybe because he doesn't know what love is" before pulling away from Gladys, grabbing his phone "let's just enjoy the time the two have as best friends" Jughead ran back from his room having on his light blue winter jacket, grey boots and a red black striped scarf.
"bye mom!"
"whoah whoah whoah, slow down Tiger" FP said, grabbing Jughead on the hood of his jacket "at first, you forgot your hat. Second, that's not how you say goodbye to your mother and third, I didn't even called Alice yet"
"wight, wight" Jughead laughed at himself and ran back in his room. Only seconds later he came back, still putting on his hat "okay now we can go!"
"ah ah ah," Jughead groaned.
"what's now dad?" FP chuckled and called Alice.
"come here Jughead" Gladys called. The son ran over to her and she put a bottle with tea in his backpack. "don't forget your gloves" he nodded and ran back to his room to grab his gloves.
The phone rang a few times and almost send him to the mailbox before Alice answered. Betty was in her room, getting dressed while Alice cleaned the kitchen from the disaster of Betty trying to decorate the cookies. Betty went back and forth between mirror and her closet to choose what to wear. Also if she knew that Jughead won't see her outfit underneath her jacket anyways.
"this is Alice Cooper how can I help you?" she said with her sentence, which she greets every caller on her phone since years if she doesn't know who it was.
"here is FP, Jughead can't wait to see Betty. So I was asking if we can come for a visit" Betty came back from her room already dressed for going over to the Jones trailer.
"oh we were just going to call you too, right Betty?" Alice chuckled and Betty nodded as an answer "well since we are both on our way, let's meet in the middle of the way, the park"
"mo-om. When can we go-o?" Betty whined, tucking on her mother's coat "come on Betty. Go and put on your hat... and don't forget your gloves and scars, we wouldn't want you sick!" she called for Betty, who had already ran to her room and grabbed her things.
"good, we see us in the park Alice" FP said and hung up. Alice smiled and then put her phone in her coat pocket before slipping on her boots. Betty grabbed her mother's hand and went outside.
"not so fast Elizabeth. We still need the keys for our car first" she said, grabbing them in the last moment before Betty pulled her outside. Alice locked the door and Betty ran to the car. She opened it and sat down in her child seat on the backseat before Alice buckled her up and then got in the car herself.
Arriving at the park, the Jones were already waiting for them. Betty jumped out of her seat, not even waiting for her mother to open the door. As Jughead's eyes spotted his blonde girl, a huge smile grew on his face and he ran over to her. Betty did the same and they both hugged eachother, falling onto the ground and rolling on the snow.
"it's like they haven't seen each other for a really long time" FP said, chuckling. Alice looked at them with a smile "let's already walk, they will follow us"
The rest of the day the two of them would play outside in the park, trying to catch each other or just throwing snow at the other. Alice talked to FP almost the whole time and if not, then they would just watch their children, playing with each other.
At the end of the day the two weren't going to part ways, so Jughead convinced his dad to already sleep at Betty's. Clever like he was - Jughead was always clever - he had already packed. Well, although he wouldn't have necessarily needed to, since he already had a so called night-set at the Cooper's: a pajama, clothes for the next day and everything else he needed was included, of course.
On this evening they both got something from eachother. Betty got a pink bear who said "I love you" whenever you press the tummy of it. And Jughead? He got a gray knitted crown like beanie from her to control his raven hair.
If you ask him, the best present ever.
